Idk if this is a good idea or not but imagine you wrote about that you know how there will be ash people in avatar 3 imagine if neteyam likes Varang’s daughter (varang is the leader of the ash people) or smth like that
i really like your idea!! like omg i'd really love to write about the ash people i think that would be super interesting, but i don't know much about the ash people and wouldn't want to portray their culture in the wrong way :( but HOPEFULLY I can write this in the future when i learn more about them 😄

summary; neteyam visits his favorite healer after a hard battle
word count; 2.2k
BLOODIED, BUT BEAUTIFUL.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Neteyam staggered into the healers tent, gritting his teeth together as an attempt to keep himself from hissing due to the pain that was coursing through his entire body
Y/n was speaking to one of her fellow healers, oblivious to Neteyam standing behind her in dire need of her tender hands
He waited patiently, leaning against the entrance of the tent as he took slow breaths to keep himself from passing out as Y/n let out a laugh at whatever the woman she was speaking with said
Finally - she turned around. Her face content until she saw Neteyam - her cry of surprise had him wincing as she rushed over to him, grabbing his arms immediately and leading him to a cot he could lay down on
"Neteyam - you skxawng! Why didn't you try getting my attention earlier! Oh Eywa look at these wounds!" She said mortified, eyes quickly assessing Neteyam's injuries as he managed a smile
"Hello to you too, Y/n. I like your hair today." He said, barely having the strength to lower himself onto the cot in front of him as Y/n sighed
"Thank you." She said angrily, eyes stressed as she quickly reached for her disinfecting ointments with urgent need
He grunted as he laid down in front of her - the injuries over his body were burning and painful - but the familiar smell of the soothing medicines surrounding him and Y/n's scent allowed his body to relax as he tipped his head back and closed his eyes against the cushion laid for patients to rest their head against when being healed
"Teyam, what happened?" She said quietly, looking over his injuries one last time with a sad frown before dipping her hands into the ointment in front of her as her hands lathered it gently into his skin
He sighed, eyes opening as he watched her work with knitted brows. She was looking at him expectedly as she continued applying the green paste onto his skin
"Bad day for the war party." Was what he finally settled on as he let a wince of pain slip through - Y/n's hands quickly stopping at his rare show of suffering as she looked towards him with a knowing look
"Neteyam. I hate seeing you so hurt." She finally whispered, her voice pained as he finally met her gaze - his eyes crinkled with an ache she wished to sooth.
He stayed silent for a few moments, letting her words settle as he slowly moved his hand towards hers. Seeing he was trying to hold her hand, she quickly moved forward and clasped his hands herself so he wouldn't try to move anymore and risk aggravating his wounds any further
"I know. I am sorry." He said quietly as Y/n let out a huff
"How dare you apologize to me! Take it back! You are hurt, Neteyam. Don't you ever try to say sorry to me again when you are the one to deserve it so much more." She said, her tone truly hurt by his words as both of her hands cupped his gently. He ran his fingers over her knuckles as he let out a breathless laugh
"Ok, ok. Sorry -" He started, but was cut off with her letting out a hiss at his use of the word sorry once again
Finally, he let out a laugh that bubbled all the way from his tummy at her reaction as she let a small smile find its way onto her face
"Now, let your body relax. Think of something peaceful to help you. Deep breaths, Neteyam. Understand?" She asked as he nodded his head, closing his eyes as his mind trailed to a certain someone
It was not hard to have her be the sole thing on his mind as she worked diligently - her scent consuming his senses along with her occasional humming as she worked easily eased the tension from his muscles.
He didn't know when he'd fallen asleep - but her gentle hands cradled his face as she whispered his name
"Neteyam, come on yawne."
He didn't open his eyes when he first heard the words - believing he was just dreaming until he felt her soft fingers trace over his eyelids and nose
With lashes fluttering open, he was met with her concerned eyes as she helped him sit up
He let out a groan as he adjusted, but relaxed quickly as he felt the previous pain from his injuries almost gone. Looking down, his abdomen and arms were wrapped lovingly with her signature style - the cloth warm against his skin as he sighed.
"Thank you. I am sorry - was I sleeping for too long?" He asked sleepily, eyes taking in the now empty healers tent and dark sky that loomed outside
"Yes. I did not want to wake you. Did you sleep well?" She asked gently, helping him stand as he held onto her arm for support - eyes blinking away his tiredness as he slowly nodded his head
"I think that was the best sleep I have had in a very long time." He answered, his hands moving from her arms and around her as he enveloped Y/n in a hug, resting his head against hers as she smiled against his skin
"Well, thank Eywa I didn't let anyone wake you." She laughed quietly as he pressed a gentle kiss to the side of her head
"Thank you." He said quieter now as Y/n's cheeks quickly tinted with surprise while she blinked, stunned and trying to process what he had just done
Seeing her surprise, he displayed a lazy smile as her ears perked up
"You're welcome. You know, I'd do anything for you." She said softly as he nodded his head
"And I'd do anything for you, Y/n. But you already knew this." He said as she finally rolled her eyes, her sweet smile peeking through as Neteyam grinned at the sight of it
"Tonight, I walk you home." She said, her voice gentle but firm as Neteyam shook his head
"But-" He started, but she gave him a look that had him quieting in a instant as she smiled
"Come on, now. You are in no condition to walk to even your own quarters, let alone mine. Let's go." She reasoned, her hand moving to his palm as she led him out of the tent and towards the familiar path of his families sleeping area
They walked through the resting na'vi silently, Neteyam's hand never leaving hers as the sounds of Pandora's distant night animals filled the silence
She stopped a few meters away from his families quarters, respecting the fact that they were sleeping inside and not wanting to intrude any further as she turned to Neteyam
He looked beautiful in the moonlight. His freckles glowed in the dim light, and she could see the tenderness in his eyes as he looked at her.
"Now, you are going to go inside, and go back to sleep. No doing anything else, your injuries need rest." She instructed, his eyes never leaving hers as he listened - nodding his head along to whatever she said
"You see, the wounds you acquired from today were all over your body. To be able to make a full recovery - Neteyam! Are you even listening to a word that I am - "
But she was cut off by him leaning towards her and pressing his soft lips against hers, his head tilting downwards as she was pressed flush against him - his palms holding her face so lovingly as any sound of surprised that left her lips was silenced by his mouth
Blinking away her shock, she leaned in to him as his arms came up and around her - holding her against him so lovingly that she couldn't stop herself from closing her eyes and deepening the passionate kiss
Finally, she broke away from him - lips pink and cheeks alight as she blinked rapidly - her mouth was parted as she struggled to even form a single word. He laughed - a real laugh that had a slow smile creeping onto her face as she tried to look away from him and hide the growing blush she could feel creeping up her neck
But his hands grabbed her face and turned her towards him - his eyes so happy that she couldn't even make herself look away as he began speaking
"How are you going to leave after this? And you know I will not sleep soundly if I do not know you returned back to your bed safely." He whispered as she looked at him silently - eyes round with love as he smiled
"You said it yourself. I am in no condition to walk you to your quarters and back - and I cannot sleep without knowing you are safe - which is something I need to do, according to you, so my wounds heal." He added, a playful glint in his magnificent eyes
"Are you suggesting I stay with you tonight?" She questioned, and his grin broadened as he nodded
"It is nothing shameful. I am making sure my dearest friend is safe with me." He added, his fangs peaking through that same incomparable smile she was so infatuated with as she shook her head, trying to contain her giggles as he reached for her hand
"Come on. You can lay in my hammock, and I can sleep on the ground." He said, mumbling the last words quietly and hoping she wouldn't hear - but unfortunately, the gasp she let out as her eyes snapped towards his let him know she'd heard him perfectly fine
"You sleep on the ground? That better not have been what you said." She exclaimed, brows pulled together and concerned as he rolled his eyes and laughed whilst leading her into his families sleeping quarters
She entered hesitantly, Neteyam turning back to look at her with an encouraging nod of his head as she observed the peacefully sleeping Sully's. They moved quietly to ensure no one was awakened.
He moved to lay in his hammock - which was thankfully large enough for both of them to comfortably lay on as he moved over and outstretched his arm towards her
She laid down, tucking her hands under her face as she laid on her side to look at him. He whispered how pretty she looked and she smiled - swatting his hand away and telling him once again how important sleep was for him as he sighed contently - arms wrapping around her as Y/n rested her head against his chest gently
They'd never been this intimate before - but she loved how natural it felt as their friendship had always been one consisting of them being close to each other.
She said she'd wake up before the sun was up to walk back to her tent, and Neteyam said he'd walk her there in the early hours of the nearing morning.
Normally she would've awakened in time - but she'd spent the night whispering and giggling with the boy who laid beside her. He was no better, laughing so much that the girl would have to press her palm against his mouth to quiet him. They must have fallen asleep hours later - enveloped in each other's warmth.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Jake stumbled as Lo'ak tugged him along, bouncing like a maniac with one of the widest smiles ever plastered on his face. Neytiri trailed behind the two, fuming at Lo'ak for waking them up - the boy had even been pulling on their hair to get them out of bed and insisting they had to come and see what he had to show them that second
"Lo'ak, boy this better be good or else you are in big tr-" Jake grumbled, but his own voice trailed off as Lo'ak stopped in front of his big brothers hammock
"Look, guys." He snickers, poking Neteyam's cheek, who laid sleeping - a young girl tucked under his arm as the two slept soundly.
Jake's mouth only hung open as Neytiri stepped forward, carefully examining the two before letting out a pleased gasp once she recognized the girl
"What is Y/n doing here?" Neytiri asked, a smile on her face as she watched her son hold the girl close to him
Jake blinked, shaking his head before answering
"I came to the healer tent to get Neteyam - she shooed me away, said he was sleeping. She was gonna bring him to bed too, I guess she fell asleep here." He said, brows furrowed - confused but happy as he saw how peaceful Neteyam looked as he slept.
Lo'ak looked from his mother to his father, back in forth in disbelief as his mouth hung open
"Are you telling me he is not in trouble?!" He practically shreiked as Neytiri yelped, slapping the back of his neck and telling him to hush
But the two teens stirred, eyes peeking open as Y/n quickly sat up - her eyes adjusting to who stood in front of her before they widened - completely horrified
Neteyam lazily sat up beside her, a sleepy smile on his face as Y/n covered her mouth - shaking her head and muttering someone kill me as Neteyam looked towards his parents and brother
"Good morning." Were the words he'd said, stretching his arms as Y/n bowed her head and covered her face, mortified. Jake and Neytiri's laughter filled the air only moments later.

summary; neteyam has the girl of his dreams right in front of him - but he cannot have her because she belongs to someone else. (does that stop him though? NOPE!)
word count; 4.2k
HIS SUN
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Neteyam Sully thought he was able to do anything he set his mind to.
As the oldest son of Toruk Makto, he strived to live up to his fathers image. His parents never failed to tell him of his importance, helping him understand exactly who he was and giving him the confidence to overcome anything.
Until her.
She stuck out like no other na'vi he'd ever meet. Her face something captivating and so charming - yet dangerous. Lethal.
She was the girl that had him turning around for a second glance. The girl that had his heart beating like a crazed drum. The girl he'd kill for.
In his eyes, she was perfect. Perfect in every way. Perfect for him.
Except for the distinctive fact that made her so untouchable.
She belonged to someone else.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Y/n sat with a group of teenage na'vi, all whom were giving their absolute attention to her as she stood tall, arms outstretched as she told them of her recent hunt. Her eyes gleamed with pride as she explained in detail exactly how she managed to escape the animals surprise attack
Neteyam sat towards the back of the group, where he was almost out of her view. He closed his eyes as he took in the sound of her voice
Smooth - so smooth. Like liquid. She spoke confidently. Expressively with the same radiant smile he was so infatuated with
When she finished, she sat back down as the next story teller went up. The girls around her swarmed her figure - raving on how brave she was during her hunt - or how they liked the gems that hung low on her neck
He loved how politely she'd respond to the compliments. Even blushing at some, unable to hide the flush on her cheeks.
