Hello! I thought your tumblr post was great! One thing I should have done that I saw on your post was the definition for ethos pathos and logos. I was trying to look for actual definitions but I couldn't find it. I also liked the gifts you used they were super cute. Ethos. Pathos, Logos FTW!

 “How will I execute Ethos, Pathos, and Logos as a producer, creator, writer, and activist?”   

We must know what Ethos, Pathos, and Logos mean. So I decided to add the definitions to remind myself throughout this post ( and help others, hopefully.)

SECTION A: As a writer!

 1. How will you employ

Ethos?

           My homepage will carry the credibility that I am the author for the website. It will be credible because I am a student enrolled in the university of Texas at el Paso taking RWS 1302 class and I can share the experience of taking the class with professor Audrey. I will express situations and feelings I went through first had.

Pathos?

          The section that includes Assignment Reflections will carry plenty of logos. This is the section that I will express my achievements, my difficult times and my reliefs throughout the semester when working on all the assignments. I will also be sharing my experiences and thoughts on some of the readings from the required textbooks from this course when I get to the Course Reading Reflection.

Logos?

           I will cover logic with the fair use statement, informational graphics and facts. My writing fluency must stay at the same pace and rhythm. It must be well written. Including examples, pictures, facts and an in depth description when needed. Logos will be available in practically everything. For example, my homepage, the tabs I include and the text in these sections.

SECTION B: As a designer!

As a designer overall I should be able to express myself and engage my viewers visually and artistically. I should be able to capture their full attention without overwhelming them at all.

 2. How will you employ

Ethos?

           I will portray credibility through alignment and grouping. The Website must inform my peers in a professional manner. I believe that using vertical and horizontal elements can sustain a professional look if used adequately. Not too much, just enough. I would like to separate work, for example having a section dedicated to just the assignment reflections. This will cover a grouping aspect in my webpage. For example, diving sections and using correct grammar. Making sure the webpage looks up to date and all my sources are correct as well as the information I use in the sections of my webpage.

Pathos?

I will portray emotions through consistency, Contrast, and balance. My Headings will carry a bigger font size, and the same style of text and my body text will carry a smaller font size but perhaps the same text style. An ongoing feeling throughout the webpage. I would like to keep the same feeling well balanced and equally weighed. If an image expresses a strong feeling and my text from the opposite side lacks emotion that it can definitely throw off my balance, however images and graphics will weigh more than text so I must be precise with this issue. The background color will be a light gray, were I can still add images and text without overwhelming anybody and for the website to remain professional.

Logos?

Like mentioned above the organization of the home page and other sections are very important and they resemble Logos. Being able to navigate the webpage without difficulty is a must for my web page as well as the webpage itself making sense to my peers and I. Perhaps when I explain my work or reflect on my readings I can include quotes, by doing that my viewers will have an easier understanding to what I mean. I will make sure to portray a message and make it well known, my viewer must not go in my webpage looking for stuff, the stuff should be available in an instant. #ChallengeAccepted

LAST TUMBLR EVER Week 15

So this is the last Tumblr Tuesday post I will ever have to do and I couldn't be happier. I am so ready for the vacation!

For our website we have to keep in mind, how will we employ ethos, pathos, and logos throughout and also when we design it. Here is a little reminder. Check It out!

Homepage/About me: I will employ Ethos as a writer in this respective section by, making sure that when I introduce myself everything is factual and up-to-date and that throughout my website my grammar and punctuation is correct. I will also ensure that I am credible for the information I will be providing about myself.

 Assignment Reflections: For this section I will employ ethos by, using my previous assignments as resources to ensure that the information I’m providing is factually correct.

Reading Reflections: For the last section I will employ ethos by, using the e-book as a credible source, to summarize the readings we have explored and discussed.

Homepage/About me: I will employ Pathos as a writer in this respective section by, using an appropriate photo of myself to show credibility and imply that this is my website. I will also make sure I use the appropriate colors, sizes, and styles of font on my homepage so that it is legible for my audience.

