I NEED to complain about Dusttale

First of all, Sans would NOT go around and kill monsters. It's just not happening. But that's what this AU is—a hypothetical situation. So hypothetically, if Sans were to go around killing monsters, how would he do it?

Well not how it's usually portrayed, I'll say that much. In fact, my biggest gripe with this au is how Sans kills Papyrus.

I always see Sans portrayed as aggressive or overly emotional. He's chasing Papyrus down, he's laughing maniacally, he's sobbing uncontrollably...

All of these takes are WRONG.

These are not even CLOSE to being within the realm of Sans' character. If you think this is how he'd react, then please go do minimal level research about Sans' character by watching a video essay or something at least.

Sans is nihilistic and depressed. One of his biggest flaws is that he believes his actions to be unimportant and that nothing matters. His killings would be unemotional, quiet, and downright apathetic. It's not that he didn't try to care at first, but this au is clearly built on a foundation of madness. After presumably hundreds of resets, do the lives of everyone around you truly matter? Do you matter? Do your FEELINGS matter?

No. That is what he concludes.

And if their lives don't matter, then why should he care? They will all end up coming back anyway, and he really needs that LV.

He wouldn't even feel the need to get the last word in. He's got a job to do, and he'd rather not pay attention to the fact that he's killing people. If he talks to them he's engaging. If he looks at them he's engaging. If he thinks about them he's engaging.

He wouldn't wear that hood to look mysterious or to hide his eyes or anything like that. He's wearing it to block out the outside world. It's to muffle the voices of his victims and avoid having to look at them.

These were once his friends—the very people he wants to protect from the endless genocides. In fact, killing them contradicts what he's trying to accomplish. But this is an au so we roll with it. And Sans, despite knowing these people as his friends, has lost sight of what makes them real. Their lives are only important in order to give him LV now. Don't engage.

Papyrus' death? That's a different story. It's way too complex. He would absolutely NOT kill Papyrus, and that's a fact. There is no version of Sans that is close to canon that kills Papyrus. If Sans kills Papyrus in an au, then that au is NOT close to canon AT. ALL. Even applying insanity and disengagement to his character doesn't make it any easier to come up with a reason that he'd kill Papyrus. Killing Papyrus is so contradictive that if it happens then there's no point in even trying to come up with an excuse for Sans' actions, as the plot has now been lost. A "canon" dustale au would keep Papyrus alive, even of everyone else dies, because killing Papyrus defeats the purpose of gaining all that LV. Who is there left to save if he kills them all? And besides, Sans wouldn't be doing it for anyone else. He'd be doing it for Papyrus (maybe Toriel but idk). You could kill everyone else and that would still be more canon than having Sans off Papyrus.

I personally have a few ideas of what a more "canon" Dusttale might look like, but im not gonna get into them because im not that passionate about it. I think my points still stand tho

Okay wait. Before you block me (I know I have a Sans PFP please bare with me) I would like to say that these are ACTUALLY good reasons to dislike Sans.

I personally like Sans, if my PFP is any indicator, but these are genuinely good reasons to NOT like him. I have a big big problem with ppl that dislike characters for stupid reasons, but i want everyone to look in the comments and read through there. OP has literally listed good, understandable reasons to dislike Sans as a person. THAT is how you hate a character correctly. And I'm not saying I agree with everything, but like. I get it. I nod in agreement and see things from OPs perspective because let's be real, OP has given better reasons than half of the haters out there for why you should dislike him. That alone makes it a respectable take.

The stupid "but Sans fucked my mom" shit is NOT a good reason to dislike him.

The "but Sans antagonizes Kris everytime he sees them" argument IS a good reason to dislike him.

It should be normalized to dislike somebody for being just generally an asshole, and while I enjoy his character for different reasons, the fact that Papyrus masks around him alone shows that he is a character with faults and deserves to have clashing opinions surrounding him. I could argue with OP for hours about why they should like him... but I won't, because they SHOULDN'T. They don't NEED to like him, because Sans just doesn't resonate well with them, and that is NORMAL. we NEED different opinions like this in fandoms.

Also people have literally done this to Papyrus for years and nobody said anything about that. It's how Dustale came to be a thing. People said that Papyrus was forgettable and unimportant enough to kill him off with, to be frank, no good reason other than to give Sans angst/trauma. It's a story that kills Papyrus (and everyone else) off only to advance a plot that revolves around Sans, which is so, so dumb and such a bad take.

If the people in the crowd would stfu and sit down then they wouldn't get so butt hurt when the people with the microphone say that Sans has good reasons/arguments to be dislikeable

Papyrus is silly, not childish. He is a adult, and his brother certain isn't a good brother. A good character for being a bad person, but no good brother of his. I rather listen to Papyrus himself on things and who he is as a character rather than his lying, smiling trash bag of a brother. And you should listen to Papyrus too, not sans.

You are no papyrus fan if you mostly cater to his brother.
