Blackwater is an idyllic little town found in Chicago. What seems like an average small town on the surface, look closer and you can see that there's more to the town; a dark past that has plagued them for fourteen years, the answers to which have never been found. And something deep within it's rotten core that's beginning to stir again.

My apologies for the main being quiet for a few days there but the Six are still looking for the last four members and we only need four apps before we set an acceptance date. I sincerely hope we’ll be able to do that soon, so if you’ve been going back and forth on whether or not you should submit that app, take this as a sign to do so!

We’re only looking for four apps before we set an acceptance date. I’m so eager to get them in soon and in the meantime, I’ve been tinkering away at some graphics for our teaser blog! Now couldn’t be a more perfect time to send an app in!

Heyheyhey! What is your current app count? I am very interested in applying, but just want to check! Thanks!
We currently have no apps! For future reference, the app count can be found here. I’m really looking forward to your app!

hi there! is there a reason riley and eugene are both empaths? is there something more to be revealed that we don't yet know or have i missed something? jc! thanks!!
It’s about the bonding, the yearning, the connection.
I’ll start off by saying what is probably the most obvious: everyone has something about them that ties into what happened to them when they were children. However, that is something that they all have to figure out (and then figure out why their little thing makes them so special compared to the others that are out there too) and more will be revealed through the plot as it chugs on, naturally.
Firstly, Riley and Eugene come from very different backgrounds. Riley has her foster family and how she found home in a big, loud mess whereas Eugene has the relatively more quiet and lowkey family of just his mother and grandmother. So, the question posed is, how do these two very different people (in family, personality, friends etc) react when presented with the very same skill? As has been stated in their bios, they’ve both been reacting to it differently since they were children and it’s all up to the player how they keep reacting to it, if they find the power in it, or if it’s better for them to pretend it was never there to begin with.
Secondly, Blackwater is just a weird little town that has deep roots in things that will soon be revealed through the plot that will surely answer this question and the others -- such as “why is x this thing?”
Moreover, I wanted a connective thread for the different pairs. As you can see, there’s different types of connections. First, we have the romantic and platonic connections, the so called “good” connections and secondly, we have the less than good ones, the ones full of “hate” and fighting. They’re all very very human things to have, so I thought it’d be fun to introduce another element into relationships. Riley and Eugene have the same powers, so they’ve been naturally drawn together because of that. Same goes for Oliver and Cami who don’t share powers but do share the commonality of death. While Layla doesn’t have powers the way the others do, one of her drives is finding the answer, which is very much what someone who has clairvoyance, like Matthew, can provide her. It’s another reason for them to connection, a plot point that I would highly encourage the players to go all in for. I have plans for them that link back to the history of both the characters and Blackwater -- which are important for future plot drops.
Lastly, I just thought it would be fun to have aspects like that where you get to decide how it works -- meaning, that if you pick up one, you can reach out to the other player and you two can decide how their powers work, what they are, and how they can connect to each other through that. I’m someone who absolutely adores plotting and ooc interaction in that way, so while my choices for these things were to benefit the plot and characters first, that was also another reason why things were chosen that way.
This was a very long answer to a question that could’ve been answered with a simple “it’s plot reasons” but a lot of what has been written for Blackwater has a reason for it.

Blackwater’s main has been given a little mini revamp! You’re welcome to take a look around and familiarise yourself with our new layout! We’ve also created a teaser blog ( @blackwaterteaser ) that a large portion of our promoting will now take place on! Just a small reminder that we’re only looking for four apps before we set an opening date. That’s only four before we can begin the countdown to opening this rp and exploring all of the weird and wonderful things that come with a small town that has a dark side...

different anon here but about promoing, have you thought of doing a teaser promo blog? instead of the normal kind? having a taser promo blog usually helps get the rp more noticeability, i think
I’m really not sure what a teaser promo blog would entail? There’s nothing to reveal -- unless people would be interested in hearing more lore/worldbuilding related to the town and everything that’s going on because I really could talk about Blackwater for days -- and I was never a big fan of the whole “once this hits 50 notes we’ll reveal ___” way of promoting a blog. However, I will look into what other teaser blogs are doing and take notes! I’m more than happy to find new and inventive ways to get noticeability! Thank you!

i would say that having planned romatic connections out is always daunting but other than that i think you should promote more (you dont need to publish this)
I completely understand that romantic connections being pre-planned can be daunting. However, I would encourage everyone to view it as simply where the character is starting and not where they will end up. The romantic connections are something I would hope would be plotted heavily. I don’t want anyone to feel constricted by it -- the characters within this rp have been through a lot and that’s had an effect on how they view the people around them. It’s up to the players, through plotting and chemistry, to really see how the relationships will develop when put to the test.
As the person who wrote out the bios and connections, I would sincerely love to see everything explored -- that includes different romantic options, if that’s where it goes! So, please, don’t view the romantic connection as something to hold you back!
As for promoting, you’re completely right. I haven’t been doing enough when it comes to promoting and I take full responsibility for that. There’s been things happening within my personal life that have stopped me from being able to fill the queue for the promo blog recently but it is something that I will get done asap. Thank you for your feedback, it’s greatly appreciated!

I’d love to get some apps in! We only need four before we set an acceptance date and with four open characters, there’s a good selection for you to choose from! Each has their own unique view of Blackwater and the events surrounding them and their past, so it’d be awesome to see how they’re developed as the plot trudges on!

The town of Blackwater is full of secrets, even for a small town were everyone knows everyone’s business, there is still so much that has gone unanswered. There are secrets you hold to, about yourself, about other’s ; there might even be secrets about yourself that you have yet to find out, secrets that could change how you see your hometown, and yourself, forever...

As the admin of this rp, I’ve been thinking a lot about something: is there anything about it you think should be changed and/or removed that would make you more likely to enjoy it? Should the app be less intensive? Should the written characters be changed in a way that would make it better for you to connect with them? I’m all for adapting Blackwater in an attempt to make it more accessible!

I’d love to be able to set an acceptance date soon! To do that, we’re looking for only four apps! Only four apps and then we can really get the ball rolling, as they say!

Have you always wondered what it would be like to be a part of a small town mystery? To wonder why the woods seem so inviting yet terrifying? To never feel like you are on your own, no matter how alone you might be? To hear the creepy stories told by locals, all about the many people who have disappeared, despite it being disproportionate for the small population? Blackwater can offer you all of this and more -- are you prepared to face the demons of not only the dark little town, but your past too?

We only need four apps before we set an acceptance date! I’m very eager to get this plot going, so why don’t you come take a look around? See what characters are available and consider just where you could take them.

It has been decided that once we get four apps, then we will be setting an acceptance date! Personally, I’d love to see all open characters taken when we get started, so we can really get into the throes of the adventure from the get go! So, to that I ask, are you willing to move into the strange but interesting town of Blackwater?

when does the plot take place? over the summer?
Yup! Our current time period will be the summer months, starting in June and progressing from there. Time will move on as the plot does too but let’s not get ahead of ourselves!

Note
how do you feel about all lowercase writing? i'm used to lowercase bc it's been the norm in many rps i've joined, but i can switch to sentence case if you'd prefer!
I say go with whatever format you’re more comfortable and used to writing with.

for the romantic connections, is everything end game or are we allowed to further explore other possible connections?
I would say to think of them as start games. It’d be naive to think that things could develop the way they were written and it’s important to keep in mind that couples could break up, pairings could realise they’re better off as friends, and people who once saw each other as friends could now see each other in a different light. Plus, it’s possible for the players to plot out things independent from the connections. So, long story short, it will be where the characters start romantically but it’s entirely possible for things to develop differently as the plot goes on.
