I paid about $70 for an online Egyptian Arabic course and all I can do is laugh/tut/shake my head every time I learn how Egyptians say things. How can a jewellery shop be called a gawahergy???

Do not let your tongue mention someone’s faults,
You are also full of faults; and people have tongues too.

Hi! I have two questions. 1) Sorry if I write it wrong but what does "wish al-djahim hada" mean (it was in one book I was reading recently)? And how would you say "What the hell am I in" in Arabic? Thanks a lot for your help!
Hey! So sorry but I’m really not familiar with that dialect :// it means “what’s this djahim” I’m pretty sure, but I’ve never heard of that word before.
I’m not sure about the second sentence as well! I’m not aware of any Arabic equivalent to wth.
All the best, maybe try a more knowledgeable langblr 😬

If you are certain that you are upon the right, then do not compromise it to please the people. If they are not ashamed of their wrong, then why should you be ashamed of what is right?! Always remember that in the Qur’an “most people” were only followed with:
“Do not know” “Do not fear” “Do not understand” “Do not believe”

Arabic word of the day
تحمي
Tah-mee
Meaning: to protect
Language style: not sure about this one but I picked it up from an Egyptian protest song. It may be colloquial or both classical and colloquial >shrug<
Example sentence (or, the chant I got it from):
بعت دم شهيد بكام؟
/how much did you sell the martyrs’ blood for?
لاجل ما تحمي في النظام
/for the sake of what the system protects
اللي انت منه كمان
