randomly getting serious about the “almost entirely a joke” au but i wanna say. one thing that’s important to me about microceleb au is the characters are awful people doing awful things, and they never learn. there’s a line in bojack horseman where kelsey explains her theory that the age celebrities become famous is the age they stagnate. they will never mature beyond the age they became famous, because they don't have to. i watched bojack for the first time some time after the mcau was conceived, but this idea really stuck with me because it so perfectly encapsulates the vision for mcau. kyle is making a living doing a podcast where he argues with the same guy he’s been arguing with since childhood. cartman is doing the same, and he’s engaged to someone extremely subservient who will never, ever challenge him on any of his obvious flaws. stan wrote his best songs when he was a teenager, and he’ll be chasing that high for the rest of his career. kenny has built a platform on controversy and living the high life, and since it's what his viewers want to see, he will never have to mature and settle down. microceleb au, to me, is a story that gets more and more tragic the more you think about it
