Tech- to You

 Communication is one of the most important elements of human nature. Through the history of humanity people came up with different ways of communicating with each other. From gestures, to letters and telephones, people always showcased the need to communicate with others.  I think that, all of you will agree that today we share the same need to communicate with the people of the past. The difference however, is that we can communicate easier and faster thanks to the technological advances that occurred the past few decades.

   One of the ways that  we communicate today is by using social media. We spend hours and hours on Facebook and Instagram talking to people. Through social media you and I can talk whenever we want and wherever we are. If you want to talk to me at midnight and you’re afraid that you’re going to wake me up, a simple message on Facebook will do. Even if I am sleeping I will see it in the morning and you will get your reply. However, as you can imagine few years ago this kind of communication was not possible. You would have to call at my home phone and most probably you would get a scolding form my mother  for calling at such an hour.

 As you must already have realized technology has made communication easier and more effective. Today you can talk to people that live far away from you in different cities or even different countries. Therefore, you stay connected and you do not lose conduct with the people you cherish.

 This new lifestyle that we are leading today has made theorists question what led to the technological advancements that aided communication. Many theorists argue that the way that society was shaped throughout the years created the need for the  new technological advancements. For example, our need for communication with people who live in other countries, created the need for the existence of means that will enable this type of communication. Other theorists however, believe that technology is the one that shaped society. In other words, when computers and the internet were invented we felt the need to start communicating with people living away from us, using these means.

   It seems to me that there is no particular answer to these two opinions. If you really think about it  both theories make sense and can be considered true. I certainly believe that technology has shaped the way that society communicates nowadays, however at the same time I also support the view that our needs created the need for technology to create computers and social media.

Introducing my Bestie: Smartphone

  We live  a world were smart phones have become a huge part of our life. No matter where we are  we use our phones to text, make phone calls or surf the internet. This new addiction called ‘Smartphone’ is causing people to avoid real life interaction with other people. If we think about it,  we spend more time messaging our friend’s on social media than talking with them face to face. By doing so, we create a protective barrier between us and other people.

 This phenomenon can bee seen mostly amongst teenagers. Young kids today are completely immersed on their phones. If you go to on of these places that young kids hang out you will see that all of them are on their phones. I myself have seen this before. I was walking by a school in my neighborhood and at that time there was supposed to be a break. I was surprised to see that none of the kids where actually talking to each other. Instead, they were playing games on their phones and  they were on social media. That image was really disturbing and is it made me realize that Smart phones are in a way replacing our friends.

 I certainly think that we have   a closer relationship with our phone than we do with our friend. This is a disturbing truth which unfortunately, is true. If you think about it, I am sure that you the readers of this blog do pretty much the same. How many times did you  go out for coffee and instead of talking with your friends you were looking at your Instagram? How many times did you choose to stay home and level up on your favorite mobile game instead of going out? I am pretty sure you’re answer will be ‘a lot’; and that’s because we have a huge addiction with our phones.

 There some people that even compare our addiction to Smartphones with drug addiction. Many claim that less people are becoming addicted in drugs due to their new found addiction in smartphones.  This point could absolutely be true since Smartphones could be considered as serious addiction as drug addiction. However, I think that we should not really connect these two addictions as they have different consequences on the addict, and the comparison can lead to false assumptions.

  It seems to me that Smartphone addiction is harmful for our social and personal lives. So the next time you go out with your buddies leave your phone in your bag and  just start talking to them about anything an everything.

A Sexual Illusion

 Today’s technology is advancing rapidly. If you look around you will realize that what you thought as the latest technology two years ago, now seems to be obsolete. One huge leap that technology has made in the past few years is robots. Robots are slowly but surely taking over our everyday life. Countries like China and Japan are producing more and more robots every year.  Thanks to their efforts, robots today have become so advanced that they can talk , move and behave like humans. Some of them have skin that looks and feels like a real person. One example of such robots is the so called sex robots.

  Sex robots, is  an invention that is quite controversial. To a great extent, these robots look like us. The have skin that feels like ours and they can talk. They are predominantly used by males as a means to please their sexual urges. Each robot can be customized so that it fits the clients taste. What is even more shocking is that the manufacturers have created many various types of female intimate parts so that the clients can choose which fits them best.  

 If you think about it these robots are in a way replacing human beings. Can you imagine the impact that these robot could have to the male population? Men will start having sexual relations with these ‘things’ and  therefore, they will not feel the need to look for a real life partner. This phenomenon, however, is unfortunately here and there already few men that consider these sex robots as their life partners.

