I guess I blog now <3

In my family, cosmetology was almost hereditary. I feel like I grew up in a salon.  When I wasn't in school, I was at the shop watching my mom work. Begging her to add crazy colors to my hair and explain every step of what she was doing and why. She is the reason I know everything I know about colors; what compliments, what contrasts, and what clashes.

Regardless of the fact that my sister would let me do her hair when she got ready for work, or that my friends would all want MY supervision when they were cutting and coloring their own hair (I guess they thought I had hair talent by proxy), I didn’t really have the whole hair-styling gene. I couldn’t hold the foils and paint the color at the same time or use the shears without almost losing a finger, but I desperately wanted to find my niche in the world that made beauty a reality. After realizing that hair couldn’t be my thing, the way that it was my mother’s or my aunt’s, I followed paths uncharted. Six years of college taught me a few things about myself: I love to write, I love to learn, I’m creative (even if I can’t draw), I’m not easily embarrassed and I always feel like my best self when my makeup is done.

Let me tell you, there is nothing quite like paying for two bachelor’s degrees and then finding out that you want a life that's painted in lipstick, but here I am. I’m excited to learn more about myself and what I’m capable of.