Assignment Reflections: For this section I will employ Pathos by, showing a sense of value on all the assignments I have accomplished that way my message has an emotional impact. I will also make sure that I use colors that are simple and not too much.

Reading Reflections: For the last section I will employ Pathos by, using emotional language to discuss how the readings met my expectations and how they were beneficial to the assignments we completed.

Homepage/About me: I will employ logos as a writer in this respective section by, providing a layout that is organized and not all over the place. Seeing those two websites helped me realize what a good website looks likes and how a bad one looks. Therefore, I will use Aarons website as an example.

Assignment Reflections: For this section I will employ logos by, providing evidence from my assignments to make my message clear. I will also make sure that this page is legible and organized for my audience.

Reading Reflections: For the last section I will employ logos by, using facts, statistics, and examples from the e-book to convey my message and show how the readings will be beneficial as I continue to develop as a writer.

Now that I am a designer, I will use ethos, pathos, and logos throughout my website.

Ethos: I will make sure that my grammar and punctuation is all correct and I will ensure that I use credible sources for all my pages in my website.

Pathos: I will ensure that the layout of my website is simple and not to colorful because as a Rhetoric writer that is not professional. I will also make sure that I use motivational appeals and emotional language for my audience.

Logos: In my website I will make sure that I use factual information, examples and quotes to convey my message. I will also make sure my website is organized and looks nice.

Week 14 : Thinking About My Website

SECTION A: DESIGN PRINCIPLES APPLIED?

I will analyze the following website first http://trendlines.ca/.

QUESTIONS FOR ANALYSIS:

1. Identify and describe the balance of the site. This website has an off balance between the images and the text. As you can notice above the the graph takes the majority of the space on the page, yet the text in the graph is still small which is equal to the text from the rest of the website. The website focuses on graphs, however, I think that the information about signing up for a membership or the simple details explaining the main idea of the webpage itself should be clear, bigger and should stand out. The reader must not go looking for anything, the creator must make sure he keeps the viewers attention and explains everything clearly and briefly.

2. How is contrast employed on the site? From my point of view the body text seems to use the same text font as the title text. The body text is bold and the title text is bigger , but not in bold. However, I do think all the text overall even the bigger text is still quite small. I do not know what to read first and it makes it all a bit overwhelming.

3. Evaluate the site’s use of consistency. The contingency in this page would be the text font all over the website. It is almost the same text with the same size.

4. Describe the site’s utilization of alignment and grouping. Alignment and grouping comes hand in hand. The page seems more of a horizontal webpage rather than vertical. And the text is located on your right side and the graphs on your left, the heading statements on top of the page and all these three items represent grouping.

5. Based on your analysis of the site in terms of the principles of design, describe the effectiveness of the site.

I believe this is an effective website for individuals who are very much familiar with graphs and statistics since the website is mainly a membership that you sign up for to have access to all the numbers. The one shown above is the gas pump.

I will now analyze the second website which is, http://www.aaronxmarquez.com/

QUESTIONS FOR ANALYSIS:

1. Identify and describe the balance of the site. This website is very clear and balanced out. The weight between the images and text are well balanced. The images don’t make the viewer ignore the text and the text is very clear to read. This portion is perfect!! ( the colors as well are great, they do not overwhelm me or bore me)

2. How is contrast employed on the site? The font size is different as it should be. The titles and subheadings are bigger than the body text. They carry the same text font which doesn’t throw the website off in anyway. It is very clear and you can easily tell what it is that you will be reading.

3. Evaluate the site’s use of consistency. I would definitely say all elements resemble each other.like I mentioned before the text may be in different size but the font is the same and the spacing is the same. Length wise is very similar throughout all the body text and all the tab text is the same. All the text added in this website was very well done.

4. Describe the site’s utilization of alignment and grouping. The website designer definitely has some background knowledge on what it is the people look for. He grouped his work in topics and eat section had is title or subheading, and image, and text. All this didn’t mix up anything though, it was clear and very nice to follow along. He also mixed and matched the alignment through this website and it looks great!

