This isn't to say that he didn't do anything wrong because he did (which narratively sets up growth), I'm just trying to say that I think some of you are projecting onto Eve in a way that is unfair to Jimmy. He was using his connection with Eve to gather information, but there are a few things that I think should be taken into consideration.

1. He is a journalist. His job is to gather information.

2. He's best friends with Superman/Clark Kent. He is trying to help save his friend.

3. Literal lives are at stake. He is on a time crunch, and Eve is his best and only shot at doing anything to help save the situation.

The calling her "mutant toes" in his phone contact is mean, yeah, but also it is human. People are jerks. Jimmy was also actively embarrassed about being in contact with her, which makes sense when you consider the fact that she was dating Lex Luther at the time. So, in my opinion, at least it seemed more like an excuse he made up to keep the relationship from progressing while he wasn't interested.

Anyways my final point is that I feel like it takes away some of Eve's own agency to try and say that she was just manipulated by two men the entire movie. Eve isn't stupid. She knew that Jimmy wanted information, and that's why she used it as leverage when asking to spend time with him. It's an "if I do this for you, you do this for me" situation, which keeps the power in Eve's hands.
