imagine: the ring incident
pairing: gwilym x reader
word count: 1240
summary: you and gwilym were just friends. so why did it freak you out when you found an engagement ring?
warnings: none. pure fluff :)
You swiftly walked onto set, hoping that your boss, Rebecca, wouldn’t notice your late arrival.
“Ah!”, you squeaked as you collided with a tall brunette. Coffee spilled everywhere, but most noticeably, on your blouse. The young man’s eyes went wide.
“I’m so so sorry, here let me help you”, he quickly stated, grabbing some napkins. You saw panic and worry flood his eyes.
“Oh it’s fine, don’t worry about it,” you said quietly, silently thanking God that you worked in costume design.
You didn’t know this at the time, but Gwil had acquired a bit of a crush on you. Hours in hair and makeup meant that the two of you had to spend a lot of time together. What you and Gwil quickly realized was that you didn’t mind each other’s company.
“Ok”, Gwil smiled. “I’ll try to make it up to you by being less fussy about my wig.”
You actually thought Gwil’s complaints about Brian’s iconic hair were rather cute. He was such a cordial and relaxed man; it was fun to see him get a little neurotic every once in a while.
“We’ll see about that”, you replied with a laugh.
~
During a break, you approached Gwil’s trailer nervously. He had left one of his rings at his hair and makeup station, and typically you would have just given it back to him next time you saw him. Admittedly, you wanted an excuse to talk to him.
After taking a deep breath, you knocked. After a few seconds of waiting, you heard footsteps, and Gwil opened the door.
  “Hey”, he greeted warmly.
“Hi!” you replied. Holding out your hands, you revealed Gwil’s silver ring. “You left this, and I thought you might want it back.”
   Then it hit you.
After giving the ring another good look, you realized something. This wasn’t just any old ring. It was an engagement ring. It had to be. It certainly looked like one. Suddenly, you wondered how you could have been so stupid. So stupid that you mindlessly flirted with him, not even bothering to find out where he was at, relationship wise.
Come to think of it, you never really noticed him reciprocating any feelings. Gwilym was always friendly and kind, but never really pushed the boundary of flirtatious. It made so much sense now. And you felt like an idiot.
You snapped out of your trance when Gwil responded.
“Oh goodness, thank you so much! I can’t believe I forgot it. I must be getting old”, he joked.
Not wanting to prolong thing moment any longer, you quickly smiled and began to shift away from the door.
“No problem. I’ll, uh- see you around”.
And with that, you swiftly made your way back to your nook in hair and makeup. Truly, you didn’t have anything to do at the moment. You just wanted to avoid Gwil and the other cast members as much as possible. You hadn’t done anything explicitly, but you remembered the night that Ben, who you had known from a previous project, invited you out for drinks with the cast.
After a few vodka sodas, you wouldn’t say you were drunk, but you definitely had drinken enough to fall into the lovely stage of being buzzed; the stage where you overshared.
After talking about work for a while, the topic of relationships came up. Joe began to slur on about how he set Rami and Lucy up, and that if he isn’t the best man at the wedding, he was suing. As everyone vaguely discussed their romantic ventures, Gwil excused himself to get another drink. During his absence, Ben asked if you were seeing anyone. You explained that it had actually been quite a while since you had talked to anyone. Unsatisfied with your answer, Joe interjected.    “Is there anyone you want to be talking to?”
“Well, no, not particularly, I don’t think.”
The group gave each other knowing looks, not buying it.
    “Are you sure?”, Lucy cooed.
You just laughed in response. What were you going to say? I have a fat crush on the man who just walked away, but don’t tell him? It seemed so childish.
After a bit more chatting, Gwil made his way back to the booth. Before he got too close, Lucy said, “Gwil has been looking extra sharp recently, wouldn’t you say?”
   Rami laughed, half-offended. “Hey!”
“I’m just making an observation”, she teased back.
She wasn’t wrong. He looked good.
“He looks the same to me. But I still might cheat on Ben with him”, Joe joked.
