Black Influencers’ Values Part 55 Jessica Berry the Sensational Cook and Wombman Extraordinaire
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Righteous
Determined
Loving
What was that fleeting moment in your life that catapulted you to your present self BUT certainly could have really gone the other way?
Hmmm…I was sexually molested as a child and as a result, for a long time, I thought the only thing men wanted was sex. I could have allowed this to be an excuse for me to work in the sex industry. Instead, I decided to live life as a virtuous woman. I have made mistakes, however, I have consistently made a conscious decision to carry myself with grace and class.
What are your morning and nightly rituals?
Currently I have slacked in the morning and nightly rituals department. When I’m on my game, I write three pages in a journal the second I wake up and then I talk to the ancestors.
My nightly ritual is a bathe to release the stress from the day, prior to bed and meditation.
Who should I interview next?
George Isaac
El Ma'at aka Shiloah
Who is your target audience and your self proclaimed niche/talent/gifts?
My target audience is Black women (single, dating, or married) who are interested in learning how to cook and achieving/maintaining good health. Propaganda like Black exploitation films, music videos, reality tv shows, and sites like “Cooking For Bae” and “World Star Hip Hop” have done an excellent job at tarnishing and maintaining negative images of and programming Black women. It is up to righteous Black women, like myself, to stand up and set the record straight. My mission is to reverse those negative images and replace them with positive ones. My focus is with Black women because I am a Black woman and we are the gatekeepers of the Black race.
I enjoy making healthy food taste good. I want to show other Black women how to do the same since there are untruths being told about us, stating that we can not or do not cook. As a Black woman, I take it as my personal responsibility to shatter this myth, which is why I offer cooking courses tailored specifically to Black women and our diverse palates.
What did the young you envision, see, think or was told; to make you impact people the way you do?
The young me envisioned a very “Disney” adult existence that did not properly prepare me for the real world. Since I was taught so much falsehood at a young age, I now want others to know the truth. That’s a part of my mission: Recognizing and speaking truth.
What is your favorite book, song and quote? Why?
My favorite book is “The Making Of The Slave” by Willie Lynch. The existence of a real-life Willie Lynch is debatable, however, the plan outlined in this text is remarkably apparent amongst our people.
Name two things you want to tell the world.
Black people can govern, work with, build, and maintain a nation of our own without assistance from those outside of our species, like in the ancient times…and
WATCH US!!!
Are you a saver or a shopper? I am neither all of the way.
What is your financial strategies?
I am an extremely frugal shopper who is just now learning how to save. Better late than never! I plan on shopping with black-owned businesses most or all of the time.
I plan to save, budget, and invest in the near future to leave a financial legacy to my seeds and future generations.
Does your key values and life missions speak first to your race and then the world? Or that is not a thought of yours as you live day to day?
I am race first on the daily because it is not a day that goes by that I am not reminded that I am in the skin I am in…and I am proud to be a Black woman. My thoughts are, the world will do what Black people do. We are trend-setters. We are the ancient ones. We are the Gods and Goddesses. The rest of the world follows our lead…we just don’t know how much power we have and use it to benefit us, exclusively.
When you have something that’s super important to you; what do you tell yourself to get pumped?
When it comes to getting pumped about important things, I tell myself, “Do you know how much (fill in the blank) could change your life if you completed (xyz)?” That makes me visualize how much my life would improve and that’s enough motivation to get me to finish whatever it is that I need to do.
Name 5 people who you believe embody fundamental traits that children should emulate.
Dr. Khalid Abdul Muhammad
The Late and Great Dr. Francis Cress-Welsing
Nubia I Sutton
Dr. Amos Wilson
El Ma'at aka Shiloah
George Isaac
…Yeah I put six.
Name 5 people that you know that are Powerhouses in their industries.
Nubia I Sutton
El Ma'at aka Shiloah
E.S. Mende - University of E.S.
Queen Afua
Dr. Sebi
Do you have a website or business name?
I can be found online at: http://originalwomb.com/ - This site is entitled “Original Womb” and my saying goes, “OriginalWomb.com for thee Original Wombman because…only WE can make this tastes this good”
Thank you for interviewing me and highlighting me on your platform.

Black Influencers’ Values Part 53 My Favorite Surveyor MOST VALUED PLAYER: Dr. Carmon Buford-Paige Thank you Queen
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Great Grandmother
Activist
Atheist
What was that fleeting moment in your life that catapulted you to your present self BUT certainly could have really gone the other way?
Becoming a sober woman in 1977 changed my life completely, and helped to create my later success in life.
What are your morning and nightly rituals?
I have no morning ritual. I just enjoy getting up when I feel like it, since I worked from 1952 to 1996.
My evening ritual is to watch The new Daily Show and the new Nightly Show, then switch to The Late Show and Seth Myers, which keeps me awake until 1:37 a.m.most nights. On Saturday nights I usually watch Saturday Night Live
Who should I interview next?
Valerie Cunningham
Who is your target audience and your self proclaimed niche/talent/gifts?
