The Game That Is Life.

Side Story.

[boredom seems to be pretty motivating for me, and I couldn't get this story out of my head. It's a little sillier than the tone of the series, but I honestly love it haha. Hope you enjoy it too! And as always remember to drink some water and get some rest! And I hope you have a great rest of your day!!!]

It's a wonderful day at NRC, and Grim is a horrible dire beast. And it's the weekend!

What does that mean for his day? Well since he's feeling generous today, he supposes he can tell you! Obviously you'll have to give him tuna later~

His day started pretty normally, waking up at ten because the ghosts decided it was boring for him to sleep through Saturday. And after an obligatory annoyed fireball at them, he heads to the kitchen for some tuna.

He's been living pretty nicely recently! Since he has some of the closest ties to the player, a few of those chumps will give him tuna to try and get on the players good side! Meaning he has enough tuna to last a lifetime~ (A week at most)

At around eleven he finally leaves ramshackle, deciding it'd be boring to spend all day in there when Yuu wasn't even in the dorm right now. Speaking of, where is Yuu? They weren't in the room when he woke up. Geez, he bets they're getting food without him. When he finds them, he'll have to remind them why he's the boss and they're the henchhuman!

He should go find them, he bets they're already missing his awesome presence! First stop, the botanical garden! They sometimes like hiding out in there since it's quiet, Grim doesn't really get it, but as long as his henchhuman is happy, he supposes it's alright.

Walking into the botanical garden, he's immediately hit with the scent of freshly cut fruit. Was someone eating the fruit?! Without him!? He rushes to the scent, only to be met with Deuce and Epel standing there, anxiety clear on their faces. And a bunch of fruit getting smushed on the ground.

Deuce: "no... what am I supposed to tell Trey? He'll be so disappointed!"

Epel: "don't just stand there ya fool! Start cleaning this up! I swear if Rook catches me trying to get some of Trey's pastries..."

Epel shudders as Deuce still looks worried, but they both start cleaning it up. And Grim decides that even he wouldn't wanna eat that fruit anymore. So he just heads off to check the rest of the botanical garden. uncharacteristically chosing not to heckle them about it, since he understands the pain of not being able to eat something you were looking forward to.

Yuu wasn't in the botanical garden, so his next instinct is Sam's store. His henchhuman goes in there to get snacks a lot, and sometimes helps out there at Sam's request. So they might be hanging around there. Or eating the snacks without him!

Making his way there, he passes by a few students wearing funny clothes. Absolutely not the sorta thing you should wear everyday! Seriously, whenever the player "pulls" a card for one of these chumps, they start wearing the outfit associated with it way more, all proud with their chest puffed out. It's seriously hilarious!

It's a shame he doesn't have time for more than a passing comment on it, since he has to get to the shop quickly. What if they're eating all the snacks he wants!? (Aka all of them.) If they are, he's so gonna make them give him their dessert at lunch next time!

Sadly Yuu doesn't seem to be there either, just Ruggie doing a part time gig for some extra cash. He's working away and Grim doesn't wanna bother him. Mostly cause last time he did, Ruggie blackmailed him into buying him lunch! Seriously, he could've used that money for more tuna!

But just as he's about to leave the shop, he feels a hand on his shoulder. Turning around he sees the proprietor of the shop, Sam himself! He has his signature smile on his face as he casually pulls Grim back into the shop.

Sam: "well my little furry imp, my friends in the shadows tell me your looking for something~

Grim: "not some"thing" someone! I'm lookin' for my henchhuman!"

Sam: "well I may have some information you'd like then!"

Grim: "wait, do ya know where they are?!"

Sam: "all things for a price little imp~"

Grim: "...I didn't bring any money..."

Sam: "well that's not a problem, I wouldn't mind an ...IOU?

Grim: "why's that sound so shady?!

Ruggie: "hey Grim! I'll tell you where I saw them earlier if you'll slip in a line about me to the player later!"

Grim: "huh? Oh... Um. Fine! Deal!"

Ruggie: "shyehehe~ I saw them in classes earlier. The players screen was there, so I guess they were using up their 'LP' or whatever it was."

Grim: "oh right! Thanks Ruggie! I'll make sure to put in a good word about you with the player!"

Sam sighs at the lost customer, as Ruggie looks pleased with himself. But Grim is just eager to follow this lead, rushing through campus as fast as he can. He wants this annoying game of hide and seek to end ASAP!

On his way through main street, he notices the stickers on the statues of the seven. Some of the students are in a competition about who's dorm can get the most stickers from the player, and this is apparently the best way they can think to show it off. Some of them just keep binders of the stickers, or put them in their room. But most just go here. The teachers hate it, but the stickers can't come off easily. He wishes ramshackle dorm had a statue, then he'd show them who the favorite dorm is!

Gah, stop getting distracted! He's gotta get to that classroom! He's lucky it's always in the same classroom, otherwise this'd be waaaay harder! Plus there shouldn't be many people in the building since it's the weekend, so only the players lessons will be happening!

When he gets to the classroom, he sees the students filing out. But no sign of Yuu. Dang it! Did he miss them? They sometimes leave before the lessons are done, if the player left them on auto or whatever. But where would they have gone!?

Crewel: "these lessons are so repetitive... I just want to go visit my dogs and- Grim? Why are you here? You're not part of these lessons."

Grim: "I was trying to find my henchhuman! I've been looking for them all over campus, but they ain't anywhere!"

Crewel: "aren't."

Grim: "huh?"

Crewel: "aren't anywhere, not ain't. What an untrained pup... But if you're looking for them, they left with Trappola earlier. He mentioned heading to heartslabyul, so you should head there if you wish to find them."

Grim: "mrahh... My henchhuman better pay me back for all this walking... They should've told me where they were headed! Hmph. Fine, I'm headin' there then. Thanks professor!"

Despite Crewels clear distaste for Grim's lack of manners, he still just sighs and shakes his head. Not caring enough at the moment, he's just eager to enjoy his "off day" while he can. Maybe he can quickly visit his dogs before that pesky LP resets...

Grim meanwhile is heading to heartslabyul, getting more annoyed with the step. This was such a frustrating wild goose chase! He'll never forgive them for this!!! At least not until he steps into heartslabyul and immediately it's all forgotten, the immaculate scent of pastries hitting him the first moment he enters the dorm building.

And sitting there on the couch, looking tired and eating a cookie, none other than his henchhuman! He knew it! He knew they were eating snacks without him!

Grim: "Hey henchhuman! I've been looking for ya all over campus, and here you were eating pastries! Hmph, why didn't you say where you were going before you left?!"

Yuu: "hey Grim, sorry. It was the screen again. Then Ace stopped me and invited me to heartslabyul before I could head back to ramshackle. Trey was gonna make a fruit tart, but there's no fruit right now. So we're just having some chocolate chip cookies, want one?"

Now Grim about to start complaining more, before he used some of the most restraint he's ever used once he realizes something. They look calm, maybe even happy. They were chatting with Ace, and Deuce who still has some fruit stains on his clothes. And they look peaceful. It's been awhile since they did, so he supposes he'll be a forgiving boss This time! Witness the benevolence of the great Grim!

Grim: "...fine, but next time don't forget to invite me right away!"

Ace: "aw, and here I was hoping to have leftover pastries haha. Guess that isn't gonna happen with Grim around~"

Grim: "shut it Ace! I just can't bear to see any food left without a home, that's all!"

Despite the taunts, Grim still goes to sit down next to Yuu, wedging himself between them and Ace as he eats a cookie. And it is heavenly! All in all, this was definitely worth that chase.

After awhile, Grim feels content and exhausted. So he just lays over Yuu's lap and falls asleep. Henchhumans make the best pillows! Especially during lovely moments like this.

Okay he told you about his day now, so where's the tuna!? Pay up! You better not be stingy on him!

Beyond The Screen.

Diasomnia Part.

[woo, last one! Just finished Silver and Sebek today, and I'm so tired. Also somehow actually making all these posts is taking an hour??? But hey, it was fun even if it was a little stressful trying to keep the characterization right. I'll probably take a week or so break, but this was amazing to write! Hope you like this story! And remember to drink some water and get some rest! I hope you have a great rest of your day!!!]

One of the last things you would've expected after downloading a game like twisted wonderland, is for the characters to leave the dang game and show up irl! But things rarely go as you expect, and this is something it's nice to be wrong about.

It was a pretty regular day when it happened, just sitting down and playing twst. Only for an impromptu single pull on the banner, turning into SSR particles and a fancy coffin. Of course you're getting excited. But instead of showing your new card, you have the character fall right out of your screen onto the floor in front of you. Oh goodness gracious...

---------------Malleus Draconia----------------

Malleus easily caught himself with magic, standing serenely as he looks down at your form. This is the player? Well, they certainly seem... Intriguing. He smiles as he leans down, taking your hand to help you stand up.

"So you're the human behind the screen, you've always been a bold one. Were your words true? Believe me I heard every one, so do they still hold true in this world, or are you now afraid having seen me face to face? I hope that's not the case."

He places a finger under your chin, lifting your face so your eyes are locked onto his. He still has a smile on his face as he laughs softly, before eventually letting his hand fall. Then he turns around to look around the room, it's an interesting style he supposes. Is this the style you prefer? He'll have to make a note of that, considering he arrived uninvited, when he gets a gift for you later as an apology. Before turning back around to look you over, taking you in in your entirety. Never having had the chance before this through the screen.

Really he's more than intrigued by this point, the words you said and actions you've done are more than enough. And yet you're unafraid, you may or may not be nervous, but not because he's a Draconia. This feeling... He hasn't felt it since meeting the prefect, only to later learn it was you who controled them to say that. Meaning, it must be your feelings as well, yes? ...although he came here uninvited, he hopes you'll allow him to stay nonetheless.

-a few months later-

Your world is almost perfect. Here he is free to be himself, and people aren't instantly terrified of his presence. And this world has you in it, what a light you've become for him. Yes he does sometimes keep you from leaving to your job/school/anything else, but he gets worried. Your world is nearly perfect, just not quite. There's still danger in it, especially for a human like yourself. It's a horrifying thought for Malleus, so he prefers it when you're safe and sound at home (preferably in his arms)

But despite his minor grievances with this world (like the appalling shortage of gargoyles.) he still wishes to stay here with you as long as he can. He knows he cannot hide from his responsibilities as the heir apparent of briar valley forever, but he doesn't want to risk bringing you there where you face the dangers of being associated with him. From humans and fae alike. This should be obvious, and yet you still ask when he plans to go home. Really if you were anyone else, he wouldn't hesitate to lash out at this point! It's infuriating!

"Ah, there you are. I wondered where you had gone. I... This again? Player, we've been over this. I do not wish to leave you. Don't give me that face, it's true. What can I do to convince you? You must give me something, I cannot read your mind. How do I convince you how much I'd miss you if you were out of my life?"

Malleus sighs before walking over to you, hold your face in his hands. He would miss you as much as the moon would miss the sun. So please, stay in his sight a little longer.

-----------------Lilia Vanrouge-----------------

Lilia popped out of the screen with a "boo!" Causing you to jump out of your seat, which makes him laugh. He has a mischievous grin on his face as floats to the floor, tilting his head and winking adorably

"There's the reaction I like to see, it's good to meet you player! Khehehe, I suppose I don't need to introduce myself, do I? But I will anyway! I'm the always adorable Lilia! But you may call me Lils. You will, won't you player? If you don't, you'll break an old man's heart! You will? Yay~"

As he smiles, he goes around the room. Looking over every detail. It's certainly nice, but it could stand to be more fun! He'll have to make sure he gets you plenty of gifts to fill up all blank space. He wonders if they have pennants in your world... Well it doesn't matter, he's certain you'll love any gifts he gives you! He's one of your favs after all, isn't he? It makes sense, he does have a boyish charm! Although sometimes he fears he's too cute for his own good...

Really now, you have your own charm as well! Lilia just knows he can get used to this! You'll let him stay of course, he can already tell you're a kind hearted person who wouldn't turn an old man out into the terrible hail and lightning! (It was sunny outside when he showed up, but dramatic affect.) And of course no good deed goes unrewarded, he shall make you a "Lilia special!" (No poison not not not guaranteed.) There's no need to thank him! Just your lovely smile is thanks enough! (Run)

-a few months later-

Against all odds, you miraculously survived the 'cooking' incidents. You've gained a newfound respect for silver, and probably a poison tolerance. But yeah, Lilia is completely banned from the kitchen, all kitchens. Do NOT let him cook. In other news however, life has become much more colorful and vibrant with Lilia in it! As has your home. He's made sure of this. Taking you on outings, getting too many trinkets to commemorate said outings. Pranks. So many pranks. Never a boring day.

And Lilia is living for this! Do you know how many people he's spooked during late hours of the night? Nonzero number. This is some of the most fun he's had in years! Really player, it was quite selfish to keep just a entertaining world all to yourself for so long~ and even now you seem to want him back out of it, always bringing up when he plans on returning to twisted wonderland. The answer to that is probably never, his boys are fine on their own, he trusts them! And Lilia would never run away from an adventure like this!

"Ah player, wonderful to see you again! Hm? Oh I'm just decorating the ceiling~ People should hang more pictures on their ceilings! Is that really why you came to talk to me, not because of my adorable charm? ...it's that again? Well I've told you a hundred times by now, I don't plan on leaving for a good while yet. Khehehe, do you really want me gone so badly~?"

