Given the Netflix adaptation, I've seen people say stuff like "Since when did it take place in America?" Well, it did, at least in the setting of the first game, so yeah I wanted that to be clear for everyone regarding the DMC universe.

Devil May Cry takes places in our world
I've seen people questioning where DMC is supposed to take place. Since the first Devil May Cry game there have been references that it takes place in our world, but that might not be too well known because it's only mentioned in the manuals of the first and second game and a couple of side materials.
The manual specifies that DMC1 took place in America but in the "Sacred Heart" sound-book that was released one year after the game, it's possible that it was retconned because it says that Dante was living in a "corner of a metropolis", and that doesn't mean America, it could be any large city in another place.
Presently, Redgrave in DMC5 is considered to be located in London because the development team wanted to build a city based on it.
Unlike Resident Evil for example. DMC never mentioned real world locations in the games and like I mentioned, those were only in the manuals of the first 2 games, DMC1 novel and DMC3 manga.

Finished the first episode...I keep a notepad open to write stuff, so even though the episodes are 30 minutes long, it will take more to watch them because I pause them to write my notes.
I just wanna say to those who might be like me: if you might be sensitive to flashing lights, pause the episode towards the last few minutes....
I can' even watch the opening, it's horrible for me ;;

In regard to the Netflix adaptation
Netflix DMC is coming later today. I might not be able to watch it for a day or two because I don't have Netflix but when I will get to watch, I'll use "Read More" to avoid spoilers and mention the specific episodes in the tags.
I hope everyone can do the same!
Before the animation becomes available I wanted to say a few things. I have expressed my opinions regarding Netflix DMC. Some of you don't agree and that's ok! I've only said my personal opinions like most of you.
I know that I'm more pessimistic, however that's because I'm not the kind of person that will consume anything without question in regard to something I love.
If I find something unappealing about a piece of media related to a series I love I can express my feelings if I want.
If we are to have conversations, whether it's about agreeing or disagreeing, I hope we can civil about it.
I haven't told anyone that they shouldn't enjoy the animation ad neither should anyone else.
That's all I wanted to say!

How clothes represent Vergil and Dante's personalities
I want to express my personal opinion about why I prefer how the Visions of V manga presented little Vergil and Dante in comparison to how they look in Netflix Devil May Cry. I only used screenshots from the music video by the way!
If you haven't read the Visions of V manga (until chapter 25 at least), I don't recommended reading the post!
Personally, I believe that Visions of V subverted expectations.
If you have played Devil may Cry 5 and saw Vergil and Dante's childhood home, you probably thought that that with a mansion like that, they must be rich, so you'd expect that as children, they had fancy clothes, right?
However, in Visions of V, they were presented with simple outfits despite the fact that I believe the mangaka could have done fancier clothes but maybe it was deliberate.
Also, I'm not saying the clothes they wear in the Netflix adaptation are bad, they look cute, but it's just what most people would expect for them to wear.
So, they look like, I would say, “young masters”, like boys from the Victorian age in my opinion. It is common to associate rich kids with the kind of clothes they are wearing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although simple, I think the style of their clothes in Visions of V manga reflect Vergil and Dante’s personalities.
Tumblr media
Based on this colored artwork by Tomio Ogata, Vergil's shirt is black. Perhaps it wasn't just for the fact that the medium is a manga, so only white, black and gray are used.
Tumblr media
Vergil wears a black shirt because he’s the serious the serious brother. He’s a bit more gloomy (sorry if it’s not a good word to describe him ;;) than Dante, so I guess he's associated with dark colors and Dante with bright ones.
His shirt is long sleeved and wears long boots. I think that might represent…modesty? Being reserved? I think I explain alright…
Dante is the opposite. He wears a white-shirt with shorter sleeves (they might be rolled up) and his shirt isn't tucked in his pants. He looks sloppy, I would say.
He's the opposite of Vergil, bright colors are associated with Dante and he's not as modest. I mean, he walked around without a shirt as a teenager, haha.
Maybe the reason they had simple clothes is because the little devils like to play rough. It's better if they are not wearing expensive clothes. That's what I believe!
So yeah, it's details like that which show contrast between them.
What they are wearing in the Netfilx show show, like I said, it's not bad, each are wearing different clothes with their represantive colors, but that is used too much I would say, because even the amulets have different colors, so it emphasizes too much on the whole "Vergil can only have blue colored things and Dante red".
I also dislike how the amulets don't look impressive, unlike the original ones. They just had to make them like the reboot game, huh? How can they be part of the same jewel that was the Perfect Amulet that belonged to Sparda? I assume that's not the case in this adaptation...

Disclaimer: I haven't watched the show! I This post was written before it came out and i might edit this post after I watch it.
I'm sorry but, I do not like Vergil's design either...Him and Dante look much older than they're supposed to be...
Some of you like his design and I'm not trying to be mean, but there are people who seem to defend everything about the show, however what I've been told doesn't make sense.
I want to know if my interpretation of what people have been saying is wrong.
They are insisting that 'Vergil" only looks like this because it's not the real one.
"That's a Plasma, it's not him!"
Tumblr media
Doesn't it sound like they're implying that this design isn't good?
I thought they defended everything about the show, right? To me it sounds like they're saying, "There's no way Vergil looks like that!" it's the Plasma's fault because it didn't copy Vergil's appearance properly.
And like they're saying that like it's a fact when the show hasn't come out yet.
What are people expecting if apparently even those people don't seem to like this design? A different hairstyle than his usual one? A different face? Lol.
I mean last time I checked, him and Dante were supposed to be twins...
So yeah, a lot of people told me to shut up about the design, but the same people are admitting they don't like it either.

