do you guys think jaime and cersei would've still engaged in incest in their early childhood if they were the same sex? I feel like the hypersexualization of female children (framing girls as "soon-to-be-wives" and "soon-to-be-breeders") was partly crucial to that development, so imo it's less likely it would've happened if they were both male (but not necessarily impossible). also that hypersexualization was definitely heterosexual in nature, so it might not have had the same effect if they were both female either. tywin's claustrophobic family-centered obsession would've happened anyway, so there's that. also (and ough I'm oversimplifying it, ik) I believe the incest is psychosexual and goes beyond sexual orientation, so it doesn't really matter (to me) whether they're straight or not. I think if the "right" factors were there, they'd have engaged in it regardless of sexual attraction in a normal/not pathological context. anyway:
I don't have a definitive answer tbh. I just wanna know if others have given this any thought lol

i am not a supernatural watcher but those brothers do have something weird going on. i feel acknowledging this is on par with acknowledging the incestuous aspects of greek myth, perhaps reprehensible to the modern viewer but inseparably baked into the source context. do we condemn themis and mnemosyne? perhaps. but do we condemn readers of biblioteca classica batava for observing what is true? i cannot.

i know i can't argue with reality here but it's devastatingly unromantic that blood transfusions only work if you have compatible blood types

pride flag for those hyper codependent devoted beyond reason or self preservation no matter the cost "i'd do anything for them and that is a threat" fictional relationships that would be insanely fucked up and toxic if they were real but you can't help but root for given the circumstances the characters are under

tbh the only time the "its alright, they're not actually blood related" romantic incest trope is tolerable is when that fact actively causes both parties anguish. They want to be blood related and they can never be. So they have to resort to a bunch of weird ritualistic coping mechanisms about it.

i looove the idea that deeden can only have sex with the lights off. everything substantial that has ever happened between them has happened hidden underneath the sheets or in the dark. the first time dennis kissed dee in broad daylight (jersey shore) she gave him the silent treatment for weeks. but also they’re literally just twins. something something bedroom made both womb & altar. they’ll never be that close ever again. everything else is about closing the gap.

I think one of the things that appeals to me the most about shipcest is that the characters are star-crossed lovers with an actual good reason for being star-crossed. I could never really get into other kinds of forbidden love, like when the parties are separated by their status or allegiance or something like that. I always thought "can't you just elope somewhere where people don't know you? Then you won't have a problem no more". But familial bonds run much deeper. It's in your blood, in your past, in your relation to the other person, no matter how much you want to change it. You can't. No matter where you go, you have to live with it. I think that's really captivating.

y'know sometimes a character hurts every love interest that enters their life because their true soulmate is their sibling

I need to specifically message you to tell you about HOW RIGHT YOU ARE about incest guilt, for incest it is pretty much hands down my FAVORITE trope, ESPECIALLY the one-sided guilt!! One character who tortures themselves relentlessly, it's even tastier if it's the older sibling and they've convinced themselves that somehow they've contaminated the other and made them feel this way somehow... While the younger sibling understands that to society it's wrong, but they would throw everything away JUST to be with the other- not a single bit of personal shame or guilt. What they'd worry about most is harming the other sibling in any way, or rejection... But not once are they ACTUALLY guilty about their feelings personally. It's about the struggle and overcoming the guilt and forming an even deeper trust (and probably codependence)... I'm also really into guilt trope in general, I LOVE characters who beat themselves up practically to the point of madness
YESSSSSSS!!! ANON YOU COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND ME!
I also love it with twins where one feels like they're contaminating the bond of twinhood and they suddenly start trying to pull away because they're sick and twisted (& if they're identical, Narcissistic), clearly they're going to hurt the one person they care about more than anyone else.
While the other just "Of course it would be you. You are literally the other half of my soul, who else would I possibly love this intensely?"
IT'S JUST SUCH A SPICY TROPE! IT'S FUCKING GOD TIER! PUT THAT SHIT RIGHT INTO MY DAMN VEEEIIIIINS!!!

Dennis is into Dee more than he's into Mac.
thats not an unpopular opinion that's just factually correct television watchery. if dee doesn't pay attention to him for longer than 3.2 minutes dennis is planning their ritualistic murder suicide so they can decay together and return to the oneness they shared in the womb. they be watching dead ringers like yeah that's what our home videos looked like too <3 meanwhile mac could be dead and dennis wouldn't even notice until like 3 weeks later
send me unpopular fandom opinions