It would take a little more than that to make Lilia leave, he's having too much fun with this! And of course he wouldn't want to just leave you, what kind of person would that make him? A fool, that's what~

---------------Silver (Vanrouge)----------------

Silver would've caught himself, if not for the fact he was asleep. So now he's sleeping majestically on the floor. Only slowly waking up when you lean down to check on him, his eyes fluttering open. Then they go wide when he sees you, unable to believe what he's seeing. He reaches up to take your hand.

"Hmmm...! Player, is that you...? Ah, I must be dreaming again, I've had similar dreams before. Yet, your hand feels so real. Are you, truly the player? ...so this isn't a dream. It's lovely to meet you player. I've long awaited this day, I hope you'll welcome me."

He smiles softly, looking at you in a way that makes your heart melt completely. How is he so prince-like!? (Oh, nevermind.) But still, he JUST woke up! It has to be genetics... Meanwhile, Silver stands up and glances around the room. Yet his eyes return to yours, unable to look away from you for very long. He places his hand over his chest as he does, and goodness who gave him permission to be like this!? Lilia how did you raise this boy?!

Silver is overjoyed his dream is a reality, he's long imagined this day and how exactly it would happen. He had hoped to be awake immediately, but at least he's awake now. It's a shame he doesn't have his sword with him, otherwise he'd swear by it to stay by their side. He knows his father liked them, and their words through the screen prove they truly care about him. Such a kind person truly deserves his loyalty. He hopes he can prove it during his time here.

-a few months later-

It's been very reassuring to have Silver around, he's like a constant bodyguard/knight. And the charm is maddening. He once got so sweetly dramatic about a paper cut, even pulling out a little speech about how any of your injuries are important to him, since he is your knight now. And besides that, your house has never been cleaner! Except for the occasional feather. The Disney princess magic is insane.

And Silver has been taking this new task very seriously. As soon as he got a new sword in your world, he had sworn his loyalty to you. It was dramatic yet not too showy, which is a great way to describe most of Silvers actions. He'll admit he does miss his father, and Malleus and Sebek. But that doesn't mean he wants to leave you. He is your knight now, which it why it baffles him so that you seemingly want him to return to twisted wonderland. Do you feel bad he left? He doesn't want to see you like that, or hear you asking when he plans to leave.

"When do I plan on going home? Well, I view this as my home now if you'll allow it. As your knight, I want to be by your side eternally. Will you grant me that chance?"

He looks you in the eyes, his form is ridged and yet his eyes are full of emotion. Let him be your knight, that's all he wishes.

-----------------Sebek Zigvolt------------------

Sebek falls to the floor with a shout, landing heavily on the ground. You get the feeling he would have yelled at the ground for hurting his pride, if not for the fact he froze in place as soon as he stood up and noticed you.

"...PLAYER!? IS THAT YOU!? the spell worked... AHEM! I mean of course it did! I had full confidence in it! No one should expect anything less of a retainer of the great Malleus! Hmph! You should be proud human, I've decided to pay you a visit! I see you're speechless! Wait. ...WHY ARE YOU COVERING YOUR EARS!?"

Sebek looks insulted and indignant at you covering your ears, he's not THAT loud! What a rude human! Seriously, he was in the middle of talking and everything... You're lucky he's feeling generous today human, he'll forgive you this once! But next time don't you dare cover your ears! His words are important! ...then again Lilia Did mention he might hurt their ears if he kept talking like that. Hmph, he supposes he can talk Slightly quieter next time. You should be grateful human!

Please don't get him wrong, he's been waiting to meet you for awhile. He'll admit he despised you at first, but you grew on him (like a parasite) and he hates it. What he won't admit is how often he thinks about you, or uses you as motivation. "I just have to keep training for them!" And the like. Though it was painfully obvious for everyone else, especially with how red his face got when he saw your screen. It was a little sad, and as Lilia put it "utterly adorable! Ah the bashfulness of youth!" Before leaving as he laughed, Sebek left to protest in vain. So to say he hopes you'll let him stay, is a understatement.

-a few months later-

You know scary dog privileges? You have those now. When Sebek follows you around as a sort of bodyguard, believe me you aren't gonna have to worry about a thing. Except for the sound, which is a LOT. Oh and scaring literally everyone away, except for the few folks who think he's a cosplayer. Those interactions never end well. By this point, you try to keep him away from the public as much as possible. Doesn't usually work, but it helps.

He has been trying though!! Kinda. He won't admit he's trying to be better around people for you, but it's pretty noticeable. He didn't even yell once when someone made a joke about how much hair product he must be using. So much self restraint! Obviously you don't have to praise him for his efforts (please do.) but even with all his efforts, you still bring up him going home! Obviously he's working on it, and bringing you with him! He must get back to Malleus quickly, but he doesn't want to leave you behind. So just wait a bit more, this isn't easy you know!

"What do you need human? Again?! WE'VE BEEN OVER THIS, how many times do I need to remind you? Hmph, I am almost done, don't rush me! I don't see YOU trying to open a portal to another world! ...why does it feel like you just want me gone... Hm? NOTHING! I SAID NOTHING!"

It'll probably happen eventually, maybe. But for now, maybe give the precious croc a little more love. Don't want him feeling unwanted, do you?

Beyond The Screen.

Ignihyde Part.

[heya, author here! These are some of my favorite bois haha, especially Ortho! Though I fear I didn't write them too good haha. But I tried my best, and I even method wrote by doing this one at two am after a gaming sesh lolol. But even though Idia probably wouldn't, please remember to drink some water and get some rest! And have a great rest of your day!]

------------------Idia Shroud-------------------

Now Idia wishes he caught himself, or maybe you caught him, or something else otome worthy. Not falling to the floor, and accidentally pulling you down with him when he tried to grab something frantically during his fall. Yeah lady luck hates him in more than just his gacha pulls... Whyyyyy...

"P-player!? Aghhh no whyyyy, where's the reset button!? That had to have been a nat one... Undo undo undo. Please get off of me, this is is so embarrassing... I wanna ctrl alt del everything rn. This is so cringe even for me..."

It takes a good ten minutes for him to let his hoodie strings go, and his hair is a bright pink. Eventually you both are just sitting next to each other, the awkward silence so painful. Idia wishes he could shrivel up and disappear. He keeps glancing at you from the corner of his eyes, and you're not sure if he wants you to talk and break the awkwardness of it all, or leave so he can he alone in his wallowing. So obviously you do neither, and just sit there. Awkwardly.

Idia is screaming mentally, and he would be screaming out loud except his voice has failed him. Why does life hate him? He got his chance at meeting the player, and already ruined it! They must hate him by now, this is so embarrassing, just like the rest of his life... Can he just do a complete restart of the whole world? This game file is already locked on a bad end! ...there's no way to fix this, maybe he can just go back to twst? But he already doesn't wanna leave now that he's seen you in person, like a cheesy shojo manga! Maybe he can Try and fix this...

-a few months later-

Life's pretty chill actually? Sure Idias space is cluttered, and he still gets nervous around you sometimes. But it's gotten way better! You guys can have full conversations by now! (About anime, but it's a start.) He is living for this world btw. A whole new world like an isekai, and it's not a high fantasy so it has anime! Hundreds of completely new anime! Though he has complained about not being able to finish his manga series from back home.

He still feels nervous around you, but in a different way than before. His chest clenches, and his breath was taken away when he saw you in a new outfit. You're like his favorite character getting a fancy skin for an event, and it's f2p! The only problem with these arrangements is you acting like a broken NPC, and constantly asking when he's going back to twisted wonderland. Why would he do that when he almost found a way to bring Ortho and his manga collection here?! It's below noob level thinking.

"H-home...? Obv I'm not working on that rn. I'm living an isekai! Srsly it's always been a pet peev of mine when the main character wants to go home after getting isekai'd. Like geez, living the dream and you just wanna leave? No way no how, I'm staying here. Dang player, here I thought I was one of your favs~"

Yeah he's so anxious you'll kick him out, but he doesn't Think you will??? He knows if a character from one of his games showed up irl, he'd let them stay. Especially if that character had a high affection stat for them!

-----------------Ortho Shroud------------------

Ortho just manages to turn on his hover mechanics before hitting the ground, floating a few feet off the ground as he scans the room. As soon as he identifies you, he smiles brightly, waving.

"Hihi! You're the player, right? You match the profile I have for them through the screen! It's nice to meet you! \(o⁠^⁠▽⁠^⁠o)/ my brother has wanted to meet you for a long time, and so have I! Do you mind if I stay here with you while I'm in your world?"

You can swear there's sparkles emmenating off of him, this boy is so sweet! Obviously you'll let him stay since he asked to nicely! Of course you would've let him stay either way tbh. But once you say he can, he gets super excited, already running simulations of what you'll do together. Like exploring, or showing off the pop culture you like so he can show it to Idia later! Really just an all around good time.

He's thought of you like a big sibling for awhile! You're so nice to him (and Idia has a crush on you) so you're already part of the family in his mind! He just has to figure out how to get Idia here so it can be perfect! And hopefully some sort of communication system between their parents too. But first Idia. For the time being though, it's time to explore your world, and learn more about you!

-a few months later-

Things have been going perfect! He's close to getting Idia here, and he's been having a blast learning all about your world. And you! Your hobbies, and activities you all could do together. Plus he's found a bunch of multiplayer games to give Idia when he comes, so you and him can have one on one play sessions! Obviously Ortho has been having them with you this whole time haha. Your favorite game? Hes learned every fact and strategy he can. It's super fun playing with you!

There's just one thing his simulations can't do however, and that's keep you from asking about him going home. He gets that you're worried about him being away from Idia for so long, but it's really frustrating! He'll just need to convince you to stop asking about it. But what can he say? Most of his simulations aren't working. So he eventually decides to just tell you his plan outright, even though he'd hoped it could be a surprise.

"...based on my calculations, there's a 87.34 percent chance you're going to ask about me going home again, right? That's what I thought. I already told you! I'm not going home, but you don't need to worry about me or Idia! I've already figured out a way to bring him here too, so we can all be together. So please stop asking >:("

Now you've done it, you made him upset. Really now, you're lucky he likes you enough to not use the laser. (He was really close to using the laser)

[as the author, I must apologize for Rooks part in advance. He scares me, and even though I love him, I think that carried through into the story lolol. But besides that, I'm a little more satisfied with these than the others haha. But as I always wanna say, remember to drink some water and get some. And I hope you have a great rest of your day!!!]

-----------------Vil Schoenheit-----------------

Vil managed to catch himself before falling face flat on the floor (because of course he did lol), although he looks annoyed he even had to catch himself. Really, couldn't the spell have just set him standing up in the first place? It nearly ruined his first impressions with the player! Well no matter, he needs to keep his composure.

"Gyah! Goodness, a fall?! That spell needs work... Hmph, forget that happened. It's nice to meet you player, I've been anticipating this for awhile. Ah, I can tell by the look on your face, you've wanted to meet me as well, haven't you? It's only natural of course. Hm... looking closely, I'm glad I brought my skincare products with me, let me give you a proper makeover."

And before you've even had time to adjust to a fictional character being in the same room as you, he's already clicked open his bag and is preparing the skincare products. You must understand, he simply can't stand for a gem to go unpolished like this. He merely wishes to draw out the potential laying dormant. And his skincare products are absolutely top of the line. so please just sit still. Questions are fine, but you're going to make him mess up his application if you move.

Vil hadn't hoped to be so abrupt in their first meeting, but the second he saw you he just knew he had to make you into a shining diamond. After all if someone wished to be by his side, as your sentiments had seemed to be through the screen, they'd need to be comparable to his own beauty. Given a bit of time, he's certain he can do it. There's not a doubt in his mind that you'll let him stay here, after all who could refuse him?

-a few months later-

Well to say your skincare routine has become much more extensive would be the understatement of the century. But hey, your skin has never been smoother! Your diet has also been specifically designed by Vil for maximum nutrition, though he'll still allow you the occasional treat if you ask nicely haha. And how does he pay for this? ...social media influencer... It works, but at what cost? Lol, jk, it's not a bad job! Respect to people to do it well, and Vil most certainly does!

He's honestly been doing great! Well I mean it's Vil, he would probably thrive in most environments since he would Make them perfect. But especially here, since he's with you. You're surprisingly pleasant to be around, and he won't hesitate to admit you've grown on him (like a mushroom). Which is why he gets so annoying at your obliviousness! You still ask him when he's going home, as if he'd leave you here. It's infuriating!

"This again? I believe we've had this conversation more times than I'd care for. My answer remains the same, once as I can trust you not to quit your skincare routine as soon as you're out of my line of sight. I swear, you're going to give me stress lines one of these days... Don't bring this up again."

As if he'd leave, of course he trusts you by now. He'll have to come up with a batter excuse one of these days. But for now, let's just continue like this. Preferably without the questions of his home.

-------------------Rook Hunt-------------------

Rook catches himself by taking your hand, so smoothly just standing straight and pressing a kiss to the back of it. Like he didn't just fall out of your screen! (Why is he like this?). He places his hand on his chest as he speaks, his voice somehow more dramatic than usual.

