human enough challenge: 10
Realising that life is too short, Tomoki decided to go ahead and propose to Thi.
She accepted, of course!
It turns out they both had big secrets they needed to discuss before considering actually getting married. Tomoki showed Thi his kappa form, and Thi told him about her career: it turns out she's a spy.
Neither secret was a dealbreaker and they were still madly in love.
Poor Tomoki was still devastated by the death of the elder Nishidakes.

Tragically, Shigeru passed away. Tomoki went over immediately and helped clean up the house a bit.
That evening, Sachiko followed her husband to the other side. Tomoki was devastated. They'd been like parents to him, helping and guiding him when he was lost in the human world.
I tried VERY hard to make a japanese funeral setting but everything went wrong. Some items disappeared. The guests all showed up dressed very, er, eccentrically. Nothing went well! Let's just pretend it happened off-screen.

Tomoki became a young adult and discovered that he'd changed a lot since he'd met Yuki. She, too, had changed. What they now looked for in a partner was very different from what they'd seen in each other. It was time to part ways. Theirs was an amicable split, but Tomoki was glad he'd followed Kaori's advice about not revealing his true nature to Yuki. It certainly made their break-up a whole lot cleaner.
At the bar, Tomoki ran into a tourist. They soon got to talking. Tomoki discovered that her name was Thi Linh, she was from Tomarang, and her job was a boring and normal one. Their chemistry was incredible and they had an impromptu date. It was love at first sight!
A new girlfriend was not the only major change in Tomoki's life. He found a new job as a conservationist and it suited him well. Maybe this was his chance to protect the river. If nothing else, it meant a good excuse to explore Mt. Komorebi.
Tomoki and Thi went on yet another date and it went very well!

The Nishidakes were still very enthusiastic about teaching Tomoki how to cook, even if he mostly seems to be sprinkling pepper all over their counters.
He finally decided to reveal his true nature to Sachiko and Kaori. The latter seemed more interested in the snow outside.
Between fishing and his part-time jobs, Tomoki's bank account improved.
He could finally afford to build himself a home, which is really just a basic shack. At least he no longer needs to be afraid of thunderstorms!
This was very timely, too, since Mt. Komorebi was hit by a particularly bad blizzard that season.
Having a house came with its own responsibilities. Tomoki didn't immediately get the hang of them.

Tomoki had to contend with human adolescent hormones. He went through a whole phase that seemed to make him break down crying for no particular reason.
One day, he received a phone call from his school. His grades were so good, he could graduate early. Of course he said yes. He kept his part-time job at a café, got another one, and still found time for his hobbies and skills. He spontaneously decided to research the plants he'd been growing.
Playing on a pile of leaves!
If he wanted to ask out his crush, he'd have to polish his social skills a bit. That meant reading a lot about human dating habits.
It was just in time, too. During an outing with friends to the Snow Festival, Yuki asked Tomoki on a date!
To say it went well would be an understatement.
They had a truly great date and Tomoki celebrated by being a dork.
Emboldened by his success, Tomoki tried his hand (foot?) at snowboarding. He didn't do too badly!

Summer was over and the weather became very cold very fast. It was also the first day of school...
Who should he meet but the blue-haired mystery girl, Yuki Behr? He finally had the chance to introduce himself properly.
Sadly, she immediately figured out he was not a human and had to have her memory wiped.
Tomoki wept, crying into the locker he hadn't yet redecorated.
He spent the whole day moping.
At least they hung out after school and quickly became friends. Tomoki decided to keep at a safe distance, just in case she figured out his secret once again.
(Sadly, school gameplay is doing pretty badly in my game. I even downloaded a Japanese school and stuff, but I guess it's not meant to be. This means it's the last we'll see of Tomoki's school days.)

Encouraged by Shigeru, Tomoki set about studying so he could attend a human school. That very Friday, he accomplished his goal!
He'd planned on spending the weekend resting and preparing, but things ended up being more eventful than he expected.
First, his new BFF Kaori invited him to the spice festival where he failed the eating challenge and spent way too much money on souvenirs.
Then, he attended the Festival of Light.
He spent the last of his money on taiyaki.
Excitingly, he also had the chance to meet a local supernatural entity, the famous Yamachan. According to Tomoki's observations, Yamachan is revered by humans and appears to be some sort of mountain spirit.
Tomoki was exhausted and about to go to sleep when a burglar showed up. What is there to steal on his lot? Did she just really want a sleeping bag?
Confronting her did absolutely nothing. Tomoki learnt that humans are more afraid of you if you're a kappa than if you're a teenage boy.
He wiped his memory and they parted on good terms. What a nice lady!
Bonus picture: Tomoki learns a shocking lesson.

