“The power of Satan will blast you into hell," the boy bellowed... "You keep saying that!' [Lestat] said. "And it keeps not happening."

Seems like the only one who understands, and cares about, Lestat's character is Sam. It's just disheartening. Rolin said he wanted to join this project to adapt TVL, but he doesn't seem to understand Lestat at all nor do I think he cares that he's getting things monumentally wrong.
If your actor is constantly confronting you over things you're getting wrong then shouldn't you pay attention to that and do something differently? During one of those 2024 SDCC interviews, Assad made a joke about making Rolin fix the scripts and Rolin said he heeds the actor's opinions and will change things in the script upon their feedback...
Not sure I agree with Rolin there when Sam purposefully improvised that line during the Magnus monologue (without asking the writers), he said he did it the way he did so they were less likely to cut it out because it was in the middle of the scene. Isn't that a huge red flag on Rolin and the writers? Why does Rolin continue to ignore this?
Honestly, while it's sad to say, I think this will be the make it or break it season for me. If they don't do TVL, Lestat, and his relationships with Gabrielle, Armand, and Nicki justice then I don't think I can continue. As much as I love this show and adore this cast, idk if I can do it if they make more monumental mistakes.
Hello! I'm a different anon. I just saw your Daniel Hart post. When you were talking about the red flags, I was aware of all those except the agency and Levan's comments? If you're okay with explaining those, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you!
Hey!
Sam spoke about agency in Autumn's video (the outtake video), at around 9 minutes:
youtube
It's heavy on hints and spoilers though, fair warning.
He speaks about how, if the show actually made one of them the "villain" (wrt the trial and surrounding events), it would take away the agency... which is, if you know the books... not how it went. To put it that way. Lestat didn't have "agency" in the books, he was tortured and used for the trial.
(Same goes for the "metaphorical tower push"... I sure hope they just... cannot talk about that, because that would take away so much?! And for what?!)
The other thing I talked and referenced the sources of here, hope it's okay if I link it because there's more to it:
That, too, plays into it all.
So yeah, there were a few red flags, and they are... piling up.
But, as said before - it is what it is now. they made choices, and those do and will continue to carry repercussions.
#here i am sad on a Monday afternoon now thinking about what could've been with such an incredible cast and crew#maybe this is harsh to say but i don't think Rolin ever really cared about making a faithful adaptation like he said#i think Rolin just wants critical acclaim and accolades because the show has started to become a darling amomg critics#i actually do like Rolin too i think he's very talented this is just so sad all around#iwtv#lestat de lioncourt#sam reid#rolin jones

Just watched the recent Daniel Hart interview and I can't lie, I'm rather disheartened. Saying that "Come to Me Again" was an insight into Lestat is confusing because Dreamstat is Louis, he's an insight into Louis not Lestat. Lestat wasn't even there.
But, I'm most disheartened hearing Daniel say that Rolin was grilling him over the story behind "Long Face" and the reasoning behind each lyric only because Sam would ask what the story/reasoning behind it is. Shouldn't the showrunner want to know these things for himself since he's the showrunner?? He only asked Daniel because Sam, an actor, would want to understand it?? Shouldn't the showrunner want to understand it too???
I'm genuinely confused because Rolin has said that he signed up to adapt the books for AMC, because he wanted to adapt TVL. The reason Rolin signed up for all this was to adapt TVL, so why is it that the only person seemingly looking out for this character is Sam? An actor who is not the showrunner and has barely any power (if any) in the writer's room.
Idk. I'm disappointed and disheartened and apprehensive, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised after everything the writers have done and things that have been said.
I'm still incredibly excited for S3, but yes, I am very nervous. At least I feel comforted in knowing that Sam will be amazing and he will do everything he can to do right by this character regardless of what the writers try to do.
#I think this will be the make it or break season for me which is sad to say#i do still love this show and i ADORE these actors they are literally perfect which makes me so sad#but they've done so wrong by Lestat and Armand esp Lestat#it just makes no logical sense to me because Lestat is literally the MAIN CHARACTER of the overall book series#he's the MC so why is it that no one seems to care about this character except Sam???#like why even bother adapting TVL Rolin? if you don't care then why are you doing this?#and then there's Hannah who fundamentally misunderstands Lestat and clearly dislikes his character from her interviews#why join this project Hannah? you hate this character so much so you're purposefully fucking it up??#i just don't get it and I'm so frustrated#thank God for Sam at least#lestat de lioncourt

It's wild to me, because Lestat even says:
"When you sentence them for their crimes, you sentence me too."
If he wanted to be there and wanted this trial to happen, why would he have said they should sentence him too?? People are just being purposefully obtuse because they hate him. It's tiring.
Adding to that last post, I never understood how people couldn't see that Lestat didn't want to be at that trial. I thought it was clear just from the shot of him in the dressing room. Then there were so many clues during the trial that Lestat was not in control, both in Sam's performance, and his interactions with the other characters. We also see his look of horror when Claudia dies, and we learn that he is the one that he is the one who saved Louis. We also have the flashback to the rehearsal where we see how angry he is about this trial. "You have no idea of Claudia's strength!" What more do people need?
Yeah, I know.
The thing is that certain subset will never see the show as anything other than Lestat The Big Bad™, and that’s just how it is unfortunately thanks to the skewed portrayal from S1.
You could have every single character break the fourth wall and turn to the camera to literally spell out what is happening and that it’s not on Lestat, and there would still be those idiots screeching “lEsTaT mAniPulAtEd tHEm iNtO sAyInG tHaT!”
#it's in the text it's in the subtext it's in the book it's been said by the actors... but people still say he wanted the trial to happen#it's very frustrating tbh#iwtv#lestat de lioncourt

People can like or dislike whoever they want, but I've noticed a growing subset of show only fans - that don't know much or anything about the books - that want the show to be a clear-cut good vs evil story. They want this to be like Blade or Underworld or Twilight where the "good" vampires (or vampire hunters) go after the "bad" vampires and there are consequences. I'm sorry to break it to those fans, but this is Anne Rice. This is peak gothic horror with only morally gray characters.
I think these fans are going to be very shocked going forward. Shocked when we get to see a more nuanced and fuller picture of Lestat and Armand, when Loustat becomes endgame, etc.
Also, saying Lestat was worse to Claudia than Armand is wild. Armand was behind the trial and her torture and death. Not sure if we'll find out about this later like we do in the books, but Armand literally chops off Claudia's head and sews it onto an adult woman's body. But, yeah, Lestat was worse to her... okay 💀
is it really that serious
#i love Armand btw but to say Lestat was worse to her overall when Armand literally tortured and killed her is an insane take#life is so much better when you like or love all these characters#I'm so tired of the morality discussions#iwtv#lestat de lioncourt#Claudia#claudia iwtv#Armand#discourse

For IWTV S3, if they incorporate the music videos Lestat has filmed in the books, I hereby have the one (1) and only valid idea who should be cast as music video!Armand:
The actor or the character, I don't care, because it would be the funniest casting gag in the world!
