Composition of brass
Brass is an alloy composed of copper and zinc. According to the zinc content, brass can be divided into different types, such as α brass and (α+β) brass. Among them, the room temperature strength of (α+β) brass continues to increase before the zinc content increases to about 45%; but after exceeding this ratio, due to the appearance of more brittle r phase in the alloy structure, its strength will drop sharply. Therefore, copper-zinc alloys with a zinc content of more than 45% have no practical value.