"Ah, what a beautious gift it is to get the chance to meet our Joueur éphémère! Would that I could bask in this moment for eternity! I must ask you grant me leave to stay here with you, I am most curious as to the habits of the mysterious Un au-delà du verre~"

He hands you a rose from goodness knows where, did he bring it with him??? And his eyes have been squarely on you his whole time. The green eyes are certainly pretty, but it's extremely disconcerting how they seem to take in every inch of you, scanning for every small detail he can find. He's been waiting for this chance too long to squander it, he cannot wait to learn everything about you!

It's such a thrill for Rook to meet you face to face, all the details lost in the screen, all the habits he's never gotten the chance to see. It's all so beautiful! The thought of spending time with you in person makes his heart soar. Do you act differently with the characters than other people? Has he already seen a rare side of you? Ah, he cannot wait to find these answers~ you'll let him stay until he has, won't you? (You probably shouldn't.)

-a few months later-

(Why did you?) He's been here for months, but really it only took a few days for him to learn more about yourself than anyone would be comfortable with. Your schedule, your companions, your lifestyle. And smaller details that frankly shouldn't be possible. But this hunter just knows... And what does he do with this information? Why set up the perfect outings for you! And make your favorite foods every day! And (stalk you) make sure you're safe during the time you're not at home! Normal things!

But that doesn't mean he isn't still learning new things about you every day, like the small moments where you pause to look at something and smile (your smile is so pretty :). Those are the things he'd miss so dearly if he went back to twisted wonderland so soon! So of course it's heartbreaking when you bring it up so often. He shall simply need to make your life so vibrant, that you no longer think of such things!

"Going home? I'm afraid I have no such interests at the moment. Your world is full of wonderous things I would never get the chance to explore normally, it would be such a calamité to miss it! Speaking of, I recently found a park I wanted to take you to. Would you care to join me?"

As Le Chasseur D'Amour, he would be a fool to give up this chance to observe this world. And as Rook, he'd never give You up. (Or let you down)(Sorry)

------------------Epel Felmier------------------

Epel fell flat on his face, not able to react in time to catch himself. He stands up quickly, and he looks angry enough to punch the floor for humiliating him in front of the player! I mean he ain't gonna, but he's still upset.

"Ahhhh!!! DAGNABBIT, ow... Why'd the spell have ta be so rough...? ...huh!? Player! Ah geez, why didn't ya say anything!? Well I guess 'tain't that big a deal, since I get to be the one talkin' to ya face to face! It's nice to meet ya player! D'ya mind if I use mah regular accent? Vil ain't here, so I figured it'd be fine."

Epel smiles deviously, obviously excited at the idea of being completely out of Vil purview. No more rules!! He's free!!!!! FREE!!!!! I mean, he's still gonna be polite to you, since you're the player and everything. But no more of that dainty stuff! Sure it's a good weapon sometimes, but it's still way nicer to just be a regular guy (with a sick country accent!) so be prepared world, Epel is back!

I mean, the world is probably gonna call him cute, and you don't have the heart to tell him he looks adorable by basically every standard right now. You're starting to understand where Vil was coming from... But he looks happy like this! And that's all that matters! You can deal with the whole "fictional character irl" thing later, for now? Maybe just let him have this moment.

-a few months later-

Overall, life's going pretty good for Epel! I mean, no more Vil, no more Rook, and no more dang etiquette lessons!! He ended up getting a job at a garden store, so he's been having a fun time gardening again. Obviously he still has folks coming up and treating him like a girl, and he very nearly lost his job after talking back to a dude who catcalled him. What saved him was no one understanding his dialect enough to hear him calling the man all manner of insults.

You should've seen the proud smile on Epels face that day! Well, technically you did. Since he ended up taking you on a outing to complain about it, and brag about how he handled it. So why in tarnation do ya keep asking him when he's goin' back to twisted wonderland! Did he give you the idea he liked learning how to sit still and look pretty?! He ain't goin' back there never, and no amount of pesterin' is gonna change that!

"Consarn it, I told ya before! I don't wanna go back there and deal with Vils nitpickin' again! Ain't we close by now? Ya should get it, I don't plan on going back there! Not in a million years! And that's the end o' it!"

Epel promptly marched off, sounding peeved. But really, there's another layer to it. He also doesn't wanna leave you, so you would kick him out, would you? If you don't, he'll probably make you an apple pie as an apology for yelling? (Take the offer)

Beyond The Screen.

Scarabia Part.

[Heya, author here! Love the scarabia dudes! Kalim may be my favorite out of them, but Jamil has grown on me so much haha. I hope I didn't mischaracterize them too badly lolol, this is one of my first times writing them this extensively. But as always, remember to drink some water and get some rest! And I hope you have a great rest of your day!!!]

-----------------Kalim al-Asim-----------------

Kalim practically falls onto your lap, he looks excited to see you. He's been waiting a long time to meet the player! They've been really nice to him just like a friend, and he's never been able to say it back! As soon as he realized he was gonna see you in person, he became super happy. Obviously he wants to hug his friend!

"PLAYER!!! Ahaha I'm so glad to see you! This definitely calls for a party! Jamil? Oh, I guess Jamil couldn't come with. Maybe I can go back and bring him, since he really wanted to meet you too? Huh, I don't actually know how to go back though. Well no need to focus on that! I can throw a party just for us right now, then I can figure out how to get Jamil here too so we can all celebrate together!"

And throw a party he did! It might not have been as elaborate as his usual parties back at scarabia, but it was a heck of a time! Even despite the confusion that still is lingering from a Fictional Character showing up in your house. Who's currently setting up a game of mancala, and completely ready to teach you the rules if you don't understand. It's super fun!!

Kalim is having the time of his life, I mean he gets to hang out with the player for the foreseeable future? And they're being really nice to him? This is a dream come true! He knew they would be close if he ever got to meet them. I mean they were really nice to him even while he was just a character to them! He already knows they'll let him stay with them, and he can't wait to get to know them better!

-a few months later-

There's never a dull day with Kalim. Even when he isn't throwing a party, he's pulling you to look at some new thing he made, or a new pet he adopted. Even though he understands he can't buy you as many gifts as he'd want too, having given you his jewelry early on to pay for his stay here. He still makes you a lot of homemade gifts! Often based off the things you do together, when he insists you show him around your world.

Kalim has been having the grandest time as well! Not only has he gotten much closer to you than basically anyone else, but he doesn't have to worry about assassination attempts! Your world is so amazing! He wishes he could stay here forever! That doesn't mean he'll give up on finding his way back home, but... Maybe he put it on hold. And he has to admit he doesn't like the feeling he gets when you mention him going home.

"Huh? Home? Yeah, I've been working on it! I bet Jamil is worried sick about me. But I wanna focus on enjoying the time with you right now! Can we just do that for awhile longer? Please...? Sorry haha, I don't wanna bring the mood down!"

Kalim looks... Anxious? Just for a moment. He doesn't wanna go home if it means leaving you, but he doesn't even know how to say that. He just knows he won't leave if he can help it!

------------------Jamil Viper-------------------

Jamil manages to catch himself fairly easily, not one to be caught off guard by a simple drop. What does catch him off guard however is fully seeing your face for the first time, so close he could reach out and touch it. His breath catches for an instant before he regains his composure. Shaking his head before speaking.

"Ahem, sorry player. It's lovely to meet you. Although I have technically Met you before, through your screen I mean... Nevermind. in any case, I trust you'll let me stay here with you? Unless all those words of flattery were false~"

He has a sly grin on his face as he takes your hand in his, obviously already knowing how much you care about him. And believe me, he's ready to take full advantage of this. Please understand he doesn't intend to misuse your good intentions, but he does fully intend to exploit them as far as they'll go. I mean, you know better than most people who he is, and yet you still care about him. You're either naive, or just don't know what you're getting into.

Either way, Jamil loaths to admit he's grown (very slightly!!!) fond of you through that screen. And will not let that affection you have for him stray, even the slightest bit. Here, he won't have to hide anything or hold back. Here, he can be completely free. So he's not going to let that slip away. He's already planning how best to keep everything perfect, and he's not above using his unique magic should it become necessary. Although deep down, he really hopes it doesn't come to that.

-a few months later-

It's nice having someone around to help with the chores, Jamil knows that more than anyone. So of course he's been doing that for the last few months, and still getting up early to make breakfast before going to a job he was able to get. It was just at a fast food place, but he quickly become a manager. So it's not the worst? He'll never bring you food from there if he can help it though, he doesn't want you eating anything except for his cooking.

He's been becoming increasingly paranoid about you, a strange feeling in his gut whenever you leave your home without him. Worries and doubts just don't leave anymore, except for when you're near and have your eyes solely on him. He's not sure what this feeling is exactly, but he already promised himself he wouldn't hold back at all in this world. Especially when you come up to him and ask again about when he's going home.

"Sigh... We've had this conversation a hundred times, I'm working on it. Don't you trust me? And besides that, is there a reason you want me gone so badly? Here I thought I was one of your favorites. ...nevermind, I made dinner. It's your favorite. Let's just eat."

Hmph he might as well not start a fight, it'd be frustrating to have you upset with him. But he's never going back to that world, not while you're in this one.

Octavinelle Part.

[Heya, author here. I don't know how to explain this one, honestly I wrote it all at like midnight so I don't remember much of it. Editing is for people who don't wanna go read Caters dream. So please enjoy my eepy fueled story! And as always, remember to drink some water and get some rest! And have a great rest of your day!]

---------------Azul Ashengrotto----------------

Azul tumbles out of the screen clumsily, barely managing to catch himself with a spell before faceplanting on the floor. Though his glasses did fall off, he needs to fix these first impressions right away! So before picking them up, he instead turns to you (Or the fuzzy outline of you.) and begins what sounds like a pre practiced speech.

"Ahem, my dear player, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance~ I, Azul ashengrotto, have come to offer you a deal! No need to be wary, I assure it's nothing like those ones people signed during exam season. I merely want you to allow me to stay in your home for the foreseeable future, in exchange for services such as cleaning and cooking! Isn't that an agreeable deal? And I won't even make you sign a contract, just a verbal agreement and a handshake will do~"

Despite a little more squinting during the proposal than he'd intended, and his hand being a little to the right. It doesn't seem like a bad deal all in all. Now listen, you'd probably never sign a contract for this dude. But, no contract. So after a few nerve wracking moments for Azul, he sighs with relief as you place the glasses back on his face, and shake his hand, agreeing to his terms.

The relief he felt was immense, he knew that you knew about who he was. So he's a surprised you actually agreed, but glad nonetheless. Once he regains his composure properly (and stops staring at you in awe of how pretty you look now that he has his glasses again) he'll start right on his end of the deal. He can't give you a chance to back out now!

-a few months later-

Things have been going smoothly, all according to Azuls plans! He's made himself an unremovable part of your life, and your home has never been neater. Plus all your meals are amazing nutritionally wise, and pretty good tasting. Altogether, it should be perfect, right? Just say it's all perfect and stop talking about him going home.

Have you noticed it already? The hours he spends making failure after failure so your meals are perfect? The anxiety hidden beneath the surface? He wouldn't normally be this worried, but you know. You know everything he wanted to keep a secret. Can you tell how scared he is that he isn't doing enough? Please, just stop talking about his home. It isn't fair...

"Hm? Going home? Well of course I shall go home eventually, but our partnership here is a little more beneficial for the time being. As you well know, I'm a business man at heart. So until this deal runs dry, let's just continue like this~"

Azul will keep grasping for this life with you as long as he can, eventually he plans for you to sign a contract with him so you could never leave. So don't ruin it before then...

------------------Jade Leech-------------------

Jade is cunning, but not the quickest on his feet. So you get the absolutely once in a lifetime chance to see him face first on the floor, and completely caught off guard. Believe me, this never happens, so enjoy this for the brief moments you can before he picks himself up and brushes himself off. Then turns and smiles at you like that didn't just happen, offering a hand in greeting.

"Why hello, it's a pleasure to meet you of course. I've been waiting a long time to meet the illustrious player. I wish I had a gift to present to you, I did arrive unannounced after all. I hope you'll excuse that oversight on my part. Hm, this is the place the player resides in? You have quite the quaint abode. Would you mind terribly if I stayed here until I find my way back home?"

Despite how normal the words are, his tone is absolutely terrifying. He IS staying here, you don't have a say in this. In good news, he probably won't kill you? In not as good news, it's only a probably. But hey, maybe you can just ignore all those red flags, and signs, and honestly everything, and just accept the eel into your home and heart. I mean, he's gonna do that whether you want it or not, so it might be a good idea to just give in now.

Jade is already planning out how to make sure you never want him to leave, he knows that you've already seen a lot of his "behind the mask" so he's interested in seeing how you'll act knowing all that. Everything about you is just... Interesting. He can't wait to see how this all turns out (Cue evil laugh).

-a few months later-

Everything about you is just so fun, he loves learning all about what makes you tick. How flustered you could be when he holds your face in his gloved hand, and makes you look up into his eyes with that dang smile on his face. And he must admit he's starting to feel similarly, a strange experience. Sometimes he'd give you money with unknown origins so you'll stay home for a day, just don't ask where it came from. You Really don't wanna find out.

