Get ready for another vent discourse nobody gaf about 😃

I've been seeing a lot of beef between fans with Vees dynamic discussion, and honestly it's disappointing to see that in fact - we have not come very far as fandom. What's disappointing is people's attitudes and harassment towards others with a ✨different opinion✨. Polyvees fans used to get more hate in the beginning, then when that subdued, a lot of (usally younger) fans who still HC the "family Vees" trope get ridiculed for "being inaccurate/non-canon anymore" HELLO??? Not this again...

Honestly I think the family trope is really cute, but I think the 'canon' or 'Vivzie' version, where they are simply a trio with Val and Vox breaking up every third day and Velvette holding them together (AKA being the only remotely sane one) suits them and their narratives the best. I can also see all three "options/dynamics" definitely possible for them, but the fact that the polyV fans still act like the minority, when we've come to a point where it's actually the opposite, only to use it as excuse to go "OMG you STILL don't ship this the way I do???" At the end of the day - polyvees are still a ship, and even if they would become canon in the show, why would someone changing shit in fanon be so wrong? Velvette's sexuality is not cut-clear, and most people HC her to fit their preferred ships (like if they like VoxVel - she's bi, but if they like LesboVel - well she's sapphic etc.)

I say this is disappointing coming from THE VEES fans, part of fandom known to be ostracized for "defending" Val and "endorsing" evil people. The whole thing I liked about Vees fans from the start IS the fact how most of them are so chill in fandom discourse, due to having somewhat controversial/challenging opinions that (at the very beginning) differentiated from majority and willing to just discover and be silly. So now to see ship wars over sth so silly as this is very ironic. C'mon people this is the whole Alastor ships discourse again...

ALSO I especially hate the narrative that all found-family (or even just non-polyV fans) don't ship it because they're "infantilizing Velvette". I don't think the only way for her to be proven as an equal is to date them. THIS IS LITERALLY THE ALASTOR BULLSHIT AGAIN HE'S MORE THAN HIS SEXUALITY-

To clarify, I'm not dunking on Polyvees fans or Polyvees. Just because it's not to my taste doesn't mean I don't recognize the possibility and respect the freedom of people exploring different dynamics with any ships. Some of the sweetest people I've interacted with are Polyvees fans - so thank you for keeping your cool! It's just about the hypocrisy I constantly come across in this fandom, it's really tiring 😩

My favourite aspect of StaticMoth and Valastor is that those are the only dynamics(that I ship) where Valentino would honor a very special set of safe words! It works every time, Vox and Alastor know how to keep him in check! You'd ask what those safe words would be? It depends. Vox uses his cables to pull Val away from himself, and/or electrocutes him; Alastor either kicks, bites, or uses his magic, but it's usually all three. Works like a charm every time!

It's funny that a lot of ppl nowadays think "booktok smut ruined society" and "created gooners", when erotic novels have been sold out since 18th century. Marquise de Sade, the literal father of sadism (linguistically that is) lived off his dirty work. Almost every third well-known author, popular as 'a classic' for his work today, had also written some smut on the side. And yes - women loved them, in fact, even then there was a narrative that those kind of books will "corrupt women" and "give them ideas" (old news history repeats itself). The great popularity of such books lead to huge censorship movement, banning thousands of books deemed to be 'too dangerous' because they went against the government, the Church, or simply public moral 'code' of that era. Funny enough, most of them are banned even today (for being 'too spicy'...). This is why it's important to protect AO3 and similar independent archives. The topic of censorship is a slippery slope to go down in discourse every time, but I see a lot of ppl invading fandom spaces to try and enforce an idea of this 'need to censor the bad stuff' (and of course, they will know the 'bad' stuff). I don't know how many ppl know that law of the freedom of the press in 1881 as well as author's rights in late 1700s came as result of years of heavy censorship. The idea that people (and especially women) are too dumb and easily influenced by fiction. Not to mention the constant play-pretend of a puritanical state of mind even though people really didn't change that much over time.

So no - booktok did not "ruin" shit. People have been freaks since long ago. Written porn existed for centuries. I understand if you find it 'cringe' or 'bad writing' or something, that's discussion of taste and you are free to express that - but this narrative of openly hating booktok because it's "a bad influence" and screaming for some need for purging FREE fanfiction is just making you look very immature.

I hate when an artist gets exposed for being a bad person and people start the narrative “why would you even want to listen to their shitty music” when are we going to be freed from the idea that only good people create good art and bad people create bad art. It just makes it harder for these types of people to be exposed because now you got people thinking “how is this possible, his music is so good!”
