"Do you really have to go?" That question slips out before she can stop herself. "I mean, I know you must return to Italy because of mass and everything, but you have to leave even earlier this time? Does the confession role rotate among your kin? I thought a priest or someone with the church would be responsible for that."

Though it may be different among vampires. Harmony never attended any of their ceremonies before, so she does not know much about how they work. Though her attendance is out of the question. It would mean sitting in a church for hours. It would mean she's surrounded by vampires who would be cordial but they would be out of respect for the prince. Never mind the few who dare whisper harsh rumors amongst themselves. This manor is the safest out of all his residences.

Harmony sighs as she sinks further into the sofa. Gray eyes lower to her feet.

"But I'm not mad. You can't help any of that." She isn't going to be angry at him. But still, she always misses Mason when he leaves. "You do what you have to do."

Mason was already slumped over the small dining table his braced arms being all that stopped him from flopping onto it. "In a rare moment - I will be entirely frank about the situation, my homeland, and my kin." He takes a deep breath and sighs. "No one enjoys holiday confession. It is the worst busy work imaginable, I and no doubt every other qualified vampire prefers doing taxes by hand to it. To call it torturous is whining but the only other word I can think of to describe it is penance. Given all the centuries old church goers who have done this thousands of times, the utterly pompous faux-aristocrats who drone on and on over the tiniest 'sin' in their lives, the rotten bastards who think confession is some place to boast their misdeeds mundane and gruesome, and the flock of fledglings who out of either pressure or boredom wander in to kill my time in the most apt use of the word! Not helped is the fact that we and that includes me are not allowed anything in the booth save our texts, notebooks, and other reference material; of course, phones are not allowed for obvious reason. All because of our Reformist policies - which I still vocally and officially defend voting in favor of - I will be trapped in that booth with nothing to do but perform my duty, and read the same Bible I've read more times than I can count as well as the various transcripts and rulings I've scrutinized as part of my senior responsibilities. It is the most dreadful news of the holiday short of death."

Mason again took a deep breath and sighed. "Had I a choice, I wouldn't leave your side this year."

Thanks to and in spite of his princely title Mason was chosen to administer (got stuck with) Confession this Christmas. Being the dutiful prince he is (couldn't find a way to dump it on anyone else) he will be spending much of his downtime posted (trapped) in a booth and handling confession.

All of Mason's organ/piano compositions are exclusively written by him, but other instruments and vocals are often contributed by others. Not that he's bad at it but he believes in sticking with what he is best at and letting other experts contribute their own abilities.

I love how Nul contrasts with his alternates.

Nul: Chaotic good death-like being with a tragic backstory and a bone to pick with half the universe.

Yoshiro: Smart child with an alcohol and tobacco problem, ride or die anarchist, and a small time criminal.

Klaus: I am Alpharius. Grumpy insomniac assassin that deeply cares for his comrades and will protect them with his life.

Due to a very important reason that I am unfortunately unable to explain at the current time - One of Nox's personal genetic modifications is a series of hard keratin spines hidden in their arms and legs. These spines are a defense mechanism that causes their body to immediately and rapidly grow the spines and project them through pores in the skin. The design of these spines is to inflict serious pain to anything they puncture and are tough enough to even go through dragon skin. The main intent is to stop anyone from grabbing them and for a runt like Nox the more defense the better.

They did an extraordinary job! The outfit, her updated cybernetics, all of it designed by Envy-mun! They went above my expectations and I am so happy with how this turned out!
