Don't miss the last Friday Art Party! After the closing of Still People: Intimate Moments, Blackball will no longer be hosting monthly art parties. Come celebrate the past two years in the gallery with us!
The Closing Reception will be attended by the artist with drinks, hors d’oeuvres and music. Wine will be provided by Playwright and Vin des Temps Wine.
Laura Juncker’s paintings combine portraiture and film stills, capturing the unreality of daily life in Los Angeles and the modern age. She looks through film databases for subtle images and matches them to wood grain panels. Rather than drawing from blockbuster movies and imagery, she deliberately chooses stills from unfamiliar films and draws from in-between moments. Says Juncker, “That moment where a character wakes up in bed… before anything happens – that is the scene I want to immortalize.” She harmonizes the image with the natural elements of wood grain, and then allows the painting to reveal itself.
