THIS BELONGS TO BEN CAJERO

I'm taking FYE 100c since it is required. Even though I need to take it, I enjoy taking photos. I’ve been taking photos since I was given my mom’s old Fuji film camera. I shot with film before delving into the area of digital photography. I have used Photoshop and Illustrator since I was in freshman high school. I have experience with analog and digital cameras, but enjoy analog best.

WERE THOSE TIMES REALLY BETTER?
For this assignment, I decided to go with the theme of utopia. As a child, I always wished that I was born in the 50’s. I always thought that it was better, but unaware of the problems that the 50’s held. It was a time when there was political, and racial strife going on at that time. I wanted to incorporate the idea of escaping the time in my piece. Also during that time there was gender issues as well, which is why I used my girlfriend to also exemplify the gender strife. I wanted to exemplify a storyboard with the pictures I took. They all share the same color palette and style. There are nine photographs giving the idea of escape and travel.

LANDSCAPES:
For this assignment, I chose to capture the journey to Summerhaven, Arizona. Summerhaven is the small town in one of the valleys in Mt. Lemmon. It is one of my favorite places to travel to. I wanted to convey the idea of travel and how we can mix something like a road (which is man-made), with somewhere booming with nature. The project is split into three parts: The nature, serenity, and destruction. At windy point, I took photos that were all about nature, for the next set I chose cabins in Summerhaven to represent serenity and peacefulness. And then the third I chose Burnt trees and part of the valley that was destroyed. I wanted to convey the idea that though we can find it peaceful, there is always someone who doesn’t care about the forest like others may.

Cars On Streets
I have always loved cars. As a young boy, I always dreamed of owning a classic Volkswagen or BMW. By the age of 16, I had enough money to buy an old 1988 BMW 325i convertible. I was so enthused and always loved looking for others on the road. Unfortunately, I had to give up my old BMW for something more practical for college. I didn’t want to worry about 1,000 dollars repairs every three months (which happened to me). One of my favorite views of cars is the side profile. A car can have a very interesting design form from this angle. I wanted to show how cars of previous years tend to hold more character against those of modern times. So, I captured five old cars that I think shaped how cars are designed today. With their outstanding visuals, it’s hard for these cars to stand out, yet most people don’t pay attention to them if they’re parked and not driving. The side view of these cars tells a story of where they’ve been and what kind of person drives them. Each car is different, yet they all hold different purposes to whomever drives them. I wanted to give the photos a simplistic look, and most of the time, the profile view of the car is the best view for that.

Matthias Heidrich is a photographer who mostly takes pictures of interesting architectural structures. His work fascinates me since they almost look fake with there over-saturated vibes.
