The Indian Removal Act of 1830
THE INDIAN REMOVAL ACT OF 1830 Migdalia Tuero HIST101: American History to 1877 Professor Kathleen Davis February 13, 2014 There are several historical events and issues that have impacted the contemporary political development among American history. In the history of America one of these groups are the Native Americans. The white man throughout the South called for a removal of the Indian peoples. They wanted the Native Indians to be resettled to the west because their presence created a problem for the white man who needed additional land for settlement. âThe status of Native American peoples posed an equally complex political problemâ (Henretta, Edwards, Self 2012, 302). Therefore, Andrew Jackson posed the Indian RemovalâŚshow more content⌠However, President Andrew Jackson wanted to take the land and move the Indians out West therefore, the government ignored their efforts and the federal treaties previously signed. âThe Supreme Court declared that Congress had complete constitutional authority over Indian affairs and could abrogate or break its own treatiesâ (Calloway, 2012, p. 436). So instead of protecting the Native American Indians and their land according to the treaties signed by both parties, the United States government decided to take it from them. Jackson then sent troops to expel the Indians from their lands. One tribal Chief Black Hawk offered to surrender to Jackson however; Jackson rejected this offer and continued to send in American troops to pursue âhim into the Wisconsin Territory and, in the brutal eight-hour Bad Axe Massacre, killed 850 of Black Hawkâs 1,000 warriorsâ (Henretta et al. 2012, 303). This was not the end of it however, the bloodshed continued when Jackson maintained the Indian removal process. The Federal government drove thousands of Indians to walk over 1,200 miles to the new Indian Territory. During the walk to their new territory the American Indians suffered through devastating times. They suffered sickness such as the whooping cough, typhus, dysentery, cholera and, starvation, these were all epidemics along the way. In this removal nearly 125,000 Native American Indians were forced to leave their ancestral lands that they had cultivated Read the full article

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission
A persistent state of stagnation has plagued the creation of low-level nuclear waste disposal sites for nearly three decades. To date, there are only four licensed facilities capable of accepting, storing, and disposing low-level waste in the United States (NRC 2015a). As an independent agency created by Congress in 1974, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulates the creation and management of commercial low-level waste sites through licensing, inspection, and enforcement of its requirements. Due to the apparent lack of new disposal sites, a closer analysis of the NRCâs licensing requirements is needed. Is the current policy conducive to expansionary facilities in other parts of the nation? Are the technical and financial requirements established by the NRC for commercial facilities too steep to allow the creation of new facilities, creating a natural monopoly? In addressing these issues, the following analysis examines the NRCâs current policy compared to proposed alternatives using empirical and theoretical analyses. Finally, the goal and the final policy recommendation of this analysis is ultimately in line with the NRCâs overarching strategic values: safety and security. Â Case Description The definition of low-level waste is negative. Meaning, commercial radioactive wastes that do not fall under the category for high-level wastes, or uranium and thorium milling wastes, are classified as low-level radioactive waste (NRC 2015c). The low-level wastes can Read the full article

A developmental model of supervision
Supervision Plan A developmental model of supervision will be the best fit for this organization. As for this model, the participants in the program are consistently growing; hence, the program will factor the interaction patterns and outcomes to enhance collaborative approaches towards achieving better patient outcomes (Burns, 2014). The application of this model will help the supervisory work to note areas that require improvements while reinstating areas of strength. According to the theory author, Stoltenberg, and Delworth (1987), the eight growth areas include intervention, competence, skills, assessment technique, individual differences, client conceptualization, theoretical orientation, professional ethics, and treatment goals and plans (Russell-Chapin & Chapin, 2019). The model acknowledges that helping counselors identify their strengths and growth areas enhances their ability to remain responsible for the prolonged career development as therapists and supervisors. The model will incorporate the supervision integrity to the Evidence-Based Interventions Coding System (SIEBI), which supports supervisors' utilization and competence in micro-skills delivery. The SIEBI captures items that describe the micro-skills necessary during supervision. The items are based on observational coding measures of therapy, self-report aspect of supervision, and observational coding. The coding items entail four evidence-based supervisory micro-skills: corrective feedback, modeling, role play, and evidence-based practice element (Bailin et al., 2018). Observational coding covers administrative tasks, supervisor self-disclosure, collaboration with the supervisee, recommending a therapeutic practice element, and corrective feedback, and role play (Bailin et al., 2018). The supervisory approach will ensure adherence to evidence-based therapeutic methods while embracing the exercise of patient autonomy, ensuring ethical consideration. Essay about The Three Mile Island Accident
The Three Mile Island Accident  When someone thinks of problems plaguing the world, nuclear energy is not the first thing that comes to peoples minds these days.Nuclear power was once deemed the new energy of the future. However, numerous nuclear power plant accidents around the world put a damper on that notion. The United States considers itself one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, but 103 nuclear reactors currently operating within her borders, one was bound to fail sometime or another.  Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Station is on an island that is located about 10 miles from the town of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The plant housed two nuclear reactors, Unit 1 and Unit 2.Now there is only one thatâŚshow more content⌠his led to the melting of the fuel and a drastic increase in radioactivity within the reactor coolant. This also resulted in leaks in the coolant system, which led to small amounts of radiation escaping into the environment.  This accident has been, by far the worst nuclear power plant accident within the borders of the United States. However, the studies conducted by governmental groups such as the Nuclear Regulatory Committee (NRC), the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Health, Department of Energy, and the State of Pennsylvania as well as numerous independent organizations have deemed that the accident at Three Mile Island had very little, if an at all, effects on the health of the communities surrounding the plant. Studies show that the estimated average dose of radiation to the approximated 2 million people in the vicinity of the accident was only about 1 millirem. In order to show how much this dosage is, the average chest x-ray eposes a person to about 6 millirems. Also, the people around the plant are exposed to about 100 millirems to begin with due to the natural environment they live in.  Also, there were studies done on the effects of the radiation released in to the environment due the accident. There were many samples of air, water, and vegetation taken by people who were monitoring the area, and none concluded that the accident caused damaging effects on the environment.  Since the accident, there have been many new regulations Read the full article

