i had a dream that time travel was invented and too many people choose to travel back in time to save the titanic from sinking (the question of whether unsinking of the titanic deserved so much attention in the face of human history was the subject of both heavy academic and online discourse), which caused a rift in the space-time-continuum that led to the titanic showing up indiscriminately all over the world’s oceans and sea in various states of sinking.
this caused a lot of issues both in terms of fixing said space-time-continuum and in terms of nautical navigation, and after a long and heavy battle in the international maritime organization it was decided that the bureaucratic burden of dealing with this was to be upon Ireland, much to their dismay. the Irish Government then released an app for all sailors and seafarers so they could report titanic sightings during their journeys, even though they heavily dissuaded you from reporting them given the paperwork it caused.
anyway i woke up with a clear image of the app in my head and needed to recreate it for all of you:

The author's blatant fetish. The one you picked this book up for. Because you also have that fetish.

Imagine Miquella the Unalloyed and Miquella the Kind fighting. It starts as an awe-inspiring mages' duel, elaborate formations of light discuses flying in all directions. Then one of them decides to rush into melee range and it devolves into a somewhat embarrassing slap fight.
Leda stands in the background looking on in absolute horror and confusion.
Millicent eventually realizes, with a feeling of muted panic, that none of the other adults are going to intervene. She ends up very gingerly holding them both by the back of their shirts trying to keep them arms-length apart.

I hate this scene for obvious reason, but this particular and pivotal moment was so mind-blowing that I can’t stop thinking about it. I remember watching it for the first time - how I froze, anticipating his confession and imagining dozens of possible ways those layered emotions could play out in a millisecond, cause emotions here are really complex: it’s a mix of guilt, denial, fear, delusion, shame, pain and probably more that I’m missing...and to express it all in roughly 15 seconds and 3 words is a tough challenge, even for the greatest actors. I remember myself picturing how different actors might approach it... but what JJ did wasn't on my list: it was beyond my expectations, leaving me awestruck, with a feeling of presence - as if it were real, as if it were happening right in front of my eyes. His expression, his tone, his trembling voice, that gasp... the raw intensity of his emotions was piercing and painfully convincing. If Stanislavsky could watch this scene, I believe he’d be screaming in ecstasy: I believe! 🤣