Young people and reasonable adults, of all races and ethnicities. My proclaimed niches are music (I was trained as a classical pianist, but my race kept me from fulfilling my dream) and African and African-American History, particularly Women’s History. I see myself as unbought and unbossed (like Shirley Chisholm).
What did the young you envision, see, think or was told; to make you impact people the way you do?
Seeing the injustices that my parents faced (my mother, who was a quadroon, ¼ Black), was asked to put her race as Mexican or Greek so that she could be hired by the telephone company. She wouldn’t do so, and wasn’t hired as one of the first telephone switchboard operators. My father passed the Captain’s exam for the Los Angeles Fire Department, but Blacks could then work in only the two Black fire stations, and there were no openings then. He worked to desegregate the fire department. Although I’m a native Californian, I sometimes encountered racism, mostly in music. I competed to be on the Hollywood Bowl stage as a young artist, learning 2 piano concertos. Competing for two years, until my teacher (on the faculty of the School of Music at U.S.C.) and I were told after the second year that they would not accept a Black young concert artist on the stage of the Hollywood Bowl; no matter how good I was or how many piano concertos I learned. That year I also won Outstanding High School Pianist in Los Angeles, but the award had to be split because Blacks were not allowed in the music fraternity, which was one of the prizes.
What is your favorite book, song and quote? Why?
Song of Solomon, by Toni Morison, Third Movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Century (All Men Are Brothers, English translation), God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Name two things you want to tell the world?
That we are one species, and should all get along and not hate each others minor differences; That we are destroying Planet Earth, and must quickly try to reverse what we have done (if we can), or we will all perish together like fools.
Are you a saver or a shopper? I’d like to believe that I am a saver, but, on my retirement income, there is not much left to save.
What is your financial strategies?
I try to buy only what I REALLY need, and am boycotting Black Friday and Christmas shopping. As Blacks, we are very conspicuous consumers, maybe the most conspicuous of all, bringing 1.1 trillion dollars into the economy. We can, and should, make our money talk and work for us.
Does your key values and life missions speak first to your race and then the world? vice versa? Or that is not a thought of yours as you live day to day?
I’m always Black first, female second, and citizen of the world third.
When you have something that’s super important to you; what do you tell yourself to get pumped?
See 7, The Serenity Prayer
Name 5 people who you believe embody fundamental traits that children should emulate.
The two female Supreme Court Justices
Elizabeth Warren
Michele Obama
California Congressman Maxine Waters
Name 5 people that you know that are Powerhouses in their industries?
Oprah Winfrey
Neil Degrasse Tyson
Toni Morrison
Magic Johnson
President Barack Obama
Do you have a website or business name?
I do not currently have a website or business name.

Black Influencers Values Part 49 Introducing my Revolutary Leading Brother Xolani Shakur
Describe yourself in 3 words:
Revolutionary
Intellectual
Student
What was that fleeting moment in your life that catapulted you to your present self BUT certainly could have really gone the other way?
My childhood in general. I went through a lot. I was in several different group homes and under the custody of the state. I was also forced into being a Special Education student. Those two things, are keys to young Black kids having an express lane to the prison pipeline. I use that to fight against the system.
What are your morning and nightly rituals?
A shower, either in the morning, or at night (which can be used as meditation). Hair Care is a must! Read at least a few pages from a selected book. Have some good music going.
Who should I interview next?
Jessica Berry
Who is your target audience and your self proclaimed niche/talent/gifts?
I am a teacher; not in the sense of working for public schooling, but in Knowledge of self. I want to reach all Black Afrikan people who are tired of having the foot of White Supremacy on their necks and are ready to act on it. We must fix this miseducation that was forced upon us. I have always been the person to fight for what I know is right.
What did the young you envision, see, think or was told; to make you impact people the way you do?
The young me went through a lot of hardships; and he said that he would do whatever it takes to end it. Make sure that I can get my people to raise up against oppression.
What is your favorite book, song and quote? Why?
The Meaning of Blackness is my favorite book. It really goes into depth on what White Supremacy and oppression is, and it offers tangible solutions to overcome.
Name two things you want to tell the world.
Knowledge is Power.
And do things in life that you know are true and righteous.
Are you a saver or a shopper? What is your financial strategies?
After blowing all of my money in my early 20’s, I have become quite the frugal shopper. I don’t have a large savings, but I don’t do a lot of shopping.
Does your key values and life missions speak first to your race and then the world? Vice versa? Or that is not a thought of yours as you live day to day?
Definitely race first. I have no other choice but to be about my race first. Because the rest of the world comes to us first when they want to oppress us; steal from us, rape us, kill, disrespect, exploit and any other aspect that is not healthy to Black people.
When you have something that’s super important to you; what do you tell yourself to get pumped?
I find every possible way that I can make it happen, then I evaluate what route that I can best take.
Name 5 people who you believe embody fundamental traits that children should emulate.
Amari Seneferu
KoKo Kweli
Je Thomas
Jessica Berry
Monterio Pattman
Name 5 people that you know that are Powerhouses in their industries.
Do you have a website or business name?
Xolani. That’s my real name (not legal name), and I use it as my dj/stage name.
Also, I am a co-founder of the organization, St. Louis Pan African Community Leaders