“ Y/N, back me up on this. You’re a girl, and can’t you just tell? Like something weird happened, and now he looks extra dapper.”
You tried your best not to blush.
“Uh- yeah, I guess I can see. Not that he didn’t look pretty good to begin with though.”
Joe gave you a look. “So you do want to talk to someone. And it’s Gwil.”
“No! I’m just agreeing with Lucy’s point.”
Joe sipped his beer. “Ok. Well, I think it’s funny you say that because-” Ben gave him a sharp nudge.
“What? It’s not like he’s married yet or anything.”
Something you wouldn’t come to realize until later was that Gwil had heard the entire conversation.
~
You had never felt more stupid. And you didn’t want to have to face the group knowing the embarrassment you had unknowingly bestowed upon yourself.
Your attempt to avoid everyone failed, though. Hearing a knock on the door, you cautiously opened it. It was Gwil. Great.
“Hi. Um, so I’m not sure if I’ve just taken something completely out of context or what. Um, did you think this was an engagement ring or something?” Gwil had never sounded this nervous before. He was usually so suave.
“Well, I mean, I kind of figured. Is it not?
Gwil quickly replied, “No! No, it’s not.”
What was it then? It didn’t make any sense.
  Realizing your confusion, Gwil elaborated.
“This ring is like, a family heirloom of sorts. I sometimes wear it if I know I’m going to see my family that day. Why it looks so much like a wedding band, I don’t know.”
You were suddenly anxious for a completely different reason than before.
“Oh, I see. Well that’s thoughtful of you. To, you know, wear it”, you replied with a smile, slightly embarrassed.
“Anyway, I just wanted to clear that up with you, just because. Well just because I did `` Gwil said, suppressing a grin.
Your breath hitched slightly. You had never wanted someone so badly.
“Oh, okay. Well, I’m glad you have it now.”
The two of you made eye contact for what seemed like forever. It wasn’t until Gwil leaned in more, that you realized how close the two of you were. If he made one more step towards you, you would be kissing.
Knowing this, Gwil took one step forward, cautiously kissing you. His lips parted from yours briefly, as if he was waiting for your permission. Realizing this, you leaned back in, kissing him, just a little deeper this time.
It was a feeling you could barely describe with words. There was so much longing behind, as if the two of you had been waiting to do it for months. Perhaps you were.
After what seemed like only a moment, you broke apart. He gave a breathy laugh.
“Well, it’s a good thing you’re not engaged”, you smiled.

imagine: crisis.-P
pairing: ben x reader
word count: 2,184
summary: the morning feels strange on the set of bohemian rhapsody, and an unimaginable crisis is in store.
warnings: mentions of guns+shooting. no graphic descriptions.
quick a/n: fair warning I spent like 4 hours on this but i didn't proofread it at all. i hope you like it:) i am very aware people are sensitive to this subject, and i made sure nothing was graphic, but if you are sensitive to things like this, proceed with caution.
10:00 AM, Friday
Walking into work felt strange today. The atmosphere was still. No trace of wind in the air. It was the middle of November in London. The only thing you could count on was wind. Nothing had happened. Everyone was acting almost normal, but everything around you seemed more muted, like everyone was talking quieter. You figured that your mind was just playing tricks on you. With the cold you’d had this week, it would make sense. Everything’s a little more foggy when you’re under the weather.
Still, your typically energetic, buzzing work environment felt hushed. Trying to brush it off, you quickly headed to the stage, where you knew the boys were. You figured the weird feeling in your stomach would pass once you made some human interaction. Boots clacking onto the stage, your presence was made known. Waving at the boys with a smile, Joe, Gwil,  Rami,  and Ben turned to you excitedly.
  “Y/N!”, Joe exclaimed humorusly.
You laughed in response. If someone could destroy a serious, dark vibe with one word, it would be Joe.
You and the boys had really become like a family. At 21, you felt like you had four big brothers on set - or, three. You were nervous to admit to anyone but yourself that you had held a special place in your heart for Ben. Initially, you were drawn to his strong, yet warm presence. You felt a strange sense of safety when you were with him. Not that you felt unsafe with the other boys. Being around Ben was just different. It was like a halo surrounded you when you were together, like you were untouchable.