General Public Utilities Corporation
Three Mile Island Accident Study  1. Introduction Based on the NRC (1), the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant is a commercial nuclear plant where has two nuclear reactors (TMI-1 and TMI-2). General Public Utilities Corporation built the power plant and Metropolitan Edison Company ran and managed the plant. TMI-1 and TMI-2 reactors were pressurized water reactors; and their generated power were 802 MWe and 906 MWe respectively. TMI-2 had an accident on March 28, 1979, particularly, the reactor was melted and radioactivity was released to the outside of plant. Fortunately, there was no detectable effects on workers, public and surrounding environment due to radioactive release. However, the direct economic losses cause by this accidentâŚshow more content⌠The mechanical failure got the pilot-operated relief valve stuck, meanwhile the relief valve status showed in the control room was closed. Consequently, the coolant flowed out of reactor core through valve; and the temperature of reactor core was rising. As a result, they assumed that the water level was high in the reactor core and did not realize that the reactor was experiencing losing cooling water. The coolant pumps was switched off to protect themselves from the acute vibration. Furthermore, operators cut down the supply of emergency cooling to the reactor core. These series of action did not relieve the hazard, but made reactor into the dangerous situation. As a result of these actions, the reactor core suffered with overheating. Moreover, there was a crack on the zirconium cladding that was a cover for the nuclear fuel pellets. It led to that the nuclear fuel pellets starting to melt and flow out from the crack. Fortunately, the building where place the TMI-2 did not have any break, so it prevented workers and surrounding from strong and direct radioactivity.  3 hours later than the feed water pumps stopping working, the operators just realized that the reactor core had melted because of abnormal core temperature. Disaster Of Nuclear Generating Station
Abstract: In the early morning hours of 28th March 1979, the worst disaster in the history of nuclear energy production in the US took place. Unit Two of the Three Mile Island had a meltdown releasing some amount of radioactivity into the surrounding area. The meltdown led to the possibility of Unit 2 of the reactor facility to explode. The ramifications of the accident revealed the conceptual difficulties of assessing social risks and the political difficulties in managing them (Nelkin, March 1981).This paper aims at describing the accident, the post-accident setup and clean-up and the various losses which have been attributed to the disaster. It also intends to develop an understanding of the various complex issues and social vulnerabilities and risks that caused the disaster. The paper raises a very important question about the safety of the nuclear power plants in the world and the risk the reactors pose to the people and environment as a whole. Introduction: The Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station (TMI) is located in the Susquehanna River flowing in the south of Harrisburg Town in the state of Pennsylvania, U.S. The generating station comprises of two generating units TMI-1 and TMI-2. TMI-1 has a generating capacity of 852 MWe and the commercial operation began in 1974. Unit Two of the Three Mile Island Generating Station was similar in construction to Unit One. It was of a slightly higher capacity than Unit One and the generating capacity was 906 MWe. The Read the full article

