must-read mafia series

Sometimes, there's nothing better than a trashy throw-away book series... boy have I got one for you.

One thing I can say for certain is that it's got excellent characterization and character exploration- you'll see what I mean. This series switches between romances, so you never get bored, and there are PLENTY of them... so many I wasn't even able to read them all. Still, I went through quite a few.

Bound by Honor by Cora Reilly give and keeps on giving.

There are some specific tropes that you might not be interested in, though. So consider:

- forced, arranged marriage

- bridal purity stuff

- I wouldn't say rape but there are violent sexual scenes and other attack scenes that arise in the book

- possessive MC: "you're mine" trope

If that interests you though, give it a read.

PS. be sure to look into the side series as long as you remain interested, there are multiples involving different mafia families that intertwine- you'll see.

Mafia Romance beginner? Read this.

The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori was *chef's kiss*.

After endless (and fruitless) searching on wattpad for independent mafia romances that could hold up to criticism, I decided published works may be the way to go.

Will you have to pay for this? (legally technically yeah.)

Anyways, if you can get over that bump, this is a fast read, with good pace, and is a 3 part series, focusing on different romances!

Think smut and teenage angst.. the two things mafia romance fanatics like myself set out to find. (:

Formidable Dramione Fic: The Auction

Fan of Dramione? You're in the right place. I really enjoyed this one! It kept me engrossed throughout all 325,000 words.

This fic was a really incredible piece of work, and I have fallen in love with the writing style of this author- once again.

Expressing my gratitude for this amazing read to the creators: @lovesbitca8 and the pretty-much famous betas for this story: (@saintdionysus and raven_maden.)

Think Manacled, but less crying involved. It was fast-paced and the intricate plot kept me completely engaged the entire read.

There is enough smut to fill any Draco voids you may have in your life (trust me- I know,) and while the slow-burn is a component, it really makes the entire fic better, and the wait is well worth it.

PS While this fic can be read independently, the author suggests reading The Right Thing To Do beforehand, which I believe is a good fic to read anyways. If you can't wait to take the plunge into The Auction, though, I think we'll forgive you. It's quite frankly... irresistible. (:

Tragic Dramione Masterpiece

Now, we all know Dramione is known for the usual emotional heart-wrenching, but this fic must be my favorite to date.

200,000 words, leaky eyes throughout. Let me state some reasons:

- better focus on PTSD than other fics, it gives raw emotions and makes the reading experience altogether more authentic

- it has a really well-thought-out and realistic evolution of character thought-process

- smut level is good and made this fic run so much deeper

- beautiful writing style

- clever and original Dramione plot

People will really get mad at anything. What's it to you? If you don't like the website, you aren't being forced to use ao3, but OP can't really come after the (HUGE) archive fanbase with wildly inaccurate claims just to be furious about something on the internet... come on now. What is the point?

It’s so fucking infuriatingly frustrating that so many of ao3′s userbase is so adamant that ao3 is nonprofit even though it’s owned by a corporation so that shit is a fucking lie in of itself, like. They invest in stocks and constantly people try and push this stupid as fuck idea that there’s no ads!! :)) it’s free!! when it’s been in beta for literal fucking years with one of the worst filtration and blocking systems I’ve seen to date and rampant disgusting nsfw that’s unregulated and crops up to previews for themes anyways so why do we constantly have to have mile long posts defending such a fundamentally bad website from it’s core instead of actually thinking critically for once I fucking hate all of you.

Famous Dramione Slow Burn

Talk about a SLOW COOKER! This one will really is the definition of slow-burn. But as we know, when done correctly, a good slow roast can keep you up at night (literally like this one I did not sleep until I finished it.)

It really is a good read! 175,000 words, just enough to get you nice and invested. I really liked the pace of this one... at no point did I think events were dull- which is hard to pull off! Credit where credit's due to @lovesbitca8.

Bonus, this has two related fics, a Midnight Sun vibe of the same story from Draco's perspective, and a Voldy-wins-AU of the story called The Auction. This is popular, I know, but I think everyone would suggest reading this fic before the Auction, even though it can be read independently.

Dramione Omegaverse Fic

Think of it more as an a/b/o fic that happened to be Dramione than the other way around. I would recommend this fic to anyone who's looking for a shorter (170,000 w,) smut-filled fic to satisfy you after maybe a very depressing read. (Ex: I read this straight out of Isolation to make myself feel better.)

