Perfecting Your Personal Pitch
“Tell me about yourself,” “What are your strengths?” “What makes you unique from other applicants?” “What are you most proud of?”
Every individual who has gone through an interview has come across at least one of these questions, or has been asked something similar. In our competitive business landscape, we must ensure that we stand out, and differentiate ourselves, and our brand in a way which is memorable and impressive to employers, investors and other individuals.
When proposed this relatively simple question, one might not realize the great importance of their response. However, it is the answer to questions similar to these that might get you the job you want, or the offer you’ve been waiting for. This is why it is essential to develop an effective ‘elevator pitch,’ incorporating the positive attributes and accomplishments of yourself.
Tumblr media
                                          (”Personal Pitch,” n.d.)
The following are some steps that will guide an individual in developing an effective personal brand statement.
1. Introduce Yourself
The initial step requires an individual to give a brief explanation about oneself, but to also connect their strengths, skills and interests to the job description. You should provide the employer specific examples of past experiences and achievements to support your claims.
Tumblr media
                                       (”Introduce Yourself,” n.d.)
2. List Relevant Qualities Which Distinct You From Typical Applicants
My list would include:
Creative – I have developed and planned many creative projects and events, such as a Film Festival. I have also been responsible for coordinating outfits for photo-shoots at my previous job.
Design – I have been responsible for planogram executions at various stores such as Pandora.
Efficient Computer Skills – Can use software’s such as Photoshop to create posters and advertisements.
Strong Communication Skills – I have completed many communication and presentation courses.
Tumblr media
                                                (”Qualities,” n.d.)
3. Mention Why They Should Hire You
Always end off with why you are the most suitable candidate for this position and what you will bring to the team.
4. Remember to Modify Your Personal Brand Statement for Each Job
You should always alter your personal brand statement to make it unique for the specific job you are applying for. Employers will realize if your “elevator pitch” sounds regurgitated from previous applications.
Tumblr media
                                               (”Complete,” n.d.).
After following the steps outlined above, my personal brand statement for an employer at a Marketing Agency would sound like this.
“Hi, my name is Stephanie Chochian, I am a Creative Industries Student at Ryerson University specializing in Media Business and Professional Communication. Having both a business and creative perspective, as well as having experience in this field during my internship in the past summer working as a Social Media Coordinator, has prepared me to undertake a role at this Marketing Company. My proficiencies along with my useful experience during my previous endeavours have given me the skills necessary to assist the company to attain its long-term goals. ”

Social Media Practices to Enhance Your Company’s Brand
As the conventional ways of advertising have changed dramatically over the years, social media has provided organizations with a way to effectively target and reach their audience. Developing and maintaining a strong online presence strengthens a company’s brand, image, and intrigues customers into purchasing the products or services that the company offers . In order to effectively achieve a strong online presence for your business, one must take into consideration the following digital etiquettes and social media practices.
1. Choose Your Platform Wisely
You must be aware of the different demographics that utilize different platforms, and use this information to discover which platforms your target audience is primarily active on. Ask yourself how you would want to market your brand. Is it through visual, photo, video, or written content?
Tumblr media
                                                    (Ertell, 2013)
2. Understand the Importance of Engaging with Your Customers
Remember to always post new and engaging content, which will stimulate two-way communication streams with current and potential customers. You should always respond to feedback and complaints, to demonstrate that you value your customers and care about servicing their needs.
Tumblr media
                                                  (Ripton, 2018)
3. Exploiting Interoperability
This will help cultivate creativity and innovation, as it increases diversity and creates awareness towards your company’s brand, by linking your accounts on various platforms. By doing this, you also ensure that you are being consistent with your brands image and representation throughout all platforms.
Tumblr media
                                             (Redaction, 2015)
4. Strive to Create a Brand Community
Start and join conversations, which will create buzz about your brand and image. Once people are familiar with your company and its values a brand community will develop comprised of loyal consumers.