As the teens quieted down for the next speaker, he watched Y/n comfortably stretch her legs out in front of her. The beads in her hair clinking together quietly as she moved. Her arms were behind her as she tipped her head up towards the boy who was talking to the rest of the group. He was beginning to tell his own tale
Any word the boy said went right through one ear and out the other, and he could feel his mind slipping and unable to even take in his surroundings as she became the only thing he could focus on
She could sense his gaze. He knew this because her eyes moved directly to him. She held eye contact for a beat. Two beats. Before turning away with a smile.
She didn't look at him again for the rest of the time the teens spent sharing stories. As the last volunteer to share theirs ended with a round of applause, the teens slowly began dispersing into smaller groups and began talking amongst themselves
He looked for Y/n, and after seeing her standing with a group of girls and nodding her head along to whatever they were saying - he seized the opportunity to speak with her.
He was by her side in less than a minute, and her friends gave her a surprised glance as she turned to Neteyam. They respectfully moved so Neteyam could speak with her, giving him room to talk to her privately.
"Neteyam Sully. Oel ngati kameie." She said sweetly, giving him a smile that had his tail flicking behind him lively
"Y/n. Oel ngati kameie. I had to come and say, your encounter with the Slinth was something only someone like you could fight." He said, his words holding true respect as her lips tipped upwards into a familiar grin
"Thank you, truly. But I must say, there is no one else like me." She said, a playful glint in her eyes, and Neteyam was sure his eyes could have been mistaken for hearts with the way he looked at her
He smiled, fangs and all. Just as he was about to speak - the boy he dreaded interrupted their conversation with a scowl plastered on his face
"Y/n, I was looking for you." Arutey said, moving and standing too close to Neteyam - almost as if to push him out of his way
His ears flattened against his head in disappointment as Y/n's eyes moved away from him and towards Arutey
"Yes, Arutey?" She asked, her tone sounding like she was holding in a sigh as he shook his head
"It's private." He said, almost snapping at her as Y/n frowned. She turned to Neteyam and bowed her head in goodbye. She gave him an apologetic look as Neteyam shook his head
"Do not worry about it. We will speak together another time." He said, eyes hard as Arutey stared at him with a hatred he understood. Anyone could've known how Neteyam felt for Y/n with the way he practically gravitated towards her
But he was a boy with honor, and he understood it was not his place to speak to her right now.
She opened her mouth as if to say something, but Arutey's hand latched around her arm and gently pulled her backwards and away, towards him. Neteyam hated the way his hand moved from her arm and to her palms as he interlocked their fingers. They were walking away from him now - but Y/n turned around for one more glance
She held eye contact for a beat. Two beats. And then, she looked away. But this time, it was with a frown.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
He walked to his hammock with his head hanging that night. Arutey wasn't right for her. Why? Well, he couldn't answer that.
He wished his initial dislike for Arutey was for something not related to Y/n. But it was.
Maybe it was how rough he could be - Neteyam knows how Arutey behaves when he's angry. Like how he'd yelled at a younger na'vi for messing up during a hunt - the way the child's eyes welled up with tears had Neteyam ready to crack his bow over Arutey's head.
He knew Y/n would've been upset if she'd seen how he behaved sometimes, but they hadn't been together long enough for her to see that side of him yet.
Or maybe it was the boys ego - too inflated for someone as humble as Y/n.
Or maybe it was because it wasn't him at Y/n's side.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
It was Toruk Makto's yearly celebration of the day the Na'vi won their freedom from the sky people.
Though the Na'vi had many celebrations where they honored the Great Mother and the life they'd been blessed with, Toruk Makto's celebrations were always one to look forward to
Y/n's top was a beautiful shade of purple - made from the petals of Sun Lilies.
From her legs hung beautiful crystals and ornaments that glowed in the moonlight. Her hair was open and out of it's usual braids - falling softly over her shoulders and curling around her
It didn't take Neteyam long to find her. She looked like a flower in bloom with her colorful attire whilst surrounded by the greenery of Pandora
She was talking to a group of girls, laughing at something one of them said
It was a little embarrassing how much time he'd spend watching her from afar - but building the courage to go up to her was something he struggled with.
He knew he couldn't have her, because she wasn't his. But Eywa, sometimes it felt like he was made for her. He knew how silly he would sound if he said it out loud, but he knew - deep down, the love he felt for her would never leave his heart and soul.
Eventually, Lo'ak found Neteyam and dragged him to where he and a group of boys were sitting idly and speaking to each other - obviously intoxicated with something as they spoke loudly and tumbled over their words - laughing.
"Come on, don't be a loner hanging out all by yourself Neteyam." Was what Lo'ak had said to him
Neteyam just rolled his eyes with a laugh. In reality, Neteyam was even more popular than Lo'ak amongst the teenage boys. But, he didn't usually spend too much time with the other boys. They respected the fact that Neteyam liked to be alone sometimes, not even questioning Toruk Makto's son.
Neteyam finally realized Arutey was sitting amongst this group, oblivious to Neteyam's presence. Maybe it was because of how intoxicated the boy was. Neteyam watched him spill his drink as he stood angrily, storming off at something one of the boys had said
"What's wrong with him?" Lo'ak asked as the boy Arutey had been speaking with grinned. He then snickered, straightening himself a little bit as he noticed Neteyam's eyes watching him, like a predator would to its prey, before speaking.
"Just messing with him - his girl doesn't want him anymore." He said as Lo'ak looked at him confused
"What girl is it?" He asked curiously. But Neteyam's head was already turning to find Y/n
She was still sitting with her friends, unknown to the boy who was approaching her
He stood in an instant, following Arutey with furrowed brows as he watched him approach Y/n and drag her away from the party
He watched her protest, trying to get him to let go of her - but his hand held her arm tightly
It was too crowded for her friends to notice that the boy had taken her, only Neteyam had seen the distasteful interaction
Arutey must have been standing behind some tree now, out of sight from the rest of the party. He was slurring his words a bit as he yelled at her. Neteyam could hear his tense voice - but he could not see where they were, as Arutey had moved swiftly when walking with her - and Neteyam had been too far behind to see exactly where he'd gone
His voice grew louder, and Neteyam's anger was growing to the point where it was threatening to snap
Y/n Y/n Y/n
He was yelling at her. Someone was yelling at her.
Neteyan wasn't stupid, he knew the reason Arutey was yelling at her was because of him. And he wouldn't have it go on a single second longer.
His eyes were practically crazed as he searched for her familiar figure.
He followed the voice - hearing the words "You're a liar." and "Unfaithful." echoing through the forest as the voice grew louder - indicating he was getting closer-
He saw her tear streaked face first. The way her lips were parted in shock at Arutey's cruel words as he kept throwing insult after insult.
Arutey's back was to him - but Y/n saw Neteyam approaching them. He felt his stomach physically recoil by the wounded look on her face - but her expression quickly transformed into relief when she saw him
He was furious that Arutey had frightened her so badly - so mad he could've easily killed him with his fury alone. Arutey must have seen the look on her face -because he was turning around to see what she'd been looking at with such wide eyes
But before he could even get a word out - Neteyam's fist collided with his face. A sickening yet satisfying crack meeting his ears as he threw punch after punch.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
They were on each other - throwing hits so powerful it would've knocked out any other regular Na'vi, but the two teens were warriors, and not ready to back down.
Y/n had taken a sharp intake of breath when Neteyam hit Arutey - but she'd let out a cry when Arutey hit Neteyam
"Stop! Please, both of you!" She tried yelling, and the sound of her desperate voice had Neteyam turning away from Arutey and towards her with concern. Unfortunately, that single second of distraction was all Arutey needed as he threw a punch straight at Neteyam's face
"I hate you!" He yelled at Neteyam - his intoxicated mind ready to give his all in this fight with Neteyam
Neteyam merely gritted his teeth and recovered from the hit in an instant - throwing another punch at Arutey as the two of them pummeled each other with flying fists
It seemed their yells had caught the attention of the Na'vi, as they began walking into the forest to see the source of the screaming and fighting
It didn't take long for Toruk Makto to pull Neteyam off of the boy - and for Arutey's friends to pull him away from the confrontation as well
Both boys looked like they could've gone the whole night fighting each other as they were dragged away
Y/n was yelling at Arutey now, slapping the back of his head as he only sat quietly now. She was visibly upset, and Neteyam could only hear her trembling voice as his father yelled at him
"What the hell were you thinking boy? Hey, Neteyam!" He snapped, angrily snapping his fingers in front of Neteyams face - who's mind seemed to be somewhere else entirely
Neteyam blinked, before shaking his head and wiping the blood he felt trickling from his nose with a frown
"I'm sorry dad, I-" He started, but Neytiri quickly cut him off
"We leave Neteyam. Now."
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
After a long lecture from his parents and a proud smirk and slap on the back from Lo'ak, Neteyam struggled to sleep, once again.
He laid in his hammock for maybe an hour before getting up. It took him a second to stand straight, as his head was still a bit dizzy from the hits he'd received from Arutey.
He sighed uncomfortably before his feet took him out and towards the forest - away from his sleeping family.
Neteyam never got into fights. He really was one of the most civil and peaceful Na'vi in the clan. Fighting was something Lo'ak was known for doing. He didn't even know what was going through his mind when he hit Arutey - but seeing Y/n getting yelled at by that Skxawng had triggered something inside of him.
She was easily the bravest teens amongst the clan - known for her flawless hunting and charming personality. But seeing her with Arutey had always upset him. How did he, of every Na'vi to live, have the privilege to be with her?
He knew he could not interfere with someone else's relationship - but Y/n had been his friend before she began her relationship with Arutey. And Neteyam believed he had the right to protect his friend. His dearest friend, no matter what. He valued their friendship like no other.
"Neteyam?"
He turned slowly at his father voice, seeing him standing sleepily and looking at Neteyam confused.
"Come here kid, come on." He gestured, calling him over as they sat down. He saw how tired his dad was, just barely awake as he sat down with Neteyam. He knew he was in for another lecture.
"Dad, you are tired. We can speak in the morning if you want?" He tried reasoning, but Jake shook his head firmly
"Yea, you think we'll get this type of privacy in the day?" He said, laughing quietly as Neteyam gave him a small smile
Jake was quiet for a moment, almost like he was thinking, before he began speaking.
"Now, tell me what happened. What really happened that made you fight that boy today." He said softly, his tone showing no anger as Neteyam stayed quiet, looking at the ground
Jake waited patiently for Neteyam to gather his thoughts
"Dad... well, there's this girl. Her name - it is Y/n." He started, the words foreign on his tongue as he spoke
Jake raised a knowing brow as Neteyam let out a nervous breath. Jake has heard of Y/n briefly, he knew of the girls sweet nature and skills.
The words were hard for Neteyam to speak because, well, he'd never spoken out loud of his feelings for Y/n before
But they sat for maybe an hour, Neteyam pouring out the feelings and the hurt he'd kept bottled up for so long as Jake nodded along quietly, listening more attentively than ever.
When Neteyam was finished talking, the relief he felt was like no other. Jake grabbed Neteyam gently by the shoulders before speaking
"Now, listen to me Neteyam. She is special to you, I gathered that much. And if someone is special to you - you don't ever let them go. I know that from experience. You know... you're mother was promised to someone else when I met her. Now, I'm not saying to go after someone who doesn't belong to you - what I'm saying is, if you truly, in your heart -" He said, tapping Neteyam's chest gently with his finger before continuing, "If you truly feel she doesn't belong with him, that she isn't happy - then you interfere. The fight you got into... well, I hate to say it, but I'm proud you intervened. Don't tell your mother though -" Jake quickly added concerned as Neteyam let out a heartfelt laugh
"Now - go back to sleep boy. Rest, you're tired, I can tell." Jake said, gently pulling the boy up from where they were sitting as Neteyam smiled
"Goodnight dad." Neteyam said. And right when his head hit his hammock, sleep took over his body before he had the chance to fight it.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Neteyam had spent his morning deep in Pandora's plentiful forest.