To celebrate his newfound social abilities, Tomoki went on an outing with Shigeru and his wife Sachiko. The timing was very fortunate because he was able to buy a few different outfits, though getting the hang of human clothes was another matter.
He also did not get the hang of playing this game...
Unfortunately but cutely, the Nishidakes spent the whole evening being lovey-dovey away from everyone.
Tomoki went home exhausted and smelly but happy. That is, until he had to engage in a power struggle with a vending machine in an attempt to have breakfast.
Later that day, he spotted a blue-haired girl. His heart swelled. He discovered romantic attraction. Could he really feel this way about a human? Alas, he would not get a chance to find out that day, as some random tourist decided to rope him into an entirely one-sided conversation.
He got up the courage to visit the Nishidakes.
Tragically, Shigeru expressed his suspicions that Tomoki might not be fully human, and his memory had to be wiped. The same had happened on the evening of the festival with Sachiko. At least Tomoki and Shigeru became close again very quickly.
Thanks to Shigeru's guidance, Tomoki learnt some of the basics of cooking!
Things were going well enough that he finally felt confident about telling Shigeru the truth. They'd been having some deep conversations about old age and regrets.
"This is who I really am."
"Alright then, have a sweet."
(Occult forms in my game are still borked so the yellow on Tomoki's beak has vanished. Grr.)

human enough challenge: 2
Maybe being a human wouldn't be so bad, right? Sadly, Tomoki's optimism would be short lived.
He headed to an onsen where he took a bath in the way all humans do. Fortunately, Mt. Komorebians are very understanding types who didn't judge this weird tourist on his behaviour.
Having slept lightly on a random bench, Tomoki was exhausted and kept falling asleep.
He tried to cheer himself up by practicing some human dance moves.
It took Tomoki (aka me) a while to discover there was a bench near his home, so he just had to settle for sleeping on the ground.
He woke up in the middle of the night, feeling hungry, and discovered this machine would NOT hand over the protein bar he'd bought.
The next day, Tomoki was feeling sadder and more exhausted than ever. He felt lonely. He wished he understood how to communicate with humans, at least.
Walking past a food stall, he saw something called "kappa maki" and was naturally intrigued. They turned out to be cucumber rolls, which he greatly enjoyed, though they made him feel homesick.
He also tried to research humans by watching TV. It turned out that they were capable of falling in love and forming families, though his research indicated that this included the frequent appearance of evil twins.
He was lucky enough to fish up some gems and a future cube and was finally able to afford a bedroll! It made him feel cosy and safe, something he sorely missed.

Cool as a cucumber: a Human Enough challenge
I'm back but a lot of my current gameplay is borked due to all the bugs so I decided to go ahead and do a challenge.
It's the Human Enough challenge by @squeamishsims! I decided to try a world I haven't played in that much yet so I picked Mt. Komorebi and rather than an alien, the main Sim is a kappa. Maybe I'll do a similar thing for other worlds? Who knows!
This young kappa tragically lost his family to river pollution. Trying to survive, he swam as far upstream as he could.
Inspired by the tales of a great-grandmother of his, he decided to live as a human for a while. Maybe he'd be able to protect this particular river. Maybe he'd just survive.
He armed himself with things stolen from bathers along the way and chose the human name of Tomoki Kawako. After a mere few minutes as a human teenager, he was already fiddling around on his smartphone. When in Rome...
At a loss for something to do and getting rather pecking, Tomoki wandered around town and did some fishing.
At a local bar, he locked himself in the bathroom and attempted to practice the human facial expressions and interactions he'd witnessed.
It was then time for some fishing and some awkward words exchanged with nearby humans, who kept trying to greet him.
Tomoki discovered that humans had shiny machines that gave you food! After selling his catch, he decided to try these strange human delicacies.
His first human food was something called a "sandwich" and he enjoyed it. It did not compare to the deliciousness of the protein bar he also tried.
He promptly found a place to sleep, settling down on a bench.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. His first day as a human had gone pretty smoothly and things seemed promising.

I made this Sim whose goal is to make her cat Oddity famous so everyone will appreciate how great he is. One of the first things she did was stand on the middle of the street and get stuck praising him several times in a row. Understandable!

I love the Cottage Living bunnies so much.
Wanda is not above feeding from other Sims, but a downside of living in a remote cottage is the lack of random passersby. Since plasma foods are still broken in my game, Wanda has been experimenting with other ways of having a daytime snack.
One good thing about vampire foods making her sick: she got the Uncomfortable cowplant essence for her collection!
Rory called and asked Wanda on a date. Wanda was just about to leave for work, but she called Rory back later. I thought their date was very awkward but they didn't think so, since it earned Wanda a gold medal. Mkay.
After the date, Wanda had to meet Trashley. She only managed to acquire a bunch of boxes inside boxes... no cool raccoon art, sadly.

Unfortunately, costumers were increasingly sick after eating anything at the business. It could be because some individuals were blatantly misusing the mini bubble tea counter to order nonsense like burgers.
However, even the ones eating plasma dishes as intended were throwing up all over the place. Why? How?
Wanda had to test various dishes and they all went wrong. My game has decided to make plasma food incompatible with vampires, even dishes that were working just fine before. Why? We just don't know.
In conclusion, I hate this game.

Sir, this is a vampires-only business, you're a donkey.
Also not a vampire.

Wanda decided to turn her barn into a little teahouse for vampires, featuring two different types of plasma tea.
Caleb Vatore is THE WORST. He showed up just before closing time to replace the tea with green tea and help himself to some (free) leftovers.
