Please pray for the island of Puerto Rico, my people are experiencing one of the biggest droughts they ever have had and the government is alternating 3 days without water allowance and 1 day with water (that means no showers, no tap water, no laundry, no anything). The US gov’t is doing pretty much nothing to help and the US news is of course not talking about it.

Police violently kidnapped me from my home without my consent, drugged me, shackled me to a bed (arms and legs) for hours w/o food/water/bathroom/connection to my loved ones. They ripped open my self-harm cuts (which were from the night before) making them bleed and have to get stitches. I was dragged from the safety of my home where i was being cared for by my support system (my two friends) and in the process of resting/recovering. My two friends were maced and arrested.
I was criminalized and treated like a monster because i am a person living with a mental illness. The police and the hospital caused me so much more trauma than my episode the night before. I was violated, stripped of my rights, and abused.
Also, it just happens to be Mental Health Awareness Month… the irony!
FUCK THE POLICE. FUCK THE SYSTEM.

Anxiety attacks aren’t always hyperventilating and rocking back and forth
Anxiety attacks can take different forms, such as:
Unpredictable bouts of rage or irritability
Nit-pickiness (obsessive behavior, which may be a part of OCD), and even a hypersensitivity to disarray, chaos, or any sort of change
Fast-talking, stuttering, stumbling over words
Not talking at all
Sitting rigid, staring into space, almost seeming “zoned out”
Understanding the way our or other’s anxiety works can help to decrease the stigma and help to calm a person faster and get them out of that state. These are just a few, but it gives an idea of the range in which attacks can come.

you can’t read a few text posts on tumblr and reblog a couple pictures of black lives matters and think you’re not racist. racism is a deeply engrained part of our culture - sometimes it’s not even conscious. you have to constantly question yourself. it’s pretty hard to unlearn 400+ years of institutional racism and in order for us to properly dismantle systems of injustice, we have to stop pretending we all aren’t part of the problem.

MENTALLY ILL WOMAN TASED TO DEATH WHILE SHACKELED, BEATEN, AND HANDCUFFED
Natasha Mckenna, a mentally ill woman who died after a stun gun was used on her at the Fairfax County jail in February, was restrained with handcuffs behind her back, leg shackles and a mask when a sheriff’s deputy tasered her four times, incident reports obtained by The Washington Post show.
Six members of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, dressed in white full-body biohazard suits and gas masks, arrived and placed a wildly struggling 130-pound McKenna into full restraints, their reports state. But when McKenna wouldn’t bend her knees so she could be placed into a wheeled restraint chair, a lieutenant delivered four 50,000-volt shocks from the Taser, enabling the other deputies to strap her into the chair.
Minutes later, she stopped breathing. Days later, she died.
The truth is, though, that police have been covering up the real details on Natasha’s death for months. And, even after all of this, police are not quite clear on why Natasha McKenna was even jailed in the first place. On the day she was arrested, she had actually called the police herself to report being assaulted and appeared to be struggling mightily with mental illness before she bounced around between hospitals and jails for days.
Nothing has happened to the officers yet.