5. Based on your analysis of the site in terms of the principles of design, describe the effectiveness of the site.

I am confident that this website is very effective. It met all the criteria and was not missing anything. I think it is a great website! And although it had a lot going on I didn’t feel overwhelmed and still got a professional feel from the website.

SECTION B: IMPLICATIONS FOR YOUR OWN DESIGN:

1. What will you have to do to ensure that your website is balanced? I will make sure I choose pictures very carefully. I now know that most of the websites page should be located on my right side. Colors also have to do a lot with the presentation of my work so if I am unsure of the balance I will choose white and black, those colors are very balanced by themselves. I will try and go back to my old website from RWS1301 since we focused on it all semester and I may get ideas from it. My book also mentions to be very careful with irregular shapes, big shapes and texts, those weight more than their opposite.

2. How will you use contrast on your website? My book mentions that if I make the material distinct from each other throughout the website my work will be more clear to the reader. This includes highlighting, background colors and the font sizes. I will definitely keep this in mind.

3. Where will you employ consistency on your website? Consistency is a must throughout my text. From headings, to subheadings and to body text. This section of the book reminded me of APA formatting. Consistency means having an easy to read website without overwhelming anybody. The text on headings should b different in size than the body text. The pages should resemble each other no matter how many there are, if I add a list the bullet points should be almost or the same, and the text font should appear professional. I will definitely do all this on my website!!!

4. How can you use alignment and grouping to make your website more effective? I will use alignment and grouping effectively throughout my website. I will choose between vertical or horizontal alignment and my book mentions which is is best for the reading. It also mentions that pictures are usually added when white is around, it also mentions to use headings and add a border. Will do!

5. What colors will you use for your website? Why? I will definitely go with a Shades of white and black for my background so I can have space for any added images. It will make it clear and not overwhelming. The website will look very clean too!! The font will definitely be black for a professional look.

6. How else can you ensure that your website is well-designed?

I will ensure it will be a good website by following the guidelines and tips mentioned in the RWS book, I can also go back and look at these two websites to ensure and remind myself what is a good example and what is not a good example, and finally get feedback from my peers and professor if possible. I am confident about the outcome of my website!!

On the Road to Creating a Website

So creating a website is the last and final assignment of the semester and I couldn't be happier. After making my website I will finally be stress free!

In my website I must follow all the guidelines and must make sure I use the five principles of design such as:

Contrast: Design such as font style and size are different from one another.

Consistency: Making sure design is consistent and similar.

Balance: When images and text have equal weight, such as spreading out the content.

Grouping: Keeping sets of like items on the same page and not scattered.

Alignment: Lining up elements on the page either vertically of horizontally.  

- The first website http://trendlines.ca/

1) The balance of this website was not good at all. On the left side there was a graph showing the USA Gasoline components and on the right side there was only 3 bullet points of information, creating no balance at all.   

2)  The contrast of this site is not very good because there is so many different colors, sizes, and styles of font. It is difficult to read the graph since their is so many different colors going on.

3) The use of consistency is not good either because the design is not consistent. In the graph they used many different colors for the font and on the right hand side they used black making it very distracting.

4) The alignment is not in proper format because the textbox's that are on the graph are not aligned properly. Some are diagonal, and they are all different sizes and colors. As for the grouping, the results of the chart is on the right hand side when it should probably be right under that way you know those are the results.

5) Based on my analysis of the site in terms of the principles of design, the effectiveness of the site was very helpful because there was so much color that it took away from the chart. Everything was scattered everywhere and had no consistency at all. Looking at this website now I know what NOT to do.

- The website http://www.aaronxmarquez.com/

1. The balance of this site was a lot better because the images and text had equal weight. The text was on the left side and the picture was on the right but it transparent that way you could focus on the text more than the image.

2) How is contrast employed on the site? The contrast of Aarons website was very organized. The style, size, and color of font was all the same. He also highlighted the key points in yellow to show you that, that information is important. He also put a black background so it wouldn't take away from the text.

3) The sites use of consistency was on point because the design was consistent, he used only white and yellow for the font which is very simple and not to much for the audience.

