Felix Baumgartner's Test Jump - Red Bull Stratos (by redbull)
Crazy to see a sports drink company is pushing the envelope on technology for a simple marketing stunt.  I don't imagine this will make up for government science budget cuts, but it definitely helps push a younger generation to dream again.  Between commercial space companies like Space X and marketing powerhouses like Red Bull, we are recapturing the excitement that once had a man landing on the moon.

Given Fleet Week in town, I read a great article on the future of naval activities in space.  This seems especially relevant today, given the number of countries pushing for space travel.  It would be naive to think we can sort out our differences by simply leaving earth behind.  The author gives a great overview of why we have massive carriers today and why we may not need them in space.  As a fan of Battlestar Gallactica, I love the idea of a future where we build huge "motherships" in space to ferry people and smaller ships.  However, given the physics of space construction and travel, the future reality may be pretty far from some of the sci-fi fantasy of today.