Initially, he wanted to clear his mind. But he couldn't stop himself when he saw the array of flowers that were growing plentifully and basking in the suns rays.
He'd seen his father gift it to his mother - a bouquet was what he'd called it.
It became a tradition of Jake's, constantly getting Neytiri bouquets whenever he was out or when she was mad at him. Neteyam loved seeing his mother's face light up when she'd be greeted by the familiar and beautiful array of flowers.
It took him a while to figure out how to create it - but once it was complete, he couldn't have been more proud.
It was colorful, and smelled so sweet that it reminded him of Y/n's own scent. The flowers were all different from one another - two of each kind, one flower to symbolize Y/n, and the other flower to symbolize him.
There were many, and they were tied together by vines expertly. It truly was a beautiful bouquet.
He had hidden the bouquet and spent the entire day with a cheesy grin plastered on his face looking forward to the night - when he planned to seek Y/n out.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Y/n sat quietly tonight, not speaking much expect for a few please's and thank you's during  dinner
Neteyam frowned as he watched her - she was usually so lively and talkative. He loved eating his food quietly and listening to her talk to the clan with her precious smile
After dinner, she excused herself early and was seemingly bidding her goodnights for the evening.
Widening his eyes at her quick departure, Neteyam also swiftly excused himself as his father gave him a knowing nod - granting him permission to leave
He grabbed the bouquet he'd kept hidden, before taking a deep breath and following after her
"Y/n! Wait!" He yelled out
She turned around, looking a bit confused. But once she realized it was Neteyam who was calling her, he watched her ears lift curiously as her tail swayed awaitingly behind her
"Neteyam." She said breathlessly as he stopped in front of her, looking down towards her as his nervousness finally caught up to him
"Yes, I- are you ok?" He finally managed as she blinked a few times, shaking her head as if to assure him nothing was wrong
"Oh Neteyam, I am fine. I actually wanted to thank you for yesterday. I..." She trailed off as she stared at him, her hands clasped together tightly
"I feel horrible for what he did to you. You did not deserve that, and I - I have never felt so horrible before. I wanted to find you earlier, but I didn't think I could talk to you without - " She stopped, clamping her mouth shut as she took a deep breath in
Neteyam felt his heart sink as he understood what she'd been trying to say by the misty look in her eyes.
She thought she'd start crying if she tried talking to him after last night.
"Y/n... oh Y/n, I am the one who intervened. And for your honor, I will always intervene. Please, do not blame yourself for someones else's ignorance." He said softly, moving one of his hands forward as he tentatively reached for her face
He stopped a few inches from her face, suddenly freezing as he realized how intimate it was to cradle one's face. But it was Y/n who moved forward, resting her cheek against his palm and holding it softly.
She closed her eyes, leaning her cheek into his hand as Neteyam's heart beat quickened - so much that he was sure she could hear it.
"Actually, I stopped you for another reason Y/n. There was something I wanted to give you," He said, trying to calm his heart as his mind felt like he was about to go into the most dangerous battle of his life
She opened her eyes, her lashes damp as she looked at him with eyes so mesmerizing he struggled to form a sentence
"I wanted you to have this... I want you to know, I value you. More than anything Y/n. And if... If you ever need me, for anything at all - I am always here for you." He said, slowly moving his arm to reveal the bouquet he'd kept hidden behind his back during their conversation
He will never forget the look in her eyes when she first saw the bouquet for as long as he lived.
Her lips parted, her eyes stunned as she took in the beautiful sight of flowers in front of her
And finally, the smile he'd missed so damn much overtook her entire face. The light from it alone bright enough to shine over even the darkest parts of him.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
He wouldn't pursue her the night after the fight. He knew she needed time, and he would wait as long as she'd wish for him to
But, their friendship evolved.
Before, he spent his time watching her from afar. Now that they were closer as friends, he sat next to her - and Eywa, he began to see the little details he'd missed before.
Like the way her eyes would squint when she'd find something hilarious, or the way her face would be completely still, and only her eyes would move when she was hunting. She would be entirely focused - and he'd be just as still when he'd watch her
She liked swimming. They had spent many nights swimming with each other. She'd tell him of her favorite songs to sing when praying to Eywa, and how she loved sunrises. She'd wake up before every single one just to watch it happen.
He found himself opening up too - his heart giving her everything and more as he shared every bit of him to her. He'd tell her of his struggles as the eldest son, and how sometimes his mother would show him her clever tricks with her bow - he promised he'd show Y/n every single one she wanted to know about. To this, she said she wanted to know them all.
She learned everything about him - and he learned and loved everything about her.
He didn't think he could fall in love with her anymore than before, but he was wrong.
Neteyam awoke early today, it was still dark out, but the smile on his face couldn't have been any more brighter
She'd invited him to watch the sunrise with her. Nobody else knew she'd wake to watch the sunrise - and he felt his heart physically stutter in his chest when she asked him to come with her.
It was a special moment of her day - and she wanted to share it with him.
He saw her sitting peacefully, eyes closed as her legs hung over the edge of the ledge she was sitting on
He sat down quietly next to her, and she turned to him with a smile
"Hi." She said quietly, her eyes twinkling in the dim light. Neteyam felt his heart swoon at the sight of her
"Hi." He whispered back, before the two of them turned to the view in front of them
The sun was barely peeking over the horizon, her rays ready to touch the sky as Y/n turned to him
He turned away from the sun and to her, and she moved to hold his hand
"I wanted to tell you something important, Neteyam." She said, her voice gentle as his ears perked up
"Of course, is something wrong?" He asked, his voice genuinely concerned as she let out a quiet laugh
"Nothing is wrong, I just..." She trailed off as she stared at him, her eyes filled with an emotion he didn't entirely understand just yet
He remained quiet and waited for her to speak again, squeezing her hand reassuringly as she shook her head
Moving forward, she pressed her lips to his.
They were soft and gentle and sweet. He blinked rapidly, before leaning into her. His mind immediately freezing as he felt her hand gently hold his face
As she pulled back, the sun's light illuminated her face so radiantly, that Neteyam's breath was simply taken away.
She laughed at the look on his face, her smile enchanting him in a way no one else could've.
"I like you, Neteyam. More than friends. More like -"
"Lovers." He breathed out, still unable to believe what had just happened
She nodded her head, eyes beaming at him with love, he realized
"Eywa, I've been waiting for you to say that." He said lovingly with a grin that matched hers as he leaned towards her and connected their lips once again, the sun's light shining on them both as they enveloped each other longingly.

OUR HIDDEN SIGHTS
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
He held the girls hand tenderly, kissing her fingertips as she giggled
"It tickles." She whispered, eyes bright with nothing but love as he sent her the same charming smile she'd fallen in love with
The sun was setting over the reef, the sound of the na'vi celebrating distant as the two sat hidden and away
"I missed you, tìyawn." He sighed, moving as he laid his head on her legs and closed his eyes
The smell of the ocean grew to become something he loved. The soothing sound of the waves crashing against the shore would be the thing lulling him to sleep.
When he'd first arrived, he thought he'd never be able to accept the island. Their way of life was simply too different from the forest
It was so hard for him to fit in, but something, someone, made it so much better.
Tonowari and Ronal's eldest daughter, Neteyam's love and best friend, had been the one to greet him with a kindness he'd never experienced before
Her ability to love so freely was what he fell in love with. Yes, the clan was welcoming, but she was different. She saw how they truly felt, how scared and out of place they really were. And she took it upon herself to make them feel welcomed into her home.
She had caught his eye the first day with her beauty, when her curious eyes met his. And he will never forget the smile on her face as she tilted her head and looked at him with an excitement that had his lips moving into a cheesy grin
Their love was something forbidden, for if Y/n's mother even suspected anything between the Sully boy and her eldest daughter - she'd personally hang them both by their tails
"I missed you too." She said, letting her head fall back as she closed her eyes
"You know, I saw you swimming today. " He said, peeking one eye open to look at her as she let out a quiet laugh
"Yes. That seems to be something I do everyday, did you know?" She asked as he shook his head
"Really? I had no idea you swam so much" He said, his voice teasing and so happy that she couldn't stop herself from placing a soft kiss on his head
"Hmm, maybe we should swim together one day?" She said, knowing well that the two of them had spent almost their entire day yesterday swimming with one another
"I think I'd like that very much.",  was the response she got as he interlocked their fingers once again.

A CHANGE OF HEART
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Mother, please tell me this is not my punishment!" she whispered harshly, her hand desperately pulling her mothers arm as the woman sighed impatiently
"Yes, it is Y/n." she replied, turning to Neytiri who stood a few mere feet from them. Her own arm was locked around her own son as she gently pushed him forward with eyes that dared him to even try to protest
The two mothers acknowledged each other with strained smiles as Y/n felt her anger dancing on the edge of absolutely exploding
It wasn't her fault, is what she wanted to say as Neytiri handed her the thin dagger and explained their punishment in detail that had Y/n gritting her teeth together to keep herself from saying something she'd regret
Y/n's mother then handed Neteyam a woven basket, filled with enough fruits to last them the few hours they were being forced to endure together
"All you two do is fight, argue, and yell. I hope you know this is meant to help you only. The clan simply cannot be surrounded with this. Do you two understand?" Y/n's mother snapped as Neteyam nodded his head quickly, a small frown on his face as he kept his eyes on the ground
Her mother nodded satisfied, before turning to her own daughter with a look that could kill.
"And you Y/n? Did you hear me?" Her sharp voice called out as Y/n shifted on her feet uncomfortably
Y/n's mother was known for her strong personality. Her bravery was something alarming as she was always ready for battle. Her current battle however, was getting these two teens to get along. She certainly had Neteyam's teeth clattering, but Y/n only looked at her mother with sad eyes
"Yes mother." She said, careful not to anger her anymore
"Good. Go." She said. Though her tone remained the same - sharp as ever, her eyes were gentle as she bid the two teens goodbye
The two mothers walked together closely as they left, their children however, kept a healthy distance between them as they began their trek through the forest
Y/n's eyes stayed on the two women until they were out of sight. The second they were, she turned the weapon Neytiri had given her at Neteyam so swiftly that he barely had any time to react
Already confident in himself she was going to do something like this, he pulled out his own knife that he'd kept hidden on himself
Surprised, she tilted her head with a cocky smile
"Didn't know I was that predictable, Neteyam."
The way she said his name had him scoffing as he held his knife tighter in his hand. Y/n wasn't worried at all, because she knew he wouldn't fight her unless she made the first move
"Don't say my name like that." He practically growled as she let out a taunting grin that had his knuckles paling with how hard he was digging his fingers into his weapon
"We are meant to stay together for the next few hours, yes? Get along and become the bestest of friends, right? Well, I say we go our own separate ways and be convincing enough for them to believe we spent these hours together. Ok?" She asked, finally lowering the knife just the slightest bit to let him know she was going to be civil for this single conversation
Neteyam's eyes remained on her. He stared at her like he was contemplating between life and death as she let out a sigh
"Or, you know, we could fight to the death to settle this feud once and for all?" She said with a wicked grin that sent a shiver down his spine. He knew she wasn't joking. Not even a little bit with that comment. He imagined her laughing if she did manage to stab him, and he shook his head to get rid of the horrifying possibility
"We are going our separate ways. Don't even try any surprise attacks. I am not in the mood." He said, walking past her carefully as she discreetly moved her leg in front of his path to trip him
He caught the small movement, eyes moving down as he stared at her foot. He blinked before looking back at her, his eyes displaying absolutely no hint of amusement as she slowly pulled her foot back
"Worth a shot." She mumbled
He scoffed, grabbing a single fruit from the basket her mother had given them before walking away
She picked up a fruit as well before turning around and beginning her own journey, deep into the beautiful forests of Pandora.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
The day Mo'at had announced Y/n and Neteyam as mates was the day she watched her life be thrown completely off axis and thrown into a world she didn't understand
A vision was what she'd called it, pushing her in front of a boy she didn't even know and declaring him her soulmate
She hissed when Mo'at said this, unable to control her hate for the new word as she understood its meaning
Her soulmate. She was convinced that there had been a mistake, but Eywa does not make mistakes was the only response she got.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Y/n moved through the forest carelessly. She was happy for the small time of solitude she'd been granted with this punishment as she skipped through the forest
She spent time playing with the small creatures she encountered on her journey, drinking from rivers she came upon before she settled herself against a nearby tree and began crafting
She wove the leaves she'd found together expertly, humming to herself as she smiled at her talent to create such unique pieces
It was a thin head piece, made with the fallen leaves and vines she found in her path
She adjusted the piece on her head, peering her face into a small nearby pond to look at her reflection. Pleased with the view she was met with, she sighed as she wondered what to do next.
