I have 0 problems with people who cannot enjoy Caitlyn or caitvi because they cannot get past horrible actions that hit close to home and resemble issues extremely personal to them in the real world. indisputably valid.
I have problems with the people twisting the entirety of Caitlyn's narrative into "always was always will be 100% evil and should have died for it" and getting high on spewing neglectfully simple statements with extreme terms that don't apply in full or even at all, just because it makes them feel morally superior to anybody that allows even the slightest bit of room to acknowledge the complexity of a fictional character.
you don't have to like her or what she's done (and you shouldn't like what she's done, but at least get right what actually happened and why). at the same time, that doesn't make it impossible to still acknowledge she has (and was purposefully written with) goodness and compassion in the heart of her character. this was made abundantly clear all throughout season 1 and is something she absolutely compromised in season 2, BUT also realized she hated herself for and wants to do better going forward.
(and look, i understand longing for more meaningful reparations on-screen, but a fictional narrative doesn't owe you a perfectly depicted solved problem by the final frame. they gave us the first steps with a clear intention to continue improving (listen to Caitlyn's closing speech). not to mention it wouldn't make practical or narrative sense to deliver a giant montage of fixing every issue when arcane is ultimately a backstory and, to my knowledge, the piltover/zaun conflict is still part of current league lore and potentially other on-screen stories yet to tell.)
real evil does not experience remorse or make efforts to change. and making 1-for-1 comparisons of Caitlyn to.. certain real world figures & groups that don't do those things not only (1) is a huge failing of your own understanding of humanity, but also (2) severely undermines the severity and depth of those real world evils and ideologies.
(this show does not and never did intend to be a comprehensive and accurate depiction of real world issues, but references and makes parallels to it anyway. whether or not the way they executed that is a disservice in and of itself, is a far more important discussion than a single character's moral judgement. though I personally think the show did the best it could with the unfortunate original league lore.)
fiction aside, we're never going to get anywhere dismantling awful ideologies and dealing with people's moral lapses in the real world if we outright refuse their attempts to turn around because it's easier to demonize them forever. rehabilitation is vital.

What I don't get is why news outlets and Netflix are trying to convince us that arcane was expensive to make. 250 million usd for both seasons they said, and obviously that's a lot of money, but they make the mistake of comparing it to big budget movies like Tangled. So you're telling me that I got an animated masterpiece that combines multiple different art styles fantastic voice acting and creative and passionate writing, that's 6-7 hours LONGER than major animated movies, and its the same fucking price?? And you're expecting me to agree with the corporations outlook, that it's too expensive? Yes, tangled is considered one of the most expensive animated movies, but arcane is like FOUR Tangleds. Many other 3D animated movies fall within the 160 million mark, but again, they're hours shorter than arcane was. I think the prices are comparable. I believe in saw someone (on reddit maybe?) divide the cost down to minutes of screen time for each show or movie and it becomes really obvious. I'm also pretty sure that many of these movie budgets do not include marketing in their overall expenses; arcane does.
This isnt even bringing live action tv shows into the equation; i dont think arcane even touches like the top thirty of those. And yet it's framed as such an expense!! Bitch its an incredibly successful tv show!! Ik Netflix is cheap as shit and has its own reputation to grapple with, but is the disdain for animation so much? Is it disdain for female lead action, for poc representation, for LGBT rep on screen? For the animation medium as a whole? I know the answer of course. But it's still very upsetting to acknowledge and think about.
Separately, arcane is absolutely crushing it. Ik act three is going to knock it out of the ballpark. Keep crushing corporate execs expectations please.

everyone parroting the word "fascist" to describe Caitlyn clearly doesn't know what it actually means or how to recognize fascist beliefs in a person and that's fucking terrifying. you are witnessing a fraction of symptoms common in fascism and ignoring the underlying cause in favor of jumping to a false, worst-possible diagnosis. and by doing so you are diluting the meaning of the word.