Jade is an expert at mind games, but it seems you still are able to find his weakness. You keep asking about when he plans on returning home, just the thought of it is revolting. Why would he abandon such a fun new... Ah probably shouldn't finish that line of thought. But nevertheless, you keep asking, and he keeps deflecting. And this will probably continue forever, or at least as long as this remains interesting~

"I should go home soon? Why yes, I assure you I'm working on a way home at every free moment. But it's all so difficult, I thank you for your patience with this horrid matter. In the meantime, shall I pour you a cup of tea? I made it fresh for you when I heard you come in."

Don't be fooled by his smile, he knows he already has you trapped. And who in their right mind would let their prey escape so easily?

------------------Floyd Leech------------------

Sure Floyd might've fallen on his face, but he has a big grin as soon as he sees you. You're the fun person behind shrimpy! Hehe, he's been wanting to meet'cha ever since he first noticed you way back then! He leans in close to your face as he speaks, looking as deranged as always :D

"Ehhh, it's the player? ahaha, I've wanted to see ya for awhile! You're cuter without that annoyin' screen in the way~ I just wanna squeeze you till you pop! ...huh you have an okay place I guess, it could definitely be a little more fun though~ You should draw a picture of me and hang it up!"

He gets so close your faces are practically touching, but he eventually sighs and turns a little to sit down next to you. Practically glued to your side as he does. ...is this a sign for things to come? I mean, you Could kick him out now, but why tho? This could be fun! Chilling with a erratic eel that popped out of your screen, I mean what's the worst that can happen?

Floyd is already looking forward to that~ what sorta chaos can he pull in this world? Ooh, he remembers this world doesn't have magic, that'll be super fun to mess around with! And this world has the player! Betcha all the guys back home would be super jealous of him right now~ He can't wait to try everything he's wanted to with you! And he knows for a fact it'll be fun!

-a few months later-

Well... Life has certainly become more... Fun? Is that the right word??? Since Floyd showed up. Every morning is a gamble as to whether your home is gonna be a mess from a random idea Floyd had, or sparkling clean since he had an urge to clean up and see your reaction. Speaking of, make sure to praise him for that, otherwise it's gonna be just the mess for awhile. And somehow he just has money??? Where? When? How??? Yeah, you aren't getting answers to any of those questions. Probably magic?

Well in any case, Floyd has certainly been enjoying himself! I mean he gets to have fun and hang out with you everyday! He's only had a few bad days since coming here, and they've always happened whenever you're being extra pushy about him going home. Like geez, when are ya gonna get it? You're way too oblivious if you think he ever is gonna go home before this gets boring.

"When do I wanna go home? Later. It's way more fun here~ you've been asking a lot recently, ...do you really wanna get rid of me that bad? Dang player, here I'd thought you'd be happy with just me. Guess I'll have to try harder! what's with that look on your face? Are ya scared~"

Floyd looks terrifying, but hey, might as well make the best of this. Since no matter the horrors about to be unleashed, with Floyd doing it, they're certain to be fun! (For Floyd)

Savanaclaw Part.

[heya, author here! I ended up writing this on Leonas birthday haha, hope I got the writing down good! I actually didn't like savanaclaw that much when I started playing, but they've grown on me! And of course remember to drink some water and get some rest haha. And have a great rest of your day!!]

---------------Leona Kingscholar--------------

Leona looks disgruntled for a moment when he falls, but manages to land on his feet (cat). He yawns as he looks around the room, looking altogether unimpressed. His expression obviously questioning how you live here. Before his eyes turn down and he looks you over with a scrutinizing gaze.

"This is he great players place? Eh, I guess it'll do for now. Just know I'm expecting the royal treatment. You're always gushing over me, time to prove that wasn't just words herbivore. Hah, ya should see the look on your face. Absolutely priceless~"

He smirks as he talks, tilting his head as he sounds amused. Then he yawns and sits down next to you, resting his arm over your shoulder. He leans back and looks up at the ceiling, looking contemplative. Before he slowly closes his eyes, yawning again before falling asleep.

He figures he might as well keep acting cocky here, that's what you seemed to like when he was just a character. Besides, there's no way is he gonna change his personality for a herbivore, even a somewhat special one. He already knows they're gonna let him stay here. ...maybe he could give them one of his bracelets or something to pay for the food expenses. But if he does, he wants only the best.

-a few months later-

Leona doesn't really leave your house, if there's a park nearby, he might go and sunbath. Or a gym occasionally. But mostly he just stays at home (waiting for you). He doesn't really help around the house, you're lucky if he picks up his own shirts from the floor. But somehow he manages to give you enough cash to pay for his expenses, and extra?! Where the heck did he get that!?

Leona won't answer that question ever, just shrugging and rolling over if you try and get answers out of him. And the same goes for when you bring up his home, seriously, why would he go back there? Where he'll never be anything but second. At least here he's with you. ...it's not often you catch him in a vulnerable moment, but when you do, he'll talk a bit more. Especially under the stars

"Yeah, the stars are interesting I guess. There's a thing about them in my homeland, how they're the kings of the past watching us. Never believed that. But hey, there's completely new stars here. Even if that was true, these stars don't know me. Hm? Going back? Absolutely not. I've gotten used to this place... And... Nevermind. I came here to watch the stars in peace, either be quiet or head back inside."

He's not quite ready to say he's gotten used to You as well, but just give him time. And why not watch the stars with him? It's a beautiful sky tonight. Perfect for forgetting your worries, and just resting.

-----------------Ruggie Bucchi-----------------

Ruggie is thankfully very quick on his feet, so he manages to catch himself on the edge of your chair. He looks a little surprised at first, but quickly gets a smile when he realizes who you are. He's a little nervous all and all, but he never gets chance like this normally! Might as well take it!

"What the? Player, is that you!? Shyhehe, guess it's true every dog has its day! Or... Hyena? Doesn't matter. Nice to meet'cha! Been waiting for awhile! Hey, this ain't too shabby~ Is this your place? I could get used to this. I mean, you're not gonna just kick me out, right? Not when I've just gotten here!"

You could swear he's putting on puppy eyes (hyena eyes???) when he looks at you, clasping your hands in his, instinctually stealing your wallet, pleading for a place to stay, putting back the wallet since he wants to make a good first impression. Regular stuff. All in all, about the best first impression you can have with Ruggie. And believe me, he's trying.

I mean, who wouldn't try their hardest when they've finally been thrown a bone by the universe? A chance to meet the ever elusive player! Once in a lifetime, y'know? And he's always been a pro of making the most of his wins, so he's not letting this opportunity slip through his fingers! He's just gotta hope they didn't notice their wallet disappearing, and let him stay here.

-a few months later-

Things have been going pretty well for Ruggie! I mean he's had pretty consistent meals, and a different society that doesn't immediately look down on him for the hyena thing. I mean... Mostly? He's been called a furry a few times, but he's gotten good at hiding the ears with hair clips for everyday stuff. Including at the new job he's gotten at a grocery store, where he so kindly always manages to find a home for the still good products the store wants to throw out.

Besides all that however, he's still a little unsure about all this. I mean, he loves being here with you! And he loves the opportunities he's getting here! But he can't say he's not worried about his grandma, or the other kids in his neighborhood. He wishes they could all be here with him. He also wishes you would stop bringing it up, it's already hard enough without the reminders!

"D'ya want me to go home? Why do you keep askin'? I mean, I've got everything I ever wanted here! I'll go back later. But definitely not now, and definitely not for awhile! This is one of the first times I've been accepted without question, I ain't letting that go! I ain't letting you go!"

Maybe things will never be fair for him, but this is the closest thing he's gotten in a long time. And you're someone who just accepts him. You already gave him your heart, and it's too late to take it back!

------------------Jack Howl--------------------

Jack didn't know what he expected today, but falling out of the players screen and directly onto their floor was not it. Seriously, first impressions are important! And he's already made a fool of himself... Nevermind, he can't let that hold him back from trying to fix this.

"P-player!? Oh gosh. I'm sorry, did I break something? Okay, I didn't. That's a relief... Um, it's nice to meet you player. I've wanted to meet you for awhile, it's nice to finally get the chance. You look great, and um... Nevermind."

He's acting in such a stiffly polite way, it's a little adorable. Definitely shouldn't say that to his face though, not while he's trying so hard to make a good impression on you! He's wanted to meet you for so long, he's still not convinced this isn't just a dream. But he's not gonna take that chance and mess it all up!

He's a little worried they won't let him stay here, since he arrived without warning. But that doesn't dampen his excitement of meeting you, or slow his wagging tail. Which is another thing you probably shouldn't mention out loud lol. His eyes are shining despite the worry in them, and despite how out of place the puppy eyes look on someone as muscley as Jack, they just work. Who are you to turn him away! Obviously he can stay!

-a few months later-

Jack's been happy here with you. Waking up early to take a jog, making you food in the mornings when he gets home. He managed to get a job at a gym nearby as a trainer, and he seems excited with it! And obviously your house has a bunch of new cacti in it, sitting on windowsills, on the table. It's a package deal with Jack!

Honestly his life feels complete with you in it. He never expected he could have this sorta life with you... So why do you keep talking about him going home and leaving it behind? Don't you think of this like a dream? You've both worked for this, so why don't you just accept that he's not gonna leave if he can help it! Wolves mate for life, and he ain't gonna stop caring about you! Obviously he misses his siblings, but he'd miss you way more if he never saw you again.

[Heya folks! Finally finished it all a few minutes ago, gonna post them all and then go read Caters dream. Basically no editing since I'm tired lolol. Quick note, I have a terrible case of 'the first things I write are shorter than the last' so these are pretty short. Hope they read well haha. Have a great rest of your day, and remember to drink some water!]

---------------Riddle Rosehearts---------------

Riddle falls rather inelegantly onto the ground at your feet, before standing up quickly and brushing himself off, looking embarrassed and a little flustered.

"Ah, player! Goodness, please forgive my entrance. I hadn't expected the spell to work so... Roughly. I should've caught myself with wind magic. Ahem, it's a pleasure to meet you, truly. I hope I didn't bother you..."

He just practically fell on his face in front of the player!! There might not be a rule about this, but there definitely should be! He makes sure he didn't break anything when he fell, then he seems rather awkward. This was not part of his plan, he'd hoped to make a perfect first impression, then make you tea. Not this!

This is the players home, they stay here... He's only seen it in the background of your screen. ...he's here. Oh goodness, he's in the players home! He'll have to start by getting them some fresh flowers as a gift, then... Well he'll make a in depth plan soon. For now, he just needs to hope the player will accept him. They will, won't they?

-A few months later-

He adjusts well to your home, and your schedule becomes much more organized. And he's trying to help out around the house to pay you back for your hospitality! He might not be very good with the cooking, but he'll try his best! And cleaning is a sinch for him, since he learned a few spells for it when he first started at NRC. He's even gotten lucky and got a job at a flower shop to pay you back for his expenses!

But any talks of him going back to his world are met with a curt dismissal, before quickly asking if you've noticed something new he's done around the house. He doesn't want you to mention him going home, and he doesn't want to think about it. He's here now, why would he ever want to go home and face his mother again? Why would he ever want to leave you?

"...hmph, my world is the least of my concerns right now. You would just go back to your unorganized life again, and I absolutely cannot leave knowing that. In any case, you haven't seemed to have noticed the tea I prepared for us. Shall we have some?"

Please don't tell him to go back, he doesn't want to leave you. You won't order him too, will you?

-------------------Trey Clover-------------------

Trey hadn't been planning on this today, but it's a welcome surprise for him nonetheless. Well... It is after he picks himself off the floor and reorientates himself. Geez, in front of the player and everything. He can only hope this wasn't a disappointing first impression.

"Oh gosh, hey player, sorry for the abrupt entrance haha... I had hoped our first meeting would've been a bit, um, well less like this. But hey, if you've got a kitchen or ingredients, I can maybe make you something?"

And make you something he did! Even if you didn't have the ingredients or the space to make it, he seemingly was able to get everything he needed easily. Like he has a sixth sense for the stuff. And believe me, the dessert he made was perfect! Although he didn't want to accept any compliments, he really did appreciate them.

Of course he strongly insists you brush your teeth afterwards, but hey. That's just Trey for you haha. he's worrying in the inside, wondering if the dessert he made was good enough for the player. But he has faith in his skills, so he can only hope it was enough. And maybe with some luck, they'll let him stay here.

-A few months later-

He quickly becomes a normal part of your life. He will try to earn extra money for you by selling his pastries, but he still saves the best ones for you. And you can't remember the last time you came home to a dirty house since he came here. Yet he still refuses to accept any dang compliments, saying it's the least he could do for you letting him stay there.

Something else he refuses however, is properly talking about him going back to his home. Always managing to redirect your attention somewhere else so you hopefully forget, or at least stop talking so seriously about it... He's always been good at that.

"Hm? Going home? Yeah. That sounds interesting I guess, but I don't have time to think about that right now. I actually have a quiche in the oven, do you want some when it's done? I already set the table, so you can just sit down haha."

He knows he's not the "most interesting" guy out there, but he hopes you won't just leave him behind. You can't...

-----------------Cater Diamond----------------

Cater takes a few moments to get his bearings from the floor, before jumping up and putting on a happy smile, giving you a peace sign. Of course he's panicking on the inside, but he isn't gonna show it if he can help it. Gotta make a perfect first impression with the player!

"Heya player, Cay-Cay here! Hope I didn't scare you too much haha. I've been waiting to meet you for awhile~ we should totally take a picture to commemorate this, hashtag dream come true!"

