Burton Constable Hall
Hi guys!!
I'm sharing Burton Constable Hall. This is the 19th building for my English Collection.
I decorated most of the house ground floor, for reference.
History of the house: Burton Constable Hall is a large Elizabethan country house in England, with 18th- and 19th-century interiors.
Despite its apparent uniformity of style, Burton Constable has a long and complicated building history. The lower part of the north tower, built from limestone, is the oldest part of the house to survive and dates to the 12th century, when a medieval pele tower served to protect the village of Burton Constable from the time of the reign of King Stephen. In the late 15th century a new brick manor house was built at Burton Constable, eventually replacing Halsham as the family's principal seat. In the 1560s Sir John Constable embarked on the building of the Elizabethan prodigy house that stands today. This incorporated remains of the earlier manor house along with the addition of the new range containing a Great Hall, which rose the full height of the building and was top-lit by a lantern, along with a Parlour, Chambers and South Wing.
By the 18th century, the Great Hall must have seemed old fashioned, and a surviving design of c.1730 suggests that Cuthbert Constable intended to completely remodel the interior. However, it appears that remodelling was not undertaken until the 1760s when his son William Constable commissioned a number of architects for designs. These included John Carr, Timothy Lightoler and Capability Brown. The decorative plasterwork was executed by James Henderson of York. At this time, Constable also acquired the plaster figures of Demosthenes and Hercules with Cerberus, and plaster busts of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus and the Greek poet Sappho, from the sculptor John Cheere. Above the fireplace is a carving of oak boughs and garlands of laurel leaves, crowned by the Garter Star, surrounding the armorial shield of the Constable family in scagliola by Domenico Bartoli.
The dining room was substantially remodelled by William Constable in the 1760s, who commissioned designs from Robert Adam, Thomas Atkinson, and Timothy Lightoler (who won the commission). The ceiling draws on contemporary interest in the excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum, with plasterwork by Giuseppe Cortese. The overmantel plaque of Bacchus and Ariadne riding on a panther was modelled on famous antique cameos illustrated in Pierres Antiques Gravées, published 1724 by Philip, Baron von Stosch and Bernard Picart. This room was again redecorated in the 19th century.

Mac and Hugo had made their way to the seaside town of Brindleton Bay. It was the birthplace of Charles Langston II and the place where he married his wife Madeleine.
Mac felt like they had been lucky, to find yet another famous figure in their family tree whose lineage they could trace back one step further. But they were also very aware that they may be nearing the end. Unless another notable figure came up, it was going to be almost impossible for them to trace the family tree back further given how far they had already come. They couldn’t believe their luck so far that they had managed to trace back into the 1890s - and hoped that perhaps there was one more mystery left for them to uncover.
Mac and Hugo traipsed along the Brindleton dockland markets, pondering where they should start. Both agreed that a cemetery may hold some clues if they could find the name Langston.
They approached a man at a stall and asked him whereabouts the cemetery was.
‘We’re doing a family history project,’ explained Mac. ‘Looking for the name Langston. Apparently they lived here way back in the 1890s at least.’
‘Oh yeah,’ said the man. ‘The cemetery is up at the lighthouse. Langston you say? There’s an old farm called Langston Farm up the back of town, too. Maybe that’s what you’re looking for?’
Mac was ecstatic. Another stroke of luck! They headed off for the cemetery at the Lighthouse, where they found several old, crumbling headstones bearing the surname Langston.
There was a young boy aged eight - Oliver Langston, whose parents were Charles and Charlotte. And not too far from his headstone were those very people - Charles and Charlotte Langston, whose headstones noted that they were survived by their five children - Agnes, Charles, Juniper, Frank and Sybil.
This was it, Mac thought. Charles Langston II - here was his mother and father. He had siblings too. And they lived here in Brindleton Bay. The old farmhouse must have been their home, and Mac and Hugo eagerly made their way there.
Traipsing through the forest up an old dirt track, Mac didn’t know what they would find. A hopeful part of them hoped maybe there would be descendants still living there for them to meet.
But they knew realistically that it was wishful thinking. And when they came upon the old farmhouse, it was sad but unsurprising to them that it was old, decrepit and abandoned.
Mac felt a deep foreboding feeling that they had reached the end. There were no more leads to follow. They would never know what life was like here on this farm in 1890, or how its inhabitants came to be there.
‘I… don’t know what else we can do,’ they confessed to Hugo. ‘It feels like there are no more stones that can be turned over here. It’s an old abandoned farm. I thought maybe someone would still be here…’
‘Hey now,’ said Hugo softly. ‘This is ok. You have traced your family history into the 1890s. Mac, you’ve uncovered 12 generations of people who came before you - they lived such diverse lives. We got stuck so many times and we still got here. Maybe this is the end, but that’s not a bad thing. Think of everything you can share with your family when you go home.’
Mac felt sad, thinking about going home. They had so enjoyed spending this time with Hugo, having a companion to share this journey through history with, to motivate them to keep going even when they got stuck.
‘It’ll suck though to go home… and leave you,’ they confessed to Hugo.
‘I’ll miss you too,’ said Hugo, wrapping Mac in a big hug.
In the quiet moment under the sunset, in the forest next to the abandoned old building, something passed between the two of them. A mutual agreement that while this was the end of their search for their family history, this wasn’t the end for them. Their story was only just beginning.
#SOBBING!!!!#oh my god this was incredible#legit thank you pixelnrd this was such an amazing legacy#one of my favorite legacies of all time#sims 4#reblog

Building tip: Tileless door and arches
If for whatever reason (example below) you ever want to remove the floor tiles that appear when you place a door or arch on a second floor or above, it's pretty easy to do. Just place frillen's invisible tiles over the floor tiles. Note that this is not just an invisible floor, otherwise there would still be a trim around the tiles. This is a buy mode object you place on the floor.

[REQUESTED] giada - 4br 3ba modern lot size: 40x40 price: $150k built with ver 1.55
wow, this feels like it was a really long time in coming, and i am super sorry. modern is not really My Bag and makes me feel like a dumb idiot every time i attempt it because i am still pretty much just throwing shapes and textures at a wall and seeing what sticks. of course after spending like a week and a half agonizing and trying 10 iterations and finally stumbling on a build i liked, i ruined the lot’s water table irreparably, which would’ve required a rebuild. after wailing like a banshee on the moors of scotland for ~48 hours, i whipped this one out in a single day. i wish i understood myself at least 8 to 9% of the time. i built this originally on a 30x30 lot, but bumped it up to a 40x40 afterwards because i felt guilty that there wasn’t a whole lot of yard space. no exterior fountains as promised, but i did include a pool and interior fountains proving that i can at least sort of almost maybe follow directions sometimes. if you don’t like the fountains as a room divider, maybe you can try lasers instead. EPS/SPS USED: late night (basically everything) showtime (basically everything else) ambitions (furniture, washer/dryer) master suite stuff (2 interior plants) 70s 80s & 90s stuff (a plant) island paradise (terrain paint + landscaping) CC USED: counter height ribbon window by hugelunatic CC SHOWN BUT NOT INCLUDED: rugs by baufive DOWNLOAD - mediafire

The Thanksgiving Manor
Hey everyone!
After 4 months without Sims and Tumblr, I'm back with new ideas and builds.
I'm so thankful for all the lovely comments and shares for my Practical Magic house. I wanted to upload it for download, but the furnishing process was a pain in the ass, so right now this project is on pause.
The Thanksgiving Manor will be my Thanksgiving gift for the community. I will upload it on the 28th of November and until then I'll show little snippets out of it.
Hope you guys like it & Happy Simming!
