LUCANIS DELLAMORTE in Dragon Age: The Veilguard (2024)

Damn, I shouldn't think too much. I just had this random thought that...
Lucanis spent a year in the ossuary. A year filled with loneliness, a demon in his body and probably other psychological torture. Based on what I've seen ingame, other people broke under whatever was done to them. But not Lucanis. Lucanis is strong, no doubt.
And my thought went like... How many times did Spite have to take over because Lucanis couldn't take it anymore? Couldn't take the torture because his mind would break? How many times did Spite save Lucanis?

I went to see the new War of the Rohirrim movie and I have some thoughts (no spoilers)
I was carefully optimistic before I went to see it. Partially because there seemed to be little studio control over the movie and also because Helm Hammerhand is one of my favorite Middle-Earth characters. I have somewhat mixed feelings.
The Story - This is basically a simple flowchart. Was it in the book (or rather the Return of the King appendices)? Then it's good, very well adapted and faithful to the source. Was it not in the book? Then it's most probably some of the stupidest stuff you've ever seen in a Tolkienverse.
The Visuals - Another strange split. I really like the character and set design. It's a nice mix between the classic Rohan style we all know and love and something new, a little stylish. I like it, mostly. My only gripe in this part that Wulf and Freálaf are a little bit too similiar lookswise. I like the Rohirrim armor, the Dunlending look, the sets and matte paintings look nice, but still grounded. However the animation is a bit disappointing and the storyboarding as well. There was a potential for some truly epic fights and other scenes, but I feel like the movie failed to capitalize on making some shots as impactful as they could be.
The Fanservice - There is a lot of fanservice, cameos and winks to the audience. After a time becomes grating, especially because some of them were really unneeded. I will not spoil but there are several characters that didn't need to exist, but still are present simply because of fanservice.
The Pacing - This is another of weird issues. I feel like this movie is at the same time rushing and really taking its time. I think it's because of the strange decisions surrounding the focus of the story. I know, the mumaks are cool, the snow troll is cool, but there is way too much time spent on both when imho it would be much better to cut all of those and instead focus on some of the side characters. Helm particularly suffers from this, which is unfortunate for such a legendary figure. I also wish we could spend a little bit more time on Rohan history and politics, especially since the history of Rohan kings at the time is really interesting. You have Baldor son of Brego who ventured onto the Path of the Dead never to return, you have Aldor the Old who ruled for so long he lived to see his great-great-grandson and of course the great Eorl the Young. None of this is ever explored, sadly, and neither are the Dunlendings. They are just... there.
Wulf - Wulf did not need to be so hot. Completely unnecessary. That is all.
The Performances - The voice acting is actually really really good and the script is even at its worse servicable. There are some awkwardly placed lines, but over all, I really enjoyed the performances.
Miscellaneous stuff - I am glad to see the proud tradition of the evil side having ridiculously competent middle management. The big showdown at the end was cool. I like how they made Helm be terrifying as fuck to the Dunlendings, which was lore accurate.
Over all, I would recommend it as a TV movie, not necessiraly something you should see at the cinema. 6/10 - Better than Desolation of Samug and Battle of Five Armies, but still worse than Born of Hope (2009).
This is your signal from the universe to watch Born of Hope (2009).
