Are You Really Going To Die On This Hill?

Why should I die on this hill? Far better to kill you upon it, that I may continue to defend this hill for longer, and with continuing ferocity. The pile of corpses at my feet as I kill upon this hill shall be a warning to others, a proof of their foolishness to even attempt upon me and the hill I defend.

I shall fight upon this hill. I shall bleed upon this hill. I shall kill upon this hill. Someday, yes, I may die upon this hill. But my death shall not be the first, and I will die knowing that I defended this hill well, and when I am gone that another shall take my place.

And when that next person comes, they shall not stand upon a bare, barren hill as I did when I first determined to defend it. They shall have the benefits of my long campaign to ease their way. They shall have the foundations I laid, to build their own battlements upon. They shall have allies waiting for them, primed, watching, ready, knowing what this hill represents and willing to stand with them to defend it. They shall have trenches already dug, barricades already built, and a sword, sharp and ready to cut down those who believe they can take this hill.

This is a hill with history for those who would learn it, and learning truly will bring more defenders. This hill may be besieged by the ignorant and hateful, by the bigots, the fascists, those who decry all that is 'other'. But those who stand upon this hill know this for truth:

'Other' is a whole lot bigger than these hateful people. 'Other' is diverse and wonderful and bright and sublime. 'Other' will not die. Not upon this hill. Its defenders may fall, but we shall not fall easily, nor lightly.

You ask if I am truly willing to die upon this hill? I take such a question as indication that you are not truly my ally. That you are weak to those who hate the glorious truth I stand for. That you would try and take me from this, my place. That you would try to make me as weak and hateful as you.

But I will not move. This is my stand. Here, upon this hill. I am ready. I am armed. I am armoured. I am not alone.

Come at me, bitch.

My cats have this meow that means "please come with me to fix this" after which they'll lead me to the problem in question, usually a empty (or 'empty') food bowl or a closed door they want open. They look at the 'problem', they look back at me, clear message.

What fascinates me is how this illustrates what they percieve as being in the realm of my 'power.' I control the food, I control the door, sure, but my cats love to sit on the balcony in the sun, and it has happened plenty of times that on a rainy day they come get me, go to the balcony and show me... the rain. "Please fix this" they say. "Please get rid of the wet"

"Silly kitty," I say, "I can't control the rain." I then walk into the shower and turn on the rain.

Hey do y'all think if I went to autism speaks and told them I was autistic that they would help me get medically assisted suicide rights or whatever??? Please help my new trash panda rescues (and spicy dogs)

Today, I (yes, the Dashcon ballpit girl) partnered with local law enforcement to retrieve seven raccoons and two coyotes involved in an animal abuse/abandonment case. The coyotes have already been moved to the sanctuary where I work, but the raccoons (yes, all seven of them) will be quarantined at my home enclosure for now.

The animals are not in good shape and need extensive vet care.

I know I don’t have the best track record with asking tumblr for donations, but if anyone is interested in assisting with animal care
