J. Crew Kenton Boat Shoes in Suede – $69.50 ($198) Note: These things are getting a super steep discount through today, 7/14. But J. Crew has been slashing prices lately. So, there’s always another promo train comin’. But 64% off is quite good. Especially for these. Read on for Adam’s impressions.
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, these indigo suede Kenton boat mocs just walked into mine. I already own a pair of blue suede camp mocs from Maine Mountain Moccasin (formerly known as NEOC) and I *just* ordered two pairs of Rancourt Beefroll Travelers through their wholelsale pre-order/crowdfunding campaign. So, why then do I “need” another pair of slip-on Summertime shoes? Well, I recently changed careers and the new office dress code is on the more casual side of business casual. Think softer button-downs or polo shirts, casual chinos, and loafers instead of pressed dress shirts, wool slacks, and dress Oxfords. Also, it’s #2020 so who the hell knows what the rest of this year holds for us?! Let’s assume that we should probably be working from home (or the lake “office”) to maximize health and safety. So, here’s looking at you, Kenton..

As summer is just around the corner, it will soon be time to exchange our boots and shoes for something more suitable for the season. Fashionable men around the globe will undoubtedly opt for a classic loafer thanks to its timeless style – in keeping with this; my latest blog post review will be of the Mulo Loafers – read on to find out more!
Mulo was launched in 2012 by Tobias and Ingrid Fox, who’s names have been attached to other illustrious brands including Bumble & Bumble and Box. Tobias had a passion for upgrading and elevating the standard canvas espadrille, allowing them to outlast the summer season and be wearable throughout the whole year. The London based company designs all of their footwear in-house, which are then realised into the final product at a family run business in Porta, Portugal.
Notably in 2015 Mulo was selected by Walpole as a brand of tomorrow, sitting comfortably alongside brands such as Burberry, Harrods and Jimmy Choo.

Supporters of true minimalist menswear will proclaim that prints are superfluous. Any man should be able to get by on solids, preferably in neutral shades. But, seriously, where’s the fun in that? And, considering the pace at which menswear has progressed over the past 15 years, you’re missing out. Yes, you’re following classic style to a T, but it’s also a tad ascetic. To use a food metaphor, it’s all meat and potatoes. You get nourished and feel full, but a slice of pineapple, a cutup bell pepper, and even the occasional piece of cake adds some variety and breaks up the day-to-day starchy, protein-heavy monotony. So, your navy chinos and your blue shirts get you through and deliver a foundation that lasts far longer than the latest trend. But, from here into similar grey, white, and tan garments, you’ve developed a comfortable but too-cloistered spectrum. You have to venture out. A bright solid shade is the first step. Then, it’s onto prints.

SLOWEAR
The clue is in the name: born as the antithesis to fast disposable fashion, iconic Venetian brand Slowear do not bow to the pressure of ‘drop’ culture, instead committing to timeless pieces manufactured to a high standard that will last for years. Manufactured in Venice and best known for their iconic ‘Incotex’ trousers, Slowear also offer high end smart casual separates from Montedero and a luxury Zanone knitwear line. Behind the scenes, Slowear also invest in clean industry and encourage the use of renewable sources in their HQ and manufacturing processes, with not a piece of single use plastic in sight.

YATAY
Handmade in Italy, Milanese minimalists YATAY offer Peta Approved, 100% vegan sneakers. Specialising in clean lines and a slick Scandi approach to design, think ‘Common Projects with a conscience.’ They differ to other vegan options on the market in that their leathers are made mostly of cereals, which is 100% biodegradable. The small amount of recycled ocean plastic used in the soles can be sent back to Yatay to be put back into the production process, meaning that 0% of the shoes go to landfill. As if that wasn’t lovely enough, Yatay also pledge to plant one tree for every pair of shoes purchased. You get a unique code upon purchase and can monitor the trees growth and how much co2 you’ve offset.

