In the Gipuzkoan shire of Debagoiena, a pre-Roman tradition survives: the karapaixo.

The karapaixo is a triangle-shaped bread with eggs and txorizo tied to it. In ancient times eggs were added to the bread as a symbol of life and it was baked to welcome spring. Txorizo was added later in time just because you can never go wrong with it. Also for those wondering, yes, eggs are perfectly cooked since they're baked with the bread.

The tradition evolved through history and at some point, godmothers started giving karapaixos to their goddaughters around Easter, and they still do it!: once a year every year from the day they are born until they get married. Nowadays since marriages are in a slump, this usually ends when one of them (godmother or goddaughter) gets tired of it - and if it happens it's mostly godmothers because who would get tired of recieving this glorious bread every year??.