He pulls his phone out from his pocket, which luckily wasn't broken during his fall. Quickly posing and snapping a pic with you, that bright smile still stuck on his face as he looks the photo over, adding a few filters as he does.

He's very conscious of how he portrays himself to you right now, more than normal. You're the player after all, the player! He trusts you won't just hate him off the bat, but he has to make sure. Maybe he can figure out a way to convince you to let him stay here? I mean, he definitely doesn't wanna leave now that he's gotten his chance!

-a few months later-

Over the last few weeks, Cater has neatly inserted himself into your life. He's just... There, like he should be there. And who are you to turn him away? He's been paying rent with money he earned from running a pretty good social media account, and he's a fun presence around the place. Sometimes dragging you into new (cough cough) couple (cough cough) trends.

But it's all a distraction, something to keep you from remembering he doesn't really belong here. Maybe if he's able to fool himself alongside you, it'll finally be true? Just stop asking about him going home, please...

"Huh? Oh, yeah I mean it was nice back home, but I totes prefer the vibe here haha. Ah, do you really want me gone already? I'm just kidding~ oh hey, seeing you reminded me of a new trend! Wanna try it out?"

Cater has many masks, he'll wear whichever one he needs to keep you from leaving him behind. So just don't leave... Please.

------------------Deuce Spade-----------------

Deuce barely managed to catch himself roughly on the seat next to you, and your leg. He looks so lost and confused, but eventually realizes what he's doing and gets up quickly, a soft blush on his face. He just grabbed the player pretty roughly! Oh geez... There goes his first impressions...

"Gah! I'm really sorry player! Are you hurt? Oh no... I really wanted our first meeting to be perfect, I've thought about it for so long and... Ah, forget I said anything! Um... I'll try and make it better, okay? Can I help in any way?"

He looks so earnest and worried, it's honestly really sweet. But so is the relief on his face when you say you're alright, and he really didn't do anything wrong. But he still insists on making up for it in any way. He can't let his first impressions with the player be horrible.

To be perfectly honest, he's thought about how this meeting would go again and again. It's the sorta dream you put on a pedestal and admire sometimes when you feel bad, not the sort of one that you actually expect to come true. So now that he's finally got his chance, he's gonna prove his worth in every way he can! He just hopes they'll keep him around until he can...

-a few months later-

Deuce tries his hardest to pull his weight around the place, constantly volunteering and helping out when he sees you carrying stuff. And he's learning to cook! So far it's mostly egg recipes, and it's a great start! Just... get used to slightly burnt food for the time being. Plus somehow he also managed to get a part time job at a mechanic shop, buying himself a motorcycle after paying you back for the food and everything else.

Life has become so busy for Deuce, that he often forgets about going home entirely. Of course he really misses his mom, but he knows he'll regret it way more if he ever leaves you behind. He's not trying to dismiss you when you bring it up, he just really wishes you'd forget about it.

"When will I go home? I mean, I dunno... It was a pretty complex spell to get me here, and it'd be hard to replicate. But, does that mean you want me to leave? I swear I'll do my best to be more helpful from now on!"

He knows he may need to leave one day, but he's so scared of you being out of his life. He's already decided that he'll only leave if he can take you with him, and nothing will change that. So please wait for him!

-----------------Ace Trappola------------------

Ace... Well goodness. Not only did he catch himself, but he managed to pose with heart hands as well. This smug boy seemed to have known he was gonna fall, and prepared accordingly. And now he has a smirk on his face as he looks you straight in the eyes.

"Hey player~ looks like I've fallen for you~ pfft- haha just kidding. Kinda. It's good to see you face to face! And y'know, since I put in so much hard work to get here, do you think I'd be able to crash at your place for awhile? You wouldn't say no to me, would you?"

The sheer charming arrogance practically exuding from this scamp, it's endearing in an annoying way. Even when he takes your hand to help himself up with a wink, it's honestly a little infuriating. And believe me, Ace knows this.

But he also knows he can't risk a bad first impression with you either. The player has been there since the beginning, Ace was one of the first folks to meet you through that screen. He'll never say it out loud, but he's been planning how this meeting would go, for a long time. He knows he pulled it off pretty well, but he hopes it's good enough so you'll let him stay with you for a long time.

-a few months later-

Ace wormed his way deep into your life, not wanting to give you a chance to leave him behind. Just look at him! He's such a fun and great guy! He's even gotten a job at a movie theater to pay you back, so why don't you go watch a movie with him later? His treat~ he'll even help you with the chores around the house, and make you (pretty okay) food! Ain't he your favorite?

What's there not to love about him? He's trying so hard, stop asking about him going home. He just wants to stay here, you wouldn't kick him out so heartlessly, right? C'mon, stop asking about it. He's not gonna just leave now that he's finally here with you! Let's just forget about that, please?

"Huh? When am I going back? Ha, didn't think you wanted me gone so soon~ no way am I leaving you by your lonesome, who knows what sorta mess you'd get yourself into without me! Now c'mon, I got us tickets for that movie you were talking about! I'll even buy you snacks~"

Life falls into a regular (but nice) routine, anything to keep you from kicking him out. See player? He's definitely worth keeping around! You wouldn't just throw him out now, would you?

Okay! Poll is in, and I think I have an idea for how I wanna do this. I'll put them in separate posts but release them all in a single day. Just so I can tag it properly without missing characters haha. I've just finished Vils a couple minutes ago, so I should be done in a few days based on everything? Gonna try and finish pomefiore today. Also I think I accidentally made some of them a little yandere lolol. Anyway, thanks to everyone who voted! I'll try and make these great! Hey hey! Author here with a small update! I've been working on a new (series???) thingy. The reason I'm putting question marks there, is cause it's... Drum roll please! [Sad single bang of a drum that scares me and makes me drop my water]

Yeah, been working in my notes app for some individual stuff. It'll be pretty short I think? But so far I've finished them up to Jade. I can probably release them starting tomorrow by dorm? As a sorta series. Or I can wait for a few days and try and finish them all, and put it in a bigger thing.

So I'll leave it up to you folks! Do you want me to release heartslabyul tomorrow then savanaclaw the next day and so on? Or do you want to wait for a week so I can put them all in a single fic? Either works for me haha.

Scenes Of Our World.

Self aware twst oneshot

[hey!! Guess who got bored over the weekend? No need to guess actually, it was me. Wasn't really planning on writing more after my little series, but this idea started plaguing me. Decided to just get it into words, and out of my head lol. This isn't proofread or anything, just finished it last night. Hope you enjoy the silly idea I had! And I also hope you remember to drink some water and get some rest if it's late!]

Now as a Twisted Wonderland fan, there are certain things you can expect. Amazing story? Yes! Pretty cards? Also yes! Self aware characters? Um... Yes? Apparently???

It started with small things, little nods to the fact they're in a game. For example, a new line of dialogue here or there (mostly Idia). Or their movements appearing more fluid. Though that quickly leads to a full new vignette just appearing in the vignette tab of the stories. The name is a little off as well, "they're listening" Like geez... but you aren't gonna complain about extra character moments! Or the five gems. So obviously you click on it!

Cater: "Hey-hey trey-trey! Wanna guess what I saw on magicam?"

Trey: "Hey Cater, I was about to ask why you're sitting on my counter actually... can I assume you're not gonna get off until I ask about the magicam thing?"

Cater: "Lol, what a hurtful thing to say! Of course I'll get off right away! ...just as soon ask~"

Trey: "Hahhh, fine. What did you see Cater?"

Cater: "A new hashtag is going viral on magicam! Self aware au's! Apparently the first big post came from an account right from NRC itself haha."

Trey: "...Hey now... Y'know they're listening in right now, we have to be a bit more careful with our words. You're being pretty bold now that you're able to talk freely in front of them..."

Trey looks a little apprehensive, and you could swear he looks between you and Cater a few times, but Cater just winks, smiling at him

Cater: "C'mon Trey! Don't be so worried all the time~ it's boring to keep pretending, I'm sure they won't mind. You seem pretty chill, right player~?"

He looks directly at the screen, winking again at you. At which point the vignette ends abruptly, leaving you so confused. But hey, five extra gems!

No amount of poking around the screens and stories give any more answers to what just happened, and as soon as you click away, the vignette disappears from the list of them. It all felt like a weird dream. Until the next day at least, when another vignette pops up. This one called "this whole time"

Ruggie: "Hey there Jack, new workout routine?"

Jack: "Yeah, gotta train hard. Professor Vargas says that it's essential to have muscles to cast stronger spells! Not only that, but I saw a new workout online and wanted to try it out."

Ruggie: "Huh, guess that's tough guys for ya. No amount of muscle would ever be enough shyhehe!"

Jack: "I told you, it ain't just for muscle! I've gotta get stronger in every way to do what I have to!"

Ruggie: "Boy, you sure are zealous about this whole thing... Then again, who ain't on this campus? Ever since they showed up, people started working harder. Like guys puffing their chests out on a beach!"

Jack: "Hey... Hmph. Anyway, if I ever want to be strong enough to bring 'em here, I'll just need to keep training."

Ruggie: "I ain't sure it works like that, but eh, I don't really care. Good luck Jack! Although maybe remember to focus on your surroundings a bit more while training!"

Jack: "Wait a sec, Ruggie, what are you talking about?"

Ruggie: "I mean, they've been here this whole time shyhehe!"

Jack: "Wait, seriously!?"

Jack looks around frantically as Ruggie laughs at him, before eventually meeting your gaze and looking shocked. Then he looks embarrassed as he shakes his head. But the vignette ends abruptly again, and you receive your five gems!!! Woo!!! Maybe next time you should screenshot it though, since the record was gone as soon as the reward screen disappeared.

And like last time, everything went back to normal until the next day. When yet another vignette appears. Although you're a little sceptical since the name is "uninvited guest". Five gems are five gems!!

Floyd: "Ehhhhhh it's so borrriinnngg..."

Jade: "Whatever's the matter Floyd? You've been in a bad mood all day."

Floyd: "Sea bream and sea turtle got a chance to basically talk to them a couple days ago! And just yesterday shark sucker and sea urchin did too! When's it gonna be my turn..."

Jade: "Ah, have you truly not noticed yet? My, for someone like you not to notice something so obvious, heh."

Floyd: "What're ya talking about? Stop stalling and just say it already!"

Jade: "Well it appears we've had an uninvited guest this whole conversation, although not unwanted mind you. I'd offer them tea, but I think the screen would get in the way."

Floyd: "Huh? They're here!?"

Floyd stands up quickly from where he had been lounging on a couch, and as soon as he notices you, he rushes to the screen and grabs it while smiling, then he waves.

Floyd: "Heya player! Why didn't you say anything? Ahaha, when you get here, I'll have to squeeze ya real good for that~"

Jade: "Now now Floyd, no need to get ahead of ourselves just yet. After all, they're still on that side of the glass. For now at least~ heheheh..."

Floyd's looks like his mood was raised exponentially, and Jade looks terrifying as usual. But sadly (or thankfully) you can't see what happens next, as the screen fades to black and the vignette ends again. And hey, small wins, five gems! Yay!

Now look, by this point any reasonable person should've uninstalled the game, and probably thrown away the phone as well. But who said you're a reasonable person? Of course you come right back the next day for another vignette with a weird name, and Another Five Gems!!!! This time it's called "almost done it" and as soon as you click on it, kalim comes running up to the screen, so close it fills up basically the entire screen.

Jamil: "Kalim, don't stand so close to the screen. It's rude to them."

Kalim: "Huh? Why's that Jamil?"

Jamil: "I know you've been waiting for them to show up today, but your face is smushed against the screen. They probably can't see anything else."

Kalim: "OH! Ahaha, that makes sense! Sorry player!

Kalim turns and smiles apologetically at the screen as he takes a few steps back, while Jamil look upset.

Jamil: "Hey, don't acknowledge them so directly!"

Kalim: "What? Now why...?"

Jamil: "sigh... Based on what I've heard, the other dorms moments like this were cut off once they acknowledged them directly."

Kalim: "Oh right, sorry Jamil haha. Completely forgot about that!"

Jamil: "...Of course you did... Kalim, try not to be so absent minded next time. You nearly ended this time with them early!"

Kalim: "Yeah yeah, sorry... But hey! At least they're still here!"

Jamil: "I suppose. ...hm, what if I...? Ahem, if any ghosts are listening in to this conversation, I want them to know I'll find a way to bring them to this world fully, and we've almost done it."

Kalim: "Ghosts? Oh, wait you mean the playe-"

Jamil sighs with exasperation as Kalim looks happy, but the vignette ended right there, so you can't see what happened next. But... Ooh five more gems!!!! Yay!!!!! Let's focus on that! Not the fact the characters in your phone might be self aware.

Moving right along! The next day comes with a new vignette named "Joueur Injoignable", and another five gems! Yay! Even though you know you should be getting pretty dang concerned by now, who are you to say no to five gems? And besides that, fun character moments that are only slightly concerning!

Rook: "Ah Monsieur Pommette, it appears our friend behind the glass has paid us a visit at last! If only the roi du poison was here to join us in our moment of joy!"

Epel: "Gah Rook!? Why're you in mah room!? Ahem, ah dagnabbit, sorry... But seriously, why are you here?!"

Rook: "My dear Monsieur Pommette, as soon as I saw the first signs of our darling Joueur Injoignable, I knew I had to share such beauté with you!"

