Okay, we know Percy reminds Sally of Poseidon. She says they look alike, they act alike, they are alike. But what if Percy reminds Poseidon of Sally as well? What if when Poseidon looks at him, all he can see is Sally’s best features. Percy’s mannerisms, his smile, his sense of humor, his bravery, his kindness. All of it is a constant reflection of her.

do you ever think about sally coming home one evening, and it’s been just another day of her new normal, ie living without her son for months on end, the first chunk of which they didn’t even know what had happened to him. now they have a clue where he might be, but he’s certainly, definitely still in danger. she thinks about him every single day (because how could she not?). she hasn’t seen him in so long, hasn’t heard his voice, doesn’t know how much he’s grown since she saw him last. this is the new normal.
and then. then she comes home one day (paul isn’t home yet) and she’s got a few groceries slung over one shoulder. her laptop bag over the other, mail and keys in hand. she’s feeling good about the progress she’s made on her latest book. and there’s a message on the answering machine. probably just another telemarketer, she thinks. and she hits play.
“mom. hey, i’m alive. hera put me to sleep for a while, and then she took my memory, and…anyway, i’m okay. i’m sorry. i’m on a quest—i’ll make it home. i promise. love you.”
the mail and keys fall out of her hands, and she’s falling to her knees before she’s even fully processed what’s happening, what she’s hearing. and she’s crying and her hands are shaking, but she’s listening. she’s absorbing every syllable, every breath he takes. and he’s on a quest (she knew he would be in danger. he always is) and he’s far from home, but he’s alive he’s alive he’s alive.
and she plays the message over and over and paul comes home and finds her sitting on the floor next to the side table with the answering machine. and her cheeks are coated in dry tears, but she’s smiling. because her beautiful son is alive, and for the first time in months she feels like she can breathe again.
#idk man. do you ever think about sally hearing her son’s voice for the first time in months and weep#sally jackson#percy jackson

You know what one of the (in my opinion) least talked about moments in pjo is? Percy convincing the gods not to kill the ophiotaurus.
Like ok Percy likes the sea-cow and named it bessie and stood up for it or whatever but also he convinced the gods to take this monster that they were so afraid of and take care of it instead of killing it (which would have been easier btw)
Convinced the gods who are so used to eradicating everything that scares them (Gaea having her husband killed out of fear for her children, Kronos eating his kids out of fear for his throne, Odysseus throwing an infant over a wall because he feared what it may grow into) to instead nurture it, protect it, care for it
This child who hadn’t eaten in since lunchtime the day he left for the quest (he left without eating dinner and had like one muffin before grover got the call of the wild), this child who was dirty and tired and hungry and hurt, this child whose death they were just considering, was begging them to take in a monster he had know for a few hours in total. Arguing against 12 all powerful, immortal gods to save a monster.
and the insane thing is that it worked, they took it in, they cared for it, and they protected it.

There’s a scene that I think a lot of Percy Jackson fans forget about from tlt. In the first few chapters Percy mentions having a very faint memory of Poseidon when he was a kid which Sally denies happened.
It’s implied that at one point Poseidon snuck into Percy’s room when he was an infant to see him.
I’ve been thinking about this scene and just kept asking myself, “why would Poseidon, son of Kronos, god of the seas, unable to have a demigod child because of the pact he made with his brothers, sneak into Percy’s room when he was an infant to see him when he could get caught?”
It’s because he wanted to hold his son the way his father never did to him nor his siblings.

Watching black sails and all I see is Poseidon’s sad eyes as he stares and Sally and Percy from afar. Hating himself more for every minute. Fearing Sally believes that he’s abandoned him and hates him even more.

ok I’ve had this thought in the back of my mind FOR AGES but with wottg coming out I’m finally making a post
we don’t talk enough about sally jackson being a young single mom. I had always imagined she had Percy when she was young, but the fact that she could have kids 17 years apart means she was in her early twenties. she was in her early twenties when she had an unplanned pregnancy with a guy who couldn’t stay. she was in her early twenties when she married Gabe to protect Percy. she had just dropped out of college, and once again her life was flipped over.
Percy talks a bit about how she had already lost her family, but the main focus of her suffering was her relationship with Gabe (which he got to witness). so many women have kids when they are young, are abandoned by their partners and have no family to help them, I wish there was more talk around it. there were many times where Percy would praise her for being able to overcome it, and we saw how it affected her professionally. but we never really see how lonely she was. I know it didn’t really fit into place with pjo’s storytelling to dwell on it but it sometimes it feels ignored, specially now since she’s receiving more focus again in the new trilogy and having a new baby in a healthy household.

set during the last olympian, after the battle of Manhattan. Percy and Poseidon talk before Percy leaves Olympus. Percy learns surprising details about the summer his parents spent together, which bring him a deeper understanding of his parents' past struggles.
“Can I ask you something?"
Poseidon looked at him, as if trying to read his face. "Of course."
"Do you regret it—breaking the oath?"
"No," Poseidon responded quickly. "I would never admit it to Zeus, but I do not regret breaking the oath. Breaking the oath gave me you and I… I loved your mother."
"You don’t regret the summer then?"

My canonical Riordanverse belief is that I think Zeus is jealous that Percy is Poseidon's son and not his. Let me break it down for you– Percy is named after Zeus's son Perseues and has nearly accomplished every feat a Greek hero would have done much like his other son, Hercules. Because of his quests and his feats–Percy is widely considered one of the most powerful demigod in existence–something i genuinely think Zeus resents because its Poseidon's legacy receiving the glory.
Zeus targets Percy from the beginning something he doesn't do to Nico, Hazel or even Luke. He makes Percy's life harder on purpose at every turn (burning his kite down when Percy was only 8) and even in the show, treats Percy like garbage (dismissing his concerns of fucking Kronos).
Maybe its because unlike his two children–who were raised by a woman who didn't want Zeus's kids and one of whom doesn't even like her father and his domain- Percy loves the sea and everything to do with it. Much of his dislikes and likes are ocean related (saltwater taffy, blue food, Montauk beach). Percy loving his father's domain allows Percy to have a control over his powers that by the time he is nearly 18, Percy can control any liquid not just water.
Morever Percy is comfortable as the son of Poseidon and has immense respect for his father and Poseidon actually tries to be a good dad unlike Lord "i ruined a woman's life by making her have two children who she was not capable of raising and letting a crazy Hera loose on her".
Maybe just maybe, Zeus fears the consequences of Poseidon having the most powerful demigod on his side who would take his father's side if Poseidon ever declared war on Zeus's throne.
