the funniest thing about the invader zim comics (especially issue 50) is how aware of the fandom they are and how determined they are in reassuring you that zim and dib are ENEMIES, and irkens are EVIL UNFEELING ROBOTS, — which after the lil meat man issue kind of falls flat — and how NO ONE UNDERSTAAAANDSS so we need to HAMMER IT IN. if it wasn't so self conscious and just continued on how it was it would be fine. meta comments here and there are funny but jesus christ calm down! yes, the fandom, especially in the 2010s, misinterpreted the characters like crazy and zadr has always been here but let them do their thing? it'll happen anyway. (i'm aware this goes against my dib textpost i made a while back but I'M A MULTIFACETED BEING OK??? and it was ultimately a dunk on florpus more than on the fandom)

i just feel like the later comics are focused on reassuring the audience that the characters are a certain way more than they should be. chammy wamboo was a show that the fandom's going under the creators skin more than anything. it constantly feels like i'm being hit on the head and getting "THIS IS THE TRUTH!! THESE ARE THE REAL CHARACTERS!! YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!" screamed in my ears.

If defective irkens are neurodivergent, once could read Zim's human disguise as a subtle metaphor for masking as neurotypical

Adding on, Tak's human disguise is noted to be so good that Dib didn't even suspect that she's an irken. Many (including myself) read Tak as defective as well. Getting an autism/ADHD diagnosis is notoriously difficult for anyone AFAB because, for whatever reason, they tend to mask a lot more.

Not saying anything in particular with this one, it's just some food for thought

it always feels so off when people give dib a more pacifist personality or make him act more,, normal?? when in the show he's often 🤏 this close to hurting either others or himself and he does NOT see zim as anything other than an enemy. he's still 12 but he's a neglected, misunderstood and hated 12 year old, and his behavior is one of the worse outcomes of that. but then i remember he just is a normal 12 yo in florpus and i understand where the people are coming from with their interpretations. the rewrite of the membrane family in florpus will always be my least favorite part.