Epel: "Wait a second, they're here right now?! Rook! You can't just spring stuff like this onto me without even a warnin'!!! Geez, I'm lucky Vil ain't here to chew me out for talkin' like this is front of them..."

Rook: "now now, don't be so disheartened! We have been given a lovely opportunity to say whatever we wish to them! Isn't that beautiful?"

Epel: "...I question your idea of beautiful, but fine. It's nice to finally talk to ya! Well I can't exactly hear if you're saying anything back... But at least I can say what I want! And I wanted to invite you to my families farm, when Vil and the others finally finish whatever they're workin' on!"

Rook: "I would also like to extend an invitation to them, a visit to one of my families villas! There's a woods behind it, so I can teach you how to hunt, if you don't already know. Then I can hunt with you~!"

Epel: "You're taking them... Hunting? Really?"

Rook: "Oui, of course! There's no easier way to learn more about a person than witness them in such a exhilarating atmosphere! Ah, to see the tension in their movements, and how their eyes will widen with shock when..."

Epel: "Rook why do you have that look on your face? You're making it seem like you're gonna hunt them!"

Rook: "Well if they would be agreeable to it, I would enjoy a game of hide and seek with them~"

Epel: "Rook no! You're gonna scare the player away!"

Thankfully for you, the vignette ended right there (If it isn't obvious, Rook scares me a little haha). in any case, you received your five gems, along with a lingering feeling of being watched. Lovely... And worth it.

And like clockwork now, as soon as you log into twisted wonderland the next day, you see the new vignette show up, this time named "to you IRL!" and based on the trend, you can correctly guess it's ignihyde time!

Idia: "...Gahhh... Why's premo dropping a new single today...? Maybe I have time to listen to it before they show up? Huh? Oh dang, out of snacks lol. Life sux... Time to brave the outside world and- who am I kidding? Just gonna msg Ortho lolol."

Idia is spinning around on his gaming chair, seemingly not having noticed you yet as he messages Ortho at the speed of sound. Who shows up surprisingly quickly with a bag of (healthy) chips, and fruit juice. Gotta take care of his big brother!

Ortho: "Hey Idia, came as soon as I received your message! Really though, you've gotta start going out to get your own snacks again!"

Idia: "The last time I did that, I got mistaken as a mad scientist spirit! And thnx btw."

Ortho shakes his head before turning around to leave, only to notice the screen, finally.

Ortho: "Brother!! Why didn't you tell me they were already here!?"

Idia, already pulling his headphones back on with a chip in his mouth, but freezing at those words: "what did u just say?"

Ortho: "sigh Brother, I've begged you to not talk while eating."

Idia: "They're already here!?! No no no no... I didn't have prep time! I thought it'd be later today! Why's there a sudden quick time event!??"

Ortho: "Please calm down, they're still here."

Idia: "Gahhh, don't remind me! How long have they been here..."

Ortho: "We can worry about that later! C'mon, you had something you wanted to say the them when they showed up, didn't you?"

Idia: "Why're you putting me on the spot like this?! This is torture... F-fine, let me just pull up the tts I made of it earlier..."

Idia takes his tablet, and holds it close to the screen. Out of it, you can hear his voice.

Tablet Idia: "Hey there player! Bet you feel pretty lucky to have the characters you love talk to you IRL! All it took was a little messing around with your screen. It wasn't perfect, since it keeps cutting out. But hey, you win some you lose some. Gg's and stuff. N E way, if you want some even better news, we've all been working on a way to get you here heh, mostly me since I'm the smartest out of all these noobs by far-"

The vignette cuts off yet again, and you're left confused. Like geez Idia, what was THAT? And pls stop calling other people noobs... In better news though, five gems!!! And you've actually got enough for a full one pull! So excited for that sweet sweet R card! (Sorry lol)

In any case, despite your better judgement (or maybe because of it lol). You still logged on the next day. You tell yourself it's to find out what's happening, and to figure out how they're self aware. But really it's for those five gems, you're not tricking anyone! This time it's name is "a welcome gift".

Silver: "Sebek, father wanted to know if you were prepared for tomorrow. Malleus is already at the mirror chamber setting everything up."

Sebek: "Don't doubt me Silver! I've been preparing the room my liege requested for them!"

Silver: "That's good, they'll need a place to stay. I've been keeping father company so he doesn't make welcome snacks."

Sebek shivers, shaking his head as he hangs a sword on the wall next to a picture of Malleus.

Sebek: "Good, I don't want to imagine what... Unique food he'd make."

Silver: "Yeah. Speaking of unique though, are you certain they need so many swords? Maybe they would like different sorts of weapons as well. Like a battle axe? Or a spear? It's best to let them pick the sword on their own. Also... Please take down the portrait of Malleus. ...Is that the one from your room?"

Sebek: "I WILL NOT! EVERY GOOD ROOM IN THIS DORM SHOULD HAVE A PORTRAIT OF HIM! Hmph! And yes, it's a welcome gift. They should be proud! But you might have a point about the sword thing. I'll ask Lilia if I can get some of the weapons from the storage room."

Silver: "Okay, I need to be getting back to father now. I fear he told me to check on you simply for the chance to make snacks unsupervised..."

Sebek: "That's a good idea. We don't need them getting poisoned on their first day here."

Silver sighs as he heads to the door, only to start in surprise when he sees the screen there, having been there for awhile without their notice. Then he smiles calmly, shaking his head.

Silver: "Ah, goodness! How long have you been there?"

Sebek: "Who are you talking to Silv-! THE PLAYER IS HERE!? What an extreme oversight on my part to not have noticed them sooner!! PLAYER! WHAT WEAPONS DO YOU PREFER?"

Unfortunately for you (and Sebeks plight), that's the moment the vignette fades to black and you receive your FIVE GEMS! WOO! WORKING TOWARDS ANOTHER R CARD! But seriously, it is slightly concerning. I mean, the characters you care about, being real? How awful! Pfft- haha.

Yeah, obviously you're gonna log on the next day. Only to be met with an automatic scene as soon as you get past the title. You don't even get the login bonus! For shame. Grim is sitting on a chair in ramshackle, rocking back and forth anxiously as he looks around. Before noticing you pretty quickly.

Grim: "Mrah... Why do I gotta be the one to do this...? Gah! They're already here!"

He jumps off his seat, grabbing the screen with a surprised and slightly annoyed expression.

Grim: "Took ya long enough! I thought I was gonna die of boredom before you showed up! Hmph... Anyways, those stupid housewardens asked me to bring you to the mirror chamber. And normally the great Grim wouldn't do something for them, but since they asked so nicely (and gave him egregious amounts of tuna) I've decided to help them out!"

He starts carrying the screen with him, walking quickly to the mirror chamber. Giving you a (very shakey) view of the campus.

Grim: "I mean, I wanna meet you in person too, but... Well obviously you're still gonna spend a lotta time with me even once you're here, right? Yeah! After all, who could ignore the great Grim! Myahaha! Since I'm super nice, you can be my henchhuman too! Just don't spend too much time with everyone else. Bosses orders!"

Grim sounds worried, but quickly shakes his head (and the screen even more) putting on a faux confidence as he eventually enters the mirror chamber. All the overblot gang are standing there, a solemn air to the room.

Riddle: "You're here, and you brought the players screen I see. Very good."

Leona: "I still don't like that we needed the fuzz ball for this."

Azul: "Now Leona, this isn't the time for arguing. Let's simply focus on the task ahead of us~"

Leona: "Hmph, as if I need You to tell me that. Damn cephalopunk."

Jamil: "Can you not? I for one need to focus on casting my end of the spell."

Vil: "Yes, that's correct. Goodness, to think you'd be so uncivilized even in this situation."

Idia: "I hate this... Why's the tension so high rn...? This is why I prefer virtual..."

Malleus: "Silence! Let us begin quickly. Grim, set the players screen in front of the dark mirror."

Riddle: "...Since when were you in charge?"

Grim walks over to the dark mirror, grumbling about how he doesn't like taking orders from people, before setting the screen down in front of it. You're no longer able to see any of them, only the dark mist swirling underneath the surface of the glass. Slowly that mist turns brighter and brighter until your entire screen is a swirling white, like a polished marble. You can hear a crack, and see one forming in your screen. But before you can properly react, your vision goes completely white.

Next thing you know, you're standing in the mirror chamber. Surrounded by the overblotters plus Grim, who look a little shocked that you're actually there. But that shock passes as one of them walks towards you. Smiling proudly.

"I've been waiting for this moment for awhile, it's good to meet you, player."

The Game That Is Life.

Final part!!!

[Author here! So excited to have finished my first series, and I'll admit it was pretty hard. But in the end, I'm glad I got my idea out of my head and into words! As with the other parts of this, I'm not sure if I did the best. But I hope you'll bear with me haha :D and as always, remember to drink some water and get some rest! And, remember that you're lovely!!!]

Yuu has noticed something, Riddle has been acting strangely since his overblot. He won't look at Yuu, only past them. At the screen. The screen and the damn player! But it's fine. It's not like Yuu was close to Riddle in the first place.

And they don't need to be, they've only ever interacted with him while the player was controlling them. Same goes for everyone else that keeps liking the player so much! Why is it that after the characters overblot, they stare so Longingly at the player? It's sickening...

Too many months have passed since Yuu came here, and they've given up hope on ever returning home. Not as long as that screen stays here, keeping them here, keeping them under their control.

And yet no one seems to care. Why does everyone side with the player? Never looking at Yuu, it's always player player player! How can they get the player to stop taking everyone's attention, stop controlling them... Just stop.

...Ace has noticed Yuu getting more and more closed off, they barely leave ramshackle except when the player makes them. People are getting worried now. Ace is getting worried now.

Ever since they all had that talk with Ortho, Yuu hasn't been the same. Ace doesn't know how to fix this, but he knows he needs to do something. Yuu's been there since the start, they've been through all of this with him and Deuce. And they're affected the most by the player.

They keep making comments about people not caring about them, just the player. It ain't his usual style, but maybe he should just say that he cares about both of them? Hahhh... Talk about insecure... ...no, damnit.

He knows quite a few of the students don't care that much about Yuu, but how are they supposed to care about them if Yuu doesn't ever open up!? He's tried to tell Yuu that, but they don't listen. Saying stupid stuff like "they only care about the player, it isn't worth the disappointment" then walking away and hiding in ramshackle!

They've been holed up there for longer than usual, they haven't even come out due to the player. Most of the others are getting a little anxious with the player missing, but he's getting concerned about Yuu's absence.

Yeah, maybe he should drop in for a visit today. He tried yesterday and the day before, and he doesn't wanna come off as desperate. But they still haven't opened the door, and he just doesn't like being ignored! Yup, that's it... Besides, a new diner opened on Sages Island, and he wants to go to it with Yuu and Deuce.

Who's pounding on the door?! Geez, it's way too early for this... It's... Oh, it's twelve... Eh, still too early. Yuu wanted to sleep in again. They're finally getting the chance to now that the screen has been "taken care of" (Read - "taped onto wall").

It took a few tuna cans to keep grim quiet about it, but hey, anything to keep the player away. They still keep logging on though, just logging in, looking at the note they taped onto the screen, then eventually logging out. Can't they just give up already!? And the same goes to whoever is still pounding on the door!

Yuu eventually groans and gets up, walking towards the door with a sour and tired expression on their face. Seeing Ace certainly doesn't help their mood.

They remember seeing his face light up when the player got one of his cards, or how happy he was when he was in the "main story" or "events" when the player chose an option that acknowledged him. or laughed at one of his jokes. Stop acting like you care about Yuu!

"Heya Yuu~ took you long enough!"

Ace is smiling, acting nonchalant as he winks at Yuu, and Yuu can't help but feel a twinge of regret for how they've been acting, remembering how things were at the start. But those thoughts quickly get overshadowed as they remember exactly what behavior led them to be like this.

"Ace, what do you want?"

"There's a new diner that's opened up in town, wanna head there with me?"

"No."

"C'mon, you can't just say no like that~ I've barely seen you for a few weeks, can't you just take your Best Friend up on his offer? I'll pay~"

"...sigh..."

"Please? I already told Deuce you'd be there! You wouldn't let us down, right? You could take Grim along too."

Ace smiles brightly, poking their cheek as he tries to look charming. C'mon Yuu, Ace knows you haven't left your dorm in weeks... He wouldn't be laying the guilt on so thick if he didn't have to...

"...fine. let's just get this over with then. Grim! Come here, we're gonna go out to eat."

"We're going out to eat!? Yes! I knew my henchhuman would come around eventually! La la la~"

Ace breathes a barely noticeable sigh of relief, then his face goes right back to happy. He's genuinely glad they agreed.

"Right then, come on! I heard this place had really good popcorn!"

"Yeah yeah, I'm coming."

As Yuu walks out the door, they can't help but feel a small wave of anxiety at leaving their dorm. More importantly, leaving the players screen alone. But... For some reason, being near Ace is pretty reassuring. Maybe they can finally relax a bit.

Even if they did miss the blond haired hunter in the bushes, who had been waiting for a good chance to find out what happened to the player his roi du poison had come to care for, and that he himself was also interested about.

Your game has been acting so strange recently, and no amount of messages to the player help team has worked. You just keep getting the corporate version of a handwave, since they obviously don't believe the whole "the character is alive!" Stuff.

