critical thinking
I think the money should be put towards youth development, affordable housing, and education. Most of my answers are based around the youth because we are the future. It's important that the youth has all the materials and resources they may need to invest in their future. The money could probably be a short term solution because a little does go a long way. With large sums of money, the mayor could actually invest and find a way to make all the money right back plus more. The mayor should see what areas/neighborhoods need it the most. Some neighborhoods are in bad shape and could use his help. I definitely suggest that the mayor put the money towards multiple different interventions such as a youth center, upgraded school, more shelters for low income families, and more.

who are today's migrants?
Today's migrants are people who go to college outside of their hometown. People who travel to experience different areas. And many more. I couldn't find anyone personally that's from a different country so I interviewed my roommate. My roommate is from Pittsburgh, PA. It's not super far from Baltimore but to her 5 hours is a lot. During the semester she didn't get to go home as often as me because transportation can be expensive. Me, being from Washington D.C; I often go home a lot because catching the train to Union Station is only 40 minutes. Before she came to school she didn't really travel alone or wasn't used to being away from her family for so long. Some new things that she enjoyed while being in Baltimore was the mall being only 20 minutes from campus, meeting people from different areas, making a lot of friends that are actually from here (Baltimore). I asked her what made her choose Morgan State; considering Baltimore is a kind of a big city.
She said the wanted to enjoy more of the city life. She always heard about the seafood that came from the harbor because at home she only eats seafood when it is in season. Also financial reasons also played a big part in her decision. She also states that nobody from her hometown stayed there after high school. They all went to college out of state. Only thing she misses about being at home is being far from her family. Her older sister recently just had a baby and she was upset she couldn't be there to welcome her nephew into the world.

what it costs
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my dorm room. I tried to include everything in these pictures. Only thing not shown is inside of my closet because it wasn't the cleanest. But after doing this assignment and really taking the time to estimate how much everything costs, it makes me appreciate the hard work my parents put in each day. I have other siblings and I know they have "wants and needs" also. College is expensive as is but nobody talks about how much it costs to do dorm shopping. Being in college you have to have your own everything because you may have a roommate you're not comfortable sharing with. Normal house hold items I would normally share with my family like toothpaste, towels, wash cloths, detergent, dish soap, etc. All these items had to be purchased again just for me. Some things I did purchase on my own because I was working while I was at home. I kept up with my hair, nails, toes , and eyebrows which I was getting done every 2 weeks. I was funding my social life for the most part.

Everyone lives a different lifestyle so some of these things people may not own but I'm grateful to be even be in the position to have a lot of these things.

making the unfamiliar familiar
CROCS: Crocs were originally designed to be boating shoes (hence the name "Crocs" because it is short for crocodiles) that prioritized grip-focused soles, waterproof materials, and foot protection. Crocs were introduced in 2002 by 3 guys who went to high school and college together.
