I was today years old. That is disgusting.

No Child Left Behind is one of the worst things to ever be incentivized in schools. It was signed into law when I was 14. Reading Rainbow was my show as a kid. LeVar Burton played a big part in why I became an avid reader to date. The joy of it. It's an adventure around the globe and through different time periods without stepping on a plane or time machine.

Children parrot behavior. In grade school, I always wanted to read the same amount of books as my teachers (50 books) and managed to double that each year. Before No Child Left Behind, book fairs and Scholastic catalogs were a serious matter like your grandma's Fingerhut catalogs. Libraries were (and still are) a wonderland.

Reading comprehension and proficiency in schools has been declining for decades. A crisis. The joy of books isn't pushed anymore and I'm always saddened by it. It's one of the reasons why I post my book reviews and recommendations on here, as well as posts from others to encourage reading and (novel) writing. Kids will parrot your behavior while the education system sadly fails to return as that example.

The sooner everyone accepts that all trans people are always going to be Schrödingers gender, the better off we will all be. Transmascs and men are seen as women when it’s convenient and men when it serves others. Transfems are seen as women when it’s convenient and men when it serves others. Non-binary people are seen as trans when it’s convenient and “cis adjacent” when it serves others. Intersex trans people are seen as a strange deviant third sex when convenient and as quirky brainwashed cis people when it serves others. There is no box they won’t put us into to achieve their goals. The goal is to be right, regardless of how contradictory the path is that led them there. It doesn’t matter what you really are. They will see us as whatever they want that reinforces whatever narrative they’re trying to spin about us at the time. There is no such thing as transphobia, misgendering, degendering, ungendering that only one kind of trans person suffers from. We’re all Schrödingers transgender.

I say this as someone who works at a nonprofit: the attitude “someone who has nothing will be grateful for anything” is harmful and dehumanizing when it’s used to justify donating something ripped, stained, or expired to someone less fortunate.

Homeless people deserve clothing with good structural integrity. Victims of house fires deserve linens that are free of stains. No one should have to eat expired food. It’s disrespectful to give people scraps when they’re already hurting.

Please, out of respect for your fellow humans, check the dates on your food donations before you drop them off.
