nobody warned me that reaching out to the NHS wellbeing service would end up being a strain on my mental health in itself!!! Why does it feel like nobody there wants to provide any information?
I book a phone consultation back in November, scheduled for late December. I know the NHS is under immense pressure and am expecting a wait anyway, so that’s not an issue.
What confuses me is the complete lack of communication leading up to the consultation. No email explaining what to prepare or what to expect—nothing. still, I tell myself, “Maybe it’s just a quick 15-minute call. They don’t need my life story.”
Then the day comes, and the guy calls me (15 minutes late, which is fantastic for my anxiety around waiting for phone calls). We end up talking for about an hour, and honestly, he’s lovely - no complaints about him or the call itself. He explains they’re running a skeleton service over Christmas, so there might be a slight delay in getting me started with CBT. Fair enough. The NHS is already stretched thin, and I’m not about to send an angry email because I know they’re doing their best.
But even if I wanted to follow up, I wouldn’t know *how*. There’s been zero communication before or after the call - no details on the next steps, how long the wait might be, or anything I need to do. It’s been 3 weeks! And because I’m hopeless at phone calls, I forgot to ask these things during the conversation. To make it worse, he’d called from a withheld number (for security reasons), so I can’t just call Taylor up :/. All I wanted was a tiny email telling me how long I’d be waiting and what to do next, nothing huge. Maybe I’m overreacting, but this lack of communication really isn’t good practice when you’re dealing with people with mental illness, I’ll tell you that for free NHS wellbeing service
