Anglican Men’s Club Completes $50,000 Pledge to Bowmanville Hospital Foundation
BOWMANVILLE, - Thursday, November 22, 2018 – Today, Ray Atkinson, President, and members of the St. George’s Anglican Men’s Club, visited the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation and presented a cheque for $3,000 to Kirk Kemp and Fiona Hodkinson, Board of Directors, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. The funds were raised through the Club’s “Loonie+ Tent,” a refreshment stand hosted by St. George’s Anglican Men’s Club during the 2018 “Concerts in the Park” season held at Rotary Park in Bowmanville.
“Our contribution to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is something we are very proud of,” said Mr. Atkinson. “Years ago, the Anglican Men’s Club was drawn to the need to support the people of our community by ensuring necessary hospital equipment is available when they need it. There are a lot of people that stand with us as a community as we make this donation to our Hospital, and we are so happy with what we’ve been able to do for Bowmanville Hospital.”
This is the final installment of the Club’s $50,000 pledge to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, one that has previously supported the “Back the Cat” Campaign and will now be directed to the Foundation’s “Buy A Bed” Fundraiser for the replacement of much-needed stretchers and mattresses for the Hospital.
Established in the mid-1990s, St. George’s Anglican Men’s Club began with a mission of “fellowship, fundraising and community.” With approximately 20 members, the Club initially raised funds for St. John’s Anglican Church in Bowmanville through the sales of pancakes, sausages and apple dumplings at Bowmanville’s AppleFest and MapleFest events. In 2005, the Club began running the refreshment stand during the 12-week “Concert in the Park” series, with proceeds going to support the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. Following the 2018 season, St. George’s Anglican Men’s Club made the decision to dissolve, due to a decline in membership.
“We are grateful to the members of the Anglican Men’s Club for their unwavering commitment to the Foundation after all these years”, says Mr. Kemp, Vice-Chair, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. “As an integral part of “Concerts in the Park” evenings, the Club has demonstrated a tremendous example of the power of giving within a community. The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is incredibly thankful for the members of the Anglican Men’s Club and their lasting impact on the future of Bowmanville Hospital.”
