i'm gonna sound like a hater (and i am) but keep in mind pjo is very dear to me and has a special place in my heart because they're the books that got me into reading

that being said, the pjo show was fucking shit.

if you don't want to hear me talk shit about it please disregard my post.

and before you come at me with the "you hate annabeth because she's Black" let me stop you right there. when rick announced annabeth's casting and jumped to her defense saying he casted them based on who best portrayed the characters and didn't consider the physical features of the kids, i was intrigued to watch the show. how amazing could leah be that rick was so adamant to make her play annabeth?

but she was mediocre at best??? and not just her. absolutely no hate to leah and i think this is more of a directing or production problem. because while at first i was mostly critical of the acting—not just leah's, mostly everyone else too—i soon realized the problem was much bigger than that. i have no doubt the kids could have been 10 times better if only the rest of the team didn't fuck up the show.

you can see how much fun they had on set and their chemistry off screen. but in the show itself everything got stilted for some reason. they seem more in character outside of the show than in it. how bad did rick fuck up that the actors who had such natural chemistry were not able to channel it on screen?

the poor actors had to recite the whole entire plot basically. i initially criticized leah for sounding like she was reciting a lesson she had to memorize by heart for school, but then i realized it was because the whole script was written in a way that basically made it a lesson to be recited. annabeth was always reciting some exposition and info dumping. the way all three of them immediately clocked a dangerous situation and launched into a lecture to explain it to the audience.. yeah that was shit

the kids were doing their best with what they had. there wasn't an instance where they could bring their characters to life because everything was exposition and explaining and exposition and info dumping and exposition

it was the peak example of telling and not showing. it botched the characters to make them explain every single thing that happened. we couldn't just experience something. the characters couldn't even experience something. everything was figured out and wrapped and packaged before it even started which was INFURIATING

and the plot itself was altered in nonsensical ways from the book. i don't mind changes in plot when they make sense, but the things rick did to the plot of the show? diabolical.

and the way they changed the tone to be unserious and joking the whole time?? they're supposed to be in mortal peril. percy's sarcasm is enjoyable because he can make light of dangerous situations. but the sarcasm in the show was out of place because the dangerous situations were nonexistent. i mean sure they had to fight a couple monsters but no one believed they were in actual danger for one second even. even smelly gabe who was supposed to be an abuser to percy and sally was made into a ridiculous caricature for comedic value.

the show literally gave us nothing. not a plot. not a good banter among the characters. not even the characters original physical appearances. and that's what people (i am people) are mad about.

i hope to god they fix their shit in the new season. but they probably won't, because the first season got so much praise and awards and why would they change anything if the masses are satisfied? but the masses are WRONG.

i dread the moment we see nico on screen because they will destroy his character just like they did percy and annabeth and grover and sally and luke's characters

one of my favorite subtle implications in the series is that it seems the Titan Army was fully banking on Percy being the host of Kronos. Why else would they make their main base a cruise ship if their primary enemy is a son of Poseidon? Named after Andromeda, the wife of Perseus? Why would they work on Oceanus specifically being free so much? Side notably with other children of Poseidon? Why plant Zeus and Hades' items of power on Percy when Luke already had them? Why only Zeus and Hades' items, not Poseidon's? Well because they really need Percy as Kronos' host, that's why. (and Poseidon siding with them because of that would be a bonus as well)

I like to imagine Luke's cabin on the Princess Andromeda is fully decked out with like "WELCOME PERCY" and sea-themed sheets and everything and he hates it so much cause it's a constant reminder he failed and he was Kronos' second choice. Also then he gets his super special pegasus not even exactly stolen by Percy, but the pegasus willingly defects to be Percy's personal steed instead, which must just be insult to injury. Luke has immense one-sided beef with Percy and Percy has no idea.
