I’m @nukirk, the guy behind this blog & on May 31, 2020, I was unjustly attacked by the NYPD during a protest, even though I told them I’m press and was not there to protest, just covering it. It was technically an arrest, but they didn’t give me any warning before doing so and pushed me to the ground and proceed to basically knock the wind out of me.
youtube
I’m featured in the above video. I’m pretty easy to spot. I’m the first guy walking into the frame. As you will see in the video, my morale suffered a bit.
If you rather read the story, you can here: https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/akz3z4/black-and-brown-protesters-in-new-york-were-jailed-longer-and-punished-more-harshly-than-white
The cops messed me up in more ways than one as they lost my ID, purposely left my phone, bike and battery on the street to get destroyed by a fire truck and I’m trying my best to retain what’s left of my sound mind.
I haven’t been able to work to the best of my ability and I’m making less money.
So far, the fundraiser has collected a little over 25% of the goal. I am asking for just enough to get back on my proverbial and literal feet.
I live in a place where my moral is very low. The only people who I can talk to I can’t really visit due to the pandemic still going on.
I recently returned to work, but I’m two weeks behind in rent (I rent by the week, not by the month). I managed to use the funds raised thus far to paid a doctor’s bill, started therapy sessions and I put money raised on the side for a new phone. However, getting back to work had it shortcomings.
I was attacked while reporting on a local story by my own neighbors, damaging my backup phone. It still works, tho. But I decided to not do crime scene press for a while, which now lowers my ability to make money even more.
I work despite the fact that fireworks are consistently being set off, triggering a lot of bad memories.
If you feel for me, please donate and/or reblog this post.
Thank you.

People are complaining about scarlet Johnson as the major in the up coming live action of the ghost in the shell, yet some how people were not angry over the fact that literally everyone within the attack on Titan live action film is Asian when some if not most are not Asian!!?
People need to just chill not to be hypocritical about things and only get but hurt over whitewashing when Asianwashing is clearly a thing too!

A minor cop story pre-NYCC
I'm going to write about a minor, yet funny cop story that happened. And when I say "funny" I mean "wtf". It lasted 30 seconds, but how it got to that was longer.
Now, as some of you know, I dressed up as Barret Wallace from Final Fantasy 7. I looked like this...
The arm gun was created by @queentron and they live in Oakland. We joked about wanting to mail the arm gun to New York so the TSA doesn't think it's an actual weapon. They brought it with them. Funny story happened when they landed.
So, at New Jersey EWR airport, we got into an argument because I was an hour late. In my attempts to humbled myself for my shortcomings, I carried all their baggage. Literally. Two bags and one arm gun.
Because of the time (close to midnight), I came by Express Bus and since this is only the third time in my life I came to this airport, I didn't know where the pickup is. I was informed by the bus driver en route that this would be the last pickup, when the next one would be in the morning. Now, everyone at the platform of pick ups were not from there, so needless to say they don't know where to go. There were one cop working traffic. So I approached the cop, not thinking of the arm gun I am carrying by default (as pictured) because I got two bags and I didn't want to crush the gun under the weight of my arms carry TWO BAGS.
Now, when I approached the cop, he gave me a strange look. More concerned than humor and a bit of fear, but how I approached him was a man with a focus of getting out of the airport before I made a person who is already mad at me worse.
I said "good evening, can you tell me where the express bus stops to pick up-"
*pointing to arm gun, concerned tone* "what is that?"
Me: A prop. Getting back to-
Cop: why are you carrying it like that?
(note, tho it's a fake gun, it's pointed towards the ground because it would be rude to point a gun, real or imaginary, at anyone)
Me: because I am carrying two bags. Now, officer can you tell me-
Cop: put it under your arm.
Me: *gives a wtf look and avoid the statement* where is the bus to New York? I don't want to be stuck here, please.
He then proceeded to give me directions, all while looking at the gun and never taking his eyes off it. And then, I was about to say thanks, and then he told me "for everybody's safety, can you please carry the gun under your arm?"
Me: *cuts him off* thank you, but as you can see, I'm not in a position to carry a big prop underneath my...
Cop: that's an order, sir.
Me: *stunned*
J: *stunned*
Everyone looking at us: *confused at the cop*
Me: thanks for your concern. *Starts to walk away towards J*
Cop: SIR PLEASE STOP CARRYING YOUR PROP LIKE THAT.
J: HEY!
Me: J, carry one of your bags and look away, it's not worth it.
And then when J took the bag, I proceed to tuck the gun under my arm as he "suggested" and walk towards the terminal to head downstairs... with J making commentary and their anger now directed towards the cop.
While I'm happy that the anger kinda moot our previous argument, we both were still disturbed by the officer wanting to make a deal out of a prop that threaten no one.
Not the Lyft driver to Oakland airport.
Not TSA, the very people we both joked about.
No one during the entire trip.
Even if you take the kindest apporoch and think "maybe it was dark with little lighting and the cop thought it was a dangerous item... If you look at the gun, it was clearly imaginary. And WHO would approach a cop to ask for directions? This was not a joke setup and no cameras were rolling to capture this. It was just me, asking for directions to get on with my life.
This interaction with the cop frustrated me. While it didn't put a damper on the trip and it was a minor issue, you have to wonder... what cop would be that fearful of something like that?
For that, I'm glad Barret had an imaginary gun and not something close to reality.