 The question at this point is can intimacy with robots replace intimacy with real people? Of course it cannot. I strongly believe that intimacy with robots is nothing more than an illusion. It gives people the slight impression that they have company and that someone is caring for them.  In reality these sex robots are nothing more than a plastic sex doll. These robots do not have feelings and they cannot make you feel real emotions. They cannot make you feel love or happiness or sadness because they have no soul; their simple inanimate objects.

Van-Life or a Van-lie?

 Living in a van has become a huge trend the past few years and many people choose to turn a van into their home. This trend is quite popular on social media platforms and specifically on Instagram. By clicking on #Vanlife you can find a plethora of pictures taken by people that live in a van. Some of those pictures show those people eating, others show them playing games, while in others you can see them be on ‘relax mode’. These pictures tend to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. If you look some of them on Instagram you will notice that the #Vanlife  pictures are almost always taken in front of a magical scenery which becomes even more magical with the use of filters. But how much of what we see in these images is real?

 For all we know these people might not even be living in a van. It is possible that some –if not all- of them use this #vanlife trend simply to gain popularity and money. Although, we might see them living the perfect Van life , in their real lives they might be living in a normal apartment like everyone else. Sometimes I feel that vans are simply used as those people’s workplace. To them it must be  something like the studio a photographer uses to take pictures. They go there they do their job and then they go back to their homes.

 To add to that the portrayal of a perfect harmonious daily life is kind of outstretched. In every #Vanlife picture, you will notice that people appear to be living in small well-organized spaces that sometimes look better than an actual home. Obviously those wonderful spaces are simply a set. I am pretty sure that before taking any pictures, these people tidy everything up and arrange them in a way that will look pleasing to the eye.

 Well, all these pictures that I have seen in #vanlife do not picture the reality. Real life #vanlife lovers live much less glamorous conditions. I have seen quite a few people living the #vanlife and I can tell you that they lead a much more simple life than those Instagram influencers. Forget the aesthetically pleasing interior and the well-organized spaces. True #vanlife lovers live in simple spaces and their only concern is how to keep those spaces clean.

 In my opinion the #vanlife that we see on Instagram is unrealistic and does not portray the truth. So if you want to see how real #vanlife is, meet a real person and stop looking at Instagram’s #vanlie.

Be Your Selfie self

  For the past few years the word selfie has officially entered our lives. Everyone seems to be raving about this new trend. Well let me tell you that taking selfies is not as new as you think. Let us go back a few years back in 2006. Do you remember those really small phones with only one camera at the back? Well if you remember those then you must member how people used to take selfies using that one camera, without being able to see what they are actually doing. Do you see now, selfies were here even before Instagram existed. So why go crazy over something that existed for  over a decade? I guess ,the ability to share them with millions of people through Instagram and other social media platforms made us see selfies as something extraordinary. As a result people started to edit their photos to make them look impeccable. And this is when things started getting weird.

  Today I see- we see- that more and more people do extraordinary editing on the selfies they publish. The new fashion trends have created the need for people-and especially women- to publish selfies that follow those trends. Big luscious lips, showing a little bit of booty and of course who can forget about contouring and highlight; a must for the perfect selfie. I challenge you to open your Instagran and see all your female friends selfies I bet that most of them incorporate some of those selfie “musts do’s”; because who can say no to the Kardashian trend?  Some of them – you will notice-do extreme editing on their selfies, to the point they look different when you meet them up close. Let me tell you that I myself have seen a lot of people looking a certain way online and different when I saw them in real life and I was definitely shocked.

 To me this selfie trend is acceptable and I like taking selfies myself. What I don’t like though is the fact that everyone tries to look the same. Why do you have to put on emphasis on your lips to look good? I see women of all ages trying to show off their full big lips. And when they don’t have them they simply use Photoshop and ‘voile’ here’s your luscious lips. Same thing with the eyes, the hips the height and the list goes on. I am freaking out every time I see young teenage  girls aged 14-15 years old to pose seductively wearing a tone of make up; while I but that in  their everyday lives they  do none of that.

 I am of the opinion that everyone can do whatever they want with their lives and their selfies. However, I cannot seem to stop being bothered by the trend that the selfies have brought with them. It’s fine  to use filters and do some editing but ,please don’t try to be something you’re not.