Wanting to keep up the light mood, you were quick to joke.      “Oh Gwil, doesn’t your hair just look lovely as always. I seriously think you should consider wearing that wig forever.”
Rami chuckled at that. Being the cheekiest of the group, you could always count on Rami to poke fun at you,  or at least laugh when someone beat him to it.
Ben stayed quiet for much of the small talk and banter within the group. It wasn’t typical of him to over-share anyway, but something felt strange today. He would usually at least laugh along or drop a silly “mate” every once in a while. Wondering what was wrong, but not wanting to press the issue, you decided to change the subject to a more work-related discussion. Although it was so much fun, you could hardly call it work. You couldn’t lie, helping a group of handsome men learn to play instruments came with lots of fun.
“So, which one of  you needs the most work today?”, you inquired sarcastically.
“I’ll admit it. It’s absolutely me. This guitar solo is ridiculous. It’s times like these that I remember I’m not Brian May”, Gwil announces.
“It’s true. He’s been playing the same wrong chords for two hours”, Rami jokes.
Agreeing to help Gwil first, you send the boys off to disperse and practice their various instruments individually. Gwilym was your sole romantic confidant. He was the only person you ever dared to tell about Ben. Mature and a good listener, Gwil was the best person to talk to. Hoping to maybe get some information about Ben’s unexplained mood and let some things off your chest, you were secretly happy he needed extra help today.
“Alright, hit me. What’s the song?”
      “Don’t Stop Me Now.”
You made a face. “Oh, hell. I didn’t even know you needed to learn that. You are indeed in a tough situation.”
       “Tell me about it.”
The two of you laughed, and Gwil could sense your hesitation to start actual practice. Knowing you, he understood you had a personal matter to divulge with him. He didn’t mind. It was nice having someone to depend on with intimate matters of the heart.
“Okay, what’s up?”, Gwil asks gently.
“Has Ben been acting strange today, like quieter, or is just me?”
Gwil sighs. “It’s not just you. We all kind of noticed. Come to think of it, this whole morning has been strange. We were counting on Joe’s stupid jokes to distract us from it.”
“It so odd you say that. I got the strangest feeling when I walked onto set this morning. I tried to brush it off, because I’m just coming off of a cold, but now that you say it, I don’t know.
“Hm” was all Gwilym could think to say. Mutually deciding that they should try their best to shake themselves of these unprescended feelings, they practiced for a little while. You helped for a solid fifteen minutes, but once Gwil understood what he was supposed to be playing, he could practice rather independently. Using this to your advantage, you began to mingle around to the rest of the boys to lend a helping hand. You started with Ben, which you confess was truly just to check up on him on a personal level. Seeing him so somber worried you. You didn’t like that feeling. It always seemed too strong for your heart to handle.
Approaching his drum set gentley, you spoke.
“Hi”, you started simply with a warm smile.
He looked up at you with joy and radiance, but unexplainable intensity, and slight glimpse of concern.
“Oh, Y/N, I’ve been meaning to find you for a little while. Um, not to be weird. Are you, like, okay right now?”
You hesitated before responding, worrying that his concern would grow if you admitted the day’s strange aroma.
“Yeah, I’m feeling fine, just coming off that cold, you know?”,you replied gentley.
“Okay-okay good.” His tone shifted. Voice growing quiter, he spoke again. “It’s just me being odd, I’m sure. But I’m getting this weird feeling. Like something bad is going to happen. It’s dumb, I can’t explain it.”
Your entire mood shifted. None of this was in your head, then? Ben’s concern only filled your brain with questions. Why would he be asking you specifically? Why not mention it  to the boys as well? Realizing nothing about this day was normal, you tried to go on with your day as normal. You usually had lots of fun at work. It was in everyone’s best  interest to keep it that way. Counting on Joe to joke your worries away, you actually found the best distraction in Rami. He was so comitted and focused. It forced you to ignore your thoughts.  You truly worked. “Somebody to Love” was sounding rather lovely after your session of practices with Rami.