She'd be lying if she said she wasn't tired, and she'd be lying even more if she said the tree she was laying against wasn't comfortable. The gentle slopes of the bark serving as the perfect place for her to rest her figure against
She sat there for a while, simply closing her eyes and letting her body relax. Eventually, her mind wondered  and thought of what Neteyam was doing in that same moment before she shook her head and let out a hiss for allowing herself to think of him at all
He had never been unkind to her. At least not until she was unkind to him.
She remembered the night Mo'at sat them in her tent and told them of their future together
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
His eyes were on Y/n the entire conversation, only moving away when she'd look up
He could see the tears that so badly wanted to break through - the realization in her eyes as she understood her future was being decided for her
Neteyam could feel his heart grow heavy as he realized how much he hated himself for putting the girl through so much pain. He loved his life in the spot light as being apart of Toruk Makto's family - but sometimes, the responsibilities would weigh him down to the point where he questioned if he'd ever get up
She wouldn't look at him. Refused to, and she left quietly after Mo'at dismissed them. He tried reaching out for her arm to try and say something to comfort her as she exited the tent, but drew back as she latched herself onto her mother
"Ma- I don't even know him."
He remembered her voice so clearly - the confusion and sadness as her mother held her hand firmly, kissing the girls head gently and whispering encouraging words to her as they walked away
They didn't know he had followed her outside, and he felt numb as he turned to his mother
She had a knowing look in her eyes as she spoke to him gently
"Don't think we expect anything from you now, Neteyam. But in the future, you will grow onto each other. Remember, Eywa does not make mistakes. Believe me, son."
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Just a few moments" She mumbled to no in particular as she closed her eyes, letting her head fall back and allowing herself to fall asleep
It was a stupid mistake, really. Falling asleep in the middle of the forest and having no way of making sure she'd awake in time. But she didn't care as sleep overtook her body and mind.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Eclipse neared, and Neteyam sighed as he lifted himself from the patch of grass he'd been resting on
He didn't have anything to hunt with, and he realized only after he was too far into the forest. He'd spent most of the time simply wandering in thought, which was not something he did often
He thought of her. He hated himself for it, but he couldn't stop the thoughts and ideas of the two of them truly being happy from flooding his mind.
She was hurt. And Eywa, he wanted to heal her so badly. He wanted to tell her he saw her clearly, he saw her pain and sacrifices and the brave face she put on for everyone. But, his own pride was keeping him from uttering a single word.
He stood at their meeting spot for a few minutes. Then ten. And then, half an hour had passed.
She wasn't here. Her initial absence wasn't alarming at all, as he assumed she'd take her sweet time to come. But as the sky became darker, he realized something was wrong.
She'd never cut it this close, to the point where she'd risk her mother finding out they'd gone their separate ways when they were supposed to be together
His fear was something small, but it rocketed into full blown panic in an instant as he realized something must have happened to her
At this time, the larger predators would begin to emerge underneath Pandora's dark sky, and she was still somewhere in the forest
His footsteps were fast as he ran through the forest, calling out her name and ears rising to hear any possible sign of her
He cursed to himself, realizing how immature he was for agreeing to go separate ways. He should've refused and just stayed with her - obviously with some distance to ensure she wouldn't try any tricks on her - but he shouldn't have left.
His voice turned desperate as he couldn't find her - not even a trace.
The possibilities were endless - she could be hurt, stuck somewhere-
And then he saw her. Sleeping, against a tree without a care in the world with something hanging from her hair
He felt his heart physically stutter in his chest as he realized she was ok. He gritted his teeth, attempting to keep himself from losing his shit
She acted so carelessly, like she didn't even care if she lived or not. He hated how she had no regard for how dangerous the things she did were.
He let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding in. He didn't know when he'd even allowed himself to get so worked up over anyone, but he tried to calm his heart as he let his mind accept the fact that his mate was fine, more then fine as she slept peacefully
He was absolutely sure he was going to yell at her like never before for the near heart attack she'd given him and how reckless she'd been until he heard a deep rumble
The sound had his heart drumming in his chest as he whipped around and looked for the source of the sound
The Thanator paced slowly, it's bright eyes shining in the dark as its head dipped down and chewed at something. The small creature had been gutted by it's teeth, bits hanging from it's mouth as it chewed mercilessly. He watched it's fangs peak through its menacing mouth as it emitted another low growl
It was one of the many larger creatures he feared running into. He believed he'd find Y/n in time, but it looks like he was wrong.
The girl still laid unmoving, besides her chest which rose and fell slowly.
If the Thanator's eyes found her sleeping there... He didn't let himself think any further as his feet moved quietly, his eyes blown wide in panic as he tried to figure out what to do. And fast.
Neteyam held the knife in his hand as he crept behind the trees slowly, his footsteps silent as he felt his heart hammering in his chest. He kept looking at the Thanator, who he was sure could hear his heartbeat. The knife in his hands felt silly compared to the thick skin and pure size of the creature
He was behind the large tree Y/n laid against, moss lining its side as vines hung low from the branches, hiding Neteyam's moving figure from the Thanator
He moved his hands forward as slowly as possible, placing one hand around her stomach and the other around her arms
He pulled her slowly, desperate to get her out of the animal's line of sight and behind the tree. His hands were sweating as he struggled to adjust his grip on her.
She stirred slightly, but she surprisingly, and thankfully, did not wake as he pulled her entire body away from the front of the tree and laid her behind it and out of view
He quickly looked back at the Thanator, confirming it hadn't noticed them before he wrapped his arms around her and picked up Y/n's sleeping figure with ease
It would be better if she was awake to escape, but he was sure if he woke her now she'd make some sort of commotion that would catch the attention of the unknowing animal that lurked
He held her close to him, her eyes finally fluttering open as she took in his face. Realizing she was in his arms, she moved her hands to push him off before she caught the look in his eyes
Dread. Pure dread.
After seeing her awake, he gently put her down. She swayed slightly, confused and still half asleep as he put a finger on her lips - telling her to be quiet
Normally, she would've smacked his hand away. But she was too tired and instead she lazily turned her head to see what he was looking at
A single Thanator stood, watching them with eyes so bright and filled entirely with hunger that it had her back straightening in a second
She suddenly didn't feel so tired anymore as terror consumed the feeling of every limb in her body
But that wasn't why he was so scared she realized, as she took in the entire pack of Thanators that trailed behind it, their predetorial gazes latched onto the two na'vi like a child to a toy
"Eywa...I fall asleep for two minutes." She mumbled, but Neteyam didn't miss the hitch in her voice as she said the words
"Hours. Two hours." He gritted out as she sighed
"Oops?" She said, her feet slowly taking a step back as the Thanator put one foot forward slowly, like it was trying to keep them unaware of the attack that it had planned
"When I say to, we run. Don't even try to separate when running. Understand?" He said slowly, his body unmoving but prepared to run as she moved her hands to secure the leaf crown on her head
"Fine." She whispered harshly. He watched her secure the head piece on her and tried his best  not to swat her hand away from it. He was irritated she was focusing on her hair of all things instead of her life. She truly left him speechless sometimes with the way she acted
The leading Thanator led out a growl that sounded awfully hungry, and Neteyam's voice was in her ear as he pulled her backwards and away
"GO!"
The teens were fast no doubt, and some of the strongest in their clan. Their feet hit the forest floor hard as they ran with speed that was something to be applauded. The sound of the pounding steps of the herd behind them only encouraging them to go faster
Panting, they jumped over any obstacle in their path. Rocks, tree trunks, logs, vines, boulders - anything and everything.
They were in perfect sync - well, until Y/n's headpiece fell
She let out a yelp, trying to catch the flying piece as it fell behind her - but her fingertips barely brushed it as it fell from her hands
He turned around at the sound of her voice, watching her jump behind a tree and disappear in seconds
He let out his own yell of frustration before following behind her, panting, he watched the herd run past their hiding spot. They had no idea the two na'vi weren't in front of them anymore
They had managed to lose them, remarkably, but that wasn't his priority anymore. It was Y/n's behavior, but as he turned to her, she was already moving. Crouching on the ground, she crawled around while looking for something
Neteyam took a deep breath, before turning to her with the meanest look she'd ever seen
Mentally preparing herself, she let out a sigh as she turned to him with a bored expression
"Great Mother - What is wrong with you? You fall asleep in the middle of the forest, manage to catch the attention of an entire herd - get chased by them and -"
"Ah!" She exclaimed, picking up her fallen headpiece with a satisfied smile. She let out a laugh as she observed it was perfectly fine, not a single leaf out of place!
He grabbed her arm, yanking her up as she stumbled
"We leave. Now." He said, his voice so angry, she didn't even protest
She frowned as he held her hand firmly, not even giving her the chance to try and go her own way
They walked silently, careful of their surroundings. Eventually, his deathly grip on her softened as he held her hand more comfortably
For once, she regretted how she treated him.
He was so stressed. She could see it in his eyes, the fright she'd given him wasn't small. She'd seen all of his emotions as they grew up together closely. She'd seen him angry, sad, happy - but she'd never, not even once, seen him so upset.
He kept looking around, eyes tired but filled with alert as he made sure no other creature tried to attack them
She looked down at their hands, interlocked so lovingly that it made her turn her face away with a frown
She looked at her other hand, which held her head piece. As she stared at it, she realized why it had fallen off while they were running. It was too big.
Then she turned to him. She stared at him so intensely that he couldn't ignore it, turning to her with brows pulled together expectedly
"Huh." She said. His head did seem a little bit bigger then hers
"What?" He asked annoyed as she stopped walking. She gently removed her hand from his. He looked confused and tried reaching for it again. But, she got on her toes and placed her prized possession on his head
It was the perfect size. Framing his face so perfectly that she couldn't help but let a small smile break through. A real smile.
He stood completely still. It seemed like he had stopped breathing as the only thing that moved were his eyes as he watched her silently
"I can't believe how perfectly it fits you, Neteyam. And I must say, it looks a little bit better on your head instead of mine." She said in the same teasing voice that would never fail to have his heart beat faster
He looked so beautiful. He glowed in the moonlight, but it was nothing compared to the look in his eyes.
He gently touched the piece on his head, a crooked smile growing on his face at her rare show of kindness towards him
"Did you just give this to me, willingly?" He asked
He couldn't even be mad anymore. Not even if he tried to, as every bit of anger and confusion of fear was killed by her small yet radiant smile
"Maybe." She said playfully as she grabbed his hand and continued their walk
He followed her, but made sure to stay a single step behind her so she wouldn't see how quickly his small smile transformed into the biggest grin ever
He could feel her change of heart with the way her fingers brushed over his knuckles as she held his hand. He saw her change of heart with the way she told Neytiri that their punishment went smoothly, that he was civil. He saw her change of heart with the way she adjusted the headpiece one last time on his head when their mothers weren't looking. How she'd given him one last glance as she left with her mother, her hand moving as she performed the gesture that he'd only imagined her doing in his day-dreams
I see you
She grinned at the shock he was unable to hide, laughing as she left with her mother and left him smiling for the rest of the night. Her laugh found its way into his dreams, and she was the sole thing on his mind, like always.