4) Everything in this website was aligned and not scattered all over the place, which made it look organized.

5) Based on my analysis of the site in terms of the principles of design, the effectiveness of this site was very helpful because it showed me how my website should look. Aarons website was very organized, it didn't have to much, it was just simple and straight to the point. I also liked this website because it looked fancy and it also incorporated movement when you would scroll to the next page. This gave me a better understanding on what my website should look like.

Now that I have a better understanding now its time to outline my own website and how I want mine to look!

1. To ensure that my website is balanced I will make sure that my images and text share equal weight for instance if I put an image I will imply that I put a fair amount of text, not too much and not too little.

2. On my website I will also ensure that I use contrast such as incorporating the same style, color, and size of font that way it can look organized and simple.

 3. I will employ consistency by making sure that my design is consistent and not a different layout on each page. For example, on Aarons website he had the same layout for all his different pages.

4. Using alignment and grouping can make my website more effective because that's what makes it look organized. For instance, in the first website I saw everything was not aligned and the information was not grouped well o it made everything look like a mess aka “capirotada”.

 5. The colors I plan to use for my website is mostly black and white because I think that's what makes it look organized. I feel like color takes away from the text  and objective.

 6. I can ensure that my website is going to be well- designed because I am going to go over the website guidelines and go in depth to make sure I understand the directions. I am also one who loves to ask questions therefore if I have any I will make sure I ask that way I am on the right track. In addition, the website creator WIX, gives you many options of designs that you can chose from so I think that will also be very helpful.   

Now that I have analyzed what a good website looks like I can now use that as an example to help me create my own!

I think our group meetings are coming along very well! I love my group and I can't wait to see how the final product comes out. Although we are both concerned about the 5-7 minute time limit, I think we will be just fine as long as we keep finding good information and pictures! Good job on the post!

CREATING A PLAN OF ACTION!

So far so good with this documentary, my group is doing an awesome job!

a. What days and times will you commit to the project?

-My group has been meeting once a week during weekdays and sometimes even on Sundays. During the week, we schedule our meetings usually around 6 or 7 in the afternoon since some of us work. And on Sundays we meet around noon because of church. Our meetings usually last about 2 hours. 

b. What days/times are you working as a group and when will you work alone? 

-One day out of the week and on Sunday I commit into working with my group members. The rest of the days when we do not meet, we agreed on the fact that we will gather and note down helpful information that might help us for our next meeting.

c.  Specifically, what aspect of the project will you address on each of those days? 

-We are splitting the whole documentary into sections and we are doing about two sections every time we meet, that way it won’t be too harsh on us. 

d. Specifically, what will you do to complete those aspects of the project?

-One huge benefit for our group is Dropbox. We have a folder labeled “Group Project” where we share each other’s scholarly articles, open sources and interview material that addresses our topic. 

e. What specific aspects of the assignment are you most concerned about? What can you do to address those concerns?

-The aspect I am most concerned about is reaching the goal of 5-7 min. It feels as though we have been doing a lot but we are still really short in time. To address this concern, we can add plenty of pictures and information.

f. What specific aspects of the assignment are you most comfortable with? Why? 

-The aspect I am most comfortable with is that Merle is super knowledgeable with technology and therefore he is handling the whole shaping of the video. And I gotta admit he has surprised me so much! I am so glad he is part of our group, with Brianna’s and my thoughts and feedback our documentary will be a success!!!

Week 13

I thought this documentary was going to be a little less stressful but I was wrong! This is how I'm totally feeling!!!

A) Myself and my awesome group have been meeting once a week mostly during the week or on Sundays. Our meeting last about two hours. In addition, our group is very helpful, everyone attends and works diligently.

B) Throughout the whole project we will be working together for the most part. As a group we came up with this because we fill it will be beneficial for us to do everything together that way we can all have a voice throughout this project.

C) At each group meeting we work in sections such as title page, introduction, claim, support, advocacy, and conclusion that way its not too much in one day. Although, we want to finish this project I think it is good to split the project up into sections that way its not too stressful and that way this problem can be avoided. 