The Second Nuclear Energy Plant
In March 2011, the Fukushima I Nuclear power Plant was hit by an enormous tsunami triggered by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Northeast Japan. The dysfunction of cooling system caused meltdown of three nuclear reactors; substantial amount of radiative materials was released to ocean and atmosphere. After this incident, several nations rethought the progress of nuclear energy and improved the safety of nuclear power plants. Including Germany, France, Belgium, and Spain, 9 out of 17 nations that have large numbers nuclear plants decided to phase out their usage of nuclear energy (Xu, Taiwan People News). Besides, on March 9, 2013, two hundred and twenty thousand citizens of Taiwan attended an environmental group organized anti-nuclear protest in front of the Presidential Office Building. This protest was a sensation, and became the opportunity of growing anti-nuclear movement in Taiwan. Under the pressure of foreign opinions and civic opposition, the policy on the fourth nuclear power plant is indecisive. However, considering varies difficulties that Taiwanese government facing today, the fourth nuclear power plant in Taiwan is necessary to be finished for economic, political, and environmental reasons. Essay On Nuclear Power Plants
Nuclear power plants have many great benefits. However, there are also many costs that the general public is very concerned with. These costs include nuclear accidents that lead to catastrophic harmful affects towards the public health and the environment when not careful. This is what makes it a very controversial subject on whether a large city, such as Houston, should rely on nuclear power plants for energy. So, what is nuclear energy and how do nuclear power plants work? Nuclear energy is the product of a neutron splitting a uranium atom. When this happens it produces a very large amount of energy. Then three neutrons from splitting apart a uranium atom then split other uranium atoms and produce even more energy. This process becomes self-sustaining as more atoms are split. The energy created is used to generate steam and the steam is able to spin turbines. When these turbines spin, they can create electricity. This process is similar to the traditional processes of forming energy. However, instead of generating steam, the other processes would burn fossil fuels in order spin the turbines. The burning of fossil fuels contributes to the increase of green house gas emissions, and this can be an environmental concern. This is why nuclear energy is considered a âcleanâ source of energy since it does not produce any greenhouse gasses. Nuclear power plants have actually become more common because of the benefits. In fact, the US has the largest overall generation of Get Access Read the full article

Marx 's Theory Of Socialism
Karl Marx was a philosopher, economist, sociologist, journalist and revolutionary socialist. Marx defined capital as a social, economic relation between people. In many of his writings, Marx had implied that revolutions within the proletarian society would be inevitable and the proletariat would become the ruling class all over the world (Kreis, S 2000) Marx proposed this theory of revolution based on Hegelian concepts of the dialectic. The philosophical and ideological aims put forward were to bring about his version of socialism, known as communism. During the winter of 1857 Marx produced an outline of his critique of the political economy in an unfinished manuscript called The Grundrisse (Fowkes, B 1997). Marx believed that deficiencies in the economy and social injustices inherent to capitalism would ultimately lead to the breakdown of capitalist societies. He predicted that this breakdown of the capitalist societies would ultimately give rise to communism. For Marx, identifying the fundamental contradictions of the capitalist system of production was the first step in hastening the downfall of what he saw as an unstable, unfair social system. Marx referred to the relationship between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat to one of inevitable conflict, in that the proletariat is systematically exploited under capitalism. Marx believed that labour is the only real source of wealth. Capital itself; "land factories, ports, railroads, etc.; represents simply stored labour, Read the full article

Manifesto Of The Communist Party
The Communist Manifesto, originally drafted as, âManifesto of the Communist Partyâ, is a pamphlet written by Karl Marx, that in essence reflects an attempt to explain the goals and objectives of Communism, while also explaining the concrete theories about the nature of society in relation to the political ideology. The Communist Manifesto breaks down the relationship of socio-economic classes and specifically identifies the friction between those classes. Karl Marx essentially presents a well analyzed understanding of class struggles and the issues concerning capitalism, the means and modes of production and how those means affect the classes as a whole. Â Every society is structured or designed with the intention to form social classes; classes that will determine the social mobility of each individual living within it. Within the social hierarchy, there is inevitably one class that essentially oppresses the others. The Communist Manifesto features The Bourgeoisie and The Proletarians, and explains that the relationship between the two classes is a common frictional relationship that has occurred countless times throughout history. It explains that the modern Bourgeoisie will eventually fall, due to their inability to maintain a lifestyle for the proletarians; which is ultimately caused by the instability of capitalism. Â The goals of Communism are clearly set forward in the process. Marx informs us that Communism is established to achieve 3 major things: to solidly form Read the full article