2:00 PM
That’s when you heard the first shot. It was rather distant, and when the sound initially registered in everyone’s ears, it was unclear what to make of it. Something heavy could have fallen on the floor.
The intensity of the situation wasn’t made clear until you felt Ben’s gentle yet strong grip on your wrist. Looking at you directly in the eye, Ben’s presence alone made something click in your mind. That was a gun shot. After what seemed like forever, but was not even a minute, everyone seemed to be on the same page. You, Ben, Joe, Gwilym, and Rami all looked at each other with frightened eyes. Silently understanding the fervor of the situation, the five of you quietly shuffled off the stage, quickly searching for somehwere to  hide. Rami’s quick intelligence let you all to a small room behind the stage that had a door. More importantly, a door that locked. He quietly as possible, turned the handle, and held the door open. After the  four of you made it in, he stood out the door, like he didn’t intend on going inside. You gave him a look, and as soon as he noticed your silent questioning, he whispered.
        “Lucy”.
That’s when you truly felt your heart beat out of your chest, anxiety quickly making itself known in your chest. People could die. Rami is willing to risk his life to find Lucy on this massive set. He could die.
Giving him an understanding nod, tears filling your eyes, he smiled soberly at you. As if to say a tentative goodbye. With that, he was off, and the door shut behind him. This left you, Joe, Gwilym, and Ben in the small, dark room. None of you could think of anything to say to each other. You were only able to focus on one thing.
Ben hadn’t let go of your hand. The two of you were sitting side by side, feet  parallel to eachother. You turned to look at him, and you felt something you had certainly felt before, but hadn’t recognized. Love. Unconditional Love. It was what you were so afraid of. That look in his eyes. The idea that someone could care about you so much. You realized you would have died for him in that moment, and he would have died for you. It was so extremely dangerous.
             Another shot. Closer this time.
Joe’s previously silent sobs could be heard now. He whispered with anger and confusion through his tears, “Guys, what the fuck is this? This shouldn’t be happening. Why is this happening?” Your soul hurt for him. It always hurts the most to see the ones that smile the most upset.
Gwil was good in crisis. He successfully calmed Joe down. Tried to reassure us that everything was going to be okay. For some reason though, his calmness made you the most sad. It was like he had accepted his fate. He thought he was going to die today.
After twenty more minutes of waiting, Gwil and Joe began to drift off. There was nothing anyone could do now. Might as well rest.
You and Ben couldn’t bring yourselves to sleep. It was like you were staying awake for each other.
Nobody had said a word since Joe’s brief outburst. Finally, Ben looked and you directly, whispering as quietly as possible.
“We can’t talk a lot. It’s too loud. But if there’s one thing I get to say to you it’s this. I am not letting you die today.”
That’s when you truly felt your heart shatter. Not knowing what else to do, you slowly released your hands from his and pulled him in for a hug. As you released from each other, you were inches away. If one of you moved, you would be kissing.
That’s when you heard the door open. Gwil and Joe shot awake. Three police officers revealed themselves to you and it felt like everyone finally took a deep breath out.
The four of you were escorted out of the room, and sent outside. It was sunset.
            The London wind had returned.
Everything felt safe again. One thing that never changed, though, was that halo. That strange halo you felt around Ben.
Huddling close to each other, You, Ben, Joe, and Gwil walked outside, where you saw police cars everywhere, as well as the cast and crew. Your work family. The people you realized more than ever were so important to you.
You saw Rami standing to the side of the scene, holding Lucy next to him. Thank God. The four of you raced to the couple, and you all embraced in the tightest, most emotion filled hug any of you had ever had. You were reunited. Everything was normal again.
~
Nobody dared to walk to their car alone. Everyone brought a partner. Besides, the group decided it would be best to stay together that night. They would all meet at Gwilym’s. Ben walked you to your car. It seemed almost obvious that he would at this point.