D) As a group we will work together and put our opinions to make this project a success. We also have a drop box where we can share all our scholarly sources, open sources, and interview material, so that we can all access the information about our topic. I think the drop box is a great thing because we all have access to these articles that way all of us learn about the topic and grasp the information.

E) The aspect that I'm most concerned about for this project, is the time limit. I feel 5-7 minutes is a long time for a video. I know we are going to meet the requirement but it is going to be challenging. Another thing I'm concerned about is the music we are going to use because I feel like there is no music that ties into education.

F) The aspects I'm most comfortable with is the creation of the video because Merle is a professional at making videos. He knows what he is doing when it comes to the techy stuff. Another thing I'm comfortable with is the topic because that was my topic and I did plenty of research on diversity in education.

My group is a great group and I cannot wait to see the final product of the documentary!

A. Ethos: It has been said and reported that minority teachers become role models for their students since they want to improve the academic status of students of color.

-”Beyond the role model function and the culturally-inspired practices discussed above, teachers of color have also been shown to contribute to the education of students of color by reducing the acute shortage of educators for high-minority urban schools (Villegas and Irvine, 2010). 

B. Pathos: Many studies have been conducted where African Americans and Latino teachers may be the minority in the U.S. educator workforce, but new studies have found that they may also be the most effective.

-”Because of their familiarity with the minority culture, minority teachers have an important monitoring function; they recognize earlier when minority students are having problems and when intervention is necessary (Driessen, 2015).

C. Logos: Many research has shown that minority students succeed more if taught by a minority teacher.

PART 1:

Purpose: Diversify the teaching force

Audience: Individuals seeking a career in the education field

Solution:  Provide scholarships for minority students to become a teacher

PART 2: TOPIC

Ethos:

According to Dr. Mein employing more minority teachers can be beneficial in the work force due to the fact that it can improve students academic success.

“Diversity needs to become a national priority to diversify the teaching force and to make the teaching force look more like the students who are in our classrooms” (Mein 2016).

“teachers must be prepared to teach a variety of diverse students within the classroom” (Mein 2016).

Pathos:

“A wide range of diversity reflects on multi- dimensional nature of difference and inequality.”

With a lack of diversity in the workforce students might be at risk and may face challenges in the classroom. Also, ethnic disparities are more likely to increase. Meaning that students may not connect with teacher or may not feel comfortable due to the difference in background and culture.

Logos:

According to researchers most of the public schools have a majority of white educators causing a major disparity in the work force.

Hello my fellow friend! I loved your tumblr post it was great. You followed all the directions that were mentioned. I can totally agree with you on not wanting to go through this again. This paper was very stressful and gave me anxiety at times. I hate to break it to you but I'm sure we are going to have to write more papers like this that include research.

Finally, It’s Over

What: Truthfully, this is not something I would like to go through again. At least for me, the main problem with this was not being able to talk about an issue of which I truly cared for. Its not that I don’t care for Gender Diversity in STEM fields, is just not something I wanted to write about, let alone research. So for me the hard part about this assignment was actually putting in the effort to do all this. Other than that, I do enjoy the fact that I now have Primary Research and a general essence of how to write a research paper under my belt. I know in the future, when I write about something that might be a full on interest of mine, I wont have a difficult time as I have already something like it before and therefore have a sort of outline to use towards writing.

So What: Professionally this has helped me grow as I have now gained experience into the world of which professionals call “Research”. In the future, I really don’t know how much I would use this type of writing in my everyday life, and as a matter of fact, I actually changed majors while I was still writing this paper. So I am now entering the Economics fields, there, I hope to end up becoming a part of a hedge fund, so I can have the money work for me instead of me work for the money. Moving from this point, I do not believe I will be doing much writing when I’m lounging around in my yacht as I keep flipping over investments. But if I had stayed as an Engineering Major, I feel this skill would be great to have as you are constantly trying to create new things and better old things, for this to happen, one must research on what needs to be done. In addition, if you would like to have support from other professionals as yourself and even some collegiate funding, it would be a good idea to present a research paper to both parties.