A TRIP TO MY TENDER HEART
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"No way!" Lo'ak exclaimed in awe, examining the powerful gun in Y/n's hand with a laugh
"Yea. I know." She said proudly, marveling at the dangerous weapon that was held a little too nonchalantly in her hands
"I've seen a warrior use this, it took down a gunship in a single shot! This will for sure help the war party." She said grinning as she and Lo'ak continued examining the clouds for the sky people's presence
"If Neteyam found out we had one of these..." He said, letting out a breath of nervousness as Y/n shook her head, steering her Ikran further away from the line of sight of the other spotters who flew alongside them in the sky
"That is exactly why we need to stay out of sight Lo'ak! That boy would shoot me in the head with this exact gun if he knew-"
"Y/N!"
The name was hollered from behind her with such an intensity that she winced at the sound. There was no need to even need to turn around to know exactly who it belonged to
"Ay, come on Amay!" She yelled, letting out a victory war cry as her Ikran expertly managed to fly past Neteyam's in an instant
At first he whipped his head around with a scowl to see what she was flying towards. Unfortunately, he was met with the horrifying sight of her grinning figure as she put what easily could've passed as a bomb over her shoulders and aimed the thing at an incoming warship
"Great Mother she's going to get herself killed!" Neteyam screamed as he tried flying after her, Lo'ak quickly moving to block his path with his own Ikran, his eyes wide with a frantic expression on his face
"Let her hit them bro! You know she can, that thing in her hands can knock their ship out the skies!" He said, desperate not to let his brother mess up Y/n's clear shot
"No! She's not following orders - what if she messes up? Lo'ak, it will knock her out of the skies!" He yelled angrily
Lo'ak's face flashed with momentary fear at his words - and that second of distraction on his face was all Neteyam needed to fly past him and towards Y/n
He could hear Lo'ak yelling from behind him, but he ignored him, knowing the severity of the situation Y/n had gotten herself into that she and Lo'ak simply didn't understand
"Y/n! I swear, If you launch that bomb - ! "
But his own voice was cut off with the menacing sound of the gun being fired
He watched it hit the gunship right in the center, truly knocking it out of the skies.
Then, he watched the horrible gun recoil from the pressure accumulated from the shot and hit Y/n square in the chest
It was like he was watching her in slow motion. The way the gun slipped from her hands, the way she tried to find her grip on Amay, her faithful Ikran, as she was pushed back with a force so strong she could've never stopped it from knocking the wind out of her
And then, he watched her fall.
In an instant, he let out a yell as his Ikran, crying out too from Neteyam's overflowing emotions, flew after her in seconds.
But the debris from the war ship was flying everywhere. Black smoke clouded his vision so immensely he could only yell out in frustration and panic as he lost her falling figure
He knew Lo'ak had flown after her the second she fell too, but he could not be sure he didn't lose sight of her as well
He yelled out his name, then hers, and was only met with the war cries of the na'vi
Landing his Ikran, he jumped off in an instant and began searching for them on the ground
Yelling for them both on his ear pierce was no use as he was met with complete silence from their end
Before he could even make another move, an airstrike, one aimed at the na'vi war party this time, hit the ground and exploded so violently that it launched Neteyam straight into the air.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Boys! Y/n - " Jake yelled, but stopped as his eyes landed on Lo'ak, who was looking around, his eyes wide in what seemed like shock
"Lo'ak! Lo'ak, are you ok boy? What happened? What the hell are you doing here!" He yelled, taking hold of his shoulders once he examined him and saw no threatening injuries
"Y/n fell from her Ikran. Dad, she was really high up - I - no one caught her!" He cried, feeling his fear seize his chest so violently that Jake could only shake his head as he pushed Lo'ak towards his Ikran
"Go boy, get out of here! Tell me where she fell, quick." Jake said, unable to hide his own terror as Lo'ak pointed in the direction he saw her last
Y/n was known for being a little... reckless. Just like her father, Tsu'tey. The man he'd sworn to that he'd protect his daughter for as long as he lived. And he certainly wasn't about to lose her like this.
"Neteyam too dad. I don't know where he is, but - " Lo'ak started but was quickly cut off by Jake
"Leave Lo'ak! Go, I will find them. GO!" He yelled over his shoulder as he ran swiftly through the numerous bodies and falling debris
His eyes searched desperately for the two, his feet moving fast and his eyes moving faster
Finally, his eyes latched onto the familiar figure of his son, who was struggling to crawl to the body that laid a few meters from him, his hand outstretched towards it
Y/n
She groaned, rolling onto her side
Jake's heart dropped as he finally saw the gash in her stomach, so deep it bled all over and around her
"Oh man." He whispered, quickly moving to check Neteyam as he was the closest one in his path. Surprisingly, he pushed his father off of him
"Fine, Dad I'm fine. Help her." He said, struggling to speak as his eyes remained on Y/n
Jake turned from him to the stubborn girl who was actually trying to stand, waving her hand as if to insist she was all good
"I'm fine too - " She barely managed to say as Jake quickly picked her up, being careful not to aggravate her wounds anymore as he held her tightly to his chest. Somehow, he managed to use his other free arm to throw Neteyam over his shoulder as well. Too weak to protest, Neteyam only groaned as his father held tightly onto both children
"Fine my ass." He mumbled angrily
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Now tell me, what the hell were you thinking boy!"
Y/n watched Neteyam flinch at his father's voice. Y/n stood, wobbly but firmly from the ground she'd been resting on in protest
"It was me Jake! He is the last person you should blame - " She started but was quickly cut off by him
" He is the oldest, and you - you are a spotter!  Why were you on the ground right when someone attacked the warship? What if you were near the attack huh? And do you wanna explain how the hell you managed to fall off of your Ikran?" He snapped, eyes alight in a way that could've set fire
Silence. All three teenagers suddenly looked at each other as if they were communicating in a language Jake couldn't understand
Just as Jake was about to say something to them, she tore her gaze away from the boys as she turned to him
"You can give me whatever punishment you want, but promise me you won't say anything to them?" She said, eyes downcast as Neteyam quickly moved forward as if to say something in her defense
Jake only put his hand up as a way to tell him not to speak, and she hated the defeated look on Neteyam's face as he realized he couldn't save Y/n from this punishment. Simply because she wouldn't let him.
"Promise. Right now." She said determined as Jake nodded slowly, his mouth set into a deep frown from the pure fury he felt in the heat of the moment
She paused for a moment as Neytiri approached them and let out a yelp at Y/n's appearance, immediately going to hold the girl
"Oh ma'Y/n, look at you." She said wincing, tilting the girls head back and forth to check for any other injuries. Her hands then moved to gently tighten the blooded bandaged wrapped around Y/n's abdomen.
"Ay, I am fine." She said embarrassed as Neytiri only looked at her strictly before going to asses Neteyam and Lo'ak injuries
Jake turned back to her, head cocked as he awaited her response
"I... may or may have not been the one who attacked the warship?" She said, already shrinking back as Jake and Neytiri both froze, Neteyam and Lo'ak's own figures watching Y/n in disbelief at her rare display of honesty that would manage to keep Neteyam out of trouble
"You did what?"
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Y/n's punishments had been postponed until her injuries were healed
Obviously, she wasn't allowed to fly her Ikran. She made a show of being disappointed when Jake told her she was to report to the medical tent and assist any warriors in need there
He didn't miss the glint in her eyes as she sat down next to Mo'at with a small smile. He knew she would be happy as long as she was helping the clan
When he'd come to the tent with wounds and blood running all over him after yet another successful raid, he requested that she treated him so that he could talk to her
"Having fun?" He asked, laying on the cot in front of her as she carefully grabbed Mo'at's usual ointments to carefully clean up the blood on his skin and disinfect his wounds
"No, not at all." She said
"Good. You shouldn't be having any fun after that stunt you pulled. " He grumbled as he closed his eyes. After a few seconds, he looked at her through his lashes and caught a glimpse of her lips pulled into a sneaky smile as she believed Jake didn't see right through her
He smiled softly to himself before closing his eyes, letting himself relax for just a few moments as she worked quietly on his wounds. The distant sounds of the warriors and the healers conversing in the medical tent and Y/n's gentle hands lulling him to sleep.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Y/n had been avoiding Neteyam for a while now.
She would look away quickly when he tried to catch her eye in a crowd and make up excuses to leave whenever he got within a ten feet radius of her, expertly managing to hide herself in the cleverest spots she could find in the moment and watch him look around with furrowed brows, confused as to where she so quickly disappeared.
She'd laugh behind her hand before skipping away.
But this time, he'd manage to surprise her instead.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
She was walking quietly, her steps moving slowly as she tip toed around the peacefully sleeping na'vi
It was dark, and Pandora's moon shined darkly from above
When she passed Lo'ak, she tickled him lightly and watched him actually laugh lightly in his sleep, making her let out a quiet snort as she continued her walk
What she didn't know was that there was a na'vi who had been awake long before her, his gaze watching her carefully as he copied her cunning maneuvers and followed her footsteps
She let out a small sound of victory as she made it through the maze of sleeping bodies and began to run towards her destination, Neteyam only feet behind as he silently lept after her
Finally, when her footsteps slowed, she let out a satisfied sound while lowering herself onto the patch of grass and rocks beneath her. She stretched her arms and legs as she curled in on herself, arms wrapping around her body for warmth as the wind blew soundly
Neteyam could see the moonlight shining on her figure, and for once, he could see her face clearly.
He was so used to seeing her face pulled into a scowl or having her fangs bared at him - he didn't even realize how much he'd miss to see her face at peace. Or how her shoulders lost their tension and relaxed, how she spread her legs comfortably in front of her.
The Sky People's appearance had made her more on guard then ever, and he understood why.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
The day Y/n and Neteyam got into their first fight had been something that would haunt Neteyam for as long as he'd live
He remembered they'd been merely eight cycles old, fighting over something stupid - a small and insignificant little wooden toy she'd accidentally broken
He was upset - his mother had carved it for him and he'd been waiting to play with it all day before she'd taken it without permission and proceeded to break it
It was an accident of course, but his anger took hold of him in a way like never before, and words that sounded nothing like him at all left his lips with hatred
"Go annoy your own family instead of me Y/n!"
He remembered the way her eyes shook with tears of confusion, as she tried prying the broken toy out of his hands to fix it
"I- the clan is my family! - let me fix the toy Neteyam I am sorry!" She cried, tears running down her face from embarrassment and confusion as he felt his anger snap again
"No! Go away!"
He was a child, and he was upset. He remembered the way he felt his heart break at the sight of his mother's broken toy in her small hands
But it was nothing compared to the look on her face when he'd yelled at her. The way she flinched as her ears fell flat, how she looked down at her feet as she finally began to understand what Neteyam had said before
Go annoy your own family instead of me.
Jake had come running in, asking what was wrong when he saw both children with puffy cheeks and tears running down them
Y/n took one look at Neteyam, eyes welled with tears, before ducking under Jake's long legs and running straight into the forest
Neteyam remembers after when he'd kissed her hands, holding them tightly as he apologized profusely. His father watching with concerned eyes as Y/n said she was fine, pushing him off and saying she wanted to be alone
He had whipped around to his father, desperate eyes as he pleaded to help him fix their friendship.
Jake let out a breath as he shook his head
"What you said was not ok, Neteyam. Give her time, alright?"
That night, he'd been tossing and turning in his hammock for almost an hour before getting up to speak to his parents about Y/n once again. His shame was rooted so far in his chest he felt it suffocating him and his ability to sleep
After seeing his parents hammock's completely empty, he heard their voices conversing quietly, away from where the children were sleeping
Y/n laid in front of them. Neytiri was cradling the girls head while she wept quietly, Jake's hands  holding her tenderly as he spoke to her quietly
It would take years for Neteyam to understand that they were explaining to Y/n what had really  happened to her family.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
A mistake was what he made, his eyes too fixed on her resting figure to see the small branch in his path as his foot stepped on it, the sound a deafening snap in the silence
Her knife was out in a instant, the sharp blue thing pointed right at him as she aimed it at the sound
Her eyes were drowsy, he could see the way she had to blink a couple of times before she recognized him.
