I disagree. I take Latin, and it’s honestly been incredible. Knowing Latin makes it that much easier to learn the other Romance languages, helps you learn grammar for all other languages (I didn’t know what a participle was until I took Latin), and is just one of those things that crops up as helpful at weird times.
I totally agree that Welsh and other Celtic languages should be taught in the UK. But I don’t agree with the implication that Latin is a useless and elitist.
It’s not like I learn Latin to brag about it, or ‘cause it makes me feel smart. I’m certainly not bourgeois or anything. Middle income person living in the Midwest here, not exactly one of the elite. I learn Latin because it’s a truly useful language.
Latin should absolutely be taught in more public schools. Not to get rid of the ‘elitist’ stigma around it, but because it’s a good language to know.
Tumblr media
What the Tories do really well is let a tiny minority of 'normal' people into their elitist world. It refinforces class barriers and adds more division amongst the working class. If you're one of the lucky kids at the minority of 40 comps, you'll be able to learn a subject the bourgeois respect and rate, and your parents will be able to say yesss my child knows Latin yess we also shop at marks and spencer now you know oh the quality is so much better etc

Just saw a very serious tumblr post refer to adults age 25+ as “older adults.” I am begging you kids to go outside and interact with diverse groups of people. Please. It’s for your own good.

Well, I’m not the boss of you. Just - stay safe, alright?
Me again! Sorry if I’m being annoying. I’ve mentioned this before, but if you want something to eat that’s low in calories/fat/anything, lettuce is good. Drinking a Sprite helps with nausea and will get you some sugars. Calories aren’t the thing to avoid - instead, you want to avoid fatty foods. This is because fats are the hardest for you to digest and get rid of. Carbs are burnt quickly, so those are good to eat - some bread might fill you up without being too unhealthy. And drink water!!!
Nope
Calories are the thing to avoid that's why I have 800 a day

Well, I just did some research, hope ya don’t mind.
If you wanna loose weight, you don’t want to eat: eggs, sugary drinks, white bread (my ask was wrong sorry lmao), candy bars, fruit juices, high-calorie coffee drinks, and highly processed things.
Some foods that help burn belly fat are: red fruits (apples!!), lean meat (turkey), leafy greens (like I keep saying, lettuce), and yogurt (in moderation!!!).
Calories aren’t the stuff making you “fat”, by the way. A calorie is just a way of measuring the energy in food. Calories only contribute to weight when you take in more than you use. That means if you balance your calories with your exercise, you can actually consume more calories without having a negative effect.
Cutting your calories to 1200 is enough to loose weight, incidentally. This is a diet plan for obese people, and is actually not recommended for those who aren’t overweight.
800 calories a day isn’t enough. You may loose weight, but your body needs some sort of nutrition. When you don’t have enough fat to burn, your body moves on to burning muscles, tissues, and eventually organs. Especially if you aren’t getting a lot of variation in the foods you’re eating, 800 calories won’t give you the energy you need to complete day-to-day activities.
Again, I’m sorry if I’m being a bother! I do care about you, though, and I hope I can help.

making this a whole post ‘cause my rant about monster energy won’t fit in the comments lmao
So! Monster Energy (and other energy drinks, but especially Monster) are notoriously unhealthy. They’ve got a shit ton of caffeine, sugar, and other crap. Especially if you’re, y’know, replacing meals with them.
I’d recommend drinking other things instead. Especially if you’re worried about calories, since one 16oz can of this stuff has way more than the maximum recommended amount of sugar for an adult.
Anyways, here’s some quotes. Sources at the bottom of this post.
Monster Energy drinks are mostly devoid of nutritional value. For example, according to the US Department of Agriculture, a 16 fluid ounce can of Monster Energy provides about 233 calories, 54.2 grams of sugar and 164 milligrams of caffeine. It also provides varying amounts of riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12.
According to Monster Energy Drink's own website, a full 16 ounce can of Monster Energy Drink provides 160 milligrams of caffeine. According to the Food and Drug Administration, most people can consume about 400 milligrams of caffeine a day without dangerous or negative side effects. However, the FDA points out this can vary greatly between people.
Overconsuming caffeine can lead to:
Increased heart rate. Elevated blood pressure. Jitters, tremors and anxiety. Irritability. Headaches. Nausea or digestive issues. Dehydration.
Nolan adds that while generally speaking, 400 milligrams of caffeine can be tolerated by most healthy adults, some people need to consume far less, including: Children and young adults. Pregnant or breastfeeding people. People with high blood pressure or other cardiovascular conditions. People with diabetes.
If you're replacing meals with these drinks, that can also lead to trouble. At the other end of the spectrum, if you're consuming energy drinks alongside a diet that's heavy in processed foods, that can also be problematic. All of these factors can compound the effects of these drinks and potentially set you up for health concerns.
Monster Energy drinks contains over 54 grams of sugar in a 16 ounce container. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), an adult man or woman needs no more and preferably less than 150 calories from sugar a day. Monster Energy Drinks contain approximately 216 calories from sugar. As a result, if you drink just one 16 ounce can of Monster Energy, you are consuming more than the maximum recommended amount of sugar per day.
Regularly consuming too much sugar can lead to heart disease, obesity and the potential to develop Type 2 diabetes. According to Harvard Health, the typical American diet gets 10 to 25 percent of their daily caloric intake from added sugars. You can reduce your risks through decreasing the amount of added sugar you intake daily. In terms of Monster Energy Drinks, this may mean only drinking them once in a while.

Ok. So, C E flat and G are all musical notes.
In music, there are two keys. If you go to a piano and starting at middle C (google it if you don’t know which key that is) press the next eight white keys going up one at a time in order, that’s a major scale. A minor scale is if you go to the D (the white key to the right of the C) and press the next eight white keys one at a time in order. Or, go here for a nice video on it.
So, E flat is a minor key. It’s a black one. Hence the ‘we don’t serve minors here’ and E leaving.
C and G is easier to explain. G is the fifth key up from C. If you play C and G together, they sound nice, ‘cause they’re a perfect fifth.
C, E flat and G walk into a bar.
They ask the bartender for a drink. The bartender says, “Sorry we don’t serve minors here”. E flat walks out while C and G have a fifth between the two of them.