Yeah, so, like I said I haven't watched the anime yet, but I saw an interview on Youtube with Johnny, Shankar and Lady's VA, Scout Taylor-Compton and she said "Oh yeah, Lady is just like me. She has a potty-mouth!"
Uhm...I'm worried. Like from the start I expected that just like other Neflix "anime", there would be f-bombs and cussing to show how "cool" a character is and I was worried that Dante will sound like the reboot one. But, Lady?
Oh man...I'm so looking forward to it...T_T

I have a couple of posts that I will make but don't worry, they won't have spoilers because I'm going to use images from the previews that were shown by Netflix. When I'll get to watch the episodes, I will edit the posts I make based on the context from the show.

Thank you so much to those who showed support on my last post. It was scary...Like, I know that fan-translation is a risk. That kind of thing is supposed to stay among fandoms, not promoted by by someone who is involved with an IP.

I had a panic attack because of what happened on Twitter...I logged in to check some notifications and I saw that Shankar retweeted the post I made about the Devil May Cry 3 manga translation. That scared me! I had to delete the post because that could get me in trouble. And what the fuck? Like it's bad enough that he reposted artwork without permission a few times and now he promoted piracy regarding the IP he has been involved with?
How unprofessional can he be? I mean, he could also get in trouble for that because he promoted piracy to his followers, but most likely he won't...It would be a serious matter for someone like me. I hope nothing bad will happen...
I'm glad he never promoted anything when he came across my DMC only Twitter. He was just trying to suck up to a DMC fan.
Tumblr media
And he rewarded the fans by doing shit like reposting art without permission and what he did to me.

Yeah so I'm staying off Twitter. Oh boy, I made some posts there that I will make here before the tag will be filled with too many about Netflix DMC.
I hate that platform. Here you can write long posts, edit them if you need...On Twitter, some people won't even bother to check if you perhaps written additional stuff, either by checking your profile or check the quote RTs...That's what happened to one of the posts I made there.

Hello everyone! I hope you will enjoy the translation of the DMC3 manga! I'm glad that I was able to finish it just a few days before the Netflix adaptation because I believed that if people want to use it in a discussion, there will be arguments made in bad faith and I tried to be faithful to the original text.
While I mean no disrespect to the translators that made the fan-translation that has been around, there were a few mistakes but still, not as bad as the Tokyopop localization.
To give maybe the most popular examples, they made Dante say juvenile stuff in situations where he was not joking and no, it wasn't a matter of dialogue that wouldn't make sense to the English speakers.
Sorry, but Dante didn't say things like "I want a smaller dick" or that he made out with a mop.
As if I haven't seen that people regard him as stupid...
So yeah, I hope you will enjoy the translation I made, whether you are old fans or newcomers!

The list has been updated with the Devil May Cry 3 prequel manga!
Visions of V, DMC 3 manga translations and others.
Please do not copy-paste the lines that I translated from Japanese, such as the ones that I made for comparisons or my translation notes on your social media or take screenshots to use in videos. This applies to all of the translations that I made for DMC on my social media.
If you want to talk about differences in translation on your blog or videos and you might not understand my explanations, please ask me, send me messages here or Twitter @ cloudi_skye. It’s  better if you ask instead of assuming things, especially if you don’t know Japanese.
I have worked on VoV from where the first translation team left off, that being chapter 19 and from there on a few chapters had several translators, that’s why I did my versions starting from chapter 20. DOWNLOAD THE CHAPTERS HERE IF YOU CAN’T USE MANGADEX. You can read VoV on other manga reading sites until chapter 19, while my versions are the ones from MangaDex which are updated. Other sites have uploaded the chapters as they were the first time I posted them that might have had a few errors.  DEVIL MAY CRY 3 MANGA
CODE 1 “DANTE” CODE 2 “VERGIL” VISIONS OF V Volume 1 interview with Hideaki Itsuno and Tomio Ogata. Chapter 12.2 translation note. This chapter had a mistranslation that I tried to explain. I didn’t translate this chapter and the line was never fixed, causing a misunderstanding about Vergil.

Devil May Cry 3 manga translation
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Devil May Cry I've made my own translation with the purpose of clearing up misunderstanding that were caused by the official localization that took many liberties and also the fan-translation that has been around for a long time.
You can read both volumes only on Mangadex! (username: blackened-angel)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a project that took me a few months and unfortunately I wasn't able to finish it sooner due to circumstances.
I tried to stay faithful to the original text, within reason of course.
I also thought that it would be great to have a higher quality of the images because the scans of the fan-translation that has been around had some issues. Some text was difficult to read because some of the speech bubbles were too small, especially those that were near the spine of the book where the pages were bent.
So yeah, I hope you will enjoy my translation and hopefully it clears up some misunderstandings, especially if you read the Tokyopop localization...
Let me know your opinions!