She rolled her eyes before laying back dow, her back visibly more tense then before as she kept her back towards him
"Creep. Don't sneak up on me like that Neteyam." She said as he sat beside her, fingers running over the object in his hand
"You woke me up with all that stomping." He said, a small grin on his face as she looked back at him, unamused.
"Did you want something?" She sighed as she tried to get comfortable again, shifting as he laid his head down next to hers
"Yes, I..." He started, but found himself struggling to find the right words
"Yes- I-" She mocked him, letting out a quiet laugh as he huffed, trying to make sure she didn't hear even a hint of embarrassment in his voice
"I needed to give you something. It is very, very important. Very." He emphasized as he sat up, Y/n sat up too as she looked at him confused now
"If it is anything besides food-"
"Y/n." He said again as she turned her body to face him, crossing her legs as she leaned towards him and stuck her tongue out
"Stop that" He said laughing, gently pushing her shoulders back as she clapped her hands together excitedly
"Well I wanna see now!" She said excitedly as Neteyam shook his head
"Close your eyes." He said softly. She complied in seconds, her hands covering her face as she begun to rock back and forth patiently
He placed the wooden piece in front of her before gently removing her hands from her face
The first place her eyes darted was to his face, but then, they moved down
She blinked a few times, her eyes taking in what exactly was in front of her
Neteyam watched her, carefully taking her hands in his once again as he looked at her with a passion that had been ignited ever since he'd first laid his eyes on her
"I - well, firstly, I wanted to thank you for taking the blame for me. For protecting me, even when I could not protect you." He said, Y/n's eyes moved to his as she heard his voice break at the mention of her injuries, at the fact he wasn't able to reach her in time
"And...I want to thank you for, well, being you." He said, looking into her eyes with an intensity she had grown to familiarize herself with when it came to him
"You are selfless and brave and truly a gift Y/n. I... am sorry that I am the worst friend ever - I am sorry I have so many flaws that I cannot conceal around you, but I hope you know that you are the only one in this world I hold so close to my heart. The only one who knows me like nobody else" He whispered, moving her hand over his heart as it beat lively under her palm
They sat there like that for a few moments, staring into each others eyes before Y/n moved to pick up the small thing that laid between them
It was her.
She was on her Ikran, Amay's wings spread beautifully as Y/n sat atop her with the biggest smile possible on her face
"It was a project I started years ago, I begged mother to teach me how to carve wood for this exact purpose. But, I stopped because I couldn't get you to look at me with a smile. You've been avoiding me these past few days, but I've known exactly where you were every moment. I caught moments you believed I wasn't there, where you were smiling freely and laughing, and Y/n - it was the most beautiful thing I have ever been able to see." He breathed out
Y/n was sure her heart was going to burst through her chest and land right into his hands.
"I was finally able to catch that picture of you smiling, engrave it into my mind so it'll never leave. And that's how I made this." He said holding up the carved piece with pride
"Do you like it? Or are Amay's wings too small- " He began jokingly but also nervously as she watched him silently, before she cut him off by tackling him with so much force he let out a yelp of surprise
"Like it? Do I like it?" She asked, laughing as she pinned him to the ground. She hovered over him with the exact same smile he'd spent hours carving. He let her hold complete control over him as he blinked a couple times before a smile broke onto his face at the sight
"Well, it is pretty good, right?" He asked, nudging her with a silly grin that had her break out into laughter
She hugged him tightly, and Neteyam was surprised at her rare show of affection
It was a feeling he'd only dreamt about, a thing he'd been chasing.
Smiling softly, he wrapped his arms around her and nuzzled his face into her hair, breathing in her familiar scent as her hands moved to hold his
They spent the next day making faces at each other when no one was looking, gently poking each other when close enough, and looking at each other whenever Lo'ak did something stupid they wanted to laugh it
It wouldn't take long for everyone else to figure out the love blooming right in front of their eyes - a love that was growing beautifully.

a love so pure - CARVED TREASURES
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Awa'atlu was an island Y/n could never imagine leaving, for this island was her home.
She treasured the days she'd awake with the sun shining on her, the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore, the days her spirit sister would visit, and the nights she'd spend laying in the sand
Today was no different, her usual ritual of laying by the water before going back to her hammock to fall asleep and be exposed to the elements of Pandora seemed to be something she looked forward to at the end of everyday
Recently however, the Sully family had made an appearance on her beloved island, and her mind had been all over the place
The reason they were here was to get away from the war against the Sky People, but Y/n would always wonder if their war would follow them into her home
She'd think a lot about this, weighing how her clan is effected everyday with their presence. She see's how they struggle to adjust to their way of life- and she'd finally understood how they felt as she imagined being forced to leave her home and start a new life in a completely new world
She held sympathy and admiration for the family, how much effort and true dedication they put into becoming a part of life on the island
She laid on the sand a little longer, breathing in the familiar scent of the sea around her before she lifted herself up, walking back to the marui and falling asleep seconds after laying in her hammock. She dreamt of the deep blue shades of the ocean that night.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
After breakfast, Y/n began her morning. She collected various colorful fruits, eating them near the rocks as she drew in the sand, smiling at the sea shells she expertly drew
She didn't know when she found the stone, but she remembered the way it shined in the sunlight - how it practically called out her name
It was jagged and rough in her hand. Feeling the need to smooth it's edges, she moved to sit on the nearby rocks and pulled out her knife as she began carving
She didn't hear his footsteps, nor she did feel his shadow cast over her
But while she held the stone in her hand, she frowned as she noticed it no longer gleamed the way it did when the sun was shining on it
Realizing her sun had been blocked, she looked up
She wasn't met with the rays of the golden sun, but instead, the light of his golden eyes
He was looking at her with a friendly smile, his hands moved to settle himself on the rocks as he sat across her
"I am sorry to intrude, but I am curious to see how you carve your sea stones." He said.
His voice was smooth, soothing even, and he spoke slowly in a way to show he meant no harm
Y/n was surprised, her eyes finally able to take in his appearance up close
His braids fell around his face, framing it. And his eyes were the most beautiful shade of yellow, intense and alluring
She finally smiled, happy he had taken an interest in something she believed only she found interesting
She remembers the times when she was younger, how she would lay in her mother's lap while she told Y/n all sorts of different stories - each more fascinating then the last. She'd mindlessly be carving whatever she could find as a way to have her hands do something while she listened to her mother.
Whenever her mother would reach the climax of the stories, Y/n's hand would move faster as she carved nervously for the characters in her mothers story -  or when a story didn't end the way she wanted to -  she'd find herself practically stabbing the stones she'd been carving. She'd look at the stones years later, and remember each mark made portrayed exactly how she felt.
"You do not intrude." She said kindly, moving as she sat closer to him so he could see what she was doing
"These stone's come from the water, and are usually sharp, too sharp to hold comfortably. A knife like this-" She said as she held hers up, one that was adorned with all sorts of different small shells
"- is what I like to use. It helps round the edges and let me create my own crevices and grooves into it while maintaining the original shape."
He nodded his head, his eyes watching her hands as she gently pushed the blade inward and began carving
They sat there for almost an hour, Y/n saying every step aloud as he nodded his head along. Neteyam stayed quiet for most of the time as he watched her, but he would occasionally ask her questions with a curious glint in his eyes
"Look!" She exclaimed happily, holding up the beautifully carved object that looked so much like a gem now
He let out a breath of true respect, as he understood how much time and effort it had taken her to create the piece
"Wow. This is a talent, you understand?" He said as he held the rock in his palm, twisting and turning it over as he looked at every intricate detail with admiration in his eyes
"Thank you," She said, truly grateful as he suddenly turned to her with a sheepish grin as he returned her the sone
"I never asked you for your name, did I?"
"No. But I know yours." She said, smiling as he looked away slightly embarrassed
"It seems the entire island does, I am not too surprised." He spoke as he turned back to her, staring once again with those incomparable eyes
"Y/n." She said
"Y/n." He repeated. For some reason, the way he said her name had her heart fluttering in her chest
She stared at her stone before she turned to him, beaming
"I want you to have this, it is a gift." She said, placing the stone back in his hand and closing his fingers around it
"Oh no - I couldn't, Y/n- " He started, his eyes suddenly widening
"A gift." She repeated gently
He stared at her, then at the stone that now resided in his hand, and then back to her.
"You have a generous heart. Thank you Y/n, truly." He said smiling, closing his fingers around it as a yell was heard from behind him
"Neteyam!" The voice called, one Y/n quickly recognized as his mothers
He quickly turned around, wincing as he heard the urgency in her voice. It seemed like she'd been looking for him for quite a while.
"I am sorry - I need to go. I will not forget this kindness!" He yelled over his shoulder as he ran in his mothers direction, causing Y/n to tilt her head back and let out a laugh that had him turn around for one last glance
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"And you! Where have you been Y/n?" Unalyo said as she sat next to the girl
It was dinner time now, the clan gathered around numerous fires lit for the meal as many na'vi conversed and prayed
"Very busy, didn't even notice how quickly the day flew by." Y/n said, a teasing grin on her face as Unaylo sighed
"You were up to something, I am sure of it! I will find out soon enough, friend." She said, laughing as she interlocked their arms and walked towards the rest of their friends, who were gathered around the fire.
The girls conversed together, Y/n's mind, like always, elsewhere.
But this time, she wasn't thinking about her time at the ocean or the next time she and her friends would go swimming
Instead, she thought about his eyes
She imagined how beautiful they would look in the light of the fires
Realizing he must be at dinner, she perked up and began searching for the familiar blue family
Her eyes scanned over familiar figures - before finally laying on his
The family sat together, like they always did. They conversed with each other and Y/n watched with a smile as she began to understand the dynamic of his family a little more
They were misunderstood. She knew this now. She felt her fear dwindling into shame as she realized that this family had never been a threat to her home.
She watched them a little longer, paying attention to the way Neteyam would place the food in his mouth. Y/n read his lips, which said "This is good!" as a form of encouragement for the youngest sully girl who gagged at the fish in front of her
She giggled, realizing it must be difficult for the little girl to change her entire appetite
Almost as if Neteyam had heard the sound himself, he lifted his face
His eyes searched amongst the na'vi with furrowed brows, and Y/n caught a glimpse of his hair. She felt her breath get caught in her chest
He had managed to incorporate the carved stone into his braids, and it seemed to be the statement piece in his hair
He was something mesmerizing. A gift.
She didn't even realize he had caught her gaze, as her eyes flicked from his hair back to his eyes
Startled, she blinked quickly as he held their eye contact, a smile blooming onto his face
He gently tilted his head towards the ocean, away from the clan
Seemingly excusing himself from his family, he got up and began walking in that direction. He looked back and sent her a single wave, gesturing her over.
Her smile seemed to be something he loved, as she watched his ears perk up at the sight
Her footprints were imprinted in the sand seconds later as she walked towards his eager figure  that glowed in the moonlight
That night, she dreamt about Neteyam.

PANDORA'S LAKES
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Neteyam!"
Her voice was a squeal over the splash of water that came over her
Grinning, he brought his hands towards the sky before they came crashing down into the water once again
She laughed as the explosion of water found it's way onto them, drenching their already soaked figures
A sharp gasp came from behind as Lo'ak walked into the frigid stream. His teeth clattered and he tried his best to maintain a cool face as he felt the true nature of the cold, cold water.
"What's wrong baby baby bro! You cold?" Neteyam's teasing voice called out with a playful smirk as he watched Lo'ak approach them, his hands clasped together in an attempt to keep them warm
"Nah, just- wanted to hang out with you guys" He said, his body beginning to relax in the water as he finally reached the pair, who were supposed to be gathering food for dinner.