There’s something extremely satisfying when looking at the Harber London organisers full of stuff, don’t you think? It’s like that feeling you get right after you clean and organise your house. The comfort in knowing your life is in order rather than a hectic mess. This family run maker of handcrafted luxury leather goods is based right here in London. The team has a true passion for leather and they obsessively keep their designs minimal and simple, while guaranteeing that each item is truly remarkable and functional.
Made by craftsmen in Spain, Harber London create honest, high quality and useful products to help you carry better, and they don’t stop until they get it right. It was within the kitchen of a small flat in 2012 when the co-founders were venting about how incredibly difficult and disappointing shopping for quality laptop sleeves had become. They quickly started to research the industry and drew up some early ideas to solve the problem. Neither had any background knowledge of how to design leather products, source materials or even run a business, but their vision and solution to a personal problem was clear. It wasn’t long before they had a couple of high-quality products, and a brand identity that they were proud of.

SAFE & DRY – REVOLUTIONARY WATERPROOF POCKET
Randy Cow’s collection of men's swim shorts are made with 90% recycled plastic (12 bottles are repurposed into every pair) and 10% Spandex for stretch and comfort. They are all complimented with a revolutionary waterproof pocket to keep your valuables safe and dry, down to 30 metres. Each pair of shorts has been lovingly made by a crack team of scientists who have put their heads together to make magic happen. The result is the comfiest, most stylish and frankly awesome pair of men's swim shorts.

A reader recently recommended to me the made-to-measure knitwear at 40 Colori, a shop on Lamb’s Conduit Street in London. He has trouble getting knitwear to fit, being rather tall, and 40 Colori did a good job of making a piece to order for him, with rather longer body and sleeves. That was interesting, and welcome, but the thing that convinced me they were worth covering, after a little research, was the direct connection to Italian manufacturing. The co-founder of 40 Colori, Gabriele, comes from a family that runs a factory near to Lake Como. It was started by his grandmother, and originally just made silk ties, before adding knitted ties and scarves. His father runs the factory today, and his grandmother still makes a lot of the bowties herself.

Overalls
The recent Menswear Spring/Summer 2016 collections referenced a nod to mechanic-like overalls, showcasing them in dark blacks, cool toned denim and dusky greens. Keep denim overalls low-key with a white tee and a simple trainer or maximise the overall aesthetic of a black pair by keeping all other clothing darker, a la Alexander Wang.

Baudoin & Lange recently launched a new, perhaps more conventional range to their shoes, called the Ginkgo. Allan asked me if I'd like to pick a colour or two of suede to make up in this style, and offer as part of the collection - as I did with the classic Sagans a few years ago. I really enjoyed the process last time, adding the Bark Grey to the more B&L classic colours. It was interesting seeking out something that would be useful, yet unexpected. So I happily agreed with the Ginkgo, and spent a few weeks back in the Spring going back and forth with suedes and deerskins, before sampling a handful. The two shown here are the ones I went for: similar but subtly different shades of suede, which we're calling Pecan (below, top) and Walnut (below that).

The MacBook sleeve is instantly eye-catching with its contrasting tan leather sleeve, and charcoal grey wool felt body, something that will surely stand out during your work commute and office meetings. The flap is crafted using premium full-grain vegetable-tanned leather, which has the added benefit of gaining a unique and individual look during the natural ageing process as you use the sleeve regularly. The flap itself has an upside-down triangular shape, with a metal fastener to click the flap shut. The main body of the sleeve is created using a 100% wool felt. Not only is it soft to the touch, but it also has other numerous hidden benefits – anti-static, moisture resistant, self-extinguishing and repels soiling naturally. It is also eco-friendly and renewable.

When it comes to leather accessories, men often get the short straw compared to their female counterparts when it comes to choice – so the male population goes all out in the key areas left open to them, namely wallets and phone cases. In my latest blog post review, I will be taking a look at one of each from Vaultskins latest collection.
Vaultskin is a relatively young brand, based in London with an enthusiastic, young and experienced team – planning to take the world by storm with their range of leather products and accessories. One of the companies key selling points is that each of their wallets contains RFID blocking technology to prevent your bank and credit cards, becoming the victim of unauthorised hacking using scanning devices. Vaultskin offers wallets in various shapes and sizes and phone cases to fit numerous different iPhone models, along with RFID protection cards available separately.
