They had no true wedding day; it was all arranged, a painting of him standing in for the man himself. A beautiful painting, brushstrokes describing a face of hard angles but a soft smile (for her, she likes to think).

When he comes to her, he takes the candle from her hand so gently, robbing her of a glimpse of him in the warm glow. The planes of his face are bathed in harsh, receding moonlight as he leads her into the shadows, until the only thing she can see are the pinpricks of light in his eyes, can feel only his hands on her in the dark.