Before you got into your car, you decided it was your turn to brave. Your turn to tell Ben how you felt, since he had practically done so himself.
Looking into his green eyes, you spoke with no hesitation.
           “I love you.”
He looked at for a moment, seemingly shocked at your words. You elaborated.
“If I’ve learned anything today, it’s that we have no idea what could happen. In the strangest of places, on the most normal of days. I don’t know how we all felt it. It doesn’t make sense. The only thing I understand right now is that I love you.”
He soaked in your words for a moment, and without hesitation, leaned in to kiss you. When your lips touched, it was like they were molded for each other. The kiss was so natural, yet so full of longing, like you had been waiting years to do it. Maybe you had. After a minute or so, your lips parted.
“I’ve loved you since- I don’t know. I can’t remember a time that I didn’t. I never thought I’d be in a situation like this. I just- I’m now just grateful I was alive to say it.”
The sincerity and intensity in his voice is what you had fallen in love with. And you knew after what happened today, neither you or Ben would let each other go.

imagine #1: joe gets jealous -K
pairing: joe x reader
word count: 658
summary: joe gets jealous of your relationship with ben.
“That’s fucking crazy! Being a guitar god in 5 minutes is not easy”, you exclaimed.
“I know! I probably butchered all of the solos”, Gwil laughed, referring to the feat of overcoming the monstrosity of Brian May’s guitar licks.
“I’m sure you did fine”, you exclaimed, laughing along with the rest of the cast at dinner.
“Mate, come back and talk to me when you learn all of Roger’s fills,” Ben commented with a smirk. The rest of the cast chuckled at his remark, and he sent you a quick wink, nudging you slightly.
You and Lucy had been flatmates for about a year and a half now and once she got the opportunity, she introduced you to the boys. As you got to know them, you and Joe became quite acquainted with one another. It was only after a few awkward texts and hello’s that he asked you out. Since then, you and Joe had been seeing one another but the rest of the cast didn’t know.
“I’m going to go get some air”, Joe quickly quipped and stood up from the table.
“What’s up with him?”, Lucy enquired.
“I’m not sure, I’m going to go check up on him,” you said as you stood up from your seat. You headed out to see Joe running his hands on the back of his neck as he leaned against the balcony railing.
“Hey, are you okay?”, you said quietly, resting against the wall.
“Yeah, I’m fine”, Joe replied with resentment in his tone.
    “That’s rubbish, what’s wrong?”
“I don’t really want to talk about it right now”.
“Joe, I want to help”. You walked close to Joe and lightly bumped him.
    “It’s justーnevermind”.
    “Joseph Francis Mazzello”.
“Okay fine, I just don’t like how you and Ben areーjust like I don’t know”, Joe murmured quietly.
“I know we're not officially together but it just bothers me. I like you a lot andーand I don’t want to lose you”, Joe looked down at the ground as he finished his sentence. “I’m sorry, let’s just pretend this didn’t happen.” Joe began to start past you but as he did you grabbed his arm.
“Joe, you really think I would go out with Ben?” you said with a slight smile creeping on to your face. “I like you a lot and Ben can in no way be compared to you and your perm”.
A smile formed on Joe’s face with a slight chuckle coming from him.
“I’m glad”. Joe laughed while glancing up at your eyes.
“Let’s head back and you can tell them that you were feeling a little lightheaded or something”, you said with humor in your tone. Joe nodded and you both headed towards the table. You and Joe took your seats and joined in on the conversation.
“So you and Joe?” Lucy whispered quietly in your ear. Meanwhile, the cast was in hysterics about Ben lying to the producers about his ability to play the drums.
“Hm?”, you asked, pretending to be clueless.
“Y/N, I can sense it. I can tell that you both have this—this connection”, Lucy replied with grandiosity in her tone. “Plus, I heard you both talking out there when I went to get more wine..”, she said, holding her head down low with a smirk on her face.
“Shit” was all you could say in response, moving the food around on your plate in an attempt to deflect off what Lucy had just said.
