At first Paul and I wanted to be Goffin and King, then we wanted to be Eddie Cochran, then Buddy Holly, and finally we arrived at wanting to be bigger than the biggest – and that was Elvis. – John Lennon (1970)          The Making of Sgt. Pepper (1992)

My favourite John and Paul song
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
John and Paul loved to sing “Baby’s in Black” together, sharing a microphone onstage, but not “Yes It Is,” which came a few months later and got released as the B-side of “Ticket to Ride.” “Baby’s in Black” was one of the many songs they wrote on tour in hotels, eyeball to eyeball, singing into each other’s mouths. Something “Baby’s in Black” and “Yes It Is” have in common: neither one is a boy singing alone. These are harmony ballads, untranslatable to a solo voice. They’re songs about saying no to life, no to the future, yet they don’t begin until the singers say yes to each other. – Rob Sheffield, Dreaming the Beatles

They really loved each other.
UPDATED: I mean, you see it so clearly there. There is absolutely no denying it and yeah, I know there is no legit source for Cynthia saying “John never looked at anyone the way he looked at Paul,” but even if she never said it – we can SEE it in pic after pic. They were truly “A Nation of Two.”

The Beatles recording the 1963 Christmas edition of Saturday Club at the Playhouse Theatre in London on 17th December 1963. The Beatles performed six songs plus a ‘Chrimble Medley’, comprising Love Me Do, Please Please Me, From Me To You, She Loves You, I Want To Hold Your Hand, and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, which lasted just 29 seconds. They also sang a pastiche of Dora Bryan’s seasonal hit All I Want For Christmas Is A Beatle, adapting the words to All I Want For Christmas Is A Bottle.
They’re photographed talking to Bernard Andrews in the last photo, Saturday Club’s producer.