"And what are you guys doing, anyway? Whatever it is, I want in." He said as he tipped his head towards the dimming sky, breathing in the wonderful smells of the flora and pure nature that surrounded them.
"We were doing chores, until this skxawng decided to take a detour!" She said, grinning at Neteyam while he shook his head, smiling fondly
"Don't believe a word she says. This was her idea completely," Neteyam spoke truthfully as his head dipped underwater
Both her and Lo'ak jolted and shrieked from surprise as Neteyam pulled them under, already swimming away and laughing at their shock
Under the water, the three swam after each other. Pulling each others tails, making faces, and hiding behind various corals and vines as an attempt to keep the other na'vi friend from reaching them.
Suddenly, y/n made a face, showing something of discomfort and swam upwards towards the surface right after.
Neteyam and Lo'ak locked eyes under the water, both conveying their concern and confusion. Then, without missing a beat, they swam after her.
Taking a deep breath as they reached the surface, they watched y/n clutch her chest, wheezing.
"You ok?" Lo'ak asked, eyes furrowed as his hands reached out towards her. Neteyam however, was already whacking her back, thinking she got something stuck in her lungs, and was desperately trying to get it out
After shoving him off and letting out something between a sob and a laugh, she turned towards the two boys
"I laughed-underwater! I think I swallowed half the lake through my nose!" She exclaimed, hand on her chest as Lo'ak let out a belly laugh that made him move his own hand to his chest because of how hard he was laughing
Neteyam scowled, but couldn't stay frowning for long as a smile crept onto his face
"Y/n, you scared me. Thought something happened." He mumbled, slightly embarrassed as Lo'ak turned towards him
"Did you see Neteyam? Started hitting your back like it did something to him! You know, I don't think the water she inahled would've killed her, but the way you were slapping her back could've," Lo'ak exclaimed, failing to calm his laughter at his brothers hilarious reaction
Y/n giggled at Lo'ak, covering her smile with her hands. Neteyam just rolled his eyes, before looking up to the sky
"Eclipse is soon. We must finish collecting those fruits unless we want to be hanged by our tails, Y/n." Neteyam said concerned, as he grabbed her and his brothers hand, leading the pair towards land
"Ay, must we?" She groaned, grabbing the hand Neteyam offered as he pulled her out of the water
"Yes." He said, offering a small smile of encouragement as they helped Lo'ak out of the water and turned towards Pandora's plentiful and giving forest
"I guess I could help. You know, since I'm here already" Lo'ak said proudly, crossing his arms over his chest with a grin as Y/n groaned
"But what?" Neteyam asked, already suspecting his brothers response
"But you two need to help me with my chores tomorrow, before eclipse" He said "Please, mothers punished me with extra and I really don't want to have to do it all. Besides, you guys are getting help out of it!" He said, waving his hands around to emphasize his words. He said it as if he were giving them the offer of a lifetime
Y/n looked towards Neteyam, whose eyes were already on her
Straightening her posture, a little from surprise and the other from nervousness, she cleared her throat
"Uh, yea sure. It better not be a lot of work though." She said to Lo'ak, still suspicious of just how much work Neytiri had given him
Grinning, he grabbed the basket Neteyam had left near the lake before he began walking towards the forest, practically skipping actually.
Y/n let out a sigh, knowing she and Neteyam had probably agreed to help with way more then they had intended to
"It's ok. We'll do it together." He said gently after seeing her surprised reaction from him looking at her so intensely
"Yes, yes. We'll be fine." She spoke affirmingly, looking at him with a small smile as he grabbed her hand and began following after Lo'ak
"Wait up baby bro!"
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Great mother!" Y/m exclaimed as she struggled to heave the basket overflowing with all sorts of beautiful and delicious fruits through the forest without tripping
Lo'ak beamed as he held his own bucket, dropping fruits here and there without even noticing, Neteyam already picking them up and placing them into his own basket behind him
"Told you I'd help!" He said as they approached the village, arms filled
The three teens arrived, grins stretching from ear to ear as they proudly presented the plentiful array they had gathered for their dear clan.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Y/n was nervous
She had found herself staring at Neteyam a few too many times during last nights dinner
There were some days she knew she wanted to be around him a little more, hear him talk a while longer, watch him play with his sisters too
Sometimes the feeling was overwhelming, her heart seemed too squeeze so painfully tight at the beautiful sight of the boy she was so endlessly proud to call her friend
She found herself growing quiet when she was looking at him. Too in awe to truly function right
She remembers a moment , where Lo'ak had to physically clap his hands in front of her face midst conversation because she was staring so intensely at Neteyam, she had completely forgotten about the boy she was speaking to right in front of her
flashback to five hours ago
"What? Y/n did you even hear what I said?" He said sounding annoyed, grabbing a piece of food from her tray to try and get her attention
"What? Oh, yes, sorry I was- looking for my mother" She quickly said, turning her face to try and keep Lo'ak from seeing the red that was surely blooming on her face
He stared at her. Eyes crinkling as Y/n felt her cheeks flush even more
"Uh huh. Then who's that sitting right there?" He asked, pointing in the exact opposite direction of Neteyam, where her mother sat next to Neytiri
The two women's heads were bowed in laughter, as they conversed about something passionately, their husbands sitting right besides with smiles just as big
Shit.
"Yes Lo'ak. I see that now" She said through gritted teeth, but she began to panic as he looked towards Neteyam's direction, where she was looking before when he was talking
"Lo'ak it was nothing, now tell me- what were you saying? Come on, it sounded important!" She pleaded, holding his arm, rocking his whole body, trying desperately to keep his idiot mind from realizing whom she was looking at and why
He turned back, an unfaltering grin on his face
"Y/n." He singsonged, realizing
"Oh no" She groaned, her head in her hands as she realized what he was about to say
"You like Aìkewl!" He whispered with a grin
Y/n struggled to form a single word as she sputtered, but in her mind, the perfect sentence had already formed
No you skxawng!
She turned once again to where Lo'ak was looking, and realized what he'd seen. Neteyam stood there, tall in all his glory, but he was conversing with one of his fellow warriors, Aìkewl. Of course Lo'ak would assume the blush was from him!
"No, Lo'ak, you do not understand-" She whispered, once again grabbing his hands and trying to get him to look at her
"I do not like him, I was-" But she was cut off by Lo'ak, who was grinning excitedly
"Then what was all that blush, huh? I know it wasn't for Neteyam. And there's no one else you could've been cheesing that hard over!" He said, clapping his hands as if he'd made the most amazing discovery of his life
"Hush! You scream as if you want Eywa herself to hear you!" Y/n says, pulling him down
But Lo'ak was too busy looking at Neteyam and Aìkewl.
two hours later
Neteyam found a grinning Lo'ak and an angry looking Y/n
"What's up with you two?" He asked, smiling at the pair who was sitting on the ground. Lo'ak jumped up and pulled Neteyam down to where they were sitting
"We gotta tell you something bro. You need to help Y/n out." He spoke, quickly. Practically bouncing up and down
"Lo'ak" She whispered harshly, but Neteyam saw in her eyes she looked genuinely nervous
"What's wrong?" He finally said, feeling uneasy as he watched Y/n turn her face away from him
"She likes Aìkewl! He's your friend, isn't he? We need to get him to talk to her somehow!" Lo'ak said, eyes bright and excited for his dear friend Y/n, who he simply thought was just embarrassed
Silence.
That was what met their ears.
Y/n was covering her face now. It was still turned away, but she couldn't even begin to imagine the look on Neteyam's face.
After a few moments that seemed like a lifetime, she heard a rough voice
"Aìkewl?" Neteyam questioned
"Yes?" Lo'ak answered hesitantly, due to his brothers reaction. He'd expected him to tease Y/n with him about it!
Silence once again.
Y/n let out something close to a squeak, finally removing her hands from her face
Neteyam was looking at her.
His eyes...
He looked like he had a million questions to ask
He held their eye contact for a heartbeat. Two heartbeats. Three. Then, he stood up swiftly in an instant, breaking it
"We have to do Lo'ak's chores, Y/n. I'll meet you then." Was all he said, before turning and leaving
Her jaw physically dropped, and she turned to Lo'ak, who was scratching his neck and avoiding her eye contact completely.
He then looked at her, sheepishly, "Jeez, don't know what his problem is, am I right?" He said, letting out a nervous laugh as he watched Y/n bare her fangs at him, right before tackling him.
one hour later
"Neteyam?"
His ears perked up at the most beautiful sound his heart had grown to love.
He turned, and Y/n stood there.
Y/n.
Her hair was pulled back, and she had changed her clothes. Adding a simple bag which slung from her shoulders, in it was where the plants they were going to collect necessary for his grandmothers special medicine would go
The bioluminescence plant's light reflected off her skin, and her eyes...
Eywa, her eyes
He felt his throat physically tighten at the sight of her
"Y/n." Was all he said, eyes never leaving her
She shuffled her feet, looking at him with slight shame he did not understand
"I wanted to talk to you, about-"
"Don't. Don't worry about it. Come on, eclipse is near. I don't want you to get in trouble for going home late." He said, inclining his head towards the patch of growing plants
She nodded, wordlessly. He didn't miss the pink color that grazed her delicate neck and cheeks.
She was embarrassed. He'd figured that much. She didn't want him to know she liked his friend, he concluded.
They searched through the many plants, grabbing the necessary plants and putting them all into her bag
She watched his fingers, they were tense as he not so gently pulled the plants from the ground. Her own fingers were clumsy, her mind elsewhere.
They worked in silence, until he broke it.
"How long have you liked him?" He finally asked
His mind still couldn't believe she liked Aìkewl! He had time to control his feelings before seeing her again after their interaction with Lo'ak, yet he still managed to lose control.
When had they ever spoken? Only a handful of times, and she never seemed this flustered around Aìkewl the way she was now.
Her eyes snapped to him, and without missing a beat, she answered.
"I do not like him."
He blinked. Wondering if he heard her wrong. She didn't like him?  Then why didn't she deny it before? And why was she covering her face when Lo'ak told him? Why was she blushing!
"Then-well, who do you like?" He finally said, unable to understand what was going on. If it wasn't Aìkewl, then who?
"You." She croaked
Silence. Once again
She didn't cover her face this time, her eyes just watched to see his reaction, because she didn't want to miss it like last time
His shoulders physically froze, his ears shot up in an instant, and she watched his tail flick lively behind him when before it sat quietly.
She watched his mouth try to form words, but he failed over and over again to even say something.
Oh Eywa. Why had she said that?
She visibly cringed at her words
"Who do you like?" "You."  Great mother! What sane na'vi says that?!
Neteyam finally closed his mouth, and settled on a smile. One that was so big she was sure he was going to laugh at her
"Are you going to laugh at me?" She asked weakly, even more ashamed then she was before as she looked down at her hands, drawing swirls in the grass beneath them to avoid his gaze
"Y/n," he said in a way she'e never heard before. Fondly, so sweetly she didn't even realize her own tail swished happily behind her at the sound
He grabbed her hands, brushing his fingers over her knuckles as he moved closer, so close she could feel his breath on her.
"Yes?" She whispered, as her eyes took in the details on his face. They've never been so close together. She realized she'd miscounted the freckles on his face as she looked right beneath one of his eyes.
She felt his hand smooth over hers, an attempt to calm her and he reached out and cradled her face in the palm of his hands, fingers moving to undo her hair and let it fall freely around her face
It was out of her usual braids, and fell softly around her.
His eyes watched her, his gaze soft yet so strong as he moved his face even closer than before
"Did I ever tell you how much I adore you?" He asked quietly, watching her through his eyes as Y/n's hands tightened her grip of their intertwined hands, her pupils growing.
"How much I love your laugh? Your bravery? Your heart? Or, how about when you wear your hair like this?" He spoke, his tone hushed as he ran his fingers through her hair
She closed her eyes, feeling his words settle in her soul
"Neteyam." She said. Eyes opening. A plea
He brought her closer, brushing her lips, before kissing her with all the passion he's held contained for so damn long.