“Don’t worry, you guys are cute. Joe talks about you on set all the time anyway, so we all assumed that something was going on”, Lucy comforted, laughing at your response.
Glancing at Joe, you felt a sudden wave a happiness wash over you. His eyes lingered to yours, and he raised his eyebrows, making you giggle. You could tell that Joe liked being the reason for your laughter. If you were being honest, you didn’t mind it either.

fic #1: joe and the bass:) -P
pairing: joe x original character
word count: 1,572
summary: joe and one of bo rhap’s sound mixers hit it off when he plays the bass for her :)
Ann arrived on set Monday morning expecting a typical work day. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Working as a sound mixer for Bohemian Rhapsody was pretty much as good as it gets, considering the iconic music that came with it. Although days were long and required focus, it was all worth it. It was exciting work, after all.
As she pulled her red Jeep Wrangler into the lot, she noticed Joe, one of the actors on set, was parked in spot adjacent to hers. He was sitting in his car, looking as though he was waiting for someone. Ann had always thought Joe was cute, but didn’t have strong enough feelings to act on. Besides, they were both quite busy throughout the day and only found time to exchange “hellos”.
Ann made a few maneuvers to make sure her car was parked between the lines and eventually took her key out of ignition. She could be a bit of a precisionist, notably while parking, and always made sure her wheels were perfectly parallel to the lines bordering her spot.
Ann took off her seatbelt and glanced to her left. She grabbed her purse from the passenger seat, and glanced at Joe before giving him a quick wave and smile before hopping out of the car. Quick “hellos”, as usual.
As soon as Joe saw her, he smiled back enthusiastically and swiftly got out of his car. He walked up to Ann cooly, trying to seem nonchalant, although he had been waiting for her to arrive so he could strike up a conversation on the way in.
“Hey Ann, how are you?”, Joe said, trying to seem relaxed. He feared he sounded too cordial, however.
Ann was taken aback. Not because she didn’t want to talk to Joe, but because she didn’t really expect it. Wasn’t he doing something in his car?
“I’m good, how about you?” Ann replied. She was also trying to seemed breezy and calm, and succeeded without really trying. It was that very type of demeanor that Joe liked about her. He was typically a fun, silly person to be around, although he couldn’t deny his occasional neurotic tendencies. He tried his best to cover it up, but Ann just thought it was part of what made him so charming.
“Good! Good. Just a little nervous for today, you know?”.
Ann laughed. “I can’t say that I do? Are you getting a funky new haircut?”
Joe rolled his eyes playfully in response. “No, but don’t manifest it. This perm will be the death of me.”
“I don’t know, it really isn’t that bad. Maybe curls suit you”, Ann said, trying to comfort him without seeming overly earnest. “Anyway, what are you nervous about?”
“Oh, well, I guess it’s silly, but we’re filming the Another One Bites the Dust studio scene today, and since I go back and forth from dialogue to the beginning riff on the bass, I assume they’re going to want me to do it without any backing track. It’s not that I don’t know how to do it, it’s just a little scary playing completely by myself, you know? Oh god, I’ve talked your ear off, sorry”, Joe responds, just a little sheepishly.
Ann smiled sympathetically. “No, no, don’t apologize. I don’t mind. I bet that can be a little nerve-racking. If it makes you feel better though, I’ll be right behind the camera, recording it all onto the sound mixer”, Ann responds with a laugh.
Joe smiles. “You know, it kind of does.”
~     Joe had been neurotically practicing the same riff over and over again, afraid that he would mess up once the cameras started rolling. It was time. The assistant director called action, and before Joe knew it, he was reciting his lines without even thinking about it. Finally, it was time.
“Let’s see how good of a boxer you really are!”, Ben (as Roger Taylor, obviously) said.
That was Joe’s que. He twiddled his fingers, and finally, when the time came, he played. Needless to say, he was nervous, but had to conceal it. He was an actor. Staying in character was very clearly the most crucial part of his job. John Deacon probably wasn’t nervous in that moment; Joe had to act like he wasn’t either.
