I think one of the kindest things you can do for people with various mental health struggles is just... let people back into your life after they've been absent for a while.
Making friends as an adult is so fucking hard already and isolating yourself from other people is a very common symptom of depression, anxiety, burnout, ocd, trauma, grief, etc. Which means that someone will do the hard work of recovery/healing and resurface back into a world where their previous friends have written them off because they stopped showing up.
So if you know someone where you're like "yeah we could have been better friends but they fell off the map a bit" and that person suddenly reaches out, or starts showing up to events even though you kind of forgot they were still in the group chat... well they may have been Going Through It and you don't actually have to punish them for their absence you can just be glad that they're back.

The UCP is considering a law that would force people with severe drug addictions to be placed into treatment without their consent, according to documents obtained by The Globe and Mail.
The Compassionate Intervention Act would be the first involuntary treatment law in Canada to target addiction.
Some jurisdictions, including Alberta, already use mental health laws to push people into drug treatment without court orders in exceptionally severe situations.
The Globe says this legislation would give police, as well as the family or legal guardian of drug users, sweeping rights to refer adults and youth to involuntary treatment if they pose risks to themselves or others.
Full article
If this becomes the law, it will be a huge loss of human rights for people that experience addiction. This further removes freedom and bodily autonomy from a group that is already pushed to the margins of society.
Involuntary commitment is a horrible concept that is already used to imprison mentally ill people against their will, and expanding it to include people experiencing addiction makes a bad situation worse.
Make no mistake, this will disproportionately impact people of colour and lgbtq+ people.

“And then [the heroin] stopped working. I was left with all the problems I’d been fleeing in the first place, many magnitudes greater, as well as a heroin addiction.”

The last of them taken down with a cool Monster energy. They might've touched my tongue. The small, sharp, and bitter taste would be a small price to pay in exchange for an eternity of peace. The walk to the tracks would be quick. The only sounds to keep me company would be the light rainfall, the moths hitting the flourescent lights of the parking lot, my work boots on the pavement, and the wind whispering words only heard by those blessed enough to speak the language of mother earth. The rain. It was coming down so gently. It had stormed earlier, but, in the end, I was lucky enough to be last touched with only the softest of mists. I would walk over the damp grass, probably take off my shoes as to feel the ground one last time before I slept. I'd look back one final time at the store. I would look at the sleeping houses next to me. At the trees, the stars, and the moon. My eyes would begin to feel heavy, so I would sit on the tracks. The shock of the cold metal under my body would feel like a kiss. I would feel its steel embrace turn rigid, quickly, and with a growl. A deep rumbling would shake my body, my heart, my defeated mind, and I'd realize that I'm tired. Very tired. Too tired to move anymore. The tracks would shake, and the horn of the train would scream, scream, and scream some more. What it's it saying? And will I get the chance to know before

Best stuff I've had in ages. Haven't done any down/fent like this for a year or more. Usually it takes several points for me to even feel the high. But this stuff I felt it after two baby dragons. Should have bought her out and stalked up on this shit.