Now What: The whole purpose of this assignment was to bring light the levels of diversity in our fields. Most of us, initially, had to already of had such an idea of these levels. For example, I already knew there were very low levels of females involving in STEM careers, why? Well because you can just tell by your Freshmen orientation, the ratio of males to females at this thing was crazy, it was like 1 girl to 6 guys, THAT’S INSANE. So that’s initially why I picked gender diversity instead of racial diversity. With the research I know have under my belt, I can tell you that the problem simply originates from social constructs we have built over time, and the problem itself is fixing itself each year, numbers are rising of female involvement in these career paths, not as much as some might like, but they are still growing. SO think that’s the NOW WHAT, now we sit and wait for these numbers to grow and add on to this flame that is women joining STEM in order to create a more gender diverse world, which in turn will create better ideas for all of us to use.

Abstract, Cover Page & References

Don’t know where you can find information on how to create a Abstract, Cover Page and references……

Well follow these steps and it will help guide you!

Let’s Begin!!!

First go into blackboard and go to weekly content. Click on the folder “Literature Review Supplement Guidelines.”

Knowing that I had to find information based on my subject, I looked for where the Abstract, Cover Page and Reference requirements ware located.

Although this information was helpful, to gain more information I checked my RWS Handbook and found more specific information on how to complete the Abstract on page 231.

Because not much information was given on how to properly create a cover page I found a very helpful video that shows you step by step on how to create an APA Format Cover Page.

These are the requirements and steps needed to complete your Abstract, Cover Page and References all in APA Format. ow you will be able to complete your Literature Review!!!

- must be APA format

-Gives credit to the author when paraphrasing or quoting their ides

- Must provide the year that the article or book was published in parenthesis following the authors name

Great job! You have done everything you are supposed too, you even provided a cute checklist.  I liked your questions they seem good but one thing you might want to change is the agree and disagree part in questions 2 and 3 because remember you don't want to have them choose a side. You want the interviews response to be open ended. Other than you are on the right track!

Week 9: MY OWN CHECK LIST FOR THE UPCOMING INTERVIEW!

 Okay so I began by typing up my email interview request to who I think is the best candidate (although all of them are pretty great). and here is my proof:

Since it is already 11:00 a.m. I decided to save it in my drafts folder and send it tomorrow in the morning. ( at 8 a.m. to be exact!!)

Next! I saved the Release form in my drop box for when I need it. and here is my proof:

Next!  I went back to drop box and looked for my draft questions. Here they are:

Next! Interview Confirmation is now saved into my drop box.

Although you can clearly see my checklist, I made a baby summary for a better understanding!

Hell week

So this is where the stress begins... setting up an interview is quite nerve wrecking. This is how I'm feeling!

First things first I emailed Dr. Mein because I felt she would be a great candidate to interview. Based off her research it seems like I would receive good feedback that will be very helpful for my lit  review. Here is proof that I emailed her, check it out!

Now onto the next step... in the Tumblr Tuesday directions it implies that we must download the interview release form to drop box so here it is. By the way I love drop box, it sure does save me a sprint to my car!

Third step is to create a clean document of the interview questions and the quotes from the four scholarly articles. Here they are!

For the second time I must download something to my drop box but now it is the interview confirmation. This is what it looks like.

Last but not least here are the recording materials I will be taking to the interview with Dr. Mein. YIKES! I am a little nervous but I CAN DO THIS.

First off I love your semester topic because before I changed my major to education I wanted to go into the medical field to become a nurse. Then I realized I am weak when I see people in pain or suffering. Secondly your interview questions look great they are not biased. Your citations are also good they are put into APA format. Good job!!

These research questions helped me realize that I needed more information for my paper and the interviewee would provide valuable knowledge. I also changed a couple of my citations because I was missing information. I’m super excited that I finished my Tumblr Tuesday early.

Research/ Interview Questions

After creating these interview questions I feel a bit excited to set up an interview with the three scholars I chose. I want to hear their opinion on what they think about diversity in classrooms.
