Watching Now: Stranger Things (Season 2, the Duffer Brothers)

“Friends don’t lie”

5/5 Stars - In love with everything about this show !!

        For those of you who have somehow not heard of the phenomenon that is Stranger Things (or have avoided it because of all the promotion), I’m here to tell you it’s incredible, amazing, and everything else that it’s hyped up to be. To provide a brief synopsis: the story revolves around a group of 4 middle-school boys who begin to investigate the odd goings-ons of their otherwise small town - Hawkins, Indiana. Along the way, they meet a mysterious young girl, Eleven, who has a handful of superpowers. There are several other key characters that are introduced as the mystery unfolds including, but not limited to, Jonathan - the School Outcast, who has a crush on Nancy - the innocent teacher’s pet, who falls for Steve - the School Jock. What I love about this series is how so many of these characters start out as stereotypes, but slowly evolve into more 3-dimensional characters. To keep this spoiler-free, I’ll refrain from elaborating but needless to say, the character development as well as the script and the overall arc of the story are fantastic.

        Another thing I loved about this series is the 80s theme that permeates throughout the entire show. The nostalgia for the 80s is not just a background element, but rather a feeling that is evident in every aspect of the show. The setting, the background, the music, the outfits, are all nods to fads from the 80s. Again, I want to keep this spoiler free, but there are several references to Stephen King’s characters and novels as well as a sound-track that has beats from the Pac-Man arcade game. And don’t even get me started on the icon that is Winona Ryder (I would die for her, honestly).

        Overall, I thought the show was impeccably written, gorgeously designed, and flawlessly executed (by 13-14 year-old actors, nonetheless). Though the show is often advertised as a scary horror series, it is more of a mystery series that is heavily nostalgic for the 80s (think Ghostbusters meets Scooby-doo). So, for those of you that are looking for your next binge or even for those of you that don’t watch much television, I highly highly highly recommend this show, as I feel it more a work of art than anything else

– Fans of Stranger Things might also like: IT (the new movie and the novel by Stephen King), the Stranger Things playlists on Spotify (personalized for every character), The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater, and the Goonies.

I actually really like this spread. Last week’s bled through though so I did everything on a new sheet of paper and glued it in. Also, the drawing ideas were not originally mine I used someone else’s drawings as a reference and did my own interpretation of it. I still worked hard though and hope you guys enjoy my spread!