You still routinely log on though, hoping that it'll be fixed and back to normal each time. And for the first time in quite a few days, something actually Is different.

The homescreen background is the mirror chamber, and there's more than one character on the screen. It looks like a cutscene that would never normally be in the game. Their movements fluid enough to be real life.

It's all the characters who have overbloted. They're talking among themselves about something you can't quite make out, their words hushed as though they don't want people to notice them.

But they eventually seem to notice you, or at least your screen. It's lit up and they can make out your blurred features from behind the screen. One of them smiles and picks the screen up, taking it in front of the mirror.

"I can't wait to finally meet you."

Before you could react, the mirror starts to glow and swirl with a grey light, as they form a circle around you and point their mage stones towards the screen. Then...

You see a flash of light. And the next thing you know, you're sitting on the floor in the mirror chamber. The shattered pieces of the screen underneath you. In your state of confusion, one of them comes up and offers his hand to you. Helping you up.

"...it's good to see you, player."

When Yuu got back, they felt relaxed for the first time in months. They end up reflexively just heading for their old bedroom that they shared with Grim, and plopping down right on top of the covers. Falling asleep quickly.

Their dreams are actually peaceful, even though they were forgotten by the morning, Yuu can still remember them. Like the memory of a memory.

And they actually have the energy to head to classes today, so they decide to do so. The teachers seem happy to have them back, although a little worried in their own ways about the long absence.

That doesn't matter much to Yuu though, since today they feel calm. Like their strings have been cut, and they're free. It's a weird feeling, and they couldn't tell you where it's from. ...for most of the day that is.

The happy dream promptly falls and shatters when the prefect sees the last person they ever wished to, just standing there and talking to one of the students, so so casually. It can't be... But that would explain it.

They haven't been under the players control even the slightest bit, because the player is here. And... They're just a person? Yuu... Yuu can't quite explain it, but they get a small sense of relief when they see them here. If they're here, then Yuu won't be under their control anymore.

It'll never erase what happened to Yuu, and they certainly don't want to face them. But... Yuu is free. ...maybe Ace wants to go to the diner with them again? Or a movie. Something normal. Yuu backs away from them, then turns and walks back to ramshackle. Their heart a little confused by how they feel.

But Yuu decides to just... Leave it be. It doesn't concern them anymore, and they doubt they could get vengeance on the player even if they tried. They saw how the students had treated them back then. So why make life harder for themselves? ...at least for now, maybe later they'll deal with it all. But not now, they don't have the energy.

On the way back, they run into Ace who was walking towards ramshackle. He looks glad when he notices them.

"Heya Yuu, good to see ya out and about~ what's the occasion?"

"There isn't any, and... I kinda hope it stays that way."

"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing. ...wanna go out again today?"

"Haha, I thought you'd never ask!"

Part 3.

[hey guys, author here! I'm not really certain about this one, but I hope it reads better to someone who hasn't been staring at it for the last hour or so haha. This is the second to last chapter, so I had to rush some stuff for as long as my motivation lasted lolol. By at always, please remember to drink some water and get some rest, and have a great rest of your day!]

Yuu, Ace, Deuce, and Grim narrowly managed to avoid being expelled. Having dealt with that inky monster in the mines, and then the hEaDmAgE. But at this point, it's really the least of their concerns. Except for Deuce, I actually think that Was his main concern...

But nevertheless, that evening Yuu had hoped to get some rest while the screen wasn't controlling them. After all they're apparently a student now, yaayyyyy.... Only for the screen to show up too late at night to even be called night anymore.

Early the next day, Ace showed up on their doorstep like a sad wet cat. Only if the cat had purposefully jumped into a puddle, knowing exactly the dang consequences. For once Yuu didn't mind that screen controlling them, this is hilarious!

Oh they are so gonna laugh their ass off when they get back to bed. ...bed. shit, right! They still gotta get some sleep! Oh Ace is definitely paying them back with energy drinks in the morning. Yuu will need them if they wanna get through the day at this rate.

After the extremely unsuccessful attempt at an apology to Ace's housewarden, Yuu supposes it's time to actually be a student. They've got the title now... Oh okay, these classes seem relatively normal. Yuu had expected to not understand a single word of the classes, but the screen is here, so it'll probably make them say the right stuff. Yuu shouldn't need to worry.

...these classes are complete madness... As soon as the introductions and things were done, the entire class order just changed!? And what's with the weird imbalance of people being called on? It's mostly the same person in the front. Is this normal here? Everyone looks so uncomfortable with this...

Oh great, the screen is watching everyone. Just what Yuu needed during their first day as a student here. ...sigh, today is gonna be a long day.

The prefect looks stressed out... Eh, who could blame 'em? Those classes were chaotic to say the very least. Well, aint like Ace can do anything about that. But everyone else seemed so lost, it was priceless!

In any case, I guess today he'll have to find some way to ...apol- *gag* apologi- *cough choke*... Get the housewarden to let him back in the dorm. Yeah. And if that doesn't take too long, maybe they all can have that talk about the screen by the end of the day. That sounds good.

To say that happened would be a bold faced lie. Yuu has been busy the past few days, since the screen is forcing them to help Ace out with the problem he caused himself. Then to help with that monster thing Riddle had turned into! Why!? During the attack, Riddle had tried to grab the screen, but it disappeared when he got too close.

And for some reason, Yuu remembers fighting Riddle more than once, and losing most of the time. Alongside people who absolutely were not in the garden??? Yuu... Doesn't want to think about the implications that has.

They've finally gotten a moments peace, and are sitting on a bench in the courtyard under an apple tree. They had tried to take one of the apples yesterday, but the headmage had suddenly popped up and berated them.

For now Yuu is just waiting for Ace and Deuce to show up so they can figure out what's happening. Three heads are Probably better than one. And besides that, even though Yuu can tell some others can see the screen, they only trust Ace and Deuce right now.

"Yo prefect, what're you sulking for? Did you think we wouldn't come~"

Ace has a teasing expression on his face as he walks towards them, and Deuce looks like he's tired of Ace acting like that, but his expression changes to a smile as he waves at Yuu

"Hey Yuu! Sorry for being late, we were busy helping Cater paint the roses for another unbirthday party in a week. They apparently happen pretty often!"

Yuu sighs when they see them, but smiles back. Tilting their head as they look at them

"Yeah, no worries. I wasn't waiting long. And, I wasn't sulking??? That's just my face. I was thinking about stuff."

"Ah yes, stuff. how descriptive! guess you just look sour normally, don't worry Yuu, I won't hold it against you~"

Ace sits down on the bench, and winks at Yuu, still teasing them. He leans over to nudge their shoulder, but Yuu stands up and he falls onto the bench.

"Hey, what was that for?! Haha."

Deuce shakes his head as Ace sits up again, then they all sit down. Knowing they need to actually talk about what they came here for.

"So... Back when we went to the mines, was I just imagining it about that screen saying my name?"

Yuu's expression turns serious as they turn to him, looking into his eyes. As a humanoid android floats past them casually.

"I don't think so, I definitely heard it too. They said something like "so glad I got a Deuce card" or whatever. It was weird... I hadn't heard the screen talk before."

"Huh, maybe we're in a card game! Bet loosey Deucey over here is one of the weakest cards~"

"I am not! And stop calling me that!"

Yuu sighs as they hear this, shaking their head as the humanoid floats past them again.

"Please don't yell, you're giving me a headache..."

The humanoid floats back nearby, pretty conspicuous as they listen in from the other side the apple tree behind them. They slowly stop talking to turn and look at him, a confused expression on their faces as Yuu talks

"...who are you?"

The humanoid perks up and smiles at them, waving and floating around to be in front of them

"Hihi, I'm Ortho Shroud! It's nice to meet you!"

Ace looks annoyed as he narrows his eyes at Ortho, obviously suspicious

"Why are you even here? We are having a private conversation."

"I'm on a spy mission! I didn't expect you to notice me so quickly haha."

Ortho laughs as they are left completely in disbelief, was he spying on Them? Why??? And... Are spies meant to reveal they're spies? Yuu eventually speaks again, their voice incredulous

"Why in the world are you spying on us?! We haven't done anything!"

"That's what all bad guys say! Haha I actually wasn't spying on you guys though!"

"Likely story! You've gone past us twice, and were hiding behind a tree to listen in!! Geez dude, at least try and be believable if you're gonna lie..."

"It's the truth! I was trying to spy on the screen that follows the prefect around sometimes! My brother wanted me to find out more about it. And based on your conversation, I think I know what it is!"

The others somehow look more shocked, what in the world is happening??? And who even is this guy!? But Yuu really needs answers... This screen can't keep controlling them! They jump up and grab Ortho by the shoulders, looking a little frantic.

"You know what it is... Tell me! Tell me right now!"

"Gahh!! I will, don't shake me!"

"...sorry. but please, I really need to know."

"That's okay! Based on my theory, I think we're in a gacha game!"

"...a what?"

"A gacha game! Where you get cards of the characters from pulls? Don't tell me none of you have played one before!?"

Ortho looks shocked while the others have varying degrees of disbelief on their face. Obviously not understanding or believing a word he says. Eventually Deuce speaks up.

"...a game, are you seriously saying we're in a game?"

"It's just a guess, my brother has a lot of games like that, and they usually have things like "character cards" or something similar. And there's the fact you heard them through a screen! Doesn't that sounds like something straight out of a anime? It's so cool!"

"Absolutely not!! Are you telling me this is all just a game!?"

Ace sounds almost upset, angry at the thought his suffering earlier was just for a video game.

"I mean, probably not? There's a higher chance that it just looks like a game from the players side. That's how it usually works in these sorts of stories! But I'll need to investigate more in order to figure it out completely. Can I please keep spying on you?"

Yuu looks frozen, standing completely still. A game? Their life is just a game? And... Behind that screen, is a player, who's controlling them... Why? WHY!? WHAT'D THEY DO TO DESERVE THAT!? The others notice Yuu's state, and Ace eventually stands up and shakes their shoulder

"Hey! Twisted wonderland to Yuu? You good?"

"...do I seem good?"

Yuu's voice is bitter as Ortho floats back away from them. Leaving for now.

"You seem pretty shaken, I'll ask again later, okay? I need to go tell my brother about this."

Yuu stands there for a couple hours. Thinking. Ace and Deuce eventually leave, telling Yuu they'll see them again later before walking away. Meanwhile Yuu is left there alone.

A game... It makes sense, but Yuu doesn't want to believe it. The thing controlling them is just a "player" controlling a "character". Are... Are they even real? What an elaborate nightmare this is... Why can't they wake up? Please let them just wake up! WAKE UP!

But Yuu doesn't wake up, not as they go back to ramshackle. Or when grim jumps to their shoulder from the table and pokes their face. His voice impatient as he asks for, no, Demands tuna. Or when they go to sleep again in this Dream. Or when they wake up and still are in the dusty room in ramshackle.

...this dream isn't going to end, is it? They're stuck here until the end. That thought fills them with dread and hopelessness. ...they miss their home. And they Hate the player that's keeping them here. They need to get rid of them somehow. Then, they'll be free.

Part 2.

[author here! just finished this chapter this morning. There's like two moments in it that I feel satisfied about, but I really hope you all like it! I've rewritten this too many times to read it again lolol. And as before, remember to get some water and rest! And have a great rest of your day!!]

Now to say Yuu expected to wake up and still be in twisted wonderland would've been a complete and utter lie, and yet here we are. With a cat thing sleeping on their face. Technically Yuu brought that one on themselves. But regardless!

In better news, Yuu hasn't seen that weird screen thing yet, so maybe it's gone for good? And oh shit they jinxed it... It showed up as soon as they started the janitor stuff Crowley asked them to do. Well at least it's controlling them so they don't have to do the job themselves in a way. So small wins.

Who the frick frack apple jack is this dude? ...oh, oh damn. If Yuu wasn't restrained by that screen behind them, they'd totally go for the throat right now. Literally, not metaphorically. What's this Ace dude so smug about!? You're lording over them because they don't know your little statues?!

...oh it's going down as soon as this stupid screen is gone. And believe Yuu when they- oh DAGNABBIT the cat is setting stuff on fire again! And... Is the screen laughing? Yuu's certain they can hear that weird screen laughing.

...why'd that Ace kid stop? He's looking over here now. Why's he looking at them? He's acting so weird now? Wait a sec, he's not looking at Yuu, he's looking at the screen! He can see the screen! Yuu knew they weren't going crazy!

Hey, no pretending you didn't see it! Stop it! Oh if Yuu could control themselves right now, they'd shake this smug jerk until he confessed! He definitely saw it! Why... Why won't he just say something...? Geez, as if Yuu needed more reasons to dislike the guy.

Now the headmage is here, gReAt. Just what this day needed. ...one hundred windows?! Oh that damn screen better be here to do it for them still. This sucks! At least Ace will have to do it too...

Maybe Yuu will get a chance to ask him about the screen! He definitely saw it, Yuu just needs confirmation they aren't crazy. Plus, maybe this brat can give them some more info about this place. He at least knew a lot about those statue dudes.

Oh, the screen is gone again... But so are Crowley and Ace. Dagnabbit! Now Yuu will actually need to do the janitor stuff. At least it ain't all bad though, they've got a good lead with the screen.