Determined as he was, Joe was able to play the riff perfectly in one take. It certainly helped that Ann was behind the camera cheering him on with kind eyes and a smile.
After a few more takes, shooting was complete for the day. As the cast and crew slowly started to shuffle off set, Ann approached Joe.
“Hey sorry to do this to you, but the mixer didn’t pick up the riff very well. Could you do it again for me real quick? I didn’t want to ask earlier because I didn’t want to put you on the spot in front of everyone like that”, Ann explained sympathetically.
“Oh yeah, no problem”, Joe responded casually.
Almost everyone had headed out of the room, and both Ann and Joe were conscious of the fact that they were waiting until it was just the two of them. The two tried to convince themselves that it was just so the sound quality could be enhanced, but Ann knew better than anyone that sound mixing didn’t work like that.
Gwil, Ben, and Rami were the last to leave. They pretended to be preoccupied, but were just eavesdropping. They knew that Joe had a little bit of a crush on Ann. As they finally decided to leave them alone, Gwil subtly winked at Joe, to which he received an eye roll.
Ann swiftly set up the sound mixer and gave Joe the go ahead. He played the riff once more, visibly more relaxed than before. Ann smiled and gave him a thumbs up.
    “That was perfect, thanks!”
“Was it really? It keeps just sounding off in my head”, Joe replied sheepishly.
“Of course. I wish I could pick up on an instrument like that”, Ann reassured.
Just then, Joe decided to make a move. A friendly one, but still, a move.
“Do you want me to teach you? It’s actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it”, Joe said warmly.
Ann gave a closed-mouth smile. “Oh, I wouldn’t want to waste your time. You barely ever get a break.”
“No, no I don’t mind at all! Besides, it’ll be fun. There’s no pressure or anything”, Joe replied convincingly.
Ann gave in, but made Joe promise that if he needed to go he wouldn’t be too polite and head out.
Since most of the instruments had been moved off set once shooting finished, Joe and Ann had one bass to work with. Joe began to teach her the notes, and demonstrated how she should move her fingers along the strings. To guide her, Joe decided to put her hands on top of Ann’s. He admitted to himself that he realized it was rather flirtatious of him, but figured it was fair because his heart was practically beating out of his chest.
Ann was no different. She hadn’t expected this. Not that it was even a huge deal, but it changed her perspective a bit. She had never considered Joe in this way. She figured it was hopeless.
But Ann knew flirting when she saw it. And that’s what he was doing.
“Yeah, there you go. It’s not that hard, right? If I can do it, then a brick could do it too”, Joe joked.
“Hey, don’t sell yourself short. It’s cool that you’re able to do that. Makes you interesting.”
Joe blushed. “Well, now you can too. So I guess we’re both interesting.”

Ann and Joe walked to their cars together. They were both trying to slow down their pace in an attempt to make their time together last longer. What both of them eventually realized was that if they wanted, they could spend time together elsewhere. It just never seemed like an option to them.
As Joe unlocked his car and headed toward the driver’s seat, Ann decided to be bold. After all, it was clear they both liked each other.
Nervously, Ann spoke. “Hey, uh- I was wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime, like not at work?”
Joe didn’t respond right away, which prompted an anxious Ann to get insecure. Defeatedly, she said, “You know, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything, I think I just read into today too much, sorry.”
Shocked, Joe shuffled over to her. He hadn’t meant for that to happen. He did like Ann. But Joe was just as nervous as she was. He didn’t want to respond too enthusiastically, or not excited enough. So his neurotic mind got the best of him. But Joe wasn’t going to let that stop him.
“Hey, no no no, I don’t think you misread it at all. I felt the same way, I’m just bad at socially interaction”, Joe joked, trying to lighten the mood.
“You don’t just have to say that. It’s okay, I get it.”
Joe realized there wasn’t much he could say to sway her. So instead, Joe gently kissed her on the cheek.
“I promise I’m not just saying it. I’m going to call you tonight and we’re making plans”, Joe announced, walking back to his car.
Ann had never blushed so much before.

 Joe did in fact, call.