Two amazing things, put together. Now, this is the first a/b/o thing I've read (ik the shame don't look at me,) and it's either your thing or it isn't.

I liked this one because it was very smutty, but I must say that the fic is definitely more heavily focused on the alpha/omega aspect than the usual Dramione obstacles, even though those are there. So if you like that stuff, this fic has a good tempo and great writing courtesy of @senlinyu!

Isolation is a popular one- I know this! (all Dramione stans hail @bex-chan-blog.)

If you haven't read it, do consider it... this is a real 280,000 word Dramione masterpiece you can't ignore. There's less smut and it's less explicit than On The Nature of Daylight, which I've previously recommended, but there was still enough for me.

The main focus is really the inner dialogue which is so captivating throughout, especially bc Bex is a realist, and the slow-evolving progression of thought for both Draco and Hermione is really remarkable.

It's long, emotionally demanding (cried multiple times), and perfect for all who love a good emotional turmoil/tragic lovers read... and who doesn't?!

PS if you don't like ff.net, there's a version on Wattpad if you're a psycho and prefer that- but I think reading the OG and supporting the author is always best!

Where to even being with this one... great writing style, multiple POVs, smut scenes (vast and often) kept the story pace quick, and it's pretty dark (if you're into that- and I'm guessing you are since it's Dramione you stan.)

I promise you will become immediately invested, and since I had to suffer through the emotional turmoil- so do you! haha (yeah ik fuck me right.)

Special shoutout to the author @ikorous for writing an absolutely stunning story. I tore through it, and it was all-consuming (seriously.) PS please make me your beta. I'm kidding but I'm not.

Great Peaky Blinders Fic!

I really liked this one- mostly because it gave me vibes fics often don't, especially with the personality of the original female character, which was something I haven't seen in any fics yet.

Azriel short love story (woohoo for smut)

THIS IS THE ONE! Besides Charting the Course, which I've recommended before, this is my next favorite az fic.

Lemme tell you why: not too long but substantial enough for real feelings, conflicts, and tropes! (60,000 w completed.) It's also written well. It's not my favorite mostly bc writing in Charting the Course is unmatched, but this is pretty good too. I also REALLY LOVE the final chapter sex scene, and it's unlike any I've come across in the fandom, being my reason to recommend it.

Short azriel smut+emotions!

Now, this author is pretty popular regarding good az smut, this is one of my favorites that I've found sifting through it all.

it's 10,000 words, so not too long. I liked how it was written (in the beginning giving me 6 of crow vibes) and the perspective as well.

I've had an emotional void bc I just finished a book, so I liked how this gave emotions without too much commitment. I even cried a bit during chapter 3 which was unexpected. It was honestly just written very beautifully, and I can't imagine you'll regret reading it.

Manacled by @senlinyu is no secret. Obviously, it's widely known. I just reread the last HPs and decided it was time to investigate all the fuss around dramione. Oh brother.

Manacled is one of the most beautiful things I've ever read, truly. It's not lighthearted or fun or easy to read but kept me up night after night- seriously I haven't slept for a phat minute.

I also wanna congratulate @avendell, the artwork is truly incredible and that image of grown-up Draco and Hermione is the best I've come across. It completely brought it to life for me.

Now, there are very hard themes attached to this fic, so be sure you're comfortable with the archive warnings before you continue (:

I don't judge anyone who is uncomfortable reading rape/non-con scenes; it makes perfect sense to me. I also understand how (doing my best to not spoil) many people could be unable to support dramione under those conditions. However, please go into it with mostly an open mind, see what happens, you could be surprised like me!

I also know there are those out there who could not fathom picking Draco over Ron for Hermy, one of them being my best friend (so stubborn she won't even try it!), if you're open or curious though (or not a lil bitch like her haha jk) ...

After book sucks btw

I've made it to chapter 13 (small chapters), and verbally said "this is painful to read" multiple times by now. If there are people out there who like this book (and some must bc it got a book and movie deal) WHY?? Have I not read far enough or do you have dumpster fire taste hahahahha.

Officially have given up already, and I've stuck it through a lot of books, trust me.

My main reason for disliking it (one of many): main character has the most unbearably annoying inner monologue, and it unrealistic and unrelatable for me.
