My 9-year-old is on book two of the Tristan Strong series. In the past, he hasn't preferred to read but does so because we encourage it. He initiated his own Tristan Strong Zoom Book Club this week with some friends! The teacher in me is literally in my happy place! DIVERSE BOOKS ARE A GIFT TO BE SHARED WITH EVERYONE! ♥️😉

Makes me wonder... could this be true in other areas? Academic education, biblical teaching, mentoring, etc... Are outcomes more favorable for individuals of color when vision-casting, leadership, and authority is culturally/socially/ethnically reflected and relevant? Is this then a part of the reason we have gaps and disparities in our schools, churches, and so forth as we want to but do not know how to transform current leadership into spaces that have the capacity to welcome and retain the many professionals of color qualified and culturally competent to teach, preach, and lead? Ideally, I believe that there is plenty of room at the table for everyone. However, on a microscopic level... let's say the table is more of a park bench... somebody, preferably one less qualified or culturally competent, has to give their seat to another, right? For current leaders who are already imagining and reimagining with me, does empowering others as a leader mean to share, give up, and/or redistribute power, making less of ourselves and more of something greater than us?
Just my abstract thoughts aloud, lacking solutions that are simple or even concrete.
