the concept and idea of “you can always start trying to be a better person” is extremely important to me both in media and irl and i continue to be deeply deeply disturbed by the trend on this site pushing that these ideas in media are bad writing or even morally reprehensible
because theyd rather someone stay terrible or just straight up die than become a better person
from a compassionate point of view it’s deeply distressing and from a pragmatic point of view it’s outright frustrating
it’s fucked up.

On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.
On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.
Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.

losing my mind imagining in-universe Enterprise porn parodies. They have surprisingly high production value and are popular enough to follow Kirk around wherever he goes. They’re vague enough that he can’t sue them, but the whole ship knows about “Captain Quirk” and his various productions. “Captain’s Log” is a particular favorite since it features “Commander Cock” whose theoretical resemblance to Vulcans living or dead is entirely coincidental. Spock is not amused. Kirk is not amused. Bones gets them each a massive poster of their respective impersonators, but he stops laughing when the character “Dr. Boner” is introduced in “First Contact: Extraterrestrials Gone Wild”

Biggest downgrade in cinematic history. Every other aspect of the j'jambramsverse could be perfect and I'd still hate him for this alone. Turning the sexiest evil big tiddy space eugenicist into some uwu softboi in a windbreaker. Banging my head against the wall. He doesn't have any swag. Where's the cunt???????????

Chris Pine: Yeah I mean I’m NAMED Kirk and I’m gonna have SOME of Kirk’s personality traits but I am trying to somewhat make my own character
Zachary Quinto (in his oddly high pitched voice): I WILL be emotive because I MUST portray Spock’s inner turmoil! But not too much! Still gotta stay true to the character!
Karl Urban: I fused souls with DeForrest Kelly.

I suspect somewhere along the line we collectively decided internet safety meant only avoiding sexual predators & that's one of the reasons cults and hate groups can thrive online
A holistic internet safety curriculum would be maybe 10% avoiding and dealing with sexually predatory behaviors, 40% mental health skill teaching focused on self-regulation and self-esteem, and 50% How To Spot And Avoid Manipulation (anti-scam, anti-cult, anti-misinfo, anti-advertising, etc). Hell, most of the skills you use to steer clear of harmful groups also help protect against sexual predators online!