The Conflict Between Ralph And Jack
The conflict between Ralph and Jack shows how lack of civilization can result to savagery. Ralph states, âWe need sheltersâ contrasting to Jack who says, âWe need meatâ (Golding, p.42). The lack of civilization in Jack shows because he thinks hunting is more important than shelters although he has yet to catch a pig, while on the other hand Ralph thinks itâs more important to build shelter for a sense of home and protection from the rain and the beastie that all the littluns are afraid of. âLet him be chief with the trumpet-thingâ(Golding, p. 15). This quote states that Ralph should be in charge because he has the conch, and Jack gets upset since he is not voted chief but then Ralph puts him charge of the choir boys who later on become the hunters. Ralph creates civilization when he is given power to become the chief on the island, and he has the power with or without the conch. Later in the novel when Ralph realizes he doesnât like being dirty and âdisliked perpetually flicking the tangled hair put of his eyes,â it shows that Ralph is used the civilization he had before and wants to return to that civilization (Golding, p.66). Then Jack becomes an example of savagery when he shows up to the fire in chapter 8, âstark naked save for the paint and a beltâ (Golding, p.125). Ralph and his followers show the civilized and orderly side of the island, but on the contrary, Jack and his tribe show the savagery of man and barbaric side of the island. Significance Of Fear In The Novel
Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding. It was published in 1954. Golding based this novel on two personal experiences one of which was his time teaching at boys ' public schools and the second his experiences in World War II. One of the main themes in William Golding 's novel, the Lord of the Flies, is Fear. From the first chapter, to the last, fear plays an important role in the text. The active role of fear in the text is the only thing, which stops the boys from acting rationally at times and from questioning strange circumstances. Fear, according to the Oxford dictionary, means âAn unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger,âŚshow more content⌠The use of discouraging portrayal causes the readers to become empathetic towards Piggy particularly when he is killed as throughout the book the readers really warm to his character. It can be argued that Piggyâs fear of loneliness stemmed from his previous experiences of being bullied at school, for being an obese, asthmatic boy with myopic vision. Piggy did not want to disclose the nickname he was given because he wanted to be accepted by the rest of the boys on the island.  Piggy 's glasses are significant to the boys as they are the means with which the boys are able to get a fire started in chapter 1, Symbolically, the glasses are significant because they represent power and intellect within a civilized society, which Piggy clings to and refuses to adopt the new, less structured way of life. His physical weaknesses are preyed upon by the other boys, particularly Jack causing him to feel lonely as he is the only minority and therefore at risk of becoming an outcast. The breaking of the glasses represents the breaking of the last tie to humanity that the boys have. Conversely, others would argue that Piggyâs loneliness is natural and not a sign of fear because children without adults would naturally feel lonely. However, we can clearly see that the fear of loneliness is a dangerous tool that causes characters like Piggy to go to their deaths.  Another character, Read the full article

Key Element to a Functioning Society
Responsibility is a Key Element to a Functioning Society Reflecting upon World War II, William Golding wrote and published the novel Lord of the Flies in 1954. The plot explores a group of boys stranded on an island and how they face adversities without guidance from adults, allegorical to the events of World War II. Ralph, the boy who symbolizes both democracy and leadership, evolves as a result of understanding the significance of responsibility. Throughout the novel, Ralph loses motivation to keep up with his responsibilities, leading to his downfall and the shattering of society. Witnessing this, motivation to repair civilization causes Ralph to claim responsibilities. This gives him the courage to conquer his fears and confront the authoritarianâŚshow more content⌠The moment Simon â the boy who understands the Lord of the Flies â dies as a result of the savage game the boys were playing, Ralph admits that it âwas murderâ (172) As a result, a motivation to fix his mistakes surges within him, allowing him to accept his responsibilities. Determination to be responsible does not inherently exist within humans; children just care about enjoyment and do not have the determination to naturally act responsible. However, as they begin to develop an understanding of responsibility, it creates the basic foundations of maturity as they move into adulthood. Despite Piggyâs pessimistic remark that the âfour of ⌠arenât enough to keep the fire burningâ (174), Ralph counters by lighting the fire himself, proving that motivation has the power to trump adversities. This suggests that Ralph is beginning to care about other peopleâs survival, giving him the incentive to light the fire again. His actions demonstrate his responsibility and allows him to finally break free from the clutches of selfishness and fear. Without fear, human minds would be clear of selfishness. Ralphâs only hindrance was his lack of consideration for others; when Ralph first mentions that the Fattyâs âreal nameâs Piggyâ, Ralph forces Piggy to become a scapegoat to act as a buffer between him and Jack.âŚshow more content⌠Furthermore driving him to oppose Jack, representing that civilization can rise above inherent human savagery with responsibility. When Ralph acknowledges that â knew all the time hadnât forgottenâ (192), he shows that he has an acute awareness of the issues within their society, but has never had the courage to confront Jack about it. However, Ralph only reacts when Jackâs tribe steals Piggyâs glasses from him â the only object that can create fire to rescue the boys â because it endangers everyoneâs survival. Ironically, Ralphâs self preservation forces him to think of others, effectively allowing him to see past his improvidence and reestablish his care for others again. Despite the danger of Ralphâs situation, he realizes the significance of responsibility over his own fears and gains the courage to stand up for Piggy. Responsibility leads to courage, a key factor in prevailing over the fear of failing and any adversity, regardless of the difficulty. In spite of when a civilization is crumbling, responsibility can build up the foundation again and allow society to Read the full article