neteyam x tuktirey's teacher - THE CLANS KARYU
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
The girl was born to teach.
She was born to heal, to understand, to spread her life through the clan.
Y/n believed Eywa had one purpose only for Y/n; to love.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Come, come children!" Her voice rose above theirs, as she made the gesture of a circle with her hands
Their voices quieted, excited whispers as they tumbled over each other, running and racing and laughing as they tried their best to get front row seats to hear whatever tale their beloved teacher had for them tonight.
They sat on the grass, huddled close together with smiles so big it made Y/n's own heart swoon
To hurt the heart of a child, any child, felt like a physical wound to her
Their innocence, their purity- was a beautiful thing. A thing Eywa had given her the privilege of being able to see
How she yearned to help them grow, watch them turn into warriors, into healers- watch them fill the role they were born for, just as she did
As they quieted down, they looked towards her with round eyes filled with wonder and waited patiently for her to begin.
"Tell me children, who among you know the story of Toruk Makto?" Her voice rang out, clear as day as they all rose their hands upward excitedly, their laughter a rising wave
"Many of you, I see..." She started, but trailed off as she recognized Toruk Makto's youngest daughter, Tuktirey, staring at Y/n with something she hadn't seen before
The girls gaze did not fail to make her heart skip. Yes, children looked at her with admiration, appreciation, giddiness even- But this girl, her gaze held nothing but absolute love.
Y/n's own eyes softened, as she sent the girl a small secretive grin. She jumped a bit, surprised she had been noticed, but did not fail to send a grin ten times as big back
Y/n laughed as the girls small fangs peaked through her smile, turning back towards the other awaiting children as her voice rose once again
"The story of our hero, who lives among this very clan. And the one's before him too," She spoke, her voice projecting to every child's awaiting ears
She continued her tale, the children occasionally bursting out in laughter at her entertaining tale telling, some brought to tears as she recited their beautiful history in such a voice that had the children closing their eyes and envisioning every word
Every now and then, her eyes would trail back to Tuktirey, only because she couldn't help it. The way she had looked at her was the way Y/n dreamed to make a child feel. Safe. Happy.
As she concluded her story, the children would always be quiet. In deep thought, thinking solely on the story they had just been told.
Today was a little different however, Tuktirey's hand found Y/n's as she stared up at her
"Y/n! You were talking about my dad! Did you know this? My dad is Toruk Makto!" She said, hands clapping excitedly
"Yes Tuktirey, one of the greatest warriors! And you're just like him, aren't you?" She responded, bending down to the young girls height with a smile
"I want to be, Y/n" She replied dreamily, her hands squeezing Y/n's before she turned to her once again
"And my mama too, she is the best! She makes the best food and is the best with her bow. Did you know it was my grandfather's?"
The two of them spoke for a while, Tuktirey talking about anything and everything, the two of them giggling at the silly things she said
"Tuktirey, it is late. Come now, let me walk you home." Y/n said, standing up and lending a hand to the small girl, who stood with a pout
"Eclipse already?" She asked sadly, as Y/n squeezed her hand
"Yes, already." She replied laughing
They walked back quietly, holding hands as the sounds of Pandora's many creatures at night  filled the silence
Once she spotted Neytiri and Jake, she gently let go of Tuktirey's hand and bent down to her level to say her goodnights
"Now, you're going to be a good girl and get some food to eat, yes? It is very important, not only for our bodies but for our minds-" Y/n said as she gently tapped the girls forehead, who turned her face away giggling
"Yes, yes! I will eat, but- won't you say hello to my parents? You can tell them how they were in your story!" She said excitedly, not even waiting for an answer before latching onto her hand once again and pulling her in their direction
"Oh, no no it is ok, you must not worry about that- I don't want to disturb-"
"Mama! Dad!"
Well, too late for that.
Y/n stumbled forward so flustered she didn't even have the time to react as Tuktirey ran and stood on the other side next to her parents, smiling from ear to ear
Neytiri was the first one to see her, her gaze softening as she recognized the young girl in front of her. Jake's eyes were on her next, a curious glint in them as he watched his daughter and wife smile at the girl
"Toruk Makto-Neytiri, I see you" She started, bowing her head as she tried to calm her heart
"I see you, Karyu Y/n" Neytiri said, bowing her head as Jake's ears perked up at the name
"Y/n? The famous Y/n we've been hearing all about?" He said, voice so happy she was genuinely surprised
"Oh, yes. That is me! Though, I would just like to ask, how did you hear of me?" She said giving the man a confused smile as she tilted her head curiously
He was the clan's leader, there were many aspects he had to know about, but teaching was not one of his main priorities. That responsibility had been taken by the elders, who took great pride in helping the children with this - especially the orphans who had lost their parents and family in the war.
"Neteyam, that boy, he's always talking about you! Did you know-"
A sharp intake of breath was taken by Neytiri as she quickly interrupted him
"Yes, but Y/n is known for her wonderful teaching, isn't she Ma'Jake?" She asked, her gaze something piercingly lethal, as if she was daring him to utter another word
"Well, yes of course. You are, the best at that. It's just that-"
"Y/n and Tuktirey, will you tell me of the stories told tonight? I know you are a wonderful storyteller, I would love to hear them" She said, her voice strained as she looked at her husband in a gaze she did not understand
She was beginning to panic. Their son spoke about her? Neteyam? The warrior?
She tried looking for Tuktirey for help, but her eyes landing on another figure, Lo'ak.
He was laughing as he watched his parents, and not a moment later, running off as if to find someone
Her heart beat quickened, and she was sure she had never been more confused in her life
"I can leave, if that it was you want? I would not want to intrude on any private discussion-" She said, her feet already moving to take a step back as all three, Jake, Neytiri, and Tuktirey responded with a quick "No!"
"You should come eat with us, yes?" Neytiri finally decided to say, a satisfied smile on her face as she finally ended the very thorny conversation
Y/n stared at her, eyes blinking rapidly as her gaze went from Neytiri to Tuktirey to Jake, all who were looking at her awaitingly, Neytiri almost seeming to be holding her breath
Finally, Y/n smiled, and nodded her heard vigorously
"Yes, Yes thank you - I would be honored."
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
It wasn't everyday you got to eat directly with the clan leader, Toruk Makto, himself.
But there Y/n was, talking to seemingly the friendliest man ever, and the Neytiri, during dinner.
Initially, Tuk was with all three of them, until she'd run off with her friends. Y/n started with feeling another surge of panic as she was left alone, but Neytiri simply placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and led her to where she and Toruk Makto were eating their food together
The conversation started with Y/n feeling overwhelmed and a little embarrassed, but before she knew it, she was giggling with the biggest smile ever on her face as Jake cracked joke after joke, Neytiri only shaking her head with her own smile as they all conversed together
They talked about many things, but Y/n found herself distracted as her mind strayed to a certain boy
Y/n would be lying if she said she didn't find Neteyam attractive. She'd be lying if she said she didn't admire him-his ways of handling himself and how brave and loving he was with his younger siblings.
She remembers the few times they had made eye contact, how fast her heart would beat as it seemed like he was staring straight into her soul. She remembers the even fewer times she was absolutely sure he was staring at her during dinner
But those nights, when she would lay in her hammock and look towards the stars in the sky, she'd shake her head in frustration
Of course he wasn't looking at me. You can't think that way, silly .
She'd always brushed if off, figuring it was her imagination having too much fun
But now when she thought of what Y/n figured was a slip-up on Jakes part, she realized maybe, just maybe, her gut was right. He had admitted that Neteyam did know who she was and  had spoken about her, to his family of all people!
She forced herself to pay attention to the two people in front of her, as she emerged herself into the conversation completely to keep herself of making anymore crazy possibilities.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"NETEYAM!"
Neteyam watched as his prey, the one he'd been tracking for the past hour, stood upright at the horrible sound of his baby brothers screaming voice and ran away with so much speed, he barely saw the blur that whipped past
He hissed, turning around to see Lo'ak tripping over branches as he ran towards him
"Lo'ak, you scared my prey away you idiot!" He snapped, gently slapping the back of his head as he sighed, turning to look at the panting boy in front of him
Neteyam gave a small smile at him, as he realized he must've ran all over the forest looking for him
"Now, what do you want Skwang? And why did you run all the way here? You do realize-"
"Y/n!" He managed to heave between pants, hands on the forest floor as he looked up to see his brothers reaction- a sickening grin on his face as the color completely left Neteyam's face, his once grinning expression replaced with one filled with so much fear that Lo'ak had to physically restrain himself from laughing in his face
For a moment, all he could hear was the blood rushing to his head.
After a couple of seconds, he managed to respond
"What?" He said, while Lo'ak only managed to let out a wheeze at the sound of Neteyam's voice
"You heard me bro, Y/n. Mom and dad- they were talking to her. You know what dad said? He goes- he goes- " But Lo'ak couldn't finish his sentence, as it seemed his heart failed and he fell into a laughing fit while Neteyam looked at him, mortified.
"What?! Lo'ak, what did he say? Lo'ak! Oh Great Mother!" He said desperately, shaking Lo'ak to get him to stop laughing. Once he saw the tears of laughter in the boy's eyes, he realized how badly his parents must've accidentally embarrassed him.
Knowing his dad, he'd probably said something he most definitely was not  supposed to say without knowing.
Slinging his bow over his back, he yanked Lo'ak off the ground and began running back, yelling over his shoulder that he won't forgive Lo'ak if he's lying.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Lo'ak, unfortunately, was not lying.
He'd managed to watch the clan have their dinner from afar, keeping an eye out for his parents as he crept around
Once his eyes landed on them, he physically winced as he watched the girl he'd been crushing on for years talking to his mother and father.
He knew with the way his father kept looking around expectedly was for Neteyam, but he didn't step out of his hiding spot without making a quick prayer to the Great Mother to ease his embarrassment as much as she could bare to
He fixed his hair, positioned his bow as perfectly as he could, and stepped into the clan like a warrior walking into war
It might as well have been that with the way his parents eyes latched onto him in an instant, like a predator to prey.
"Neteyam! Come here boy!"
She turned around, curious eyes finding his, and his heart physically stopped beating
Jake blinked, watching Neteyam completely freeze about a dozen meters away from them, staring at Y/n like he'd just seen a ghost
Jake let out a nervous laugh, as he waved his hand, gesturing his son over once again
Neytiri winced as her son made their way towards them, bumping into two other na'vi on the way and clumsily standing in front of them in a way she'd never seen before. He looked tense, his tail flicking behind him with his ears up in alert. He quickly bowed his head to greet his mother and father
He turned to her next, and finally let out the breath he'd been holding for so long
Up close, he was able to see features he hadn't been able to see from afar
A beautifully unique set of freckles he'd never seen before lined her face in a way that was alarmingly beautiful. Her neck was delicate, and adorned with a handmade necklace - his mind immediately imagined her bent over vine and holding a knife, expertly creating the jewelry with her slim brows pulled together in concentration
Once he reigned in his thoughts, which were crashing together like waves in a storm, he could only think of one thing clearly; Eywa took her time in creating her. And as he looked into the brightest eyes he'd ever seen, he knew in an instant he would never meet someone like her again.
"I see you, Y/n," He breathed out, slightly surprised with himself for being able to get the words out.
" I see you, Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'ita," She said, her lips pulled into the prettiest smile he'd ever seen as his heart skipped a beat again
He grinned at her, noticing the faint pink blooming on her cheeks
Was that from him? Or was she just shy?
"Acquainted now, aren't we?" Jake said from behind, grinning like he'd achieved the match of the century
Neteyam knew in that moment, he'd never be more thankful for his father's intervention as he watched the girl smile softly at him, a knowing look in her eyes that said she knew exactly how he felt for her
Neteyam had a feeling he knew how she felt about him too.
