Okay!
So I’ve been feeling real good about my art progress as of late.
This is a drawing I did of the pretty popular pose Sailor Moon is seen in, but it was completely freehand. I used to be awful and drawing things from reference, but I’m super happy with how this turned out. AND I LOVE ALL THE EFFECTS OF PROCREATE!!!
I did a lot of technical work today and I think I’m already finding out how beneficial it is. I’m excited to see where this takes me!

Omggggg okay, so I haven’t posted here in a while, but let me just say...... this is probably one of the greatest things I’ve ever done. I decided to play around with backgrouds, something I rarely do, and I think it turned out SICK! And I also played around with the effects of things, specifically on the shadows and the light, and HOLY COW it made such a big difference.
I’ve also realized that maybe I should draw things I love, rather than things I “should” draw. I think I’m early enough in my drawing journey that I need to just get myself to practice, so if that means doing Pokemon every day, I’m gonna do Pokemon every day. Plus, it’s something I want to get good at anyway.
SO YEAH! GREAT progress today.

Okay so it’s day... well it’s actually later than days 10 and 11 but I didn’t do any major pieces that I wanted to include for a few days... but I wanted to put something in the progress journal so here I am.
I have started doing 20 minutes of gesture drawings every day, and I can tell it’s improving both my ability to draw the physical form but also my ability to get proportions right and natural. I really enjoyed doing these last two drawings because they feel good to me. I still have a lot to work on (don’t think that’ll ever go away) but I do think that I’m improving! Who’d’ve thought that daily practice creates improvement???????
I will say though... I want to start doing more cartoony stuff, because LORD knows I want to draw myself as a Pokemon trainer... one day though. One day I will do that.

Hello again!
Well... it’s officially been a week (and two days). Over the course of my practice, I realized that I need to study more on gesture and the flow of a pose.
My daily practice habit really seems to be paying off... In this last drawing, I noticed a difference in the way I was drawing the arms and legs. I could feel the volume the shapes filled and how they interacted with eacho other. I’m not perfect, but I’m happy with my progress!!!

It’s been another three days!!!
I’ve recently been studying the head and how one would draw it, so on Day 4 I decided to try and draw from a face from a photo. It’s not.... awful... but it’s not grea either. I’m really happy with the progress I’m making on body sketches and gestures, as mentioned in my previous post. And I decided to end Day 6 by drawing my favorite boy - Yuri Katsuki!!! (I mean, really that’s my end goal... being able to draw Yuri and Victor fan art kek).

Today, I focused on thumbnail sketches for the human body. It’s always been difficult for me to dry accurate proportions, but I’ve heard that it’s good practice to try so I did.
I found an image of a nude model that I thought was an interesting pose, and started to draw it.
In my 1st attempt, I didn’t have a particular methodology in mind. I just kinda... did my normal thing. This was the same way I did the second attempt, though since I had gotten to know the model a little more it was easier for me to do.
My 3rd attempt saw a little more methodology. It’s definitely more abstract than the previous two, and the reason for that was because I didn’t take my pencil off the screen This was to encourage me to feel the drawing and the energy of the pose rather than get caught up in the little nicks and marks I typically draw. It was a challenge.
My 4th attempt is where I start to see the most change. I finally started to get the proportions more lined up, and I felt the spirit of the drawing start to come to life.
And finally, the 5th attempt. In this last one, I really wanted to emphasize that the model was standing in a way that protruded her chest out, something I had struggled to capture in the previous four. I certainly liked this one the best, and already feel a sense of proportion starting to develop in my skills.
Today is a big win! I felt like I made observable progress, so I’m incredibly excited to see what I’m able to accomplish in the coming weeks!

Well, it’s post one!
I will say, I have already seen a tremendous improvement just by practicing every day. It’s easier for me to draw smooth lines rather than choppy lines. I still have no idea how to do textures and shading and blending and more things that I’ve never heard of before, but I enjoy what I’m doing so far.
And that’s the point, right? To enjoy your work? I don’t want this to be a stressful hobby. I have a tendency to want things I do to be perfect, which is silly because I’m not perfect at art (and who is?). All I can expect is my best effort.