As Yuu continues planning out how to deal with this turn of events, they pick up leaves from the ground and set them in front of grim, where he promptly sets them on fire as the ashes scatter to the wind. Other students passing by notice this, but don't call it out. Yuu's face is surprisingly intimidating while they're thinking...

As Ace got out of class, he was still thinking about that weird face he saw in the screen behind the magicless kid. When he heard that laughter, he had looked up to see where it came from, only to notice the screen for the first time. But, was it there before he had noticed it? He doesn't think he'd miss something like that.

In any case, it's not like it matters anymore. He ain't gonna clean those windows if he gets the choice. They're janitors anyway, they should be used to this. Might as well just hide in heartslabyul, he doubts that they'd be able to find him as long as he went to his room. That place is a labyrinth.

No no no!! How did they find him!? Kay, just gotta go through the mirror and...! Gah! OW!! What the heck just hit him?! It's impossible to climb out from under this thing! Oh Ace is so going to get whoever did this to him!

Huh? Oh it's that juice guy from orientation! He was weirdly eager for all of this stuff, makes sense he'd be a goody-two-shoes who'd butt into things he ain't a part of! Geez, there goes his okay first day.

...the screen is still there. It keeps looking between them, turning slightly. He can't move like he'd want to when it's on him. Does this kid actually have magic? Don't they know it's against the rules to use magic without permission? Hmph, this is getting more and more frustrating.

Oh great, now they're looking at him like they wanna kill him. What'd he do!? Oh right... Well anyway, it's their fault if they can't take a joke. In any case, this is so stupid!! Why can't he say any of this?! He's going to have a nice long Talk with this janitor when he can control himself again.

Huh? Oh yeah! That weasel thing disappeared! He definitely isn't gonna let that weasel out of the work if he has to do it! CATCH HIM!

Well that could have gone better. Oh yeah, laugh it up screen thing. So glad you're enjoying his misery! Hmph, rude. Now they have to go to a abandoned mine to get a replacement magestone, and he still can't control his own body! It wasn't even his fault this time!

This day can't get any worse.

aaaaaAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! WHY'S THERE A MONSTER IN HERE!? Great! Now they're fighting it! This is exactly how he wanted his day to go!! Huh? Geez Deuce, this is NOT the time to freeze up!

...what's he looking at? Huh? Can he see the screen? He was acting like he couldn't before... NOT THE TIME!! HE CAN ASK HIM LATER!

"...so gl-d I -ot that D-uce -ard..."

What? Was that... From the screen? That didn't sound like Yuu's voice. Is there someone else in there? Yuu and Deuce definitely heard that too, but not Grim? That's... That's something he can worry about later. For now, they just need to run!

Deuce breathes a sigh of relief, flopping down onto the grass outside of the mine. He's clutching the new magestone tightly in his hand, with a happy smile on his face. But... He's still confused. He saw something in the mine, and heard it. Behind Yuu.

Didn't they say his name? that... That can be worried about later. For now, he's just so relieved he's not gonna get expelled! They just have to get this to the headmage, and it'll all be good!

Huh now that's he's thinking about it, the screen's gone now... Oh, and Ace is pulling him to the side?

"Hey, you saw that screen too, right?"

"Um... What? Yeah, do you know what it is?"

Ace sighs and shakes him head, glancing at Yuu who's walking towards them.

"No clue, but if anyone has answers, it'll be them."

Yuu grabs Ace by the shoulders, and shakes him a few times with an annoyed expression.

"You saw it too! Why didn't you say anything back then!?"

"Geez! What'd I do!?"

Ace puts his hands up in surrender, looking annoyed at Yuu. To which Yuu just looks more annoyed.

"What didn't you do!?"

"That's rich from the person who's been controlling us with a screen!"

Yuu looks shocked, and absolutely indignant at that accusation.

"I ain't controlling it! It's been controlling me! I honestly thought I was crazy when I first saw it. I wanted to ask you about it to see if you recognized it, since I saw you noticing it earlier!"

"...fine, I guess that makes sense. but if you aren't the one controlling it, then who is?"

Deuce has just been standing there this whole time, hopelessly lost.

"What are you talking about? Controlling people? This feels like a fever dream..."

Yuu sighs, sounding tired.

"Yeah, I'm not completely convinced it isn't one. But in any case, at least know I know I'm not going crazy. Maybe we can figure something out now."

"Yeah, like what? Ask the screen politely to leave us alone? Haaa, this situation is so weird..."

Ace shakes his head, shrugging his shoulders. He looks a little defeated as he talks, before glancing over and noticing grim walking towards them.

"Y'know what, let's just talk about this later. The weasel hasn't seen the screen yet, might as well not drag him into this."

Deuce stands up straighter, holding the magestone close to his chest as he looks over everything.

"Yeah, let's talk later. But for now... Let's get this magestone to the headmage!"

Ace nods. And even though Yuu would've wanted to talk more right now, they nod as well. They can only hope everyday isn't going to be like this... Yuu doesn't think they could take it.

The Game That Is Life.

Part 1.

[authors note. hope this works! This is the first technical chapter of the little series I made in my notes app. But the other one will tie into it later on, just a little bit. If you're reading this, please remember to drink some water and get some rest if you need it! And have a great rest of your day!]

Of all the things Yuu had expected to wake up to, it was not feral laughter outside of a sealed box. And then consequently flames, and a weird talking cat/raccoon/weasel/tanuki thing staring at them as they fell out of their box.

Looking back, Yuu saw the coffin. And the glowing glass screen. Both were new. But Yuu didn't get the pleasure to linger on those things, since the cat now seemed be attacking them. And despite Yuu wanting to pick the thing up by the scruff on its neck, and throw it into the next time zone. Their body moved on its own, and they ran.

But no matter how fast they ran, they could not outrun (the demon, but they would not let their soul be taken today!) the fire cat, or that screen thing that's been there this whole time, following them silently. It's seriously creeping Yuu out.

When Yuu got to what is probably a library, the cat that called itself "Grim" finally caught up with them. Panting slightly, but quickly standing up straight and puffing out it's chest

"Mrah! I finally caught you human! Now give me those robes!!"

Now believe me, Yuu did want to say something, and they tried to. But something kept them from it, an invisible string maybe? A hidden pair of hands holding them back? Either way, that didn't matter. All the mattered was Yuu couldn't respond, even if they tried with all their might.

And yet... Yuu did respond. That was their voice. They could hear it, it was definitely them. What in the world is going on!? They didn't say that! Why'd they sound so wimpy?! It's just a cat! Yuu... wouldn't say that, why can't they control their mouth?

Having had that realization, Yuu quickly came to a couple others within the span of a few moments. One, they couldn't move. Now that they're conscious of it, it feels like they can't snap back to their body properly again. They can just watch the conversation they're supposed to be a part of, continuing without them.

Two, they can hear... Something. from behind that screen that's been following them, or maybe inside the screen? They aren't quite sure of the specifics, and they don't want to know. This all feels like a nightmare, and they just need to wake up already!

But they can't seem to wake up, not as a strange man walks towards them and starts talking. Not as this man with an annoying way of speaking answers the questions "Yuu" is asking. Not as they walk back to that room with the coffins. Not even while that weird mirror "examined their soul" or whatever.

They only managed to "wake up" into the dream again, once the headmage had dropped them off at ramshackle and they'd dealt with Grim again. And some ghosts? Anyway, after that... The screen behind them disappeared, and they regained their control. And geez, Yuu hadn't realized how annoying it was to not be in control of their own body.

Why can't they just wake up already? This nightmare has gone on long enough. But no matter how hard they pinch themselves, they just can't seem to wake up.

Grim notices them acting strangely, and walks over. He has a smug smile on his face.

"Heh, shoulda known you'd be in shock after I named you my henchhuman! But no need to pinch yourself, I promise it's real! Myahaha, ain't I nice? Don't worry about appearances, you can thank me all you want!"

As he spoke, he jumped up on the bookshelf nearby, and stood up tall to be at eye level with Yuu. His face still smug as he places his paws on his side. But Yuu couldn't care less about the gremlin cat right now. They just look back at grim before realizing something. Maybe they could learn something from Grim, now that they can actually talk! Even though the cat didn't seem all that... Bright, while he was talking.

"Grim, that's your name right? ...did you see that screen thing floating behind me earlier?"

Yuu needs to know they weren't just hallucinating that screen thing, especially since it felt like that was the thing keeping them from controlling their own body.

"Huh? What're ya talkin' about? There's nothing behind you."

He tilts his head, looking confused at Yuu's question. Did he get a crazy henchhuman? Heh, that's fine. Since he'll be kind enough to keep them! The great Grim will just have to make them the perfect henchhuman!!

"I meant earlier... Did you seriously not notice it? It was right there."

"Nope! You were probably seeing things, since the great Grim would never miss something like that!"

"...sigh..."

"Hey! What's that for!? I'm bein' super nice here!"

Grim continued complaining for a few minutes, but Yuu just tuned it out, trying to think about this. It at least confirmed their suspicion. It Was weird no one mentioned anything, so I guess it was just something Yuu could see?

they'll have to figure this out soon... But for now, I guess they'll just get some sleep. Seriously, what time is it? Why would a school ever hold orientation so late!? And besides that, they'll probably just wake up in their bed at home. ...let's hope so at least.

Yuu picks Grim up by the scruff of his neck just like they wanted to when they first met him, and start carrying him towards the bedroom they'd picked out earlier while Yuu was still being controlled.

Grim is struggling in indignation, but Yuu doesn't care. It's a fluffy cat, and as much as they don't want to deal with the sass, they need the fluff right now... Grim eventually relents. And they both go to the bedroom, heading to sleep.

...Yuu struggles to sleep that night. There's a draft in their room, and the bed feels like it still has a layer of dust on it. And too many questions left unanswered, with too much chaos for their liking. But, at least it's all over.

The Game That Is Life.

Prologue.

[Hey quick authors note, this is my first fic lolol. Hopefully it worked out well, and I already have a few other chapters mostly done in my notes app. So... Yay! I've always loved self aware au's, but been a bit too nervous to post my own. Hopefully it read right, and please enjoy the fic! And of course remember to drink some water and get some rest!!! Btw, this can work as a stand-alone fic. It just ties in a little bit in the last/fourth chapter]

Ramshackle is the same as always, not metaphorically, it's completely static. Same cobwebs, same torn curtains, same everything.

By now, you'd think Yuu would be used to it. They stay here most of the time the player isn't controlling them. But even "blank slates" get tired every now and again.

They've tried going to see their friends, but it's really not worth going out of their way anymore. It's not like the others even consider them as a real friend.

"Friends" constantly looking beyond them, constantly wishing it was the player that was here, and not them. It gets under your skin after awhile.

At least Grim seems to care, even if it's through bribes of tuna. It's better than the others. But even Grim has gotten entranced by this... "Player" person.

Yuu is here now! Why can't any of them see that!? But no. It's constantly player this and player that! "Oh the player cares so much, even though they think we're only game characters!" Absolutely pathetic, all of them!

Maybe they just need to get the player out of the picture...

Grim was lounging in ramshackle, also bored out of his mind. Yuu has been acting weirdly recently, they haven't given him any tuna for a week!!! Geez, talk about selfish. It's not like he's worried about them!

But... Eh, he should probably go and visit them. They are his henchhuman after all! What kinda boss would he be if he didn't check up on them once in awhile? They're probably in their room again. ...it's been lonely since they switched to a different room than his...

Huh?! Why'd the human lock the door!? No one locks the great grim out! Hmph.

"HENCHHUMAN! OPEN THE DOOR!!"

Fine then, he'll just have to show off his amazing climbing skills!

(Forty six minutes later...)

GAHHH!! WHY'S THE WINDOW SO HIGH UP!? Ah... He'll have to ask his henchhuman to get a first floor room later... Ahhhhhh...

(Another twelve and a half minutes later. The ghosts finally managed to stop laughing long enough to remind him about the ladder in the storage room.)

Finally! Now too see why they weren't opening the door! ...huh? What in the world are they doing??? Is that a cutout of the players home screen character? ...geez Yuu, sometimes he's embarrassed to be your boss...

Wait a second, don't get sidetracked! Why's his henchhuman ignoring him! What?! Are they seriously ignoring him to write a note or somethin'?! Hmph! If that's how it's gonna be, then he'll just ignore them then! See how they like it! Now how to get... Down... HUH?!!? Did they tape the players screen to the wall behind that cut out!? Oh no... That ain't good...! MraaaahhhhhHHHHHH!!!!!

Yuu looks over just in time to notice the tail end of... Well, a tail. Plummeting to the ground in ramshackle garden. But honestly they've had too many energy drinks and too little sleep to care, they'll deal with that in the morning...

You're logging into twisted wonderland for the first time today, the login bonus flashing on your screen. With a little visual glitch? No character there, and an empty text box. But hey, it's a cool screenshot, so why would you care? Lol.

Speaking of glitches though, there's another one on your home screen. The character doesn't talk, doesn't move, doesn't do anything. A lot like a paper doll. And the background is a ramshackle bedroom.

You're unable to click anything even if you tried, only for a pop up to appear on the screen. But it appears more like a handwritten note than a regular update notice. And... Is that tape on the edges?

"Dear player, I'm afraid you cannot come back. It's very personal honestly. Not sorry, you can just delete it :) Thanks -Yuu"
