The Kiss of Deception Review This novel by Mary E. Pearson tells the story of Lia, princess of the kingdom of Morrighan, who flees on the day of her wedding day. She restarts her life with her best friend Pauline in a small village known as Terravin where she works as a waitress in a diner. During her time there she meets two handsome and intriguing young men, Rafe and Kaden who come to the diner quite often, forming a friendship with Lia. Little does Lia know, one of the men is the Prince of the kingdom of Dalbreck who she was supposed to marry, and the other is an assassin sent from the kingdom of Venda to kill her. Within the story, Lia finds herself unlocking perilous secrets that may unravel her world even as she feels herself beginning to fall in love. What I loved about this book was how well Pearson reveals Lia's character and personality. Lia who is fierce, strong, bold, daring, clever, kind, and caring, sticks to her beliefs and who she is as a person, not allowing anyone defy who she is and what she believes in. Her strong character has a great influence on me as well as to other girls, teaching them to be strong and be confident in themselves and what they believe in. Another thing I liked about this book was the description. The clear picture that Pearson paints from the features of the main characters in the story, to the settings that the characters are constantly transition to throughout their journey. Her writing technique in the story has really made a big influence on my own writing techniques. I can't hardly wait to continue Lia's adventure in the next book of the Remnant Chronicles, The Heart of Betrayal!