I love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite headcanons for caitvi are ones where they met as kids/teens, by far
Like it's so fucking cute, the idea that Caitlyn would be immediately drawn to Vi due to her curiosity, and Vi can't help but be smitten by Caitlyn's atypical behaviors and willingness to explore new concepts and experiences and ideas.
Just like when they meet as adults in the original universe, their backgrounds should make them incompatible, but there's that inexplicable draw that brings them together.
Imagine Caitlyn tags along with Jayce to his visits in the undercity without telling her parents and can't stop staring at the pink haired girl she sees there at the shop, just hanging around, and they meet eyes, and BOOM, instant connection. Vi also sneaks glances and realizes she's never seen a Piltie girl her age this close before. She wonders if they're all this pretty.
Imagine Vi is sneaking around topside to catch glimpses of Caitlyn, because she feels like she shouldn't be so drawn to a Piltie, but she is anyway.
Imagine one day Caitlyn actually catches sight of Vi across the street as she tries to remain inconspicuous, but Caitlyn would recognize that pink hair in a heartbeat. Imagine she sneaks away from her mother or whoever she's with in order to go talk to her.
"It's you," she says, shy yet bold.
Vi, of course, tries to play it off. "Dunno what you're talking about, topside." But the blush on her cheeks tells another story.
Caitlyn ignores the very obvious attempts at ignorance. "I've been wanting to come visit the shop again, but it's hard for me to find the chance to get away from my mother. She's kind of overprotective."
Vi decides it's best not to play dumb, but can't completely be honest about wanting to see her as well. "You're sure you wanna share about your life with me? Maybe your mom's got a point, shouldn't associate with undercity trash and all."
Caitlyn frowns. "I don't think you're trash. That's silly. Why would you call yourself that?"
Vi is caught a bit off guard. "Isn't that what all you Pilties think of us?"
"I certainly don't." Caitlyn cocks her head as this leaves Vi without a response. "Why are you here, anyway?"
Vi stumbles around in her head for an answer. Shoves her hands in her pockets. Kicks a rock aside. Shrugs. "W-why are YOU talking to me?"
This makes Caitlyn smirk. "I DID say I've been meaning to come back to the shop. What do you think?"
"Dunno. Could want a number of things there." Vi has been staring at the ground but peers up at Caitlyn here. "Give me a hint?" The barest of upturned lips.
This makes Caitlyn break out into a genuine smile that steals Vi's breath a bit. "You're kind of adorable, you know that?"
Vi sputters. "Am NOT."
"Are so." Caitlyn tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. Can't help but think the girl's freckles compliment her blush well.
Vi rolls her eyes, trying to pretend her brain isn't setting off fireworks. "I don't even know your name."
"Would you like to know it?" Caitlyn says, tilting her head.
"Since you insist on teasing me, I think it's fair."
"But you make it so easy," Caitlyn giggles. "Alright. I'm Caitlyn."
"Caitlyn," Vi breathes. Shakes her head. Clears her throat. Thrusts her hand out, scuffed up palms and knuckles and all. "I'm Vi."
"Vi. Pleasure to meet you." Caitlyn takes her hand without hesitation, notices how rough they feel compared to hers, incredibly intrigued.
"Caitlyn!" A voice calls. The girls both turn. It's her mother.
"Shit." Caitlyn breathes.
This makes Vi laugh, surprised. "Didn't know princesses could use words like that."
"Oh, hush." Caitlyn looks back at her, panicked. "I have to go. I'm sorry." Her eyes shift so they're alight with mischief. She jerks her head towards her mom. "You've got a talent for sneaking around, I assume?"
"And if I do?"
"Wait until we're out of sight. Maybe if you're good enough, you can stay under her radar." Caitlyn smirks. "Maybe you could teach me how to sneak about myself. Could come in handy."
Without giving Vi a chance to respond, she turns away, skirt swishing about.
And if Vi does exactly what Caitlyn says, following her home out of sight, and later taps at the same glass doors of the balcony she sees the girl disappear into after a while of spying, no one is the wiser. She figures she doesn't need to tell Vander what she's been up to just yet.

I love that I live in a time period that allows my little gay teenage brain to be able to watch this on my laptop
That level of animation is wild. What do you mean hundreds of people worked on this frame just to make sure we knew exactly the moment that Vi manages to put one hand inside Cait's pants and uses the other to pull her closer by the waist while Cait uses Vi's shoulders to hold on better?

the writers of this show are like my actual gods right now
yes cait obviously wants to be careful with vi bc she’s still healing, but that look in her eye??? it’s remorse. she’s thinking about when she hit vi all those months ago. and vi silently forgives her by pulling her in close again.
